    Tagliatelle with truffles

This is a great, friendly restaurant in the heart of Verona. The first time I came, I sat outside which is where I prefer to eat weather permitting. I paid my bill inside where there is more seating and then there is the downstairs area which is huge and is where I ate the second time. As with most good Italian restaurants you'd better book a reservation. Both times I came I had an excellent meal. I happened to have the same server both times who could speak enough English to explain the menu and answer questions. Most of the people that come here are locals, which I like. It is not a tourist place to eat. The food is authentic and is excellent for the money. Don't miss this place if you're staying in Verona!

I've visited twice on two different trips. The first time, It was New Year's Eve 2012, and it was a fantastic meal. Despite it being a busy evening, the food was well-paced, everything was very tasty and just fresh! I have fond memories of this restaurant. Fast-forward 12 years, Verona has grown quite a bit since I last visited in 2016. It is still a beautiful and lively place with many newer high-quality restaurants. I stumbled at Greppia by sheer happenstance...I have to admit, I wasn't entirely in love with my meal at Greppia, this time. The antipasto, a board with local meats and cheeses, felt a bit... old. I'm not an expert by any means but i am very knowledgeable and have always lead a very food centric travels and life. I lived in Northern Italy for years and have visited many restaurants in my time. I was disappointed with the Antipasto, it is really the easiest thing to get right. for my primo, I had the Risotto All'Amaronne (typical dish of Verona) and paired it with a glass of Valpolicella. This was very tasty; the consistency and texture of the risotto was just perfect. The colors, the flavors, everything tasted fresh, and it was so satisfying. For dessert, I had Tiramisu, again, having lived in Italy for years, and oh, so many, I was not impressed with it. It was almost like they didn't try this time; not a lot of flavor, the consistency was off, and it left me wanting more. I couldn't finish it. The staff was friendly and helpful with options. As a solo diner, the experience wasn't amazing, but it wasn't terrible either. When you take yourself out to dine, your focus is on the food; you tend to remember everything right and wrong. I am hopeful next time at Greppia will be better!

Beet salad with goat cheese and fig dressing.

This place is a bit like the Tardis--looks fairly small and quaint from the outside but is actually HUGE on the inside. The are 2 floors of dining rooms and in the later evening it gets really packed, so if you want an outside table, DO make a reservation. We were seated in the ground floor dining room, our server was very nice and fluent in English, quick to offer some suggestions based on what we were in the mood for. (Also do make note that the Italian-language menu offers some specials/dishes not listed on the English menu, so do ask if you have any questions.) I was in the mood for something light to start, so the beet salad with goat cheese and fig marmalade dressing sounded just about right. Sweetie went for the smoked salmon. Both took a while to come out (and our server apologized for the delay) but were worth the wait. The salmon dish, with little toast points, butter and arugula satisfied the lox-and-bagel lover in me and my salad was just what I'd been craving. For mains I went with the gnocchi with radicchio, served in a rich creamy cheese sauce. Sweetie got the beef cheeks braised in Amarone, on recommendation, and it was outstanding--fork tender and rich without being as fatty as cheeks sometimes can be. For dessert we shared a lovely panna cotta and I had an excellent aged grappa from their nice selection. All in all I would give Greppia a very strong recommendation. It can be a bit slow, and noisy as it does get VERY crowded, but clearly it's popular for good reason.

Variety and rich flavors! Family style restaurant, not too loud not too quiet. We got to Greppia by the end of lunch time and we still got a satisfactory service. The menu is very diverse from simple spaghetti ao pomodoro to truffles. Once in Italy we decided to try typical and different dishes, so I ordered a Risotto con Amarone e Zucca and my sister ordered a Fettuccine al Tartufo, both great choices. The risotto was well cooked and the Fettuccine a little too well, not al dente, just the way we wanted. Rich flavors and great combination with the wine suggested by the waiter.

Tasting the homemade nocino - to die for!

Osteria del Bugiardo was located in a good area so we made our way over to this wine bar. Service (2.5/5): Confusing system. There was a wait for a table but no hostess outside. We eventually talked to someone and she said that while there's no list, she will remember our faces and let us know when a table is ready. Not the most efficient system but we waited about 10 minutes to be seated at the bar. Our waiter took care of us pretty well after we got in. Ambiance (3.5/5): Your typical wine bar. Nice ambiance. The only downside for me is that seating at the bar consisted of bar stools. Without back support. Which I have always hated and which hurts my back. It's also pretty tight in there when they're at capacity. Drinks (4/5): Since this is a wine bar, you know what to order. We had glasses of rose. Not the heaviest pour but the price was solid. If you're not looking for wine, they also have things like Aperol Spritz. Food (4/5): You won't find hearty fare here but you will be able to munch on a lot of small plates. I'm talking things like mini sandwiches, croquettes, meatballs, salads, etc. Which is exactly what we did. We shared a couple of tapas between the two of us. It was filling and did the job. I wasn't stuffed but it was good and on the healthier side. Overall: Osteria del Bugiardo is one of the most popular restaurants on Yelp in Verona and it's located in the heart of the city.

It was quiet when we arrived at noon and then filled up quite a lot by the time we departed. Clearly, a restaurant for the locals. First course, a big pile of a pasta called "bigolini" which I've not seen before. It is like thick spaghetti with a rough surface. That is needed because the sauce on it was quite thick and another interesting taste - nettles. Definitely different. Second course, risotto made with a red wine reduction. Very flavorful and rich and the pasta was perfectly al dente. We'll definitely need to return to here for dinner! [Review 16980 overall - 185 in Italy - 496 of 2022.]

The restaurant is very cute (free WiFi) and homey feeling with an exposed brick interior and interesting decoration choices throughout the space. If you're so inclined there's also and outdoor patio area. Maybe we just ordered poor menu items but the food was underwhelming and not particularly standout. For our anti pasta course we went with the cured meat trio with polenta. The meats weren't particularly good and combined with the bland polenta it just wasn't a good combo. For our primi pasta course we had the bigoli in a horse (yes horse) bolognese sauce. Of our three dishes this was the best. For our main meat course with did horse cheeks braised in an Amarone wine sauce with polenta. I didn't like the polenta any better on our second dish and the cheek just didn't do it for me. I ended up leaving the bulk of the dish uneaten. All in all-maybe I just ordered poorly but I if I ever make it back to Verona this spot will be a pass for me.
