A lot of that has to do because it says so on the sign. But even if that wasn't there, you would guess it's genre of restaurant. The inner part of the building, where the cooking and eating take place, also speaks loudly of this restaurants affiliation with sports. One thing that was nice with this place was that the seating is spread out enough to where you don't feel packed in. There's plenty of room for movement without having to stand on a table to let people walk by. As is the custom, I ordered boneless wings as an app. Buffalo flavor. The sauce. not the animal. Came with complimentary ranch I will use and complementary celery I will ignore. The wings were good. Had great flavor and the breading wasn't too thick. I like the taste of chicken in my boneless chicken pieces. Also, as is the custom, I ordered a second app. The pizza puffs. Now, from where I come from, we have several sports bar restaurants that specialize in Pizza Puff Apps™. Therefore, those restaurants are the bar to which these will be measured. That being said, I do feel the outside of these were a little too hard. Almost had a crust. Not ideal. The PPA (Pizza Puff Apps™) I'm used to are like fluffy clouds of dreams. Like puffs are meant to be. Theses missed that mark. The marinara sauce was good and the orange cheese was great. Though they do upcharge for the OC (Orange Cheese). My Main Character Meal™ was the classic fish-n-chips. Cod: 2 pieces. Fries: Crinke. Firstly, the fries. Crinkle cut fries are God tier and I saw Jesus with these. Secondly, the fish was great. Great batter, great flakeyness. The missed the mark with the tartar sauce though. It had a sweet taste, which didn't couple well with the fish taste. Tartar sauce needs to have more of the first part of their name in it. Oh. The southwest ranch for obligatory fry dipping was fantastic. I personally think it had been about 35 years since I'd seen anybody there. To be honest, not being from the area (I live in Troy, MI) when told where we were going to a Bar & Grill called Spag's I didn't know what to think. Well, it was perfect! We had our own room and were not rushed to leave after finishing lunch. The service was great, as was the food. The tables were consistently cleared, waitstaff very attentive; if you wanted to order a drink from the bar they didn't take long to get. We had plenty of room. There were rectangle tables along the wall so that all the memorabilia could be nicely displayed. I also liked that there were 8 seats at round tables. I don't like when places cram 10 seats. Not related to the restaurant, I'd like to add a bit more of why we were all gathered together. There were 4 generations of family from 3 different states. Jim had one surviving niece and was an Uncle of various generations to the rest of us. After 82 years, James W. Swartz remains were finally identified and returned home to be laid to rest with his parents. His parents never gave up hope that one day he would be identified and come home. He was only 18 when he signed up to serve. At that time WW2 had not begun. Jim was a prisoner of war at the Cabanatun Japanese POW Camp In 1942. He survived the unimaginable , inhumane & cruel 66 mile "Bataan Death March" in April of '42 to the Japanese POW camp. Unfortunately, his hand was cut during the march and because he received no medical care it became gangrene which was probably the major cause of his death. He passed away September '42 and was buried in mass grave # 434 with no type of identification attached. When the grave was exhumed in 1949, Jim's remains were classified nonrecoverable. Over the years the remains were moved to other sites, but still unidentifiable. Finally in November 2024 his family was told they identified his remains and he would be brought back home in April or May 2025. In closing, I'd like to thank Spag's for being so considerate to all of us at the luncheon. Your kindness was greatly appreciated. If I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely stop in. I asked him to let me know what appetizer was the favorite and if the French onion soup was really as good as their reviews indicated, he responded positively to both and recommended the breadsticks so we got an order of those. They came with a side cup of ranch dressing and marinara sauce for dipping. It was a huge order. The breadsticks which had been brushed with butter and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese were quite large. I believe they were under nine dollars so a really good choice for four very hungry people. We both ended up eating one, but then took the rest home and we actually ate them with our meal which was the French onion soup. Our server brought them just a little bit prior to our soup. He had asked if we wanted them separate or with the soup and we both said we honestly didn't care. I hate to say this, but both of us were very disappointed by the soup-we just kind of looked at each other at the same time as we started, carefully taking small amounts in our spoons as it was quite hot (when I get soup the hotter the better) so that was actually a positive for me. We both thought the broth was lacking the beefy onion flavor. (We usually eat at another chain restaurant but we both love to support local. The chain restaurant had consistently provided good French Onion Soup. We also detected a sourness which we didn't believe belonged in French Onion Soup. There was definitely an appropriate sized chunk of bread and some cheese melted over the entire crock. When it came to the table, it looked very tasty. Would we come back?
