Brunch date with my partner. Best pork I've ever had. I really enjoyed the pasta that came with too. I had fried oysters and scallop risotto. Scallops were tender and cooked perfectly. Cute hidden spot and perfect for a weekend meal. There's a cute hallway seating area perfect for dinner and reminds me of small mom and pop restaurants in Europe. Service was great. Would love to go again!

I decided to check this place out due to the good reviews. Uni pasta- my favorite dish! It's so creamy and the nori and wasabi add some nice dimensions to the dish. I would definitely get this again. The portion is actually pretty good too Scallop risotto- risotto was creamy and flavorful. Scallops were cooked well. They should put a disclaimer that you may only get 2 pieces instead of 3 as listed on the menu. When I asked the staff about it, the chef said it's because the pieces given are the same as 3 which was a bit weird since the pieces didn't look that big compared to the photos on Yelp. This dish also comes with a salad. Chicken katsu curry- I ordered it medium, but honestly the curry is on the sweeter side with no heat at all. You also get raisins which makes the curry even sweeter. For $26, it's not a good price point for this type of dish. You can get this dish for much cheaper at other establishments. I would pass on this dish. Staff was nice and interior is clean and a bit cramped. My meal was over $100 for the 3 items which I normally wouldn't mind if the quality offsets portions given. Be prepared to spend lots if you want to get full! Also, keep in mind they charge an NCA fee if you don't pay cash. This place is a solid 3.5 for me.
Well, well, well... look who finally crawled back after a few years. And guess what? Nothing's changed--not the decor, not the crowd (still empty at 6:30 on a Saturday--yikes), and definitely not the 'meh' factor. The scallop risotto? Still a banger. Must-order for sure. Dessert? Yep, still solid. But everything else? Let's just say the shrimp tempura salad, beef tataki, tuna tartare, beef tongue stew, and mentai spaghetti formed a perfect little symphony of average. No 'wow,' no fireworks, just... food that exists. Servers were friendly, though! Probably because they had plenty of time to chat with the only two tables in the whole dang dining room. So yeah. Same same but different? Nah. Just same same.
The scallop risotto at Cafe Hiro is one of those dishes you keep thinking about long after the last bite. The scallops were perfectly seared...tender, buttery, and just the right amount of caramelized on the outside paired with a creamy risotto that was rich without feeling heavy. Every bite felt balanced and intentional, with flavors that complemented each other instead of competing. I have not had risotto like this elsewhere. That's why I keep coming back. Service is very good which I like. The ambiance feels like a cozy cafe. And the watermelon margarita? Easily one of the most refreshing drinks I've had in a while. Light, slightly sweet, and incredibly crisp it had that perfect fresh watermelon taste without being overly sugary. It paired so well with the richness of the risotto and made the whole meal feel elevated yet effortless. Overall, such a standout combo comforting, refreshing, and definitely worth going back for.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone I know. Worst bowl of spaghetti I have EVER had in my life. I ordered takeaway for mentaiko spaghetti. The woman inside made me wait outside for more than 30 minutes and couldn't have been ruder and more aggressive about it. The actual spaghetti itself wasn't worth the wait, the hostile and racist attitude to put up with, or the $30 price tag. My college dining hall had better tasting over-boiled spaghetti than that. The Mentaiko spaghetti was extremely overboiled and had the wrong flavors. It was soggy, sweet, bland, and downright DISGUSTING. It was coated in sweet milk like sauce and had a bitter aftertaste to it. The noodles had no salt and it was truly the most disgusting thing I have eaten in a very long time. The lack of customer service made the whole experience all that more vile. I highly recommend no one to get any sort of food from there. How someone can charge so much money for so little food with such foul quality is mind boggling to me. I have no idea how this place even stays in business. There are so many restaurants in the vicinity with far better quality of service and food. I suggest going to Unico Tokyo Pasta, Pasta e Allegro, Akane Chaya, just to name a few. Seriously. Anywhere but Cafe Hiro.
