I was visiting Austin and thought to check out some of the local cafes. Cafe Nena'i was close to where we were staying. The cafe itself was small and quaint. A good spot to dine-in if you're not in a rush. It wasn't busy when we got there (a Wednesday, brunch hours). I ordered a Cafe Con Leche, Ham & Cheese Empanada, Chicken/Beef Empanada and Medialuna De Nutella. The Cafe Con Leche (which I was charged for two -_-) was pretty good. Their empanadas were alright, as well as the medialuna. Nothing spectacular, so it was a bit overpriced for the quality of the pastries, in my eyes. Overall, Cafe Nena'i was OK. read more

They're doing a really good job of contactless ordering and pick-up. I ordered their signature latte, and I really liked it. It was definitely a more unique milk latte than anything I've tried at other Austin coffee shops before. I actually prefer foamy/milky coffee more, so it was perfect for me. Wonderful little cafe with some delicious desserts and empanadas! The empanadas are stuffed to the brim with delicious filling! I found this place last minute when making our regular trek to Austin. Pricey but I feel worth it. My husband grew up in Paraguay and he was just so happy to get something Paraguayan in Texas. We normally have to wait until we visit New York for I Love Paraguay restaurant. This is so special for him that he gobbled up a chipa followed by an empanada con jamon y queso in less than 5 minutes. I loved the spinach y queso empanada. These are FAT empanadas. I agree with a lot of fellow Yelpers that this cafe is delightful, charming, and adorable. The woman who runs it is beyond lovely and welcoming. I also learned a lot about Argentinian pastries and delights, which made my trip to this Eastside establishment definitely worth it. The coffee that came with the cocido con leche was stiff, tasty, and did the trick, but the pastry left a little to be desired. I admit, I am not well-versed enough in South American cuisine to know if the dryer consistency of this pastry is supposed to be that way. If it is, then it was spot on. I suppose you moisten it up and give it a little more flavor by dipping it in the coffee? The other savory pastries, however, like the empanadas were delicious. The ham and cheese and the spinach and cheese were flaky and filled with all the goodies. First time I went, the lady forgot some items off my order, I did not notice until I got home and opened my bag. I know people make mistakes so I stopped by a second time, on this occasion the lady was on her phone and kept me waiting to order a few minutes even though I was the only customer in the cafe (and had clearly seen me). Dropped off hubby to the airport and on my way home, swung by Cafe Nena'i finally! I was greeted by the owner, Gladys, who knew who I was from my Instagram account! She's gorgeous, super sweet, and so friendly! I made the tough decision to get the carne and pollo empanadas lol. I wanted to try the jamon y queso one but will go back for that! She was out of almond milk so no coffee concoctions for me this time around. I'll have to make another drive-by! The empanadas were the best I've had. The outside was soft, brown and perfect. The chicken was shredded to perfection and so flavorful. The beef, egg and olive went so well together - really authentic Argentina-style. She had just squeezed some fresh peach juice, so I got one of those and an Alfajor to-go! The vibes are Miami-like and the outside seating area is bright, white and inviting! Sometime in between last week and today, they started doing contactless service, meaning no one can go inside the facility. It's a shame because the place is super cute and lots of people make it their morning to come here. I had the cortidado which is a double espresso (it was the real deal, strong as all hell- and never order that again!). The Nutella filled croissant may be tiny, but it is delicious! That hint of salt on the top of the croissant is a nice touch! This place is often the best option for coffee nearby! Many locals frequent. Next time, I'll try an empanada with chimichurri sauce, when they're back in stock! read more

Online ordering- super confusing. Once ordered, the confirmation said my order would be ready in 2 days. So we called and it was ready in 2 minutes. Came around noon on a Saturday and most of the food was gone, but what was available did not disappoint! The croissant was perfectly flakey, crunchy, and soft. The arepa was so delicious, didn't need to add any sauce it was hot and flavorful. Enjoyed the beef empanada, but wish we could've tried the others. The bollo had cajeta inside and it was a great pairing with the bread. Will definitely be going back to try more! read more

The empanadas seem to always be sold out so make sure you get your order in early! I have never tried something here that I did not love! Adorable little cafe that specializes in South American/Cuban pastries and coffee. A cortadito is typically my go to Cuban coffee but this time I decided to venture out and try something new. I got the cocido which was a Yerba mate drink infused with milk. So glad I got this! The owner explained to me that Yerba mate comes from a plant and is caffeinated but contains a lower amount than coffee. She also said it's culturally significant in South American counties and she has many positive memories sharing it with her family. She seemed so passionate about her cafe you could tell that every drink was made from the bottom of her heart. If you like matcha/green tea, I would highly suggest trying the cocido! You also have the option of making it cold if you prefer it that way. read more

