I think this place has great food but it was a bit frustrating when they charged me a different amount than displayed on the menu. It was only a dollar difference but when I brought it up I was told that the menu was wrong and the amount I paid was correct. I ordered the steak kabob plate with three kabobs. Located in Montclair, just north of the 10 fwy and east of the mall, behind El Pollo Loco, Chipotle, and Mc Donald's. Menu: chicken and beef souvlaki or kebobs are delicious. Very tasty, flavorful, and well prepared- not overdone or dry at all. Salads are refreshing and rice is flavorful, soft and fluffy. Their falafel are fresh and home made Staff: friendly and courteous. I forgot the name of the chef/owner, but he's a really nice guy. He came out the check on our food and chatted with us. Uggghh .... HAIR! So this place looked great, clean, and staff was friendly. But I got a hair in my food; they replaced my dish that had hair in it and apologized. It happens. On top of the hair in my food, I still continued to eat the combo kabob plate i ordered, and the beef and chicken tasted the same. Not sure if that's because they are prepared, seasoned, and cooked identical - but i would prefer my chicken not to taste like beef, and also the other way around. I don't like writing negative reviews, but this was a letdown. Greek food in LA kinda sucks and I was hoping Moderno would break the spell. First, somehow the gyro came loaded with lettuce. Anyone who's ever had a real gyro knows there's not lettuce on the thing. What is this, middle America?? Second the mediterranean fries with lemon juice totally harshed the crunchy fry vibe making them soggy and limp. Bad concept and bad on me for trying something new. The employee I mentioned this too didn't do a da*n thing to try to earn my business by offering another order of real fries or remaking my sandwich. I really want family owned places like this to succeed, but I can't say they bent over backwards to make sure I'll come back. So I probably won't. Great food, love their chicken kabob plate with the rice and Mediterranean fries. However, if you wanna order takeout, make sure you do it *at least* an hour before they close. I've tried ordering takeout from here 40 minutes before they were scheduled to close and they've flat out refused to take my order even though it was still 40 minutes until closing (literally a chicken plate and a wrap, so a simple order). Another time it was an hour before closing and I walk up and the employees are locking up and leaving for the night (& yes I checked that I had the correct closing time). This place has decent, healthy food. I wasn't particularly blown away flavor-wise, but I was looking for something relatively healthy and I needed to make myself eat some veggies. I got the steak kabob plate with grilled vegetables and a greek salad.The kabob came with 4 pieces of steak. I personally could have eaten more, but I was reasonably satisfied. The Greek salad was enjoyable. It came with crumbled blue cheese and a good helping of olives. Grilled veggies contained yellow bell peppers, squash, zucchini. Not my favorite selection of veggies...but it was okay. Pita bread was soft and warm, but would have been better if I had some sauce to go along with it. The service was friendly. This was our first time here. The restaurant was newly renovated and very clean. We saw a steady group of customers eating here and several others with "to go" orders. We ordered the chicken kabob plate and a gyro. The kabob plate was very well served and we got it with the Greek salad and hummus. All of it was very delicious! I feel Ripped off. I ordered the chicken kabob plate. I got ONE burnt chicken kabob over rice and charged me extra for hummus & pita. Total $19 (with baklava) What a complete rip off. This was beyond expensive. Not even the local place I go to in LA charges me extra $ for hummus/pitta. And their plates are reasonable price(under $9) with 3 kabobs, not one! My mom got the chicken entree with potatoes and Greek side salad, she said it was really good. I had the falafel wrap with a Greek side Salad which was delicious! Just popped in to fill my gyro fix so I got my order to go. I ordered a gyro and an order of fries. The fries weren't crispy, more squishy which some people like so to each their own. The seasoning on the fries was good although it was a bit salty. The gyro was over $6 and terribly disappointing. In the photo of the gyro here on yelp you can see the meat all fanned out nicely within the pita, which is what I got but thats ALL the meat you get. About 4-5 very thin slices that are around the outside of the pita while the middle is stuffed with all the veggies. There was more pita than meat in this gyro so I'll probably stick to the drive thru at Legends if I want a beefier portion. All the prices were pretty high too, for a soda, gyro and fries it was nearly $12, which sadly my meal wasn't worth. read more

My family and I wanted to try something new so I found this place. We came in, a couple in front of us was ordering. When they finished we waited patiently. The girl taking the orders never acknowledged us. After about five minutes I said we were ready to order. The girl behind the counter was continuing to type away at the computer and said "just another minute". We waited ten minutes without her acknowledging us again. She never said there was some sort of technical error you are welcome to have a seat while we fix it, nothing. No customer service what so ever. Hello Yelpers, I was curious to try out a Mediterranean food place so me and my Daughter (Mexicanos) gave this place a try, I happen to have my car at the Firestone tire shop next door, we were there about 11am order a steak pita and a 1 kebab plate (comes with 2 sides rice and humus) and 1 coffee almost 22.00 bucks,,,I feel the same as