It has been FOREVER since I last ate here but SO GLAD I remembered a great place to grab breakfast while I was in around Rock this am with my boyfriend. Just like I remembered it- a familiar face the second I walked in their doors- same great manager welcomed me at the door. A comfy corner clean booth to enjoy my meal that I knew was going to be great and huge and yummy! A platter of goodness- I ordered the very unhealthy choose of a cheeseburger omelette- I know sounds awful but NOT AWFUL!! SO GOOD!! A efficient and friendly server who filled my every need- love that.....oh good service it is a lost art I swear some days but she knew it- thank you Racheal!! Arrived at 2:20 pm for what we hoped would be a calm, quiet lunch. Instead we were subjected to the ear-splitting, high-pitched sound of the coffee grinder for almost 20 minutes. The wait staff shrugged, "explaining" the sound was "more noticeable" because there were few customers. The counter staff was similarly discounting. "We have to grind all the coffee for tomorrow before we leave," she said defiantly. They close at 9 pm today. Perhaps they could grind tomorrow's coffee as they are closing up. Altogether a very unpleasant customer experience. I'd bet the sounds exceeds the maximum decibels allowed in public venues in Texas. How do they get away with such a poor business practice? This is a really solid place to get brunch. Be warned, this place isn't huge and is pretty popular. Both times my family has come we've had to wait about 30 minutes. I reckon if you come later on, ~1:30PM it's not quite as busy. The restaurant itself has a really nice homey-vibe with a setup that makes me think of diners that you see in the movies. They've got a series of booth and table setups with barstool seating next to the coffee. Additionally, all the servers (all very friendly) are dressed comfortably which really adds to the aesthetic. My favorite thing about this place, however, is their abundance of drink choices. They have all sorts of cool coffee combinations both hot and cold which will let you flip flop depending on the indecisive Texas weather. I have so far tried the whole lotta love latte and the caramel con panna (both warm). Of the two, I prefer the caramel con panna because it's not as aggressively flavored or sweet but the whole lotta love is still delicious. I'd recommend a medium unless you're feeling like drinking a huge bunch of coffee because the large is actually quite a lot. As for food, I am a fan of the ultimate migas. The portioning is massive and the dish is quite flavorful- and the corn chips added in are a nice touch. Looking forward to my next visit already. read more

I have been to this restaurant a number of times since finding our about it through the RoundRock Facebook page. The coffee is always delicious and the omelette are very yummy. I have yet to try a sandwich as I am always in the mood for a breakfast dish. This morning I had Santa's crepes and they were fantastic! You get your choice of type of eggs and bacon to go with them. I have been going to this Cafe Java for years upon years, since I think middle school and I'm coming up on my 10 year high school reunion... (please hold while I cry about feeling old...) and it is a solid place to come to for sure. Their hash browns are the best thing on the menu, I don't think anyone should come here and not get some! They are never undercooked, and the flavor is on point every single time: you can tell they're made fresh. I do agree with most that their breakfast is what stands out, but my husband gets the nachos and burgers and likes them a lot too. I love their breakfast tacos; you can put anything you want on them basically, which I'm a huge fan of (read: MUSHROOMS), and is the main reason I'll always come here. Their coffee is decent; sometimes it's really good but other times it can fall short, depending on who is making the drinks that day. I love the Butterbeer (probably because I'm a nerd), the black americano, and their regular drip in particular, but they have a wide selection to choose from. Their service can be really hit or miss, though. Of course wait times can be insane, but it's to be expected and that doesn't bother me really. What does is the kitchen messes up quite a lot since I order unconventionally and it's kind of annoying to have to send back food on a frequent basis. The wait staff are usually awesome and it's hardly their fault, so I can't blame them! I've had some bad experiences with pickup too, where they say it'll be ready in 15 minutes and the reality is more like 30-45 (and it's not that the wait is that long, I wouldn't mind at all as long as they were upfront from the beginning) Overall, I think the high rating here is deserved, and if you can come here on a slower time I would definitely recommend. read more

