A dreary Sunday morning, brought me and my family here for brunch. The outside is a cute tone of welcome to our kitchen. However, I am not sure what we were expecting as far as quality, but noting the rave reviews from other yelpers and wanting to have a bottle of champagne with our OJ, viola Cafe Paris it is! The BYOB policy that is all over this area (cranford) is a great perk to keep the meal price tag low. Plus the menu prices are very nice. I saw nothing more than 16$ and that was just 1 item. Most are in the 12-13 range. The history of the restaurant is compelling as the owner is from Paris, and hunts local markets for her ingredients. I think i caught a glimpse of her toiling away in the kitchen with that traditional French chef poise! The interior is decorated with murals of Paris, which seems like a little girls bedroom walls, but the place is spacious with nice large tables. We were one of 2 parties in the whole place. This MUST be a well kept secret so don't let it out! As I said we didn't really know what to expect, but what we got was a solid food experience. I cannot say that it was "brunch" as they offered an entire menu of traditional French treats...onion soup, to beef bourguignon, to sweet crepes to savory crepes and many choices in between. So if you are looking for the NYC brunch"ie" experience this is not really it, but don't despair they execute a VERY nice meal--it was exceptional really!! For further reference they have a full coffee bar as well, and many pastries to take away...or eat in if you like. With 5 in tow, 4 of us had the traditional buckwheat crepe called galletes. they are filled with anything from veggies, to meat, to seafood. I love that this place serves the food in a French portion style since when I saw that my choice of gallette had 2 kinds of cheeses i thought I was going to get a Denny's style cheese explosion. How pleasantly surprised i was to see just a sprinkle of 2 cheeses over my gallette--total bonus. That was great because we had room to share a sweet crepe at the end, and boy was it worth it. 1 in our party got quiche and she seemed to like it as well. All the plates were clean at the end of the meal...as was the champagne bottle LOL!! This place was amazing! I randomly saw it on yelp due to the area I was visiting and decided to do a so o brunch there. I thoroughly enjoyed myself from the moment I walked in. It was quite but inviting. The decor was nice it made me miss Paris. I ordered a latte, crepes and bcon. Yes I am a bacon lover! The lady was very nice in making sure I had everything I needed. This is truly one of my favorite spots. It's a cute Paris themed cafe (duh, the name). They have a decent selection of salads, sandwiches, soups, especially CREPES! I love the crepes! You must get one (or more) if you love crepes/have a sweet tooth. I wish they had meal crepes not just dessert crepes...hint hint. :) Atmosphere is very relaxed. I like that they have the outdoor seating as an option on those nice weather days. I've been coming here for so long and have been here many times. The place is nicely decorated, it's small but I didn't have to wait for a table. I went there on a Saturday morning and ordered a Chicken and tomatoes omelet and a cafe au lait. The food was very good, the omelet was served with a salad that seem fresh and had a very nice dressing.Overall, I was pleased with the food. The service was ok, I only saw my server when she took the order and when she brought it to the table, never came back to ask if everything was ok or ito pick up the empty plates. I had to walk to the register to get the check and pay. I found it to be expensive for what you get, I paid almost 20 bucks, you could get the same at any other place for 10 bucks. I was so pleased when I discovered this quaint little place in my beloved hometown. It is a wonderful brunch alternative to the half dozen bagel shops within city limits. Cafe Paris boasts a richly flavored french onion soup, a number of delicious sandwiches on fresh and wonderful breads, and generously portioned omelettes. There was only one other table occupied when I went in with my party at 11 a.m. on a Saturday, so I certainly hope it gets busier as the day goes on. This place is DIRTY. I went in with my girlfriend to have a nice Friday night. We walked to our table and when we sat down there was dirty silverware and napkins left which they never cleared. What a disgrace . We ordered 2 crapes and 2 glasses of tap water. Our crepes came out in 2 seconds with no silverware and no water. We had to remind the worker to bring us water. Then she when we got the bill, she charges us $2 for each tap water. When we complained the worker yelled at us. Overall this was not a good restaurant and I would not NEVER go again! read more

As soon as I walked in, I was in love. The decor includes France themed walls with paintings of many landmarks in France. The music playing in the background is slow French music. I came for lunch and it was not packed, but I liked this. It's a nice place to come with a friend, on a date, or even by yourself to read a book. I started out with the French onion soup. Place was half full with customers but looked like only 2-3 people running the place including the cook. - Do NOT even think of coming here for Bubble Tea. I'm pretty new to Cranford and noticed this place for the first time last night on my way back home from picking up food for dinner. I am big into crepes but have never found a local spot so when I saw they offered crepes I immediately looked them up on yelp when getting home. We decided to call and order some for pickup. We had some family over so we ordered like 6 crepes (all sweet). A wide variety of their chocolate and berry type crepes. In short, everyone loved them! For pickup, it was impressive they