one other Yelper who posted that food was good but portions were small,,I definitely feel the same,,,wish I could grade each field individually...need to mention that my pita took about 22 minutes to come out and the kebab took over 30 min to come, my Daughter had left she was on her 30 min lunch break, the lady gave us some free pastries (forgot what they were called) to make up for the long time,,,she also mention that fact that the grill was cold and that someone had call out, I have work in the restaurant business, and have family who owns restaurants, (you have to be there ready when you open) and not have this happen...I worked in restaurants where the kitchen work group would get there 30-60 early to get some things ready, at least the grill hot... p.s I really would encourage them to put up some picture menus with item tittles,,,not all of us know what to order.. So we were going down the 10 freeway... Hungry. I start searching Yelp for food in the area and came across this place. The ratings looked pretty good and the pictures were decent. So we pull into the parking lot and did the "drive by" to check it out before we committed. The hubby was not so excited because the place was totally empty. (I mean, what GOOD place is empty?!). But it had an A rating and looked clean. So we parked and committed. I got the chicken wrap and salad. The kids got chicken nuggets (though they looked a little overcooked, they ate them). My hubby got the steak wrap with chicken soup. The wrap was... Ok. It has dill pickles in it which was a combo I didn't really like. But the salad was delicious and so were their fries. Disclaimer: I am also not great at discerning good Mediterranean food, but ended up here because I had a powerful urge to go back to La Authentica Michoana one more time. The food was about 3.5, but the extra half goes to the server. If I lived in the area and wanted a Mediterranean takeout, I'd come back, but I wouldn't drop by just to have this. Location: located in a large plaza on Central near El Pollo Loco/Petco, there is a small but brightly lit sign in the back as you pull in past El Pollo Loco. I came for dinner following my last night of the calbar 2016, mostly because I wanted to wait out the traffic back to LA. The restaurant style is what I think you'd call "fast casual." The inside is brightly lit, tables are clean, decor is simple and clean as well. You order what you want at the front, take a number, and they bring to you. Service: I'm used to fast casual places bringing your food, settling it down, and never coming back. Plus points for the server checking in on me a few times, even though I must have looked brooding and crazy given that I had a runny nose and spilled coffee down my jacket. She was also pretty good at answering questions for my not well versed in Mediterranean food self. Food: I ended up with a lamb gyro combo. There's probably a good 8-12 pieces of lamb, maybe more, and you get two sides. The lamb was very tender and flavorful, with no need for the yogurt sauce. The food came altogether on an enormous plate, and the sides were pretty much regular sized portions instead of sides. I loved the Theo Greek Salad. Whatever they put in the dressing works perfectly with the crispy lettuce, slight saltiness of the olives, and crunchy cucumbers. In hindsight, I probably should have gotten a full salad with added protein. I'm mixed on the mediterranean fries. On the one hand the dressing was savory and unique (paprika/vinegar or lemon?), but on the other hand they were overall cold. :(....or are the fries more like mashed potatoes in American food and thus not necessarily crispy? Made it to the register at 8:26 and we were told that we could order, but wouldn't be allowed to eat in the restaurant because they were closing in a half an hour.. really?? Wanted to burst out of my normal eating spots and try something new. I came in open minded, but in the end I'm just not satisfied. Service was ok, there was about a 10 minute wait. But it is the food quality is what left me wanting more, I ordered a grilled chicken wrap. The chicken itself was flavorless, but if it was properly marinated, it was overcooked which deprived it of any good flavors. The wrap as a whole was a soggy mess and the juice ruined the pita bread. Also my of french fries were overcooked you could hear them crunching from across the room. In conclusion, I think the prices are too high considering what I was given it terms of both quality and quantity. Was craving Mediterranean food and came across this spot on yelp. Read the reviews and looked at the pictures. I ended up ordering the 3 chicken kabobs with the 2 sides. I chose hummus and the modernist salad. I thought that hummus should come with the meal automatically but you have to choose it as a side. I also ordered the steak gyro just incase the 3 kabobs didn't fill us up. The pita bread tastes homemade and is so soft and delicious. They only gave me 1 pita bread for my 3 kabobs which was not enough. I had to go back in and order 2 more pitas and an extra side if hummus. That came out to 5.25. My husband and I are big eaters. The chicken kabobs were tasty very well marinated. I spent 30 bucks for everything. Glad I found this spot! The salad was yummy. I felt like I had my fill and the food didn't weigh us down. So this is officially my new favorite restaurant. I can't say enough about it... The food, the service, the prices! All out of this world! I always get the Greek salad with a chicken screwer and I get it with ranch dressing (which doesn't taste like a typical ranch dressing, it's obviously made in house). It's so good that I'll drive from wherever I am to go there. Everything's super fresh and so so yummy! And the service is great. The girl who I usually see working always remembers what I order and I don't even need to tell her.
