Perfect brunch spot in Southpark area. You definitely feel like you are in Europe with the atmosphere and music. We ordered beignets for an appetizer which were amazing. They are small so I recommend ordering 2 per person. The brioche French toast was great and a big portion. Cafe Monte is such a great brunch and dinner spot! Definitely a popular spot so you need to make a reservation, never expect to walk in! Even with a reservation you may have to wait a bit. We started off with the Margarite Pizza to share. We thought the tomatoes would be diced or at least smaller. Unfortunately our table turned out to be tomato haters...oops. If you ate it along with the crust you wouldn't get that strong tomato taste though. We all got different entrees so I tried a bit of each. The noodles and vinaigrette in the thai chicken salad were good but since I don't like salad I can't say much. Duck confit didn't have enough flavor for me. It was pretty bland but if you think hard enough then it tastes like duck. My friend's blackened swordfish was overcooked. I cannot cook and I can tell you that fish was overcooked. The flavors for it were not bad though. The seasonal risotto had zucchini and our server recommended it with blackened shrimp. I may get it if I come back. Last of all, I got the beef short rib bourguignonne. Honestly, it look like a pile of potatoes but once I got to the beef, it melted in my mouth. I'm grateful there was only one duck confit left so I got the beef short rib instead. The carrots could've been a bit softer but as I'm eating the leftovers now, it's better. Anyway, their brunch is better in my opinion and our server Antonio S was attentive and funny. The beignets were awesome!! On 02.23.20 I had the pleasure to have brunch at the Cafe Monte with a group of friends. We arrived at 2:40 ish pm, with no reservation, waited about 20minutes to be seated, which was totally fine and understandable. All our dishes were cooked to perfection, no complaints, and my medium rare petit steak was absolutely delicious, which left me wanting more. 5/5 star experience. So this Sat. 03.07.20, my husband decided to take me there again for my birthday celebration, this time for a super late lunch at around 4:00pm. Our server was the best we have seen in a really long time, constantly checking up on us, asking if we needed anything, making jokes. They served us a starter bread and butter, which was delicious, fresh, and warm on the inside. That was when we realized we were actually hungry, and got excited for our main courses. Oddly enough, there were about 6 other groups in the restaurant, meaning it was pretty empty, yet my uncooked steak and my husband's swordfish were taking way too long to come out. When it finally came out, the swordfish was delicious, both hubby and I enjoyed it quite a bit. My NY steak however was actually WELL DONE instead of MEDIUM RARE as I ordered it. As our server did her round check, I expressed my disappointment, and though I am not one to complain or to ask for my food to be taken back, I was honest and she made me feel comfortable enough to do so. To my surprise, she backed me up by saying that I had indeed ordered a completely opposite temperature, and that she would bring a new one right out. We waited more than enough time, yet again, which unfortunately made hubby's dish gradually cold. As my dish was brought out, I was relieved to see it hadn't been re-plated, my green beans and fries were fresh and warm. But my steak was still WELL DONE, which was very disappointing. At that point I wasn't going to wait another 20 minutes just to have the same dull, no taste, stern steak, filled with fibers that made it hard to cut, served to me again. It not only a waste of time but a waste of steak. Once again, I expressed my concerns to our server, who proceeded to apologize and said she would call her manager, despite us telling her that there was no need and it was okay. I was originally going to score the experience this time around a 1/5 stars, but my server and the manager were absolutely incredible, and the service on both ends was impeccable. Even offering us an apology desert, which always goes a long way, and was absolutely delicious. The kitchen however, needs to learn with the Sunday brunch chef, the basics of cooking a medium rare steak, which honestly shouldn't be much to ask from an empty tasked kitchen. We do plan on returning and giving it yet another try, but we're guessing our luck will be sticking to the busy Sunday brunches, instead of a late lunch/early dinners. read more

