I was very fortunate to have been invited for dinner with family. Not an extremely large restaurant and definitely a place where reservations would be a very good idea, especially after seeing the completely full dining room. I do like the fact you bring your own wine for dinner; it is actually a more enjoyable way to dine and allowed me to select from my own personal wine list, rather than scour someone else's selection of wines. Just as is customary in any authentic Italian restaurant, every table comes with a very large fresh breadbasket, they do however offer a bruschetta on the starter menu as well. Equally impressive was the small Ceasar salad included with the entree I ordered, something that any quality restaurant should include with an entree rather than overcharging as an ala carte menu item. The lasagna here has now become the best I have had yet. I was highly impressed with the light, yet extremely flavorful red sauce. There was nothing heavy about this lasagna, obviously house made with the best ingredients, it was absolutely phenomenal. There is only one way to end a perfect Italian dinner, espresso and tiramisu! Cafe Italia - chicken piccata - Italian Near Me - Grapevine, Texas

We have been a patron of Cafe Italia for 15 years. There use to be a line out the door, and the food and service were top notch. Tonight there were empty tables at 7:30, and it was cleared out by 8:15, all for good reason. The food was just okay, but the service was horrible. The waiter clearly wanted us in and out. He demanded our orders within minutes of our being seated, we had to ask about specials, our salads were delivered two minutes after our order was placed, and entrees a few minutes later. He literally threw the parmesan cheese across the table AT us instead of on our entree, I was covered in it. Desserts were also thrown in front of us. Our entire dining experience was less than an hour, salads, entree, desserts, pay, out the door. The message was loud and clear, eat and get out. Strange how all it takes is one bad dining experience for all of us at our table to say "Wow, has this place gone downhill fast!" With so many new great places popping up, no reason to come back. Sorry to see this old favorite in such bad condition. read more

This is the Grapevine treasure. Amazing food at good prices. BYOB, so your evening dining is so much affordable. My favorite is Baslamic Chicken. I highly recommend the house dressing on your salad. Fantastic Italian spot. I'd recommend reserving a table because they get very busy during the dinner rush. We were served a giant loaf of soft bread and butter to share. I ordered the tortellini michaelangelo, and it was so good! The pasta was fresh and steaming the entire time I was eating it. The tortellinis were tender and the creamy vodka sauce paired perfectly with the pasta. For dessert, we shared the tiramisu and limoncello cake. Both were amazing, but the limoncello took the cake for me. Highly recommend Cafe Italia for some great Italian food. read more

Cozy but bustling BYOB Italian restaurant near downtown Grapevine. Finding a parking spot can be a pain, but worth the effort. Mozzarella caprese is a nice start to the meal - firm tomato slices topped with cheese, capers and balsamic. Fettuccine Alfredo, topped with grilled slices of seasoned chicken, delighted with creamy al dente deliciousness. Also enjoyed the manicotti with fresh-tasting marinara sauce. Rotating specials can sometimes be worth a try. Did I mention this place is BYOB? On one visit, the table next to us had wheeled in a cooler full of chilled wine and were clearly enjoying themselves . When in Cafe Italia, do as the regulars do and bring a nice bottle of Chianti! Crème brulée for dessert, while completely excessive and unnecessary, was fantastic. They have another location down the road if this one's too busy. read more

Very salty fare, bread not memorable, not eaten, excellent tiramisu. Salad, so so. Be sure to ask for parmesan, red peppers if take-out.

Ordered take out and was not impressed; first time trying this restaurant; it seemed they paid very little attention/interest on the take out orders . Ordered Chicken Parmesan dinner; it came with 2 thin sliced chicken breast, very small slice of cheese on each ; less that a cup of spaghetti; marinara sauce on the side as requested- enough for at least 3 cups of pasta . 3 bread rolls that were refrigerated cold; salad: with romaine lettuce and 1 sliced of tomato. Never going back to Café Italia in Grapevine On Friday March 15, 2024, we experienced terrible service at the Café Italia in Grapevine on Northwest Highway. We have been going to Café Italia for probably 20 year, but we are never going back. We had a reservation, and we were immediately seated. Our waiter was a 50ish guy who had a very heavy Romanian or Albanian accent, definitely not Italian. He wore black glasses, his English was very broken, and he was hard of hearing. I provide this description so hopefully the owner knows who I am referring to, since the waiter did not introduce himself. From the moment we sat down, our waiter repeatedly came to our table to get our order. We were there with an out-of-town guest, so we were enjoying the BYOB wine the ladies had brought. After several attempts by this waiter to get our order during the first 15 minutes we were seated, I asked the ladies if they felt our waiter was rushing us. Both women emphatically agreed he was rushing us. After dinner we paid our check, and as the ladies were finishing their BYOB wine this waiter came to the table and told us "I need this table, you need to go. I have people waiting." Really? The only people waiting was one couple with a child! We were appalled at what this waiter said to us. As a result, we all agreed we are never going back to Café Italia in Grapevine. There are too many other restaurants in the area that do not treat their long-term customers like crap. read more

