Great meeting place. I ordered a Winter Buddha Bowl that was so fresh and delicious. Really great lunch. Their Hot Chai Tea that was delicious. It is counter service. Seating was not the most comfortable and I had wished we could have sat outside because it seemed more inviting. Though my friend and I had a great time catching up and enjoying each other's company at the cafe. read more

i am bummed; i absolutely do NOT recommend this place i will pay for good food / drink - ima taurus this place is just insulting - 1. upcharging for oatmilk like it's 2019 2. garbage roasting 3. garbage beans i will pay 25PLUS dollars for watermelon rose water - WATERMELON WATER & this place upcharges for oatmilk!?!?! wtf i agreed to pay the extra 1$ to support this business i've never tried- ima "ain't normal cafe" girl up the street but it was closed - almost went to souvenir but nah let's try this cat place - obviously oatmilk drinkers are paying for the lighting bc what else is good there? i informed the employee i was enraged and silently burning within- poor thing it was their first day too if the beans & coffee had been delicious- this would be a very different review i'll pay 10$ for a great oatmilk latte but to pay 8$ for a bad one?!? F that the lights are cool- everything else is not - i recommend taking the 52 down to aint normal or highwire (if theyve worked out their labor dispute) cafenated is insulting and not delicious ANDDDDDDD- to ruin my pastries?!! i threw the coffee out and will save my treats for a latte at home w my delicious beans read more

My partner and I stopped in here as we were in the area and wanting something cold to drink. It's a large space with tons of seating, and a spacious bathroom, which is always nice to see. We were helped right away, and we ended up ordering the cold brew and matcha cloud. We both really enjoyed our drinks as I thought the matcha and coconut water was super refreshing. It wasn't top tier matcha, but with the coconut water, it worked. I'm docking a few stars because there were a ton of flies flying around in the cafe, and it was actually pretty gross. I don't know that I would order food from here, but the drinks were decent and the space itself is welcoming with a cute cat theme. Not sure that I'd return next time I'm in the area. read more

I use to love this place when it was popping....many moons ago... they had amazing salads and great bread and I would study here till midnight . Now it's still cute inside, same great seating but gross food... hella pricy and what is up with the flies ? It's a great spot. I came here to do some work and tried to eat a dry flavorless apple thing. I have them stars cuz the coffee was decent . Oh well onward always love ok'ing for great cafes to do work in....this one is not it . read more

A large, spacious coffee shop on College Ave. I've been here twice, and it was packed both days, even on a holiday. Pros: There are lots of tables, counter seats, communal table seats, sofa seats (a little awkward if you want to do some work) for studying or working. The coffee is decent. About $7/8 for a latte. $5 for black drip coffee. Haven't tried the food, so can't comment on it. Cons: Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi didn't work at all. I came in hoping to do some work on my laptop, but had to leave for another coffee shop to get internet. This seems to be a consistent problem that isn't getting addressed. They'd get 4 stars if the internet worked. read more

I really want to like this place since it's location is perfect but the food was disgusting (veggie breakfast burrito was just spicy mush with unmelted orange cheese, over-cooked oily potatoes, and barely ripe avocado in a wrap), they're always playing the most annoying top 40 internet radio, and the wifi doesn't work. The woman taking my order was scratching her armpit right in front of me before bringing me my coffee? Other than the armpit-scratching, the staff is nice enough. But everything else is was sh*tty. Vibe is undergraduates studying who will eat anything and are spending their parents' money. One star for good location, one star for good coffee and offering oat milk next to half&half. It's sad because the Cafenated Cafe in North Berkeley is quite nice. read more

Both their WiFi and service suck! Yet they charge arms and legs. It's NO GO place. They definitely don't look for people or call people loud to come get their coffee and let it go cold! Weird place! Honestly the cappuccino doesn't cost $1 and they charge $6+! Do not recommend this place at all read more

I've been here a few times, mainly because I'm obsessed with the cat. I came in planning to grab a chagacino and ended up ordering a matcha chagacino and a pistachio latte because why not? Both were the matcha had that clean boost and the pistachio latte was creamy and nutty in the best way. I also got The Caffeinated Breakfast and the Persian bagel on an everything bagel from Bouchik Bagels, and if you know, you know those bagels are . The dill cream cheese, cucumber, and tomato combo hit the spot. They had a couple kiosks down, so only one was taking cards, but the real MVP was Adura. He helped me figure out my orders on the kiosk and made sure everything went through. I also saw him helping the team like a total pro. Super polite, super helpful. Five stars just for his energy. Overall, the drinks I got were tasty, the food was solid, and the cat-themed cups always get me. I even grabbed a cat mug this time because obviously. I'll definitely be back for another latte and one of those bagels again soon. read more

