One of the highlights of taking my most recent job has been the proximity of my office to some great dining spots in Reston, Virginia. Cafesano is among my very favorite places to go for lunch during the week, and once you head into the restaurant, the long line will prove to you that it is a popular location. The menu combines the best foods from Italian and mediterranean style cuisine. You can't go wrong with any of the choices. As of today, I have eaten everything on the menu. I've been going here on a semi-regular basis since December 2007. Without hesitation, I can recommend nearly everything on the menu. Some of my favorites include the Roasted Turkey Pesto wrap, which has the right balance of flavor. It is perfect for a light lunch and comes with Cafesano's great baked lavash chips and grapes. The Kabob Wraps are great, and the Grilled Portobello panini is oustanding. All of the pizzas are nicely priced, gourmet style personal dishes. The Margherita and Pollo are remarkable, and if you want to be really adventurous try the Del Mar--it comes with shrimp and pine nuts!! IMO The best lunchtime dish is the Greek Salad. Make sure you order this with a charbroiled skewer; the chicken and the shrimp are good choices. There is a decent selection of beverages too. I haven't had any of the coffees, nor alcoholic beverages. I usually grab a Pellegrino. Forget the sodas and grab a fresh lemonade! The one disappointment I had was with the oatmeal raisin cookie. At a $1.99 it should have been better than it was. The cookie was stale and seemed as if it had been sitting on the counter for too long. When I went back, I was offered another cookie, but to no avail, the second cookie was also stale. (But you are a healthy eater anyhow, right???) The staff are always friendly there and the service is efficient. It is apparent that they are treated well as employees since they always can be found smiling. If you go for lunch, be aware that it can be quite busy. There is plenty of seating, and there is a nice patio section which is close to Lake Thoreau. Also nice is a group table right by the counter. If you are adventurous, you can eat next to other people and start up a conversation quite easily. Overall, Cafesano is highly recommended! read more

3.5 Stars The staff is friendly, but the food is not quick(I hope it's because the food is made fresh!). The authentic greek food is really good. Don't order anything else. My husband has ordered lasagne - flavorless. Lots of the italian items aren't that good. The hummus, tzatziki, baba ganoush dips are great. I heart them the most. I am not a fan of those pita chips they make. The flat bread that comes w/ the dips are good. I live .5 miles from here so it's convenient, but I wouldn't say it's something for which I'd travel far. read more

Cafesano is a great little cafe with indoor and outdoor seating providing a range of foods mostly centering around Mediterranean. The food is always good and i enjoy the casual laid back atmosphere making this a great place for lunch or dinner. Prices are quite reasonable. It can get a bit busy and there is limited seating however i have never not been able to find a table to sit at. read more

This review is for takeout using online ordering. We've lived here for 2.5 years and have eaten at/from CafeSano many times. The food is great, but I dread the takeout experience. It takes WAY too long. Tonight I placed an order at 5:15 for pickup in 30-45 minutes. We showed up 45 minutes later and sat waiting for half an hour. This happens every time now. I don't know if their algorithm is off that predicts wait time or if they're horribly understaffed or what, but they're not reliable at all if you're pressed for time. read more

This is my safest bet always. Nice location , decent service and good food which includes lot of varieties. We catered food for one of my parties and my guests were happy. Best time to go here is in fall. The view is spectacular. read more

How is it that I have not rated this place before now? It's been my favorite place to eat and hang out since it opened. Food is great views are outstanding staff is wonderful locally owned. What's not to love? Well they are a bit of a victim of their own success so things can take a while during peak times. I often order by phone prior to getting there and eat by the lake. read more

