We've driven past Cafe Italia so many times and were always curious about it, so we finally decided to stop in for a late Saturday lunch. If you are looking for a charming, "no-frills" spot for classic Italian-American comfort food, this is a very dependable option. The absolute highlight of our visit was the staff. The people here couldn't have been nicer! They were welcoming and extremely accommodating, especially when it came to customizing my order. Food: * House Salads: We started with the house salads featuring their homemade tomato vinaigrette. It was unique--it tasted like they might incorporate some of their tomato sauce into the dressing base. It was okay, though perhaps an acquired taste if you prefer a sharper vinaigrette. * Eggplant Parm & Custom Pasta: I ordered the Eggplant Parm and asked to swap the side pasta for angel hair with vodka sauce. They were happy to do it for a small upcharge. The eggplant itself was quite good! My only critique is that the sauce was very chunky (I like a smoother sauce) and the portion of it was a bit overwhelming, but that might just be a personal preference. * Fettuccine Alfredo: My husband went with the classic Alfredo. He described it as a "solid 7/10"--nothing was wrong with it at all, just a standard, reliable version of the dish that satisfied the craving. Went here upon recommendations from locals. First they have 2 locations so just be forewarned. We had DELICIOUS pasta! I had the tortellini michelangelo and hubby had the lasagna. We went for a belated Valentines Dinner Date. Such a cute family restaurant, all the food is homemade. We started with a simple house salad with tomato sauce dressing which I've never had before and a loaf of freshly baked bread. Then I got the eggplant parmesan and we also orders veal piccata. Both dishes were delicious. We got a side of spaghetti with marinara sauce on the side. The service was exceptional. We didn't get to try the tiramisu but we will have to go again to try it! We came here for a private birthday celebration and had the room right when you walk in and go straight. We were in our own section, but it was not a private room, meaning there was no door and opening in the side where the rest of the restaurant's seating area was. That said, it felt secluded enough. We had 21 in our party and the room holds 24, maybe more. It was a limited menu since we had a big group, but there was plenty of selection. They start you with complimentary bread that is just average. We had the bruschetta and stuff mushrooms for an appetizer, and they were decent. For my entree, I had the beef medallions and they were amazing!! A decent size portion and cooked perfectly. The sauce was on point with its boldness and kick. Ok.. their sign says Fine Italian food. It is not My husband and I ordered two different entrees. Chicken Carcifio and Chicken turn off your phone Jerusalem. They both tasted exactly the same. One was a wine sauce, One with a cream sauce with Sherry. I couldn't taste the sherry at all. Their house salad is just Romaine lettuce. Greens with some shaved carrots. This place is premium priced but very low value for the dollar. We had mozzarella sticks for an appetizer, the lemon caper chicken, fettuccini Alfredo with chicken, and a cannoli for dessert. Each of our main courses came with a salad. We chose the house dressing, which was a tomato vinaigrette. The mozzarella sticks were good, 7 out of 10. The salad was just some lettuce with a slice of tomato. The vinaigrette tasted like ketchup, 2 out of 10. The main courses were decent, I'd rate those a 6 out of 10. My main course came with a side of spaghetti and marinara sauce. The sauce had a really strong garlic flavor, and I couldn't eat it. We had a cannoli for desert, I'd give that an 8 out of 10. The service was good, no complaints there. Overall, the dark restaurant and mediocre food made me feel like I was in a restaurant out of Kitchen Nightmares. The food was just ok, but the service was decent. I was googling BYOB spots when this popped up. We don't have these types of establishments in Albuquerque. The stuffed mushrooms and escargot were fantastic. Our server ( from Montenegro) recommended the homemade salad dressing. Sweet, tomato-ey and delicious. All 3 entrees, chicken parm, chicken roltini and chicken piccata were top notch. Very casual BYOB dining room located close to Main Street in Grapevine. Off street parking is available in their adjacent small lot. The interior is dark and tables are laid out in two rooms separated by a hip wall. Nothing fancy. Several small toddlers on this visit made the space quite loud. For this review I had the Calamari appetizer and the lasagna. Not to be mistaken for real crusty Italian bread, a basket comes first with a decent Italian-ish loaf of sliced bread and portion controlled flats of butter. 3 stars. The calamari was good. It was a portion of all rings, no tentacles, suitable for two. It was accompanied by a solid red sauce for dipping. 4 stars. Between the calamari and the entree service came a complimentary house salad. It was a good enough, basic lettuce and tomato presentation , but absolutely drowning in a tasty house Italian dressing. 3 stars, but could be 4 if there was less dressing. Finally, the lasagna was just ok. Kinda flat, not a towering version, blanketed in what appeared to be slices of melted American white cheese or perhaps square provolone. Several pasta layers with ground meat, red sauce and cheese made for a tasty, but uninspired dish. 3 stars. This was our 3rd visit here and it's starting to become a little family fav. We really enjoy the quaint small dining room and the service here has been consistently good with a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Their warm fresh bread is incredible and I like that their meals come with side salad (highly recommend the house dressing). In this visit, two of us had the calamari as a starter (not pictured) but thoroughly enjoyed. Our main courses were the chicken fettuccine Alfredo which my husband gets every time and has announced as his favorite Alfredo ever, a lobster ravioli that had my son raving about the sauce, the tortellini Michelangelo (also another rave review on their vodka sauce) and I ordered the chicken parm. I asked if the side pasta could be made without sauce and our waitress was very accommodating on my food request with oil and parm to dress it up. My only "complaint" is that the chicken is pounded too thin for the price. The sauce, breading and cheese are great- just need a little bit thicker piece of chicken. The food here was phenomenal and I recommend to all! I went here late on a Friday night around 8:30PM and got seated right away, which was perfect especially since they immediately brought out bread. For a meal, I got the rigatoni a la vodka and the sauce was just incredible and I recommend and definitely need to come back next time I'm in the area just to get it again. For dessert, I got their chocolate mouse cake to share with my friend and it was also just amazing and I was very thankful to have a bit leftover the next day. Truly just the best food!! read more

Cafe Italia is a Grapevine institution so I had to try it out. Came with a friend for lunch and I thought the food for the price was excellent. I know it is an odd thing to point out but their bread is great for the bread service. If you get a side of Vodka Sauce to dip, you may just be all set for your full meal! Pasta was cooked perfectly and the Eggplant Park was delicious. So why only 4 stars? I came back for dinner on another night and pricing was considerably higher. No issues there, but at the higher pricing I feel there are better options. Stop into this amazing lunch spot! If you love it you may well feel dinner is a great value too. read more