I can't say enough good things about Cafe Nena'i. It's really cute and cozy inside. What really blew me away, though, is the quality of coffee and food the mother-and-daughter team are serving. The cortadito coffee (Cuban style) has a balanced kick of both caffeine and sugar...it kicks American lattés in the butt. The carne (beef) empanada that I tried was crazy good. Huge size, juicy inside, perfect touch of olives to offset the beef. This is a cafe I would recommend you go out of your way to try...even if you don't live near the Montopolis area. Simply put, Cafe Nena'i rocks. The mother and daughter team behind it are whipping up some tasty Argentinian pastries, both of the sweet and savory variety while also including some of the best coffee in Austin, period. All this with great service in a welcoming and incredibly clean environment to enjoy. We tried 4 of their sweet pastries (Alfajor, Bollo, Cherry Chocolate Brownie, and Pastafrola) plus 1 carne empanada (which was loaded with seasoned beef, olives and hardboiled egg). Each were great and had their own thing going on in terms of flavors and textures. Then there was their coffee. I had their Colada which is essentially espresso with sugar included. It's some of the best tasting espresso I've had in Austin, and I don't even like sugar in my espresso. It was layered and complex, it was bitter yet sweet at the same time and goes down so smoothly. I also tasted their Cafecito which was excellent as well. We loved this place and cannot wait to return, repeatedly. read more

Solid cortadito- silky, smooth and nice strong beans. Definitely ask for less milk and sugar if you normally take your coffee black. Empanada de pollo was tastier with each bite but started off a bit dry - once you hit the olives everything starts getting a little more smiley. Mini Nutella croissants were biscuit-y and delicious. Honey cake was outstanding - moist and fluffy with a slight molasses sweetness. pastry on the guayaba tart was light and airy - must try. Have been obsessed with cortaditos recently, so on my trip to Austin, decided to stop by this cafe! The front staff (owner?) was very kind and knowledgeable. My best friend ordered a Yerba matte cold drink and the staffer was explaining how it is made and where the plant comes from. I am used to having a cortadito with evaporated milk, but this cafe did not have evaporated milk. I ordered it how it was off the menu, and it was amazing! If you want to try something different from LatinAmerica this is a place you must visit! For breakfast or "merienda" try the tangerine cake or "torta de miel" but do it with a cup of hot"Cocido" and milk, is simple delicious and all of them are part of a traditional Paraguayan food. If you're more into the salty food try the "empanadas"... I chose one of each flavor... all of them super good, my favorite one was ham&cheese :p and if you still have some room for a desert try the Rice with Milk with some cinnamon on top, just the perfect combination! This cafe is a sweet/simple spot. The coffee and refreshment options are standard. By any means, I do not mean any negativity. I ordered an Americano and this is how I judge a coffee shop. The beverage was very smooth and gave the same level of strength as a drip coffee. The atmosphere is very laid back with Spanish classics playing in the background (which I love!). There are 2 concerns I have with this cafe. The first is, there is limited room and even if you were meeting a friend here, the whole entire room can hear your conversation. The second is, no WiFi connection. This is a huge read flag for me because this disrupts the customer's experience. I saw several professionals walk in, order coffee and set up their work space. Then when they asked for the WiFi password, they were told they do not offer WiFi and the barista suggest that they use their cell phone's service hot spot. I most likely would not return. Such a bummer since I live 2 blocks away and I work from home. read more

Near the Sonic? Then I see a small mini mall where Cafe Nena'i is located. It is a small coffeehouse with limited seating. They do have outside seating also. They do have empanadas and pastries in stock. I had the Jamon y Queso (ham and cheese) and the Carne Empanadas which was served with a small tangy type sauce which was good. Along with it being small coffeehouse, it also has a small coffee menu. Don't expect any ice blended drinks. Cafe Nena'i could have easily become one of those average coffee houses. It's being unique with it's own kind of pastries and coffee. It's not the type of place where you should have a meal but instead it's a place where you can have a small meal on a empanada and have a coffee. read more

Much amaze food taste. How is everything so good here. You know stuff is good when they run out of ingredients due to too many customers. Their assorted baked goods, empanadas, etc are all home made! Update: had the empandas again recently and they were a bit dry. Price to size ratio for the empandas is not worth it. The filling is also lacking in some areas. Would only come here if I was in the area just to get a cortado. Cafe Nena'i is such a cute little cafe. If I lived on the east side I would be here everyday! I tried their beef empanada, chicken empanada, and the ham and cheese empanada. The beef and chicken were delicious, I wished they filled it up just a bit more. The ham and cheese was good but I preferred the beef and chicken. The daughter recommended a coffee for me that was an absolute little punch of joy. It was in a little cup that had a perfect amount of sweetness and milk, it was hot. I don't do hot drinks at all but this one I will. I will go back and get another asap so I can tell you the name. It's that good. My caffeine tolerance is high (I mean high, greater than 400mg high) but this one gave me a jilt and I could nap after. And normally I could. It's my new Miami Vice. I know the particular sweet & savory pastries and empanadas here are classically Argentinian, but if you do a cortadito shot followed by a con leche, you too will be dancing in the aisles. Like SoBe under a silvery moon. Okay, maybe that's just me. Cafe Nena'i is brand new, it's a totally sweet mother & daughter team, and after explaining all their food to me, I just pointed to a half-dozen things and said I'll get the rest on my next visit. The alfajor cookie is pretty rich & outstanding, and I'm looking forward to trying the Mixto Caliente. Did I mention the cortadito is a rather intense caffeine jolt? They bake at night, they're closed on Mondays, and it's just one of those businesses you want to do well. It's also exactly why I think Yelp exists. When I hesitated & pointed this out, she insisted that "the system operates this way" and then added "we apply out own tax"...on top of the tax? By charging me for a more expensive item? She insisted that I pay for a more expensive item, while receiving the original item that I ordered. We had some pretty uncomfortable back and forth, and I ended up overpaying. I realize that times are tough, but this was pretty off putting. Recommend avoiding, or being vigilant when you order! read more
