I've eaten a lot of delicious meals in Italy, as is easy to do. But I was blown away by this restaurant, just off the beaten path in Verona. One of the best meals I've ever had in Italy - including the food itself and the professional and warm, friendly service. We arrived to town by train, a bit late for lunch. Nevertheless, they offered to serve us. We ate outside on a quiet side street off of the main square. We started with the Mozzarella di bufala in crosta di pane con pomodorini al basilico e peperoni which was excellent. The mozzarella was slightly warm and contrasted nicely with the cool tomatoes. Next was the pasta - Maccheroncini with fiori di zucchine and pancetta crocante. This too was a beautiful blend of smooth, creamy flavors and textures and salty, crunchy ones. We finished with the mixed grilled meats as a secondo. This was a perfect compromise since we could not agree on any one meat dish. I really can't be sure what all the different meats were, but the ones I sampled were all delicious - this is clearly a specialty of theirs. Our final coffees (espresso) arrived with house made cookies on the side. A quick note, the portions were large. In order to sample more items, my husband and I shared one order each of the appetizer, first course and second course. I'm sure I couldn't have eaten ever two courses alone given the generous portion size. The servers were very professional and attentive. They were there when you needed them and did not hover. I will also add that we were traveling with a one year old so meals out can be a challenge. The servers were over-the-top warm and interacted with our son making us feel welcome and at ease. This was the best restaurant I ate at in Verona. Food quality is excellent and prices are quite reasonable. You must sit outside and the restaurant opens at 7:30, not 6:30. Steaks are their specialty, but pasta and risotto are both excellent. They gave us a free glass of prosecco to start. read more

We had the tasting menu - have to say the portions are pretty big. We were very full by toward the end. The appetizers were great. Pasta was pretty good, too. However, the grilled meat was so over cooked and dry. We only had a small amount because it is hard to cut/chew. People are very nice and friendly. I wish I only ordered single dish with the appetizers. read more

On our last night in Verona, my bride and I decided on this place after looking for a good restaurant nearby. This place absolutely blew us away! Hands down, this was the best restaurant we visited during our stay. My wife ordered the tasting menu and had the goat substituted for sliced beef with rosemary. Everything was delicious and perfectly prepared. The risotto is a must have and the service was wonderful! We were treated to a special dessert after we told them we were on our honeymoon. You will do yourself a dis-service not going here. The restaurant is not easy to find...definitely off the beaten path (but not too far). It's beautifully set up. We were greeted immediately by several people and able to select our table. We were further greeted with a couple glasses of proseco. From there my Italian gave out and the wait staffs English came in....in a very friendly way. I relied on him to suggest a wine, which was very good so I then followed his recommendation for dinner...also very good. The food portions are sizable, so if you are not a big eater, you may want to share the appetizer and opt for a better bottle of wine ;). This place is fantastic. It looked somewhat imposing when we peered in the door (opening hours are 7:30pm, not 6:30), but the proprietor was very friendly and welcoming. We started with complimentary prosecco and were presented menus in Italian, and then a menu in English. We ordered the eggplant appetizer and it was the quintessential version of eggplant parmagiana. But the piece de resistance was really the risotto di amarone (red wine risotto) - I think it's the best risotto we've ever had. Topped with Monte Veronese cheese, it's really a local specialty. We each had a serving of risotto and then split an order of grilled meat and side of vegetable contorni. The meat was overflowing the plate - so much delicious beef, veal, turkey and pork grilled to perfection we couldn't eat it all. Finished off the meal with fresh strawberries. I really don't think this place is that expensive - we had a lot of food and a bottle of nice wine and the bill was €104 total. Best meal on our trip in Italy thus far! read more

This was one of our best meals in Italy during our honeymoon. The service was superb, and the food was amazing. After spending 2 weeks in Italy, we were slightly tired of pasta and meat and cheese. The pan fried mozzarella with grilled veggies and grilled mixed meats (beef, turkey, pork, and other items that we were unsure of) were just what we were looking for. We were excited to have a great meal before the opera at the arena. Read 5 stars. We do not eat "tourist" food as I can make "that" myself at home (chef.) Il Cenacolo was good, but not the high standard Italian I've experienced here in Italy. No, we do not eat at pizzerias or cafes, only 4-5 star restaurants that offer creative and exciting creations. I took off one star for the dry pork rib/chop.... delivered sizzling, which I cut up rather quickly to "stop the cooking," but it continued to cook to very dry bites of meat. Baked Cod with peas was not as savory as I hoped. Caprese with burrata was very good. Goat was good. Yes, as in previous reviews, there is a slight vibe of "we dismiss Americans" as when we walked in (having made a phone reservation earlier) they did not acknowledge or greet us when we walked in, even after we said pleasantries in Italian. It's just a, ahem, uncomfortable silence as they walk past you. Anyways, I think you can do better, but then again , you don't need to cater to everyone, I get the "we are trying to attract 'our-kind." No offense taken, just noted. read more

After reading all the reviews we were very excited to come to this restaurant. The fireplace in center is impressive. We wanted to sample a few things while in Verona. However , the waiter refused to accommodate. We wanted one order of fois gras, but he said it wouldn't be enough as one order , and that we needed an order per person. Also, their specialty dish risotto in amarone, he didn't allow us to order one order. He kept saying we need to place two orders of it to get the risotto. Basically, we ordered two fois gras, when it came out three pieces per plate, we were confused why he insisted it wouldn't be enough for tasting. Then, we didn't get a chance to try the risotto because we didn't want two orders of it which was disappointing. The T-bone steak and grilled beef fillet were delicious. Basically due to lack of desire to accommodate concept of us wanting to taste multiple dishes , I wouldn't recommend this place if your looking to share multiple dishes since it's one dish per person rule. read more