had it ready in 10 mins. My sister loved the peanut butter they used. They have a homemade berry sauce that is really good. My wife and I decided to come back for brunch this morning with our kids. First off, the ambience is really nice. I've never been to Paris but the place resembles I nice little quaint cafe in downtown paris. My son and I split the waffles with strawberries and my wife had a sweet crepe. The waffles were dry and powdery. Overall, I wouldn't order them again. My wife loved her crepe and towards the end my son and I were finishing off her plate. We also had the strawberry milkshake and the mocha frozen drink. Strawberry milkshake tasted like it was made from syrup but the mocha drink was pretty good. This café was a real disappointment. This cafe might be better for brunch, but the quiche we ordered had egg shells in it.... The server did not apologize or even comment on it. She simply took the plate away and left our table. She never asked our table if we needed more drinks or even ask how the food was. One of the worst service experiences by far. The lamb dish was smothered in gravy that tasted like it came from a package. The lamb tasted like a cheap slab of beef. The beef bourguignon tasted and looked like something from a curry/gravy packet. The green beans were overcooked and the mashed potatoes were dry. What was even worse was that the chocolate cake in the case was a Costco cake. Very few desserts appeared to be homemade, which was fine, but anyone can make overcooked green beans and buy a cake from Costco. Given the fact that there's Cafe Monet in Millburn and Chez Catherine in Westfield, there's no reason to eat mediocre French food in Cranford... read more

I shake my head and wonder why I am friends with him. 9:45am - Friend and I are hungry. We decide we need to eat. We walk outside and start walking into town 9:50am - Friend and I are cold and regret walking 9:55am - Arrive at Cafe Paris. We are happy. We like the painting of Paris on the walls. We both agree it's small and cute. 10:00am - We order crepes and warm honey milk. Warm honey milk is yummy, I am happy. 10:15am - My ground turkey, spinach, mozz, mush crepe & friend's sausage crepe comes out. I eat mine and love it. I eat some of friends and think mine is better. My friend agrees. I am lucky to have the better meal. 10:30am - I am full. I can only eat half of my crepe. I plan to get it to go. I go to bathroom and come back to see my crepe gone. I'm guessing the people who are giving this place 4 or 5 stars either have never eaten real French food or aren't rating the food. If I were to rate the atmosphere and service, I might be inclined to go a tad bit higher, but for me the food trumps the service so this one is definitely a "Meh." The place is cute, the decor is cozy, the staff was very nice and the service was quick (although I was the only one in the restaurant at the time). The food, however, is terribly mediocre and overpriced. I had the squash soup to start. It was OK, but tasted like it had been heated in the microwave and was majorly under-salted. I also had the Galette Briard, a savory crepe with smoked turkey, brie, swiss and tomatoes. The meat and cheese were sliced lunch meat. They didn't even taste as if they were fresh from the deli, they tasted packaged and flavorless. Also, in spite of the crepe being warm, the fillings were cold so the cheese didn't even melt. The crepe was OK, but with the fillings it basically tasted like an expensive wrap. The side salad was some kind of mixed greens that were clearly from a bag and not crisp in any way, one tiny slice of tomato and bottled balsamic viniagrette that tasted disgusting. Honestly, for $14 you could at least whip up a fresh viniagrette, it takes 2 minutes, even I do that at home. Granted I did not try any of the other menu items, but I suspect since they are clearly not using fresh ingredients, the other dishes would be much the same. This would be fine if they were charging diner prices, but they are charging upscale café prices, so I expect better. read more

Came here a couple of times and while the crepes were pretty tasty, they were stingy with the fruits, strawberry or whatever I had on it. The last time I ordered a strawberry nutella crepe and it tasted disgusting. It was obviously made with frozen strawberries which weren't even frozen. That was the worst crepe I ever had in my life, I'm not even sure if you can call it a crepe. I tell the waitress that it tasted bad, especially the frozen strawberries and she says, they are fresh. I was appalled at that comment so I just asked for the check and left without any arguments. So I'm going with three stars on this based on the ideals that the reader will be interested in the overall performance of the establishment. If we were to base this review strictly to their establishment on being a cafe, I would go with four stars. The food is good, a bit overpriced, but if you get something worthwhile it's okay knowing you're still paying a bit too much. The great thing about the menu is that it changes from time to time, which I think is a great thing to have people come back and check out if anything new has appeared. The menu is always chewy - you can sit and have it marinate for a while before you finally decide. Choices tend to be just the slightest bit different than what you'd expect from a cafe. For the most part though, the food is always good, but never really outstanding, and again not exactly worth the price - it's good enough where it won't make you regret paying for it though (Odd huh?). The atmosphere is very nice too, and keeps a good comparison to that of a commercial cafe in Paris. The artwork is wonderful and the space is big enough where you don't feel like you shouldn't be eating there (like ordering at a Dunkin