This is my first time here. My first impression is that the place is spotless - a great sign. The woman who took our order at the counter is very pleasant and patient. I ordered the 1 steak kabob with a side of rice pilaf and hummus. The steak arrived hot, juicy and nicely seasoned. The tzatziki sauce and hummus are both delicious as well. We were in the area and decided to stop by for lunch. I am so happy we chose this restaurant because the food was excellent! The kabob meats were tender and moist. All of the sides were very well made. The burger was juicy and packed with flavor. Not a single item on our orders was lacking in flavor. Service was great and restaurant was clean. Okay, I have family in Greece and have spent a great deal of time there. Most places in so cal say "Greek" food but it's actually Turkish or middle eastern. Yes, there is a lot of Turkish influence in Greek food, but there is still a difference. This is the closest thing to Greek food I have found in so cal so far. The gyros are awesome and they they make great horiatiki which is what Greek salad is really like in Greece. There's a lot of stereotypical Greek/Turkish fusion stuff that Americans like. And you won't find moussaka or saganaki or kleftiko. But if you want souvlaki or gyro with an authentic Greek flavor base, go here. It's clear the owner is familiar with authentic GREEK food and that's hard to find. They also made "Mediterranean fries" which is their own invention but heavenly. It's fries with (I think) paprika and lemon juice on them. Soooo goooood. Love love love this place. Will be back again soon. read more

Returned to dine at the restaurant for Valentine dinner. Gave wife option of eating at our fav sushi spot or flemings steak dinner. The food was so good she couldn't wait to dine here again. Had the same plates kabobs very good even better when u eat them freshly made. Tried mediterranean fries, loved the spicy vinegar flavor. Also tried steak wrap not a fan of the steak meat was too fatty for my taste. Had a good seasoning though. This place must be popular during lunch, its pretty empty during dinner. read more

We ordered the falafels, tycoon sandwich (Greek burger on grilled sourdough) and beef souvlaki plate (diced beef cubes with onion and bell peppers) they have made to order Fresh Greek food with reasonable prices. This gem needs to replace the Mediterranean restaurant in downtown Claremont which is horrible. I'm surprised it isn't more busy during lunch because the food really is delicious. I got chicken kabobs with hummus, fattoush salad, and tzatziki as sides. First of all, the tzatziki is SO yummy! I wish the hummus didn't have such a thick consistency but it still tastes good especially with the oil in the middle. I don't know how they make their salad dressing but it was great. This place is actually really good! The portions are a bit small (especially the meat ratio) and the salads are a limp and sad, but other than that I'd have given them four stars for taste. Will be back if I'm ever in the area because the tart dressing on that salad was perfect! Gyro left a little to be desired, but still tasted good and fresh. read more

Horrible service.... was so excited to come here due to reviews. Waste of a drive... place only had 2 customers already eating, and we were not even greeted. (We waited 5mins )This young man just keep passing by didn't say anything to us. Then I noticed this girl and she saw us and just kept talking to the lady that was on the grill. First visit to this cute little cafe. I ordered the lamb gyro entree (10.95). Entrees come with 2 sides of choice and warm pita. Fantastic plating and food was delicious. The food here was great! I really enjoyed Theo's Salad, and the baba ghanoush is really delicious too. The pita bread is super soft and warm, and pairs well with any of the entrees or sides. They are really generous with their portions of rice, too! The only issue I had is that they fudged up our order, so I ended up having to eat a side salad off of my sister's plate because they had apparently closed the kitchen by that time. The cashier was apologetic, and treated us really well after that. From the outside of this restaurant, you'd never be able to tell that they serve great mediterranean food here. The girl at the register named Nevaeh(got her name off the receipt) has no idea how to take orders and has an attitude and unwelcoming as you arrive . She will tell you what is included with the order and then tell you it's not included I had to figure out what was included and what wasn't so that i wouldn't order extra of anything... do i work there or you hun? .... ummm you have no idea what your doing . She couldn't even round up my change with the help of the register. At the time of my order there wasn't anyone else and yet took like 25 minutes for me to finally get my food. I have had lunch and dinner at Cafe Moderno several times and have never been disappointed. The food is marvelous! My wife has been there with friends so often that she's almost embarrassed to show up again. This place is a hidden gem in a strip mall near the freeway. Soo good! I was pleasantly surprised. When we walked in there was no one there. We ordered and got our food quickly. The cashier is also the server, she's a pretty girl and absolutely delightful. I ordered a turkey panini and lentil soup. OmG... the lentil soup, will be in my dreams for years to come. Seriously- I could live on that lentil soup happily for the rest of my life. Usually Mediterranean places include hummus and pita bread with your plates but here if you wanted hummus it was considered ONE of your two sides. This was the biggest shortfall for me, otherwise I probably would have rated it 5 stars because the food was delicious. I chose hummus and vegetables, my husband chose cesar salad and hummus. Not wanting to cook on a Sunday afternoon, thought we'd give this place a shot, since so many high reviews. Unfortunately high reviews can be achieved by a very friendly staff and clean environment. We had the lamb special (sides of Baba Ghanoush & Hummus) and a gyro with mediterranean fries. To go please. To start off, when we got home and started to unpack the food, it was a little surprising to see just how small a dish the lamb special was. More like a lamb side dish and a couple small containers of sauce to go with it (Don't forget the pita bread, it was there too). Taste was decent of the lamb dish, but lacking in substance for sure. Onto the staple food of Mediterranean people the world over. Wa, wa, wa, for sure. The lamb was very thin sliced and used sparingly. Two maybe three slices of a lamb beef mix, smothered in oil drenched shredded lettuce, couple tomatoe pieces and a pickle or two. Where's the MEAT? All of this for $23 :/ Think we'll drive up central a mile more and go to Everest for their diner Mediterranean food from now on. read more
