This little hole in the wall Peruvian deli is quirky and quaint. The food is unusual and well made. It's a great spot to dine with friends or on your own. It's quite popular and gets busy. They have a couple Peruvian desserts that are really delicious and a sauce they put on the potatoes that is kind of a spicy mayo that's so popular they sell it in small containers for home. Holy sandwich overlords this place is SO good! I had the #8 (rotisserie chicken, bacon, avocado, mozzarella cheese, romaine lettuce, shoestring potatoes, salsa golf, aji amarillo) and it was amazing as was my bf's, he had the #5 (house roasted pork. bacon, caramelized onions, fried egg, romaine, shoestring potatoes, house spicy chimichurri, salsa golf). Super fresh ingredients, really nice bread with just the right amount of chewy breadiness and crunchy exterior without being so crunchy it cuts up the roof of your mouth, and the various sauces... Great food and cool people. Having just returned from three weeks in Peru, I can attest to the authenticity of the sauces, the desserts and the chicha morada. The chicha here was actually better than any I had in Peru... My two faves are the Pavo (turkey) sanghueche and the Peruvian eggs benedict - fantastic. Antonio, one of the two owners, is seemingly always there and definitely always friendly. They also sponsor Salsa nights and I am told they are terrific. It may be a bold statement, but I'm going to say it anyway... Best sandwich in Bellingham! I had been meaning to try this place for a while & I'm truly sad it took me so long! My friend and I came on a week night and there were only a few other patrons in the place. The girls behind the counter were bubbly and super helpful. I decided to order the Pollo. My friend is vegetarian and luckily you're able to substitute sweet potatoes for any meat. For the sandwich and a side of potatoes it was less than $10, which is very reasonable in my eyes. Just like life is all about balance, a sandwich is all about balance. And Cafe Rumba excels in this regard! The bread is soft with crisp edges, the chicken is high quality and the shoestring potatoes and apple slaw add a great crunch. Even with the menu in front of me, I still have no idea what the green sauce is. But it is delicious nonetheless! The aiji on the potatoes definitely had a kick, but one of my favorite parts of this place is how much flavor is in the food. You won't find anything bland here! Will be back! read more

I never write Yelp reviews, but I feel obligated to share my sheer excitement at the fact that this place exists in Bellingham. Having spent enough time in Peru & Bolivia to be familiar with the flavors there and being a lover of doing a few things in a high quality way, this place hits the mark and then some. The bread is authentic and shipped up from Seattle, the meat is amazing, and the condiments are outstanding. The newspaper in Juneau, AK, where one of the owners moved from, wrote an extended article lamenting his emigration because he was so well-loved as a community figure. What's not to like? Apparently some changes are also afoot- including some more American-style sandwiches as a gateway for those who aren't quite aji lovers yet. Come check it out!! read more

Also we had a Board special Pollo sandwich, with ham bacon, mozzarella, romaine on a great crusty roll. There was a steady lunch crowd, good service under the crush, very helpful order taker with incredible eyes, indoor and outdoor seating, clearly defined items on the board, but the food just didn't do it for me. Stopped for lunch. This would be my second time trying this place. The first time was about a year and a half ago and it was delicious. After I finished this sandwich, I questioned why i don't eat here once a week and why it's taken me so long to come back. Had the #1 Butifarra and it was hands down one of the best sandwiches I've had. And being a sandwich guy, that's saying something. Absolutely delicious. The side of potatoes were excellent as well. Finally tried this place during my lunch break. The people working here are super nice. I ordered the vegetarian sandwich and can't remember what all it had but I know there was mozzarella cheese and yams and other vegetables. We wanted to eat in the restaurant but it got really busy and we ended up waiting for over 20 minutes for our order so unfortunately didn't have time left and had to take the food to go. My sandwich was very tasty but it was extremely messy. I thought it was a bit overpriced too, but it was definitely unique and not like any other sandwich I've had. This place is really great and just what Bellingham needs. With the influx of the chain restuarant, I find my native town lacking in "real" cuisine. I ordered the Butifarra. The mix of flavors was wonderful. Who would think to put a yam on a sandwich but the sweetness of the yam is a compliment to the overall flavor. The sauce was spicy and full of kick which I love. My 18 and 17 yr olds, who aren't foodies, both had the BLT and my daughter said it was the best she'd ever had. I didn't give them 4 stars because, for the price, there should have been a basket of the yummy potatoes instead of just 4 slices, and the blender in the kitchen is so loud we had to stop our conversation. Would highly recommend Rumba and we will be back! read more

I love the food here! One of my favorite things is that the staff can make any of their sandwiches as a plate/salad instead of serving it on bread. That's so nice for those of us avoiding bread, but the friends I have been here with say that the bread is just awesome. It's a hit for bread eaters and non-bread eaters alike, ha! The most delicious sauce and unique sandwich flavors in Bellingham.

This was a great lunch stop on our way to the border. Sandwiches were stacked thick with meat and South American condiments that gave them a lot of flavor. Sides of potatoes were served with a just spicy enough sauce, and salad greens looked fresh. Although we rarely buy beverages, they had kombucha from a brewer just around the corner. The food was good, but the service was not. When we ordered, the servers were quite grumpy and told us it would be about a twenty minute wait. This ended up being an hour.
