Great place to try authentic Indian food! I ordered the coconut shrimp curry, and it was really delicious, nicely spiced and full of flavor. I got it medium, and honestly, it was still pretty spicy. I usually eat and enjoy spicy food, but this had some serious heat, so I probably wouldn't recommend going "hot" unless you're very confident. The service and atmosphere were both on point. Even though it was busy, our order came out pretty quickly, which was impresive. Highly recommend!

Kauai is basically food trucks everywhere, so we had to try at least one Indian spot. We stopped at Healthy Taste of India on Saturday around 5:40pm. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and an organic lemonade. Total was $29 which honestly felt a little steep for a food truck... but that's Kauai. Good news: the food was actually really good. The tikka masala had that creamy, warm spice thing going on (not watery at all), and the chicken was soft and cooked right, not dry. I kept scooping extra sauce into the rice and yeah... I was quiet for like 5 minutes just eating. That's always a good sign. The lemonade was also solid -- light, refreshing, not crazy sweet. Perfect after being out all day. Only small downside: if you plan to eat there, take it to-go instead. We tried eating it "inside" and the plate setup was kinda awkward. Not a big deal, just annoying when you're trying to eat curry without making a mess. Would I come back? Yeah. If you want something different from the usual Kauai plates, this one's worth it.

Amazing vegetarian options in Hanalei when visiting Tunnel beach or Hanalei bay. Had the medium coconut veggie curry which was perfect for lunch, warm and had good coconut flavor. It seemed the best food truck option among the others in this area. Good vibe with roosters waiting eagerly for any food dropped on the floor.

This place was great! I loved the shrimp curry. Food: I ordered the shrimp curry and I thought it was good flavor wise, but I feel like it was lacking a bit more flavor. I think it was due to the demographic that they usually service, if you get my point. Overall: If you want Indian food on Kauai, this is a great place to get some.

A few blocks from the Chin Yung Village shopping center is a parking lot that houses a few food trucks. It's called Hanalei street eats, and this is where you'll find some of the best Indian fare at Cafe Tumeric. Parking can get tight, you may be better off parking in the shopping area and walking to this place. They only accept cash/Venmo, and there's an additional $2 charge if you're paying using Venmo. They have vegetarian and seafood options. I got the Ono fish Vindaloo w/ Rice which is served with rice and was delicious! You can customize the spice level to your liking, I enjoy spicy food and got the highest spice level, which hit the spot for me. The flavors were closest to what one may find in India, which is a win in my book! The food came out pretty quickly in about 10 minutes despite a long line of orders. They have a shaded setting area shared with the other food trucks in the lot and a porch area for bar-like seating. The service is friendly, with the person checking on us asking us what we thought about the food as well!

Fish curry, saag chana and naan (oh my!)

We drove 30 minutes north in the rain to taste this Indian master piece. We were not disappointed! The menu here does change from time to time, but the food options are always yummy and great for all types of eaters (even the vegans). We ordered: 1.) Fish curry with medium spiciness 2.) Saag Chana 3.) Naan Our order came with rice and everything was absolutely delicious. I recommend coming a little early or not during peak hours to avoid lines. But, the food truck chefs try to move everything along fast. All meals are made to order and you can watch as your meal is being prepared. Try not to drool! The prices here are on the higher side but you should be used to that if you are visiting Hawaii! Also, if you like fish, don't leave here without trying the fish curry. It tastes just like the Indian Goan fish curry my mom makes - very authentic!

Grab your appetite and your cash (they have Venmo but do not accept CCs) and get over to Cafe Tumeric now! My dad and I shared the coconut veggie curry with regular naan and the Chana Palak with sweet naan (absolutely amazing!). We also got the mango lassi and guava nectar drinks. Everything and I mean everything was delicious! The line did get a bit long around 7p so hurry in early BUT it's only a 20 minute wait, so not a big deal. Nobody was battling to find seating since the other vendors were closed. Only the Brazilian place next door was open when we went (I'm not sure if this is the norm or not. Parking could potentially be hard because of the small lot. I would highly recommend the sweet naan bread - a dessert in itself. Sweetened by finely shredded coconut, honey and I believe I tasted cinnamon. The portion size was adequate, I left feeling satisfied. I think for the (island) price, it was fair and expected. About $18 dollars per plate plus the naan. The drinks were $8 each. That was a little shocking but they aren't allowed to serve water, so byow! ;) #protip Enjoy!

So we ended up at this food truck because of the rave reviews and also because this was the only Indian food we came across on the island so figured we would give it a try. The Coconut Shrimp Curry and the Chana Palak were really tasty. I have never had Chana Palak before and though I was skeptical, it made for a very wholesome dish. The Coconut Veg Curry though wasn't that great, it was a little tangy which was fun but somehow the texture and the flavor did not work out for me. Do check it out if you find yourself craving Indian food. You will need to grab water and drinks from the liquor store next door though.

Surprisingly delicious meal! We got shrimp curry and dal. Really quality meal that we all enjoyed!

