Don't skip on this cafe on your stroll through the city. Placed on the corner, near where most students live, is this delicious cafe with the nicest group of employees. These sandwiches will definitely fill your stomach without denting your wallet

A group of us had takeout from here and I'm a fan! Located across the street from UMMC, it is a convenient location to grab a quick bite to eat at very affordable lunch prices (just about everything from salad to sandwich to pasta salad is about $5-6 before tax/tip. I tried the California chicken salad which was a solid choice. The salad itself was just lettuce, some tomatoes and sprouts and the chicken salad part was a bit dry alone, but what made the salad extremely tasty was the vinaigrette that came with it. Whatever was in that dressing was absolutely divine! From reading other reviews now though, I should have gone for a pasta salad or a sandwich (maybe next time!). Ultimately a quick and convenient location to grab lunch.

Tuna salad sandwich on sunflower bread

Just stopped in for a quick bite and was greeted by the most welcoming owner. Service was super friendly and fast, and my sandwich was made quickly and perfectly. I got a tuna salad sandwich on the sunflower bread, with tomato, cucumber, lettuce, and sprouts. Everything was cut fresh and the tuna was so delish. I will be coming back next time I need a wholesome, delicious meal.

If you are in need of a quick lunch you need to check out Cafe on the Square! Don't let a long line intimidate you -- I'm usually in and out in 4 minutes flat. The owner, Jon, is up front and takes your orders. He is possibly one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. He can juggle taking several orders at once and even remembers his loyal customers' orders. So far, I've tried the Buffalo Bill (rare roast beef, swiss and horseradish on sourdough) and the Black Russian (turkey, roast beef, Russian dressing on marble rye). The turkey is a bit dry, so the Buffalo Bill is my favorite. I also switch out the sourdough bread for the sunflower bread which is really good. And the sandwiches are HUGE -- they definitely don't skimp out on the meat.

Neptune's delight pasta salad - filled with crab, shrimp, broccoli, and pea pods - a delicious and filling lunch!

I enjoyed a delicious lunch here, while sitting at a window seat, enjoying the fall colors of the park across the street. The Neptune's delight pasta salad was a great choice!

The sunflower bread was so fresh and tasted amazing. The chicken salad was delicious, I would definitely eat here again!

I'm a pescatarian so I haven't tried their BBQ meats (the friends I've brought have raved about their brisket) but they do have a vegan jackfruit sandwich that's solid and I love their Mac and cheese. I normally go to sit at the bar and enjoy their cocktails and whiskey selection which is one of the best near me. They have a great selection of some of those hard to acquire bourbons and quite a few exclusive barrel picks. The last time I was in, my buddy and I finally tried their Buffalo Trace and Rittenhouse picks on their own (as opposed to my standard Manhattan) and I ended up taking a bottle of their Rittenhouse home.

Service was friendly and welcoming upon walk-in, but that was the best part of our experience. The food sadly did not match the reputation. EVERYTHING came out lukewarm, the brisket was overcooked and dry, cornbread was burnt and hard, greens had no seasoning, and the baked beans were overwhelmingly vinegary. The bratwurst was underwhelming with no real snap, and even the B-side drink was way too sour. The mac & cheese and coffee BBQ sauce were the only good items of our entire meal. I really hope the kitchen staff was having an uncommon off-day, because this visit didn't reflect the recognition at all. Our meal was a compete letdown, so I hope they improve for future diners soon. PS - There is an upstairs and a downstairs, but if you sit upstairs, you have to order your food downstairs - they do bring the food up to you though.

I can confidently say that everyone that recommended this place was right. I had the Seoul skillet with pork belly, kimchi and mushrooms and wow, was it good! The flavors melted perfectly and it was the epitome of a well balanced breakfast. Service was fine - a bit slow, but they were incredibly busy, so I don't fault them at all for that. One thing I do hate is having to continuously ask for my water to be refilled, and I was left with an empty glass quite often but again, they were swamped so I do understand. Ambience is very interesting here, I don't know that I have ever been to a more eclectic restaurant. The decor is all over the place but it really does fit the vibe so I say this with zero negativity. It's quite tight in the space but that's totally fine. Overall I will 100% be coming back and would recommend anyone else do so.

The Filipino breakfast with rice, longaniza & egg accompanied by a mango slaw. My only complaint is the rice needed way more garlic. Everything else was on point. The second meal was Shakshouka and it was delicious. I'd change nothing. It's an open kitchen with the seating of a somewhat rustic atmosphere. The staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. I'd definitely recommend.

But they do have a wide menu which includes cheesesteak so I decided to give them a try. Then came the 100% disappointing sad cheesesteak I was served. From the soggy bread, to the wrapper that stuck to my cheese and turned my cheesesteak into just the "steak" part. The flavor was that of a piece of bread soaked in water and tasteless. Overall did not come close to fulfilling my craving. Service was the same to follow. I approached the counter where I was greeted. The only customer service part of my experience. I told her my name and she said it would be a few more minutes. The woman then stated talking to her coworkers.. nonstop chatter. All the while the back cooks were bringing up food. And they were bagging it. After about 10 minutes of waiting. I interrupted the chatter and asked if my sandwich would be coming soon (at this point it had been 20 minutes since I ordered). She then asked me my name again and then grabbed a bag that had been sitting in the counter for some time and handed it to me. No apology.. nothing to show my bag had been sitting there for the last 8 minutes while I waited and she as the "greeter" forgot to check on it. So overall I would say the one star given is generous for the service, and food I received from this store.