We went here once and we will never go back. Cafe Java is wonderful, one of my favorite spots. But I'll never go to this location again. I go to the one on metric. The reason I avoid here is because the one time we went, we waited for almost an hour before getting seated and then almost 30 minutes before a waiter ever made it to our table for the first time. I went here with a friend of mine for breakfast and it was a little crowded but they turn the tables over quickly and we got seated after only a five minute wait or so. The Ultimate Migas were delicious. We each had a bowl of grits that were cooked well, (yes, you can mess up grits), and their hashbrowns were good. The server did not come back as often as I would have liked but that was a minor as we did not need very much after we were served. Probably came out late because the waitress was not attentive to our table to notice our food was not out or we were ready for refills. Here's our experience: My husband and I sat down for breakfast, ordered coffee then food once the coffee came. The table next to us was just finishing their food (same waitress). That same table was cleaned, a new couple sat down, ordered their drinks, then food & their food came out before ours. We waited 30min for our food to be cooked. Honestly, I'm not exaggerating. We tried to ask other employees for drink refills, and no one passed our table. I had to walk to the breakfast bar counter & asked a buss boy for a water. When we saw the table that ordered after us received their food before us, we grabbed the waitress attention before she walked away from their table & she acted shocked. (Tip: If you walk around your section you'll see who has food & who doesn't.) We asked what happened & if the food was just sitting back their. She told us the kitchen was slow. ****Please don't lie to us. Just be honest. How could the kitchen be slow if the person next to us sat down after us & was served/eating before us. Truly disappointed. **** We didn't eat even half the plate of food, it was cold. Told the waitress again and she said, "Would you like me to take it back?" No empathy. No Apologies. Then when we checked out to pay the bill, the lady checking us asked how everything was. We said "Terrible." She replied, "Great!" to which my husband replied, "Are you even listening to me?" "Oh, sorry, it's just so busy in here." He went on to explain the experience & again no empathy or apologies. But without acknowledging the experience she did make sure to ask, "Would you like to leave a tip?" SMH If you want good service without excuses. DO NOT GO HERE WHEN IT'S BUSY. After living in Round Rock for 12 years, we finally decided to try this place after reading an article about them in Community Impact. We heard the name before, but always thought it was just another fancy shop with overpriced coffee. Oh how silly we were... I love the variety of drinks. My mom and I are not big fans of coffee, and my dad likes decaf drinks only. We all found something we liked here. My dad got a decaf coffee with Irish cream syrup and whipped cream. He loved it. My favorites are the steamers, steamed milk with whipped cream and your choice of flavored syrup. And you can get more than one shot to make various flavor combinations. With around 15 types of syrups, it's going to take me a long time to try all the options. That's OK, because we will be going back many many times. The food is wonderful. They have breakfast all day, which is great when we need a quick weeknight dinner. Most plates come with hash browns and bread choice. The hash browns are nice and crispy, and the omelets are full of flavor. I love that they don't cram the omelet full of cheese. Of course there is some cheese, but not enough to mask the flavor of the other ingredients. And they grill their biscuits, so they're crunchy and don't crumble easily. Mom got the nachos, and she was pretty impressed. The queso was obviously homemade, and they don't skimp on avocado slices--most places only give you 1 or 2, she took half the plate home and still had 3 slices left! Oh yes, you will want to take some food home because the portions are absolutely huge. They also have desserts. We have only tried the muffins, which are definitely made from scratch. My favorite is the red velvet muffin; I'm glad they don't cover it in gooey runny cream cheese icing, instead they put a large chunk of soft cream cheese inside the muffin. Not as messy and easier to take to go. The best part is we can actually afford to eat here often. For 3 meals, including our 3 special drinks, it was less than $50. As prices climb seemingly everywhere else, it's refreshing to find a place for an affordable, satisfying meal. My family will definitely be going back to this little place whenever we need a quick, tasty dinner. We haven't gone during breakfast time, and probably won't since we don't like waiting over an hour for a table!