Donuts and then sitting down and eating - wwweeeiiiirrrrrdddd) and small enough where it can be personal. It can be a bit too quiet there though, so only go with some one that you know you can have conversation with or don't mind having moments of silence with. The host is usually the waiter and there is only one chef on hand it seems, but both have been very friendly and helpful with the menu. The coffee....mmmmm, coffee. It's very good, and that's the best way to sum it up. It's very good coffee and is worth going for. I was being realistic when I came here. I wasn't asking for a authentic trip to Paris or anything. I expected a homey, yummy, and affordable lunch but this place fell rather short of that. First, the croque madame is the frenchman's fancied up version of a ham& cheese. So why is the croque here made with toasted wonder bread? That was a chewy piece of disappointment. Fortunately, it was only $10 and the side salad was good. My buckwheat lamb crepe was good although lacking a bit in uniformity and the asparagus is definitely out of place. The coffees were weak and a bit pricy. $5 for a regular-sized mug of cafe au lait, even in a restaurant, is on the high end. Service was fine but I noticed there was only one person serving the entire floor? That's a bit much for one person to handle for breakfast/lunch on a Saturday. I have been wanting to come here for ages - I pass it several times a week, and finally my aunt and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. There are several tables outside on the sidewalk in the nicer weather, which is pleasant, but the inside is absolutely charming. There are murals with scenes from Paris covering the walls, and they really are beautiful. I was shocked at how extensive the menu was - I could not make up my mind, and neither could my aunt. We had delicious coffee, and my aunt had the croque monsieur with a mixed greens salad on the side, and loved it. I chose the sandwich au fromage, which was fresh mozzarella, lettuce, roasted pepper, tomato and olive oil. It was divine. We split a crepe a la mousse au chocolat, which was a crepe with chocolate mousse, chocolate sauce and whipped cream - heavenly. I will definitely return - it's nearby, fresh, delicious, reasonably priced and has warm and attentive service. read more

We went here for brunch on a Sunday. They have some nice classic french items and a good selection of hot and cold drinks. My only complaint would be that there was only one waitress for the inside and outside. She was very overwhelmed and I often felt she was horrying to talk with us so that she could get back to her other tables. It would be nice if they would hire another person during the weekend and especially when they have their outdoor seats open. The salmon isn't cook enough in the middle and old freezer stock that has after taste on it. The vegetables was over cooked. I eat here when I need comfort food. Any my comfort food at this place is the duck. Thinly sliced pieces in a brown sauce with a hint of orange, mashed potatoes and string beans and carrots. I've been going there, although not often enough, since it opened. Every time I've ordered the duck. I know my food will be prepared exactly as it was each and every time before. No surprises. And that's a good thing. My Café Paris dining buddy also orders the same thing every time, beef bourguignon. Last nite we were both licking our plates. Thank you Chef Claude. Pricey? Yes. Cafe Paris- a quaint cafe located across the street from the Cranford Hotel (cross South ave) Cafe Paris seems very charming. The house is pin-drop quite. I had dinner with three others on a Thursday evening. I have to stress some type of overhead music would go a long way for the patrons. The tables are very close, also an IKEA type of furniture. to get to the meal- very disappointing. The service was spot on, but the food felt supermarket bought. thinks you can byob..... This place is a gem for the area. Probably the best French food in the area. The gallets were really good, I'm usually wary of them at certain places because the crepe is too thin and doesn't hold up, but the buckwheat mixture was really good and tasty, held up well with the savory items. I had the one with the egg on it, great for brunch or brinner. I had the beef also, beef wasnt as tender as I like it, but the sauce had a great flavor. In fact all the sauces were great. Love Cafe Paris in Cranford! We have been here at least 50 times over the past 2-3 years and we have never been let down. We usually go for dinner and it has recently become our Friday night spot. My husband grabs a bottle of wine and we meet for a delicious and relaxing dinner after a long week. It's quiet and quaint and we have never had to wait for a table. The service is fantastic and the people are super friendly. The menu is huge for such a small spot and everything is delicious. I am partial to the quiches and homemade soups. We have been here with small groups and large, family and friends, out of towners and people from the area--everyone loves it. We have vegetarians in the family and they always find plenty on the menu. Save room for dessert! The crepes, pies and many other sweets are fantastic! If you are looking to celebrate a special occasion or just have a simple dinner for two, it is a perfect combination of great food and atmosphere and will not let you down. It is within walking distance from the train station and parking is easy to find on Walnut or other nearby streets on most evenings. They have a Metuchen location as well-slightly bigger. You will get the same great quality service and food there too. This is the place if you are looking for a unique spot for a relaxing meal with friends or loved ones--a change of pace from the cookie cutter chain restaurant experience.
