Wow. Just Wow.
I was excited to hear that there was a new cafe on this side of town (in the old Cafe Kubal location.)
I stopped in on a rainy Saturday morning. I had high hopes, and they blew them out of the water.
The cafe is small but curated to feel very homey and welcoming.
The barista was a true superstar, warmly greeting every single customer who walked in the door even though she was hustling keeping the espresso flowing out front. Having worked at a cafe before, I have to heap high praise on what a rock star this barista was handling so many orders solo when the cafe starting getting busy, and still remaining friendly and cheerful.
I got the pistachio cold foam latte which is one of their specialty drinks. I'd assumed it would just be syrup but came with a generous sprinkling of crushed pistachios on top. The cold foam was made with full cream and was incredibly rich. The coffee underneath was well roasted.
For breakfast I got the egg and cheese on ciabatta. It came with a side of aioli. The sandwich was big so I could have used a teaspoon more of the sauce, but that was my only comment. The bread was really soft and fresh, eggs were fluffy, and the gooey melty cheese brought it all together.
I also got a neopolitan cookie because I rarely pass up a chance to have one when I see one. I didn't get a chance to ask whether they make them in-house or work with a local baker, but this was one of the best ones I've had. Incredibly moist, very flavorful.
Everything came out to about $20 before tip. A little pricey, but on par with other fancy coffee houses in the area. I miss the days of $4 lattes but I get it, everything is going up.
The real value of this coffee shop is the atmosphere. It felt very much like a cozy neighborhood hangout. Several of the other guests had a rapport with the barista and it feels like the kind of shop you want to be a regular at or come to meet friends. Literally everyone who walked in the doors seemed happy and at pace, relieved that there was somewhere like this suddenly in the neighborhood.
Happy with my visit and looking forward to many happy returns! read more