Yoooooooooooooooooooooo! I've been coming here maybe 4-5 times a year--not super often, but enough to know how good it usually is. Unfortunately, my last two visits have been pretty mediocre compared to how I remember it. One thing I noticed was that the Japanese chef who's usually in the kitchen wasn't there. The staff mentioned he was on vacation, so maybe that explains why the food didn't hit the same. Service was also really slow. I did see a "help wanted" sign outside, so I get that they might be understaffed--but it still took about 30 minutes just to place our order, and another 35 minutes for the food to come out. We started with the calamari, but it came out without marinara or tartar sauce. When I asked, the server said he had to check if they even had any--which was kind of surprising. They did end up having it, but only after I asked. I ordered my usual--kurobuta pork cutlet with curry--which is normally cooked perfectly, but this time it was overcooked and not tender like it usually is. My mom and sister got the seafood uni pasta, and they also said it didn't taste the same as before. I'm hoping this was just an off couple of visits. I'll probably come back when the main chef is back and give it another shot.
Just came here for dinner with the fam. Cute restaurant with friendly staff. Wasn't busy but of course it was a weekday! Me and family ordered family style so we got to try a few dishes. My sister in-law ordered beef tongue stew and I have to say that the meat was VERY tender! Everything was tasty. Some of the main entrees come with salad which is a plus. I got the karaage curry in mild but definitely could've done more spice. The only thing missing was the ground red spices! But I would definitely try this place again.
Had a lovely four course meal on Valentine's Day. I really liked the ambiance in here, it gives a homely hole in the wall vibe compared to Ini (which has similar food). Uni Pasta was amazing as was their bread pudding. However I was not a fan of the service. I made a reservation and asked to be sit in one of the EMPTY tables available for guests. Whoever the waitress with the blonde balayage was completely gave me attitude and coldly told me that we were getting the booth. I didn't know that a customer making a request was grounds for irritation. If you wonder why you didn't get a tip, there's your answer.
It's been over a decade since I discovered Cafe Hiro and they are as popular as ever. I highly recommend making a reservation as there are scarce availability for walk-ins. I came with my boyfriend at opening time and they definitely asked if we had a reservation. During our time there, we saw each table fill up slowly. I noticed some enhancements since my last visit like the cushions on the seats Nice touch. They had a menu for 2 but we weren't hungry enough for that amount of food, so we decided to order by the dish. My boyfriend had the Seafood Pasta ($28) and I had the Sea Urchin "Uni" Pasta ($28). My uni pasta was as delicious as I remembered it. It was well coated and you can see clumps of uni in the pasta. My boyfriend's seafood pasta had a generous amount of seafood. There was shrimp, scallop, calamari, mussels, clams, and mushrooms. Nice and chunky. The seafood felt like a large portion since the protein it comes with were more hearty whereas the uni pasta is a light coating, but it is sufficient for my appetite. Looking forward to coming back to try more of their menu. Maybe we need to recruit some friends because they have an omakase that requires 4 people due to the large portion size. I really want to try their risotto.
This is my favorite Japanese Italian spot! You honestly can't go wrong with any dish that they have to offer. I've tried such a variety - Peking pork, mushroom salad, uni pasta, osso bucco, hamburg curry, risotto, panna cotta, and croissant bread pudding. Each dish was so good. If I had to choose some favorites to recommend, it would be the uni pasta, risotto and croissant bread pudding. Service is always good. All the servers are super nice and interior really gives off cute & homey vibes. Perfect spot for a date or catching up with friends.