Ordered for the second time through DoorDash and was missing one item. Same item interestingly. Called the restaurant and voice mail came on to leave a message. Still haven't heard back from them. Usually order for a group but moving on to other restaurants for the future as twice in a row and missing same item indicates time to choose other restaurants of which there are plenty. I have been hearing about this spot for a while now so today I decided to stop by for lunch since I had been craving it for a while. When I first walked in, the decor was beautiful, crisp and clean. Fresh produce and salad makers were putting together salads. I decided to order a chicken schwarma. Let just say that I was disappointed in the size and portion. The chicken was flavorless, there was a slice and a half of tomato, plenty of lettuce and a grilled pita. The best part of the lunch was the pita. It came with a "garlic sauce" which looked more like a butter that was just unbelievable strong. Maybe I just came in on a bad day, but I have decided I will give this place one more try. I could have ordered something that really isn't their best dish. The only thing that really did it for me was the appearance of how spotless and fresh things looked. read more

We ordered takeout from Cafesano for the first time last night when we had a group of friends over for game night. The menu features a wide variety of options so there was something for everyone. The one negative is that there is no delivery. Be sure to check the hours online/ask when you place your order if you pick-up is at the restaurant or down at the catering store (it depends on the day and time). We tried a variety of salads, pizzas, kebabs, and lasagna. The Greek salad was good, while the house salad was basic. Everyone who ordered pizza was happy and there weren't any leftovers. The crust was perfectly crispy, yet doughy (delicious brick oven pizza). The lasagna was just ok. The kebab platters were plentiful and didn't disappoint... Tip: order extra tzatziki sauce. We'll definitely order from Cafesano again, or try dining in the restaurant. read more

I was a huge fan of this place. Great food for a reasonable price. Not sure what has happened in the last week but everything has been off. On Monday August 24th, I went there with my boyfriend and daughter. We ordered a kids cheese pizza, and a Greek pizza and a Greek salad. You can't really mess up a salad (or so I thought) so I was satisfied with it but both pizzas were burnt on the bottom. Burnt to the point my daughter, who can kill an entire kids pizza in one sitting, had a hard time getting through it, and my boyfriend was complaining the entire time. That was strike one. Strike two came today when I ordered a Greek salad, again, because it's amazing. Half way through my salad I realized that the olives were missing. The whole point of a Greek salad are the olives and the feta cheese. Strike three came just a few hours later when our dinner plans were cancelled and decided to have a go at getting a margharita pizza from cafe sano. Burnt bottom. After driving back to get our money back, they gave us another margherita pizza for free but once we were home (strike four) the bottom was burnt. Are your flames too high? Is the oven being cleaned enough? Are you keeping it in the oven too long? What happened to the amazing pizza you used to make? We are fed up with the dissatisfaction we have experienced and will not likely return. read more

Cashier here doesn't know their menu, we had hard time explaining that I need to replace pita with corn tortilla due to allergy. We got lamb kabob plates. Lamb was undercooked - too much blood. I along with 4 other coworkers went there for lunch yesterday. I was looking forward to my lunch since it had been a while since we had eaten there. It was so disappointing. I ordered a Ceasar salad with a vegetable kabob. I love this salad, but yesterday not so much. Not only did it not look fresh, it didn't taste much better. As Alan S. noted, I've heard good things about this place and decided to check it out on my lunch break. When I called in my order, I selected carry out (#1). This directed me to the cafe which is a completely separate location then the restaurant. I ordered the grilled chicken pesto panini and they said it would take 20 minutes. I arrived 15 minutes later and waited an additional 15 minutes for my order for a total of 30 minutes. There were many people waiting long periods of time for their orders also. They were obviously very busy and couldn't handle the large volume. When i opened my order at my desk (which is across the street), it was not hot and not even warm. It was barely pressed in the panini press. I am very disappointed that I spent $10 on a so, so sandwich.I will not be going back to order carry out. He will likely speak over you, telling you he is very very busy and cannot help you. Despite the fact that you are a current client, he is totally unwilling to take time for customer concerns. Yelp, you let me down. Went to grab a quick lunch with my fiance. Ordered the marinated chicken kebabs (~$13) and a margarita pizza (~$11). The pizza wasn't bad, not great. The chicken was awful. I don't know why people can't use boneless, skinless, all white meat chicken breasts for kebabs. My fiance bit into a piece of chicken and it was crunchy. Another piece was half bloody half fat. Would've been better off going to Zoes and we would've saved money. Rice was tasteless and salad wasn't that great either. Will not be returning. read more

