Wonderful, Wonderful Lunch! Charming established Trattoria in Verona! Service was fabulous! Rustic and delicious was their food! Started with their incredible locally raised, in house freshly sliced, Salumi Plate: the Ham and Salami were amazing, yet it was their LARDO, strips of fatback, that caught my attention, perfectly cured with taste of rosemary, herbs & spices, YUM! Next, their blew me away Mushroom Pasta: al dente were the pasta; flavorful were the mushrooms; simply tossed with virgin oil; DELIGHTFUL! Last for dessert, OMG, their TIRAMISU sure "lifted me up" from my flights: hint of espresso; creamy and decadent custard; fluffy whipped cream; the dust of dark cocoa powder on top; HEAVENLY! There were fewer tables with tourists on this Thursday than from what I heard and observed from the greetings, as their repeating loyal customers! Oh yeah, it's nice to be part of the FAMILY here! We came on recommendation of a friend and he did NOT steer us wrong! beautiful restaurant and reservations are highly recommended! The place is small and has tons and tons of photos covering the walls. We started with a plate of mixed sliced salamis and prosciutto. Perfect slices and perfect amount for two people. My husband had the pasta e fagioli which was probably one of the best we've ever tried... Strike that, it was the best! I went for a local dish of gnocchi ragu d'asino. In case you were wondering - asino = donkey. Slow cooked and tastes nothing like what you would think. If I didnt know what it was, I would have thought it was beef. My husband had the brasato al amarone for a second course. Food is tremendous and service is even better. If you only have 1 night in Verona, this is the place to go. read more

Wow! I don't use this lightly as our tour across Italy over two weeks presented some amazing food opportunities. Right from the greeting and recommendations the vibe from the wait staff delivering our cocktails and wine, to the waiter (wearing chef's attire) were so polite and accommodating. The food arrived (Eggplant Parmigiana for her and Wild Boar Ragout Parpadelle for me. Both were outstanding!! And to top it all off at the end of the night...we shredded the Sinofica Chocolate and the Semifreddo deserts (see below). Excellent choice and recomm NDA toon from our hotel!! read more

I'm sorry, this place is not very good at all. We started with risotto, mistake #1. It was very under cooked, stuck in your teeth hard. I mean really, in Italy and you don't know how to cook risotto? Then we had beef cheek. It was supposed to be a tender roast, but seemed more like it was cooked to order. We skipped desert, just too unappealing at that point. read more

You need to make reservation, especially for Thursday eve, but we were lucky enough to get a table for an hour and a half. Very good Italian restaurant with knowledgeable waiters. Their well known burrata cheese (cow milk cheese made from mozzarella and cream) and a plate of salami and meat is a great appetizer. Very rustic simple but elegant Italian restaurant. Firstly, service is outstanding. They are fast, on point, but not intrusive. We asked our waiter to pick out a local, small Amarone producer and he picked a wonderful wine for $75. He could have easily directed me higher. We started with a mixed plate of sliced meats. Let me just say this: they have 2 guys who do nothing but slice these beautiful meats. Just order it! For main courses Wife had tagliatelle with artichokes. I would venture to say this is the best restaurant in Verona with very attentive wait staff, a chef who greets you at the table, a wonderful selection of wine and the world's best tiramisu. We walked past it twice thinking it was closed since the shades were down but fortunately my husband pulled on the door. Inside we discovered many locals enjoying lunch, ham hocks hanging from the ceiling to dry, a selections cheeses and an inviting atmosphere with walls filled with black and white photos (we think of famous Italians) and kitchen witches decorating the ceiling. To start we shared a prosciutto and salami plate where the meats were sliced paper thin along with a selection of fresh bread, pickled vegetables, fine olive oil and a glass of Valpolicella Superiore. I ordered the Guinea hen with asparagus and squash which was very tender and tasty. My husband had gnocchi which he said was light and airy and my daughter had the special of the day, beef cheeks which was very succulent We ended with their world famous tiramisu which just exploded in our mouths with flavor Eventhough this felt like a large midday meal which Italians enjoy I did not feel overly full but very satisfied and for all that we enjoyed the price was very reasonable. read more

Zum Essen: dieses Mal ein guter Salat, schön angemacht, nicht zu essiglastig. Gegrilltes Gemüse ebenfalls schmackhaft, ingesamt recht ölig, aber uns störte es nicht. Bedienung beantworte unsere Fragen, jedoch spürte man es ihm schon sehr an, dass er sehr im Stress war (das Lokal war wie meistens komplett besetzt). Einmal würde Käse vergessen, dann die Schärfe, so etwas nervt dann doch. Da wir an diesem Abend aber angenehm überrascht waren, dass es uns wirklich schmeckte und man versuchte, unseren Sonderwünschen zu entsprechen, konnten wir es tolerieren. Normalerweise finde ich solche wiederholten Unaufmerksamkeiten nervig. Lange warten mussten wir auf keins der Gerichte. Ein ganz großes Fauxpax ist allerdings untentschuldbar. We had a nice lunch here by chance. Our waiter maybe didn't take us seriously, but service was adequate. The pasta and salad were very delicious. I went to Verona this past September, and eating at Al Pompiere was one of the highlights of a fantastic trip. Their plate of mixed cured meats is one of the best dishes I have ever had. We got a plate for two, which came with lardo, prosciutto, parma ham, and salami. Each slice of each one was something to savor. We saved up loads of room for dinner, so ordered a load of food, all of which was good. That included an excellent lentil soup, and two very good entrees and desserts (though I can't remember what they were. I just remember they were great!). Service and atmosphere are also fantastic. It has an old world, local feel, and the restaurant is divided into two fairly small rooms, which means that you can people watch as you eat. I would definitely recommend that anyone who travels to Verona go here! read more

Very good food at a classic, old school place. The Ventian style calf's liver with grilled polenta was some of the most tender liver I've ever had, and the cold tomato soup with goat cheese was perfect after a long day of slogging through the heat. We sat outside, because inside was jammed and also like a furnace, and our waiter sort of couldn't be too bothered with us. Like anothet reviewer, I felt he kind of didn't take us seriousky as patrons. He was friendly with Italian speakers, but very perfunctory with us. And yeah, I get the whole language barrier thing, but my eife and I are goid and communicating without a common tongue. The service was so slow, it bordered on epic. My second glass of wine never came and it took as long to get the check as it did to eat our entrees. I don't mind old school service, but this was a bit ridiculous. If dinner for 2 had been 40 euros I wouldn't have minded, but 80 euros plus service kind of knocks it down a star for me. read more