I really enjoyed the food at this interesting little Japanese/italian fusion restaurant. We arrived without a reservation, but they found a table for us at one of the tables that's in the hallway. It is not at all like a Japanese restaurant, but more like an Italian themed room. There are clouds and Vines painted on the ceiling and a few pieces of art. It is very cozy and intimate. There is a framed copy of the article about this restaurant from the Los Angeles Times. I'm not going to lie, though--where we were sitting I could see that the base of the wall near the could use a really good cleaning. I tried not to let it bother me, but it kind of did. I kept reminding myself of the "pass" health department certificate posted in the window. No worry, though, because the food more than made up for it. There is a Zagat sticker in the window from a past year. Our server was really good and very sweet. She came to check on us often, which is always a good thing. We weren't terribly hungry, so we ordered light. We ordered: *Beef Tataki *Ahi Tartar *Karaage Curry *Chicken Salad The food was delicious, especially the Tataki. Yummmmm!! The portions were generous, too. This place could definitely be on repeat for us. It does look like it's very popular, as reservations are recommended and the place was full when we left. Honestly, it would easily have been 5 stars for me if the walls down by the floors had a good scrub.
Came here with a reservation. Pretty tiny restaurant but the food here tastes so delicious and unique! It's not often that you find an Asian fusion place that does it right. My favorite was the seared tuna dish. The sauce is very umami and light. Highly recommend. And it also comes with rice !! The chicken katsu was also perfectly crispy and juicy inside and the curry had a nice sweet kick at the end, I think from apples in the sauce possibly? I'd say I'd try other options than the seafood spaghetti tho. The flavors were a bit straightforward and it tasted like seafood + tomato with not much else. They give a lot of protein with that though which was nice! I'd love to come back again and try more of their menu. It's a lovely restaurant and everyone here is super nice.

One of the best uni (sea urchin) pastas you will find. They provide shredded nori (seaweed) and a small side of wasabi to really bring out the flavors. Also, if you are in the mood for Japanese style hamburger (hamburg), this is the place. Juicy, thick, and savory. Overall experience was wonderful Would come again with friends! read more

Location / Giant plaza with a bunch of parking. The cafe itself is tight and feels really small. I felt really claustrophobic just trying to wiggle myself through the tables to get to mine. The decorations are nice and add a nice homey touch. More casual feel though so don't worry about needing to dress up unless ya feeling fancy haha. Food / I heard many great reviews about the risotto and wanted to try it myself. I've never had risotto so this is my first time! I got the miso marinated salmon risotto and my sister got the chicken cutlet curry. We came during lunch and it was super busy! They do have a lunch menu so look into that. They first served us a salad and the dressing was infused with wasabi - not a big fan of it since I'm not a huge wasabi fans but some may like it. Good starter portion. As for the risotto, it came out piping hot. The portion is huge and the risotto tasted amazing! Not too salty, creamy, and you can taste the cheesey goodness. The salmon was cooked perfectly and had a nice sweet miso taste. I enjoyed my meal very much! My sister enjoyed her chicken cutlet curry and devoured it fast. Service / A little slow but hey, they were also busy during a lunch rush. Can forgive them trying to house down and attend everyone. Overall, great Japanese place. The risotto is definitely a cool Italian Japanese fusion dish and I would recommend others to give it a try :) read more
I picked this place after seeing that they had a nice outdoor dining space. I was also excited to try their fusion Japanese-Italian menu! It was easy to make a reservation via Yelp and was quickly seated upon arrival. After ordering drinks, I ordered the following: Sauteed Mushroom Salad: I was intrigued by the varied mushrooms and was of course convinced by three words " white truffle oil." It was a refreshing and tasty salad, but just a note for ya'll that it tasted more like yuzu than truffle oil. Japanese Eggplant & Mushroom Spaghettini: Keeping with the mushroom theme, I ordered this clean and simple pasta which came in a delicious garlic soy sauce. Service was great and the outdoor seating was perfect on this hot summer night! Would come back to try more dishes. read more