This restaurant ranks a solid 4 out of 5. The food is fresh, I can't testify to how "authentic" it is ... tastes pretty much the same as every other decent Italian place I've gone to. The service is very friendly and on the "entertaining" side. Faithful, long time customers are treated differently - and are accommodated better. But new customers are treated professionally. Highlights: the table bread is phenomenal. Pastas are made, and cooked perfectly al dente. Protein dishes tend towards overdone (like everyone else). The salads are fresh, but smallish. Portion sizes are adequate - not generous. Their tiramisu and spumoni are superior to any other Italian restaurant in the DFW area. Needs addressing: 1) this is a BYOB establishment - I've never visited the restaurant and not seen this come as a surprise and/or disappointment to someone at a nearby table, 2) They have rammed a LOT of tables into a medium sized room, you cannot help but feel as though neighboring tables are joined to your party - you will unavoidably hear conversations around you and they will hear you. Summary - Cafe Italia won't "blow anyone away", but it won't disappoint anyone either. Everything they serve is consistently good, modestly sized and "reasonably" priced. An unpretentious little restaurant that never disappoints. Friendly servers that treat you like family and wonderful food. Their Chicken dishes are some of the best I ever had. Today I enjoyed (an understatement) the Chicken Carciofo. Was that a touch of lemon in the wine sauce? Oh my! I can still taste it. I might add that the red sauce is spot on as well. We have dined at the Ira E. Woods Cafe Italia location since it's inception in its former location. It is our go to restaurant. I think we might have been to this location once before. But if so it was so many years ago that I done gone an fergot. But as we wanted to ride the very, totally awesome TxRail train to G'vine for a lunch, this store was a shorter walk from the train station. But it was still a mile. But then, maybe we walked the pasta side off. Or not. Anywho, I am happy to report to you people that the food between these two restaurants, at least in terms of our meal today, is a mirror image from one to the other. From the house salad dressing, to the Caesar salad, to the bread, to the marinara sauce, to the veal and eggplant dishes... identical cooking. I had the Vitello al Rossini. Ten or eleven bucks, three slices of veal the size of a small hamburguesa patty. In other words, substantial. Crazy. After a small Caesar salad with extra anchovies ($2 up-charge) and some of the pasta and marinara side I could only finish one piece. Dinner tonight! The Secretary of the Interior had the eggplant parmesan. It filled the whole plate! Eight bucks. Crazy. Dinner tonight! The ambiance here is not as pleasant during the day as the other store due to the harsh light coming thru the street facing windows, but I'm sure at night it is quite romantic. For what that's worth. We were out the door for like $22 plus gratuity. And we had not only lunch but dinner with the take-home. And yeah, I lugged a bottle of wine in my back-pack from the train station for the mile walk to the restaurant through sleet and snow and all that other crap that our generation had to walk through back in the day to get to school or wherever. I stopped in here on a Wednesday night for dinner with a companion. We were seated and then waited approximately 15 minutes to have someone take our food order or bring out bread. For an appetizer, we ordered the fried mozzarella. Frozen mozzarella sticks. We each ordered a pasta dish. I got the Lobster Ravioli. Out comes 4-5 small raviolis swimming in sauce. For over 20 bucks? Yikes. The salads that came with it were sad. The bread came with little plastic butter packets. Also, the menus that we were given were more expensive than prices I saw online. I don't know if this is a supply thing or a holiday thing but be aware. Save your money. The only things this place has going for it are the Sopranos artwork and it's BYOB. read more

No kids menu and no pizza. They do "half" portions for half price, but charge a split fee of $3 so not quite family friendly.

I really do like their food but my only thing I'm not a fan of is how paper thin they make their chicken and veal. Everything else is wonderful. We just celebrated my son's 28th birthday there tonight. Love that it is BYOB! read more

I have been coming to Cafe Italia off and on for about five years - this used to be one of my favorite places for Italian food. Over the years, though, it appears as if the food has slipped downhill some while the prices keep escalating. Yes, the place is BYOB, but the food has been lackluster the last two visits, and the service has deteriorated some. The last time I came here, I asked for some of their housemade dipping oil. This oil is so good! Olive oil with a healthy infusion of herbs and spices - when I asked for some, the waiter immediately told me, "No!" and then told me they don't make it anymore. Maybe it was my expression at his abruptness, but then he says he will go back and see if they have any, then immediately returns with some. I had the linguine with clam sauce - for the price there could have been more linguine, more sauce, and more clams. There were just a few shelled clams in the bowl, while the rest in the sauce were canned clams. Maybe it is because I make a mean clam sauce at home that I wasn't dazzled. It is too bad that this place has suffered some - you used to come in and everyone was dressed up. Now it seems a lot of the people coming in look like they dressed for a trip to Sonic. It's just ok here for me - it is decent but for the price it isn't great. read more

The food was excellent. Reminded me of Venice, Italy. Sauces were authentic. I had the Chicken Sunrise (not sure if that's a main dish or a specialty since I went on a special day). The bread they had for appetizers was freshly baked and soooo fluffy. Loved how each entree came with a small portion of pasta (so Euro, loved it). So savory and mouth watering each bite. The staff was superb! Very accommodating and not hovering. The space was very intimate and tight seated. It does get very loud when the entire establishment is packed full. Though i think that it is quiet and intimate if there is fewer people during the weekdays and or evenings. Tables were large. Had two specific dining rooms, one large main room near blackout curtain windows and another more enclosed and private setting. They do take reservations and walk-ins. read more

We went here for Mother's Day eve and it was packed. We had reservations for 6 and brought our own wine, the table was promptly available, they were so busy, all wearing masks and it was weird because some patrons weren't when arriving. Dinner was great. We had the chicken sunrise, chicken piccata, chicken Jerusalem, lobster ravioli, caprese salad appetizer, calamari, then followed by some cappuccino. All wonderful. Their bread on the table is amazing, but I ate too much and honestly couldn't finish my food. :) We will definitely go again. Service was great, cost is reasonable and nice ambiance. I came here with my family for my dad's birthday. The food and service was great. To start with we had the mozzarella cheese sticks which were one of the best I had. Very simple but the marinara sauce and the crunchiness were great. The calamari was also delicious. I had the lobster ravioli which I would recommend but make sure you add fresh parmesan and red crushed pepper. My family had a wide variety of items which they all said were tasty from veal Jerusalem, the seafood dish, shrimp scampi, vegetarian pasta (dad on lent) and my nieces' spaghetti and meatballs.
