Burnt Birria
Jessilyn C.

When Cafe Rio first opened my family and I went to dine there. I figured they were new, and the crew still needed a lot of training which was understandable. I didn't care for the place, or their food, but my husband, and children didn't mind it. So they've been going Cafe Rio for years. I on the other hand would not budge. Plus the fact that every time they order delivery, there's always a problem, but since they get a refund, they still support Cafe Rio. However recently my husband told me that Cafe Rio now has Birria tacos. Knowing how Birria is one of my fave tacos that I'll travel far just to get some, I decided to go ahead and give them another chance. My husband ordered delivery, and wouldn't you know it...my order wasn't delivered. So dealing with corporate to receive refund wasn't a joy either. But since my husband had two burrows in his order, he just shared with me. I figured ok it's not bad, it's not as good as what I get at different places that serve Birria or Mexican food for all that matter. But I decided to give them yet another chance, and order Birria tacos the week after. Again it wasn't bad, but the consommé was missing. Ok so we didn't complain because it's a good thing I ordered chips, and guacamole to help since I didn't have any consommé to dip my Birria taco in. So you might wonder why the 1 star...well you'd think 3rd time's a charm right...wrong! Today my husband ordered a Birria meal for me to arrive when I got home. This time the consommé arrived, and it was delivered with care. But both my tacos were burnt that both inedible. My daughter said why don't you get your money back? I'm tired of having to get refunds! So instead, I just can't support this place anymore. If my daughters decide to dine there that's their choice. But I can't spend anymore at Cafe Rio. I would rather fly to L.A., San Diego or even Mexico to get good food , and spend the money there.

Burrito bowl salad

Food is just okay. $13 for a burrito, $13 for a salad. Picked up. Burrito --- got some barbacoa. Few issues: - Lathered in sweet sauce. Why the hell is the Barbacoa so sweet? Tasted like a dessert. - The rice in the burrito was undercooked. I was starving and yet I felt like I ate the burrito out of necessity rather enjoyment. Does that sound like a good lunch? Wife got the salad. Had a wedge/end of the lettuce stem. Who eats that? Uneven chopped lettuce. Noticed also some black ends of the lettuce. Feels off and difficult to eat with the variations in lettuce size. Honestly, I don't think the people hired here know how to cook or weren't taught the right methods of cooking. If I get sick from this salad, it may be due to the quality of lettuce. It needs an overhaul and I wouldn't be surprised if this restaurant is a part of kitchen nightmares.

Really enjoyed this meal! Think it's better to go in person as they seem to do better with getting your order right. Great meal!

They have great deals on Tuesday.

Love the Tuesday special. $6.99 are they out of their mind. I've only had their chicken. I love the green sauce. I found the copy cat years before they moved into Washington so I was excited to see them opening up. They make fresh tortillas right in front of you. The food is prepared in front of you too. It's not my husbands favorite place. He prefers a dry burrito of a wet. The wet burritos are awesome in the tray. But they definitely don't know how to wrap a burrito so it can be hand held. Needless to say I don't come here as much as I'd like.

Pretty good and the food does seem to taste better than chipotle. The Queso and Thursday shrimp tacos are great!

I definitely went overboard here but I was coming back from a Mt Rainier hike, so could you blame…read moreme? We came here at 5pm on Wed and there was no wait. Wait started probably around 6pm although there were still empty tables then. They provide garnishes for your water and also provide 4 salsas/accompaniments for your meal. I got the 16 oz ribeye served on hot stones. They cooked it slightly less than what you want, so for my medium rare, they cook it rare. It also comes with chimichurri and molacete(?) which has a more refreshing flavor. They season with rosemary and even light a branch on fire for more aroma. I tried a bite of my friend's filet mignon which was good, but my preferred cut is the ribeye or NY strip. We also shared the papa loca (worth it - so good) and the cauliflower (not as good, but I'm comparing it to a version made by Cuerno, a Mexican steakhouse in NY). I had a glass of the pinot noir and the garzon, and both were good, slightly tannic and 'juicy'.

I've gone here twice now and could not remember the name as the first time I tried it so I'm glad I…read morecame again! The first time I got the Wagyu tacos which were sooo good and I love the variety and flavor of the sauces. I loved how simple the taco Wagyu is as the meat is high quality For my second visit I got the Vacio Wagyu which came in a sizzling hot stone plate and it stayed hot for me to cook all of my Wagyu. It didn't really need the accompanied sauce but it was nice to have. I felt the large rock salt was a little bit nub and would make it too saucey but I found the rosemary a perfect combination with the Wagyu especially as one was cooking underneath. Excellent service as well - our server was attentive and timely. I've only gone here for lunch and we did not have to make a reservation as it was not too busy!

The long: steak culture is incredibly mundane and steakhouses themselves often overcommit and underdeliver. Vue has cracked the code bringing flavor to steak houses. They go beyond the traditional salt and pepper approach and introduce Mexican and Hmong flavors in their dishes. If haven't had the honor of dining in a home from either culture, you're in for a treat. I personally like their New York strip Their family love can be felt in the decor, the interactions, the attention to the customers and the food. For me these were flavors and the culture of care I grew up with. So I'm exited for their success, mark my words they will be the best steakhouse in Washington in the next 2 years. They're working with something special here.

I'm sorry that I have to revise my original review. Instead of 2 stars, I'm changing it to 1…read more The reason is not only my original experience but also the owner's response. Rather than acknowledging my concerns, they chose to argue with my experience and made factual claims that are inaccurate. The reply also reads like a generic AI generated response instead of a genuine attempt to address customer feedback. First, there is no such thing as a "gaucho torta". In Argentine spanish, the word torta refers to a sweet cake. A savory sandwich is not called a torta, so this is clearly a creative invention rather than an Argentine dish. Second, my review was specifically about these kinds of "creative" reinterpretations, not about traditional cuisines. I have traveled extensively throughout Argentina, as well as other countries in Latin America and Europe, and I appreciate that every restaurant is free to innovate. However, when you choose to reinterpret a traditional cuisine, you should also expect that some customers will appreciate those changes while others will not. Both perspectives are valid. Regarding the chimichurri, traditional Argentine recipes have historically relied on neutral oils such as sunflower or corn oil, although recipes vary by region and household. Presenting your version as the definitive authentic one while dismissing a customer's perspective is misleading. The disappointing part was not the food itself but the response. Instead of engaging respectfully with a customer who offered thoughtful criticism, the owner chose to argue with my experience and present questionable "facts" as if they settled the matter. Constructive criticism is an opportunity to improve, not something to dismiss. Here is my original review, my apologies for the confusion on the "bowl": There is plenty of steak, but the bowl is styled to appear fuller than it is, with an excessive amount of greens doing the visual heavy lifting. The steak itself is buried under butter and a heavy white sauce that mutes rather than complements the beef. The large, roughly cut potatoes aspire to a rustic aesthetic but read as inexpensive filler. Most confusing is the lack of culinary identity, the dish isn't recognizably Mexican, Italian, or particularly refined. It mistakes richness for sophistication