Am I missing something or is this a legend of days gone by? Cafe Hiro was one of my first bookmarks on Yelp over 10 years ago and my how the food landscape has changed since then. It's taken me this long to actually eat here because to me, Cypress might as well be up in The Valley. You see, for South Central Orange County locals like myself, cities like Yorba Linda, La Habra, Los Alamitos, and Cypress are like... the nether regions of OC. Frankly, up until recently, I never spent much time up in any these places. But now that I've actually eaten here what's the verdict? Well... I can see how this place was the bee's knees back in the mid-2000s. A Japanese Italian repertoire with Uni Pasta, Risotto with Seared Hokkaido Scallops, Seared Albacore Tuna, Chinese Chicken Salad... the menu reads like a greatest hits of California cooking back in 2007! But now? Now I can't help but think the menu doesn't feel classic as much as it feels dated and staid. I asked for recommendations from the waitress and she echoed what I've heard from friends over the years: Beef Tataki for an appetizer and Sea Urchin Pasta for the entree. The Beef Tataki ($12) was good, lightly seared slices of rare steak over a bed of sliced red onion, topped with fried garlic and served with a slice of lemon, all accompanied by a trio of accoutrements: citrus ponzu sauce, green onion, daikon radish. The Uni Spaghetti ($24) was decent, the pasta al dente and you can taste the sea urchin in the cream sauce. I liked the dollop of wasabi on top; mixing it in with the rest of the dish helped bring out the flavors better. And that's really all I got to say about it... the food here is good and decent, but really a far cry from the fanfare I've heard about Cafe Hiro for years. For 2 "must order" dishes, they were fine but ultimately underwhelming. There was nothing special about the Beef Tataki that you can't find at other restaurants and I was actually disappointed with the Uni Pasta. With places like Spoon House in Gardena, Miyabi Uni and Maruhide Uni Club in Torrance, Marugame Monzo in Little Tokyo, and all the EMC restaurants all over Southern California, I'm expecting a lot more sea urchin and distinctive flavors. Cafe Hiro's is just ok if you're looking to scratch some uni itch, but that's a far cry from what I would expect given the reputation that precedes this restaurant, especially for $24 a plate. $46 for an appetizer and a pasta... am I missing something? The servers are nice and the food came quick, but I can't see myself coming back here unless I made some critical error in ordering. Given that the 2 dishes I picked were supposed to be standouts, I'm reticent to give this place another try. read more

Come here during weekday lunch and it's cheaper! I came back here for my birthday and it was a little confusing since it seems Chef Hiro no longer cooks. As a result, there have been a lot of times where the food's great and other times ok. I've come here dozens of times already so I know what their food used to be like. Service has also changed for the worse. They hired new waitresses that aren't as welcoming and attentive. One of them spilled something on our purse... Uni Pasta wit extra uni tasted great and seemed like it didn't change. Peking Pork- This time the pork and buns were on the drier side but ended up ok. Breaded Hamburg Menchi / with Curry sauce - This is my favorite and this time the sauce and breaded beef turned out good but the curry sauce was almost room temperature. I didn't mind since the breaded beef was pretty hot and balanced it out. Overall, the past 3-4 times I've been back, quality hasn't been the same as it used to be. I keep coming back hoping quality was what it used to be only to be disappointed. This used to be my favorite restaurant and now I can't say it is. read more
This is an unassuming and cozy restaurant. It is tuck away inside a random plaza. My family have been coming here for years. I didn't want to write a review as it is quit a small restaurant and it is always pack. I didn't want everyone to overcrowd my eatery:) Chef Ohiwa is also the owner. He was classically trained in Japan and in France. He has worked at Michelin restaurants such as Matsuhisa and Café del Rey. You definitely see in his menu, how his training has inspired him to these amazing dishes on the menu. They are known for their Sea/ Urchin "uni" spaghetti, Creamy Crab Cake, Pork Culet Curry, Roasted Chilean Sea Bass with Asparagus and their Panna Cotta. I personally love their Spicy Garlic Spaghetti with Chicken, Arrabiata and Scallops with mushroom Risotto The price is ridiculous for this quality of food. The food here are flavorful and rich. This is a solid restaurant and everyone must check out. It is definitely Yelp worthy. I know you won't regret it read more