This spot is an absolute must try! Coffee was premium and not at a premium price! It seems like they make it just to order and they have such unique flavors to try! I got the white lavender latte and it was so creamy and delicious! Terrible customer service unfortunately, not worth the visit! I've been coming here for a while because I genuinely enjoy their breakfast burritos, but the customer service has become so consistently poor that I've reached the point where I dread going in because I never know how I'm going to be treated. One of my biggest frustrations is being asked for a tip before I've even received my food or drink or experienced any service. I usually tip a couple of dollars anyway to avoid the awkwardness, but it's frustrating to be prompted for a tip before the service has even been provided. During my most recent visit, I simply asked a staff member if they could bring me some hot sauce. They haven't consistently had hot sauce available at the condiment station lately, and in the past, staff had no problem bringing it to me. This time, I was rudely told, "If you want hot sauce, you can get it yourself." I explained that I was sitting in the back and didn't want to leave my food and belongings unattended and out of sight. She said she would bring it, but after waiting several minutes, she never returned. When I followed up, I was again told to get it myself, and another staff member joined the conversation and essentially told me that customers are expected to get their own condiments. I had no issue getting the hot sauce myself that was never the point. The issue was that I had already been told it would be brought to me, and I was trying to avoid leaving my belongings and food unattended. If customers are expected to serve themselves, that's perfectly fine but then provide the condiments where customers can reasonably access them. There should be hot sauce available at the condiment stations, including in the back seating area, so customers don't have to leave their tables unattended. This is not an isolated experience. I've also stood at the register with no other customers waiting while staff completely ignored me or acted as though they didn't see me. I've noticed a significant turnover in staff over the past few months, and unfortunately, the customer service seems to have declined considerably. The owners need to do a better job hiring professional, courteous staff and training the current employees on basic customer service, professionalism, and communication. If you're going to ask customers for a tip before they've even received their order, the least you can do is provide the service they're paying for. I'm happy to tip when I receive good service, but tipping should not feel like an expectation before anything has even been done. I really do enjoy the breakfast burritos, which is why I continued coming back, but good food doesn't make up for consistently poor treatment. Customer service is a huge part of the overall experience, and right now, that experience is unfortunately a 0/10. Do not spend your money here!! read more

I've had my eye on this place for a while. I am always visiting the chocolate store across Ashby, so I never make it in. Their signboard has had some intriguing seasonal offerings. I finally stopped in today and decided to try their pistachio latte and a slice of chocolate coffee cake. The coffee was just the right hint of nutty and delightfully creamy. The cake was studded with a lovely streusel and slivered almonds. It had a great crumb and was chocolatey without being too much. I think it might have been gluten free, too. The staff was friendly and the space was clean and bright. Coffee offerings come from women purveyors, which I fully support. Recommended read more

Giving this two stars, would give it one if it weren't for the ambiance. Their drinks are really not the best quality, matcha only tastes like milk, no matcha taste at all, mind you it was $8. It is quite pale in color. It is funny how they have a little flyer promoting their matcha when it is subpar. I have gone here a collective 3 times and the reason why I keep coming back is because of the open space they have for studying- it truly is the ideal study spot with indoor and outdoor seating. The other time I got the hibiscus iced tea and it wasn't even iced it was room temperature.... why promote it as iced when in reality it isn't. read more

Not sure why the service is so bad. My wife wanted a slightly sweet matcha, and was told by the very bothered barista, "we have sweet or not sweet." Then she asked for reduced-fat milk and the response was "we have whole or nonfat." Guess what, Employee of the Month: you can combine sweet and not sweet to get slightly sweet. You can combine whole and nonfat fat milk to create reduced-fat milk. Who is training these binary robots? Also, I ordered the coffee and it's pretty boring. read more

Stopped by for a morning pick me up and really enjoyed the ambience and coffee. The vibes are super nice and open and airy. There is lots of natural sight and seating and even a small outdoor area to sit at. I've heard this place gets super crowded but when I went early it was pleasant with not too many people. I ordered an oat latte which was super creamy and yummy! It wasn't too sweet either. I wish it was slightly hotter by the time I got it. Service was also super fast and efficient here as well! I came in for a quick latte, ordered a non fat latte and then quickly changed it to almond milk, then they wanted to charge me $9 instead of $8 and he gave me an laugh and eye roll when I switched back to my original order due to the up charge. It was an overpriced coffee drink that tasted weak and watered down with rude staff, will not be back. read more

I saw the cute Chagacinno sign and went in but unfortunately they ran out! I ordered a strawberry matcha and I believe it was about $7 and there's a small fee for to go cup. I probably will come try the Chagaccino but maybe that's it. read more

I got an iced matcha latte and while I didn't expect ceremonial grade matcha, I was disappointed that my drink was rly milky. My sis didn't quite enjoy her iced vanilla latte, as she went back to the bar to ask for more sweetness. There was something a bit off with both our beverages and, for the price we paid, we didn't feel the products/experience lived up to it. Nice location to study tho read more