We ate here on a Wednesday for lunch. They were pretty crowded but we got seated without a reservation. The french martini was delicious. Baked brie was very good. The tuna nicoise was also very good...my husband added salmon. We did have an issue...the salmon was overcooked but the kitchen replaced it with a well prepared fillet. I have been wanting to try this place for a while but we usually eat before 9am (when they open). Finally the timeline worked out & here we are. Meh. I would like to say my disappointment stems from over expectations based on what I had read but I feel I have a few valid complaints. First-the music. I understand they are striving for a french bistro & perhaps it's because I have never been to France-maybe they do blare already loud, slightly annoying french music. Regardless, it was too loud. I say this because it was just opening as we got here & fairly quiet, now, as we are getting ready to leave the restaurant is busier & louder-this makes the loudness of the music make more sense-but why not start lower & gradually increase? I love corn chowder & that was the soup du jour. It was served immediately & lukewarm which was disappointing. It did have some crabmeat in it so that was a nice addition but it was also under seasoned (and a step above cold). Under seasoned was also an issue with the skillet potatoes that come as a side. They were light & crunchy (it was almost more like a potato "fritter") but the inside was bland. Which leads me to my main dish-the crab cake benedict. The hollandaise was sparse & half of the benedict had overcooked egg (see pic). The other side was a little better. Needed a little seasoning but was better than the soup/potatoes. My boyfriend enjoyed the soup but felt it was not hot enough-he was ok with seasoning. He did agree the potatoes were under seasoned. He got the fruit de la mer omelette & said it was good, seasoned well & cooked well. The service was good-he checked in the appropriate amount of time & kept our coffee filled. He was a little aggressive in the beginning with getting the order started & maybe I say this because we had never been there & really needed to look & make decisions & he was wanting us to order quickly (I understood why after seeing how busy it was when we left). He was polite & asked us how everything was several times. I don't know why but I am never ballsy enough to complain-it's not something I am comfortable verbalizing face to face (I almost always take the path of least resistance). I usually just don't return. I feel like I would give them another try because although my experience was disappointing it wasn't necessarily bad & they have a lobster special on Fridays & beef wellington special on Saturdays! We love cafe monte. Brought my adventurous eating 9 year old for his birthday (his choice!). Very busy on a Thur night but sat quickly and our server Jennifer was prompt to get our drink orders and that service continued the whole night. Bread was delish. Kale salad with bacon and champagne dressing was crisp and yummy. My son got the beef bourguignon and it was amazing!!! So tender and so much flavor. Had this place bookmarked for awhile and really looked forward to giving it a try, however it's more of a one and done. Arrived about 12p and it was completely full except for outdoor seating, but NBD since it was a beautiful day! But after being seated, that's when it started to slide downhill. The service was SLOW. Just to get the menu took about 15 min from being seated. The menu is extensive to say the least, everything from beignets to a hamburger; I'm not so sure if it's a French cafe, or a French themed cafe, but I digress. After placing our order, we endured a painfully long wait again...we didn't order anything to complicated..just a Quiche Lorraine, French onion soup and beignets, but it took 40 min. The food was actually pretty good, but the extreme wait, after waiting to get the menu was just too much and left a bad taste when we finally received the bill. If the scenery was a bit better than a parking lot next to While Foods it might have been more interesting, but that just wasn't the case. read more

I was doing some training nearby and on multiple occasions I had Cafe Monte for lunch. I always took my order to go so I can't speak for the service at the restaurant but each time I picked up my order the employees were friendly and I liked the look of the restaurant. Their website is very easy to order food from. Everything I have ordered has been good but my most favorite is the Croque Monsieur. They have wonderful desserts as well so even if you are full after your meal make sure to take one home with you, you won't regret it. read more