I got the risotto Scallop and it was perfectly cooked to my taste! The taste, texture & temperature made my eyes lit up after the first bit! It was so sweet and tender! I cleared the whole plate in no time. First time at this restaurant and will be coming back! read more

Such a cute restaurant with fast service!!! As an appetizer, my boyfriend and I ordered the beef tartare and a passion fruit iced tea. For our mains, we tried their seared scallop risotto and the uni pasta. The dishes came with a nice starter salad before our dishes came out. The tartare was good but was outshone by the risotto and pasta. The only thing that wasn't good was the iced tea - it wasn't sweet enough. Overall a really nice restaurant that we'd definitely return to. read more

OMG! They deserve 5 stars! We were looking for something new and different. This little gem hit all of those marks! Let's break this down! They have specials for parties of 2, 3 and even 4 or more. There were only two of us so we did the math and it was better we went with the 2 person special for $39 each. Our special was great because we can pick our own 1 appetizer, 1 salad, 1 entree, 1 pasta and 2 desserts. The combo with 4 or more ppl same price per person but the entree and riossoto is chef's choice. Appetizer: Beef Tataki 5/5 stars This is a MUST get. You get 8 slices (4 per person) medium-rare perfectly sliced. It comes with green onion, daikon and ponzu sauce. You assemble it to each slice of beef to make that perfect bite! My favorite dish to kick it off! Salad: Shrimp Tempura Salad 5/5 This was good because it pairs with romaine salad with alfalfa and warm fried shrimp tempura in a apple cider vinaigrette and spicy mayo. The cold salad with a bit of shrimp and vinaigrette and creamy spicy mayo...soooo good! Entree: Osso Bucco 4.5/5 Osso bucco came in a plate with cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes sticks, and mushrooms in a demiglaze sauce. The meat was tender and the sauce was good but it felt that it can use a bit more salt. They have a small portion of short grain rice so that helped soaked up the yummy buttery brown sauce. Pasta: Seafood Pasta 4/5 The seafood pasta is cooked in a tomato based sauce. It comes with shrimp, 1 scallop, 2 clams, 1 mussel and hots of mushrooms and squid bit sizes. The pasta had a good red sauce and balanced well but I need more salt. I used the parmasan to help add salt to it and it worked! They gave us one little container of parmasan but I need like 3 more to make it to my liking. It was good but next time I will definitely want to try thr uni pasta! Dessert 1: Panna Cotta with berries 5/5 I love Panna Cotta but man, this was to the next level! It tasted like Panna cotta but it had a long jello taste to it! I mean, that really makes it Asian and Italian infusion! My husband and I couldn't get enough of it...it almost didn't want to pass it to me to eat my portion! It was refreshing, creamy and soooo delicious! Dessert 2: Croissant Bread Pudding 5/5 First of all, it DOES NOT look or taste like a Croissant in any shape of form. It had a good texture without being too dry or too soggy. Now let's talk about the sauce it sits in a caramel, coffee and burnt tasting sauce. It was so good, I found my husband wanting to pick up the plate wanting to lick it! Service 4/5 but 5/5 stars for effort! There are ONLY 6 tables and now with COVID, they have a few tables outside. We were lucky to call in 20 mins before to reserve a table for 2 on late notice. There are only 3 servers and 6 tables and some outside but they were always running around! Our server was sweet, she apologized for being patient with how busy they were trying to serve everyone. This place is good for 2 to 4 people. If you try to fit 6 ppl, you better make reservations! If you have ppl like us eating a 4 course meal, you won't get in right away because everything is made fresh and to order. They are only open 5:30-8:30PM for dinner so call and make reservations! This was a splurge for our date night but it was well worth it! I mean how many places have we eaten that we can say is Japanese-French-Italian fusion in Orange County let alone in Cypress!?!?! Does anyone know where Cypress is?! I am shooting myself in the foot for writing this review because if they get busier I might not get in next time! Nevertheless, they deserve the recognition! I was searching for something interesting to try with my family and found Cafe Hiro for Italian- Japanese fusion. We arrived around 6pm on a Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We asked to sit outside and