We had the pleasure of eating at this adorable food truck twice while on island and as vegetarians appreciated the large selection, and portion sizes. Our favourite was the coconut curry which we were able to share between the two of us. Expect to wait 20 mins for your food but it is lovingly prepared on the spot from fresh ingredients and is absolutely worth the wait! read more

Amazing food and flavors. Authentic Indian food served with Aloha... Tried the fish curry and was blown away. Delicious curry and good amount of fish. Wife had the Chana Palak and has been raving about it ever since. She is vegetarian and was very happy that the menu had something to offer her. The chef and owner at Cafe Tumeric made my vegan coconut veg curry and vegan chana palak orders separate as I have a shellfish allergy. The food was some of the most delicious Indian food I've had, made fresh to order. We also ordered naan which was outstanding. My husband and I both loved the vegan chana palak best but thought both were delicious. Cafe Tumeric is cash only, and each meal was $13. The very fresh naan was $4. There were non-vegetarian dishes such as fish curry and possibly shrimp curry, but my husband and I went with the excellent vegan choices. The only mild setback was that this is a food truck with picnic table seating. The roosters were in rare form and one jumped up and hit my hand as I was eating. I wasn't hurt, but my husband had to be the rooster guard so that I could eat my food. BTW, these wild roosters and hens can fly. I've seen one actually make it to the first balcony of a building in Princeville. read more

Amazing food!!! One of my favorite places to eat in Hanalei and around Princeville. After being so used to the naan in Costco, I didn't know naan could taste this good! We got the shrimp coconut curry and pretty much licked the plate. It was a great sauce and can be made with vegetables instead of shrimp for the vegan/vegetarians out there. 100% would go back for more! read more

There are not many Indian restaurants in Kauai. This food truck has incredible and authentic. We ordered chickpea and spinach. It came with rice and it was delicious. I recommend this place to everyone. Esp vegetarian food. read more

Great Indian food made as you wait. I wanted some spice and asked about the vindaloo (fish on the board). I don't eat fish, and he said he could make it vegetarian for me! He then went back in the truck and started cooking. The portion that came out was generous, and the sauce was excellent. Spice and flavor, just what my palate needed. The food came out piping hot, so be careful as you may need to let it cool slightly (hard to do since it smells so good!). read more

An amazing food truck find on Kauai. The owners are really sweet, friendly, and genuinely love what they do. You can taste it in the food! Authentic Indian food with layers upon layers of delicious spices and tastes dished up in minutes. Wow! Fish curry was spectacular and a "medium" spicy provided a pleasant dose of kick. Naan was well prepared and not overly greasy. Mango lassi was solid. Check their hours (not open every day and they start serving at 1130am) before heading over. Worth the trip! read more

Holy cow is this good. Seriously maybe best Indian food I have ever had. Naan was so soft yet perfectly crisped just on the outside. The chana masala was AMAZING. Something so creamy and spicy and flavorful. And everything else we ordered was great too. We were with my dad's coworker who is Indian and he was so into it. He was the first customer waiting at 11:30! We went twice on our trip and would have gone again if it was open on Sundays. This whole little area with food trucks is great. read more

Very good Indian food. Large portion sizes. Kids also enjoyed the food. We tried 3 separate Vegetarian curries from this Food truck based restaurant. And all 3 were awesome. The Nan was excellent too. Given that this was a food truck, was a little surprised about the prices. A tad bit high IMO - but lower than other restaurants Around Hanalei Bay. And the quality was excellent. read more

Absolutely shocked to find this in a small town in Kauai. We have eaten at some amazing Indian restaurants in large cities known for their Indian food and this is up there with the best ones. Limited options as it's a food truck but the flavors here are incredible. We had the coconut vegetable Curry and the fish curry and both were amazing. Naan is also great for soaking up that delicious curry. Owners are super friendly. Hours are a bit sporadic. If business is slow they will shut down early so best to get there early so you don't miss out. Cash only. read more

The Chana palak was off the hook! If you are a fish lover then try the fish curry with a side of naan bread. You can choose from varying degrees of spicy mild to very!!! Once the flavors hit you pallette you will be in euphoria. You should try the hibiscus tea, very refreshing. What gem in Hanalei Bay. read more

Delicious food, however I have celiacs, and cannot have any gluten, top of menu currently says "authentic Indian food, naturally gluten free" .. And hope it changes or has asterisk added as for those with allergies or celiacs it can be misleading All of the food is not gluten free, naan is gluten, though cooked in a separate pan. I should know better to ask everything and every time but as there is naan on the menu under that headline (and people have made naan from chickpeas, gluten free) by the time we left I realized I hadn't really confirmed gluten free or not the first time we left with our to go order. Ugh oops. Confirmed second time back, their naan Is gluten. No more naan for me here :-(. Was so excited by that prospect of gluten free naan but will have to make my own . Otherwise I usually stick to my faves Indian food wise and now have a whole new genre I enjoy, the vindaloos are so delicious. read more

The food at Cafe Turmeric is amazing!! I ordered the Coconut Veg Curry and it could not have been better. My husband and his uncle ordered the Coconut Shrimp Curry and each had about 7 large pieces of shrimp per meal. This food truck has the best Indian food on the island, and the service is excellent. You can tell the owners really take pride in what they do. I'll be back. =) read more

Had the veggie coconut curry with rice. Since there was a lot more curry compared to the rice, we ordered a naan on the fly. Naan was extremely soft and fluffy and definitely one of the best I have had so far. Curry was creamy and full of flavor. read more

Can't rave enough about this place. I'm originally from India and have lived in San Francisco for last 11 years. You can imagine how many Indian restaurants and home cooked meals I have eaten. I have to say this is one of the best Indian meals I have eaten! Home style, spices on point, very delicious and fresh meal. I was surprised to find such good Indian food in Hanalei! Best Indian Food I've had in my entire life. If you are in Haleiwa and want an authentic dining experience, cafe Turmeric will deliver some awesome meals catering half of their menu to vegans. I had the option for mild medium and spicy for the yummy fish curry served with basmati rice. It was so good. Orgasmic is the only word I can think of at the moment beside becoming aware of the breath or body the fire that warms our souls listening to the sounds and seeing the sights. Thanks Dev read more

2 best meals we had on Kauai were just as big of a surprise to me than they are to you. Both food trucks. Fresh Bite and Cafe Turmeric (and they're next to each other). Cafe Turmeric has so much flavor going on it's kinda astounding. They found their "umami". We eat Indian foos everywhere we go and this little truck rivals some of our tops.