Food is better than the coffee. I love the On the Run sandwich and salmon bowl. I generally head over here after a lengthy hike or run with friends. Coffee is OK. I like the brown sugar latte primarily because it hides the burnt taste of the beans that are definitely more noticeable in the plain iced latte. Good spot to study or work with a lot of open space. Similar to the old location, the intentionality in creating a beautiful atmosphere and serving great drinks is present. Let's address the elephant in the room: I did not use the internet, so this review is based on to-go orders. This new corner College Ave spot is the second location, the first location being the uber popular North Berkeley locale. This spot is modern, large and airy. Plenty of seating inside, with some limited front patio seating. It has a full menu serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner, wine, beer and array of coffee and tea drinks. The food options actually sound super appealing and I look forward to coming back for a try. I agree from other reviews, it's louder than one would think for studying. For a quick pastry and coffee takeout, it wasn't bothersome. Maybe they don't want people staying for hours like they do in North Berkeley? The coffee is great. I usually get a latte if some sort and it's smooth. The most recent try was the chaggucino which had mushroom powder and monk fruit sweetener. It was so sweet to the point that I was like there has to be sugar in here, but it was delicious, creamy and well made. Pastries are fine, not life changing, but I did spy a mini chocolate babka I'll have to come back for. Price: not cheap. This spot is ringing at the higher end of cafes, both for food and drink. Fancy coffees are $6+, pastries $6+, menu items at $16/17+. To note: everything does seem high quality. Overall, I'm a fan of this upscale coffee shop. I'd hope they fix their internet and listen to their customers that seemingly music may be an issue. But, for a quick visit, it's delightful and a convenient spot for some bougie eats and drinks. read more

Cafenated Coffee opened in the vacated Expresso Roma's space. Coffee bar is centrally located in front of the entrance, able to service patrons instantly. Decor subdued. Pop ups, community events are frequent.. Offerings: covfefe, pastries, toasts, salad, Sammies... Drink: chaggaccino (7) choice of milk -healthier than a latte, has Chaga, cacao, cinnamon, vanilla & monk fruit sweetener -organic, sugarless, keto, plant based milk, no artificial junk. Drips: -wasn't feeling the eats offerings -choose the featured drink to try something new, not disappointed. Forgot to specify oat milk... -may re-order this drink again with oat milk. Drips: -3 separate area for laptoping, most tables occupied, 2 outside. -2 unlabeled restrooms in corner. One with a mural. read more

No WiFi and weak tea. I would have appreciated a warning from the barista that the WiFi was down before I bought my drink, as I would have gone elsewhere. There was one employee doing all of the work while the other two sat and chatted. Kinda hipsterish and minimalist decor. Not a fan. read more

The drinks are overpriced, bland, and I'm pretty sure they gave me dairy milk instead of oat milk.

Location is great with a lot of indoor spaces, not much outdoor though. Could easily be a meet up location! It's a coffee shop turned cafe! Good place for just grab a coffee and work/study alone or with a friend or two. It's usually a quiet ambient. It's basically an alternative to Peet's/Starbucks kinda place but they serve food. An establishment where only 1 of 3 times I've been the coffee has been OK so you're better off going to Peets, Philz, or even Starbucks, combined with lackluster service that indicates they don't care about customer experience after you pay. Today was the first day the coffee shop was opened and so glad we stopped in! The vibe is so modern, clean, and trendy. There is SO much seating and space to sit for a coffee date or work on a laptop. We ordered an oat milk latte (note: they don't have almond milk) and an iced americano. Both were great! Their pastries are local (from Starter Bakery). They also serve a few breakfast/brunch dishes for more substantial food. The service was attentive and someone was walking around clearing plates/cups. They have a water station and area with all the coffee fixings (eg lids, sugar, straws, etc) Would definitely come back and recommend checking it out! read more

I frequently go to the North Berkeley location of Cafenated and was excited to see that they now have a location in Elmwood. I'd been to the coffee shop that was previously in that location, and Cafenated did a wonderful job renovating so that the interior is much brighter and airier. It's the kind of spot where I could hang out for a while! They have all of the typical coffee and tea drinks. I think they were a little short-handed when I was there on a weekday afternoon as the cashier had to both take orders and make drinks. read more

After selling Girl Scout cookies across the street for 2 hours, our 2nd graders needed to use the restroom. I asked for the restroom to which the cashier said it's for paying customers only. I told her I'd purchase a coffee or two and she rolled her eyes and was reluctant to say yes. I asked again to let them use the restroom and she huffed her breath and said something about management. I asked sternly again and asked what is the problem? She didn't respond and only pointed at the restroom. I left the girls use the restroom and I purchased a coffee. I overheard her speaking negatively about us. If the policy says that you need to purchase something in order to use a restroom, we did just that. There should not have been an issue and this should not have been a poor experience. The cashier needs to be more considerate and flexible with parents with young children. read more

Came here on a Sunday for the 1st time. There was a paper menu up by the cashier but otherwise, no menu to look at while waiting in line. When it was our turn, the menu did not show the drinks (such as types of lattes, regular coffee, flat whites, macchiatos, hot chocolate, etc). So, no comprehensive list of drinks and no prices. There was a small board on the counter though, that listed a hibiscus tea, honeysuckle latte, and maybe another one. A board was also at the entrance that listed a couple special items, including an ube latte. The hibiscus tea was good so we rate that as a 4. The ube latte left a lot to be desired. There was no taste of ube, so we rate that as a 1. It was bland and way too much ice. Combine this with no prices listed beforehand and no menu of drinks, we rate the Cafenated Coffee place a 2. We will not come here again. read more