it was very romantically set up with Christmas light. They were out of a few items today like curry, sea bass, and one of the appetizers. We ordered seafood pasta, shiso plum pasta, eggplant pasta, and scallop risotto. The seafood pasta had lots of seafood, the risotto was very rich and creamy, shiso plum pasta had the plum flavor but wished it had more shiso, and the eggplant pasta was light in flavor and the eggplant roasted. We also ordered 3 teas and came with tea bags we could choose which tea ($3 each). I also ordered the bread pudding and dessert prices are reasonable at $6. Unless that's normal for so cal and I'm used to the exorbitant prices of nor cal. There's private parking and most of the spots closer to the stores were taken but there was plenty of parking 4 rows down. read more
Came here on a Thursday night with two of my girlfriends for dinner. The place was pretty packed but good thing one of my friends made reservation ahead of time! The restaurant is somewhat tucked away in a small plaza, but with plenty of parking space! There's also outside seating for those of you who are not comfortable dining in yet! We were seated quickly and probably spent about 3 hours catching up. During the 3 hours, the waitresses constantly checked up on us and made sure we had everything we needed. For our appetizers we ordered calamari and scallop carpaccio to share. The scallops were outstanding! Extremely refreshing and tasty! Calamaris were underwhelming... Nothing special. For our entree, we ordered uni pasta, carbonara and mushroom risotto with sea bass to share. I would give the highly fried sea bass alone a five stars! Perfectly cooked with light crunchy exteriors, but the mushroom risotto taste a bit off (slightly fishy)? The uni pasta and carbonara were decent. They were both very creamy and flavorful and definitely very filling. We also ended our dinner with panna cotta, this pudding (forgot the name) and mango shorbet. All were lightly sweet and yummy, great way to end our meal! read more

I thought this place average for the price and serving size. To start, we ordered the pork belly bao. Think peking duck, but with pork belly meat. Soft, tender and flavorful. However, only came in four pieces of meat and baos. I ordered the osso bucco (braised beef). While it was quite tender, I felt that it lacked flavor. It was paired with a handful of veggies in demi-glaze and an option of rice or bread. I chose rice, which seemed like a half of a cup served. My husband ordered the uni spaghetti, which was their more popular dish. I guess I pictured it to be different than how it was served. I seemed like spaghetti noodles and spinach tossed in evoo then topped with uni and nori. Nothing special at all. The restaurant itself was small, but the servers we attentive and nice. Located in a small strip mall, so parking was plenty. Overall, I don't think I would return. read more

Been wanting to try this place for a while so my boyfriend took me here for Valentine's Day per my request. They only offered a course menu on this day for $65 per person. We had a reservation at 7:45 and got seated at around 8:05 because previous guests were taking a little longer -- not a big deal. The restaurant is small but it feels cozy. We tried most of the items offered and overall, I would say the food is around 6.8/10. The appetizers were good but nothing special that would make the restaurant stand out. We got smoked salmon, beef tataki, mini menchi katsu, and creamy crab spring roll. The best item was the beef tataki. On the other hand, the katsu threw us off the most. It didn't fit with the menu and it was dry. Our favorites were definitely the entrees, scallop risotto and uni spaghetti. Everything was okay overall, but I don't think it's worth $65 per person. I probably would prefer to order a la carte because I think the Valentine's Menu was lackluster. I lowkey felt bad for making my boyfriend take me here afterwards. read more
First time here. I was craving Japanese Italian food and went searching for close by places. Cafe Hiro happened to pop up and I was not disappointed at all!! This was the best last minute decision I've made in ages. The scallop risotto with mushrooms was exactly what I was looking for. It soothed that craving. Just sooo yummy!! Melt in your mouth. Scalloped cooked to perfection. I'm coming back for this again soon. The osso bucco was so tender. Yummy as well, but not as good as the risotto. The Demi glaze could use a little acid and some sweetness and a little red wine. This is pretty much like eating beef stew. Nothing to write home about. They did an excellent job of cooking the meat perfectly, I'll give them that. The service was