Server - Jose Food was excellent. Service wasn't good. Food came out and the dishes from our appetizer and soups weren't cleared. We had to pile them on the table. When our entrees arrived we all grabbed and held our dirty dishes and had to ASK the food runners to take them. I felt like we were punished for not ordering alcohol on a Wednesday. We ordered water since it was a work night. Our carafe kept emptying and sitting there. At one point I almost got up and walked to the hostess stand to request a refill. We didn't see Jose much. Perhaps he could have brought a second one? Jose didn't like that we didn't jump at his suggestion for putine. My nephew is diabetic. Fries are not something he can eat. Jose looked annoyed that we ordered just one appetizer for the four of us. This was not my first time here. I brought my niece, nephew and his wife for the first time. My nephew and his wife just moved here. What we ordered was all good - Bruschetta with asparagus French onion soup Duck confit Pizza with Brussels sprouts Beef bourguignon Trout almandine Perhaps Jose was having a bad night. I've had enough good experiences here that I won't stop going. The night was disappointing as I was excited to expose these youngsters to great food. The interior is fun yet elegant. When we were there, they had live music playing in a corner and a pastry case on the opposite side. It made the wait for our table a bit more bearable! We were seated in the busy restaurant at a small patio (looking) table and were immediately served our drinks. Our server was attentive and friendly. We started with some pretty standard appetizers. My friend ordered a salad, and it was dressed sparsely and was pretty basic. I tried the French Onion Soup. The cheese was delicious, but the broth itself was lacking in body and flavor. We both agreed we'd try something a little more adventurous next time. We sampled the Chicken and Mushroom Crepes for our entrée. This was really my friend's dish, but she let me have a taste. They were rich and creamy and I kicked myself all night for not getting them. I know it looks a mess, and the picture isn't that clear, but it was the best thing we had all night. For my dish, I chose the special for Friday night: Broiled Lobster with fries and asparagus. It was fine, but the waiter really hyped it up and you know...you've had Lobster once, you've had it a million times. It was delicious, but nothing special. Plus, kinda messy and hard to handle with grace. Next time, crepes for me. After staring at the pastry case while waiting on our reservation, we decided we had to have dessert. My friend chose the chocolate éclair. The photo is blurry, but I'm sure you can see the cracks in the chocolate on top. That was an indicator we should have heeded. It was dry and uneventful. Very disappointing for a French bakery. Vanilla fruit tart was good, but it still had that "made ahead and sat around" flavor to me. Café Monte has been on my list to visit, finally I made it! It is a very cute location, lots of parking!! I decided to sit outside but beware the bugs get worse at night! I had to go inside . They where eating my food more than I was lol You get a freshly baked bread roll, still warm I order the herb basted salmon. It was all you can eat mussels and fries on Monday night , but fish sounded lighter . No regrets! The fish was amazing !!! Cook to perfection, and a little crispy on the top. A few weeks ago two friends and I visited Cafe Monte again after a long time away. It was a delight! Our server, Samantha, was very knowledgeable and friendly, and the food was beautiful and delicious. We started by sharing the short rib poutine, followed by the basil pistou penne with chicken, and 2 crepes--- one with shrimp and artichokes and the other with lobster and crabmeat. If I could give this half stars I'd give this 3.5 stars. The food was good while the service was mediocre. We stood at the front for a bit waiting to see a hostess then got seated in a nice half booth half chair table toward the back. We got a glass of wine and a beer to drink and our server was not overly friendly. The French onion soup we got to start was wonderful. For dinner I got the mussels which came with these delicious shoe string style fries. My husband got the duck confit pizza and we enjoyed it both that night and the next day for lunch. Unfortunately this place didn't live up to its recommendations from neighborhood friends. Firstly this place is super cute and charming. The music is cute, the location is great. However, the food and service is very poor. The food isnt terrible but I'd rather eat breakfast at an ihop to put it simply. The charcuterie plate thing was gross. The cheese was cheap and the crackers tasted stale. The meat tasted off. The cappuccinos were watered down and tasteless. The worst part of it all was the service. Our waitress was very unprofessional. When we first met her she didn't even say hi. She just put 4 tall glasses of water on the table (we had 2 small children) I asked for cups with lids for them and asked for bottled water. She then said nothing and proceeded to dump all the waters into a flower pot beside us.... that was weird to me as if she was annoyed. We requested to move because we were seated on the patio in the front by all the cars and customers walking in and out. When we moved tables we over heard our server complaining to another server about us moving and the other server replied "it's ok they will probably tip you 20%". She brought us our food and we had only 1 set of silver ware so we had to get up and get it ourself. We tried to catch the attention of another server walking by and he ignored us. All around just a bad experience. It's unfortunate cause the restaurant is adorable and has potential to be really good but it's not being executed very well. The owner or manager should probably be involved more in what's going on, nobody checked on us. For Southpark I'd expect better. read more

We stopped by for takeout pastries as we thought they were good. We bought 1 or 2 of everything for about $50 but thought all would taste great. The $2.50 macaroons were imported from France but were extremely sweet unlike European pastries. No go. The chocolate eclair's were sweet but had a bitter taste and weren't acceptable. The almond pastries had chocolate inside and tasted off like a cooler oder. Other varieties we tasted were not to par and had that refrigerator oder taste. The closest thing to tasty were the lemon pies but they were extremely sweet. I definitely will not make this error again!!! read more

Had dinner at Cafe Monte a few nights ago, for the first time in a while. Same outstanding service, same delicious food! This place never seems to have a bad night. We have learned to reserve ahead because the wait can be long if you just walk in, but the beauty of the place is the intimate, artsy environment and the feeling that you've suddenly been whisked from Charlotte and have stepped into Paris. We had the mussels, the chicken and mushroom crepe and the beef short rib dinner. The bread was also hot, fresh and served with the freshest butter. It was 1/2 price wine night, so we all enjoyed a couple of glasses of Sonoma-Cutrer...nice! If you come for brunch, order the beignets and the ham and cheese crepes. I love the waitstaff in black and white attire and the elegance and attentiveness of the staff in general. Charlotte, you can't beat this. Fancy local's best kept secret! délicieux. read more

OMG I like to give a restaurant a second chance . In this case Cafe Monte Fails again horribly. So bad that I went next to burger King to get that God awful french onion soup taste out of my mouth. Great lunch place - Not really the REAL French place in Charlotte but great lunch options. Love the Croque Monsuir and the French Onion Soup. Crepes are a great go to and the Escargot are wonderful. Some of the servers are wonderful and some need a little adjustment in the attitude business. All in all it is a good Lunch option ! read more