We have eaten here many times and have always enjoyed our meals. Unfortunately, the last two times we have gotten takeout, the service has been problematic. This last time when we arrived to pick up curbside, they informed us that someone had forgotten to enter our order (we ordered online) and they had to cook the food. So we had to wait an extra 30 minutes. I understand mistakes happen but there was no apology, no offer to discount our meal or throw in a free brownie or anything. Cafesano is close to where I live. I have been here multiple times and had excellent experience every time. It's located right next to Lake Thoreau. I don't recall if they have outdoor seating but its location is excellent for it. Service is fast, and food has been great on all the occasions. I would absolutely recommend their cannoli and tiramisu for dessert. Zucchini Fritti and Avocado Bruschetta are great choices for appetizer. Menu price is very reasonable and I would count this place as cheat eat. Some of the menu items do run above $10 but most of them are less than that. This restaurant has really great food. BUT - they have a consistently bad problem with take-out accuracy. The last 4 times we have ordered take out, something is missing. Very frustrating when you get home to find out part of your order is missing. Management needs to fix this problem! A very nice Mediterranean cafe. I saw many reviewers stated the food was fresh, and it is. And the location is surprising, in a shopping center but overlooking a lake and the inside is quite attractive and comfortable, too. We as a family for takeout and were all quite pleased. For the small kids, I skipped the kids' menu (just same-o pizza and nuggets) and got them each a skewer of chicken and order a side of potato wedges. They were quite happy but would have been very happy with another half skewer each. The older kids got kabob platters. All really like them, but the shrimp was the treasure. We plan to all get some shrimp skewers at least on the next trip. I see another reviewer talked about a line and the business outgrowing their location. I was surprised at how small it is, but we didn't encounter a line (at least no more than a few other parties). Our family went on a Thursday night around 7 pm over Easter break so that may explain the lack of excessive business. They do have an option to order on line and pick up which I think would be quite easy to do and avoid rush times. I did think the price was a bit high for the serving sizes but I know prices are going up. And it is nice to get something fresh, tasty and that everyone liked. read more

I ordered a chicken platter for $13.03 The plate was full of uncooked rice, 5 or 6 very small peaces of chicken no flavor no spices at all. And some vigges. The environment of the place is nice. Overview: An Italian/Mediterranean restaurant in an unassuming Reston strip mall/shopping center. This seems to be a local food favorite and I've eaten here often in the past 4 years that I've been in the area. They have a decent variety of food so that pretty much everyone can find something they'd like to eat. The food is quite good and priced well, especially considering the quality and the atmosphere. My office has also used them for catering lunches, which are always received well. So when my friend asked for a recommendation to take his mother for a nice weekday lunch, this seemed to be the perfect answer. We went at 2pm, well after the lunch rush (it can get quite busy during the lunch hour), so it was pretty quiet and relaxed and we could enjoy the view of Lake Thoreau from our indoor table. Since I'd already eaten lunch, I only had a bowl of lentil soup, but it absolutely hit the spot and was very tasty. My friend also had the signature salad (which he liked) while his mother had the avocado, tomato & mozzarella salad, which she seemed to enjoy immensely. I also strongly recommend the baked lavash chips. They are SO GOOD. The people who work there have always seemed polite and friendly to me. No problems on that end. Really love this little establishment! Kid friendly, amazing food...order at the counter and they give you a buzzer when your food is ready. The menu has a wide selection from pasta, salad, pizza, soup, sandwich to kabob platters and several appetizers. Parking sometimes is not the easiest because of the busy shopping plaza but it's close to Starbucks, grocery store, cvs, pet store and a gas station so pretty convenient. I have been here a few times for lunch and cannot stay away from Cafesano's Signature Salad! Soooo good and filling. The salad consists of mozzarella, tomatoes, olives, artichokes, and cucumbers,along with a nice light dressing served with a side of bread. I also enjoy getting it with a side of white rice. It's light and healthy enough, but also filling, leaving you satisfied for a nice fit lunch. My coworkers have gotten the tuna and chicken Cesar wrap which they have thoroughly enjoyed as well.