great! Young lady outside waiting tables helped me right away as I got take out. I've only been here twice and each time I've ordered the infamous Uni Pasta so this review is based on the same dish. It came with a starter salad, a cup of soup (split pea?) and soft bread. The portion for both lunch and dinner were pretty big as I wasn't able to finish either. Creamy, uni-y, fishy (but in a good way) but not overbearing. I think it's better than EMC's Uni Pasta since the pasta was cooked al dente. Little morsels of uni throughout, but not too much. Although, I wish the Uni was a bit more tender, these small pieces were a bit rubbery unlike fresh uni. But, with the salad, soup and bread, I think you do get your money's worth. Cute little gem of a place - I would come back to try their other dishes like Katsu or mushroom cream pasta dish. read more

When I went they had a tent set up to help people social distance with fairy lights. Not ganna lie though, it was super cold since they weren't able to fit heat lamps in with the plastic tent - I know it's COVID era though, so things are definitely tough. The food, however, remains delicious - because it was cold the food became a bit lukewarm but the flavors were there. The uni pasta is always consistently good and that scallop carpaccio is scrumptious with the yuzu. The clam linguini was delicious and we dipped the bread the staff graciously gave us. We also had the Japanese beef tataki and it was so good and tender that we seriously considered ordering another plate. I don't believe I've ever had a bad dish there so I definitely recommend checking them out if you haven't. They do a great job with Japanese-Italian fusion! read more
I walked in and was seated at 5:30pm and I got my food at 6:30pm. It took them one whole hour. Is this normal wait times for the food? Because this was my first time dining here and I got a bad first impression. I had my eye on this restaurant for awhile but I don't want to deal with the long wait again... I've been here multiple times, the food there never let me down, everything tastes so good on the menu, lovely decorations with chill family restaurant vibe, service was perfect, it's a great place for a casual business meal as well. read more
Came here twice to catch up with friends, but also wanted to try everything that I missed the first time. The lighting of this place was -- I want to say perfect -- not too bright, not too dim, gets you in the mood to eat, and good enough for pictures. Service: frantic yet polite and friendly Food: Everything is delicious; some dishes share similarities. I thought the Osso Bucco tasted like the Beef Tongue Stew (I'm not sure if it was intentional); both have that alluring smoky braised beef flavour. Won't go in depth with the rest, but I have to give focus on the two dishes: 1) Seared Sesame Seed Crust Ahi Tuna - This dish was probably the most unique and enjoyable out of everything: texture, flavour, contrast, wow. A little crust to go with something soft, sweetness in the sauce while savoury from the seasoning, smokiness from the egg plant paired with the freshness of the tuna. 2) Ahi Tuna Tartare - basically same reason as above, but more so the chips and tartare complimented each other so well Overall, a good place to try and casually have dinner. Craving for Japanese fusion, we fibally had the opportunity to try Cafe Hiro. From the moment we entered this charming and cozy restaurant, we felt comfortable and welcomed by the respectful Japanese culture from the staff, especially our server, Fumi. She was very attentive and all of her recommendations were on point. See the pics for the appetizers and entrees we ordered. Each one. was delicious. We will definitely be back and plan on making reservations since it can get busy, especially during dinner on the weekends. read more
Surprisingly it wasn't crowded when my friend and I came for lunch. It's a small cute place. We ordered what everyone orders when they come here: uni pasta, roasted Chilean sea bass and panna cotta. The food didn't disappoint. Uni pasta has good amount of Uni. Chilean sea bass came on a bed of veggies. Both sea bass and veggies were cooked perfectly. Sea bass was moist and the vegetable were crunchy. Panna cotta was silky like silken tofu. Everything was yummy. read more

What are some gluten free options?
They don't really have any gluten-free options. It uses Japanese condiments that has gluten.
Do you have options for my vegetarian friend?
They have salads but the portions and pricing makes it not worth it. They are not accommodating with any requests whatsoever.
Do you host private events? I am very interested in a luncheon event for approximately 20-25 people.
