This cafe seems to get a lot of mixed reviews: some say it's great, others say they had a terrible time? The place is decorated beautifully with background music that is not too loud and allows for conversation. Keep in mind that it is on the smaller side so they only have 3 tables insides. There's also sitting outside which might be nice based on weather. We got the Fountain of Youth smoothie and it tasted very natural and balanced. First off, the service here is great. Both baristas during my stop was very nice, friendly, and personable. Onto the coffee. I had a cold brew with a splash of half/half. It was the foulest coffee I have ever had. I've had so many cold brews before, it's actually one of my favorite drinks because it's cold and I am almost always down for a cold coffee. This one was sour and bitter, and there was just no redeeming factor. I had 3 sips and had to throw it out, because it was literally making me want to throw up. We made a little stop here for an after-breakfast ending. It's been here for a while, but even though it is only a 10 min casual walk from our place, we had never ventured in. We ordered a latte and almond croissant to stay. (I am all about 'to stay' and have a meal on real dinner ware) The almond croissant was light and flaky with a thin layer of creamy frangipane inside. Not the most amazing (of course nothing compares to pastries in Paris FR) but for around here, light and tasty. The latte was delicious - rich and dark and creamy with a strong, but not too heavy, coffee taste - nutty and cocoaey. This was a 5- latte! The barista and cashier were extremely pleaaant and welcoming. We enjoyed this nice little reprieve on the comfy green sofa in the rear. Such a cute place! I was first drawn into this place because I saw the cute decor on instagram last year and was finally able to visit. The workers were very nice and wearing their masks. Me and my boyfriend picked the Revitalize and Energizer juices and they both tasted so fresh and fruity. For food we both got the Bruschetta de Poulet Panini. I was so happy this was on the menu because I love bruschetta and it did not disappoint. The price was a bit steep but there was a lot on the plate and we were both full by the end! We were also able to relax on the pretty couches because there was no one else there. We went around 1pm on a Saturday. The lavender latte was an intriguing break from the usual coffee, complex but not gimmicky. There are plenty of tables at an adjacent park. This place has a very cute aesthetic, lovely outdoor space next to a park and delicious coffee but their food items really fall short (and expensive). I had high hopes for this spot and came by here with a few friends but their food was quite disappointing. Personally I had the strawberry crepes which was not soft at all, rathery rubbery texture and overwhelming sweet. I was hoping they would be able to accomodate and make a savory egg/cheese crepe but they didn't allow that, I ended up ordering egg whites and cheese on the side that ended up being extremely salty!! I was so unsatisfied with my meal. My friends had the bruschetta sandwich and meat one which they found rather mediocre as well - they comments were similar in that for the price point they weren't so impressive. Furthermore, the menu states the paninis come with plantain chips! Nobody gave any plantain chips and it was towards the end of the meal when we realized anyways, but why was that missed?! Overall very unlikely to make my way here again, there are many little cafes around JC, I didn't think this made a mark. At most the coffee was great but was hoping for much better food. read more

Ordered a smoked salmon sandwich this morning. Thought it was gonna come as toast points but this sandwich was SO GEWD. The warm multi-grain (homemade tasting) bread, perfect amount of fresh cream cheese, delectable lox, ripe tomato and arugula omg. I downed this sandwich - didn't even have a chance to take a pic! Wanted to try the coffee here since it has such great reviews. Mine fell short. Delivery also took a long time. I'm not sure why. I ordered a large latte with almond milk ($0.75 more) and seamless made me choose a flavor, I didn't want one. I chose hazelnut, adds more to the cost. My latte was $6.25 for 16oz! Crazy! That's a medium at Starbucks btw. I also ordered a large cold brew for my boyfriend with almond milk ($0.75 extra) because seamless makes you choose a milk. And I ordered the almond croissant for $4 against my better judgement. What if I want coffee without milk or cream?? I wish that was an option and you didn't have to put it in special requests (which some places don't pay attention to). This is a Seamless issue though. Doesn't reflect my review.*** Anyway! The almond croissant turned out to be the best part of this order. It was a typical size croissant, nice and flaky. Soft and fresh. Not warm... if it was supposed to be? But I didn't mind. It said filled with almond cream. Mine was not "filled." But the almond center was sweet and tasty. Lots of toasted almond slivers on top. A little overpriced at $4 though. For that reason alone, I wouldn't order it again. My latte I thought would arrive hot since it didn't say iced. But it arrived iced! I also didn't get a hazelnut flavor...it was some strange super sweet minty syrup on the bottom that didn't mix in thank goodness because it was gross. I'm not sure what it was exactly but I don't want it again!! It's such a shame because I think the latte itself tasted pretty good, as long as I didn't accidentally sip some of the strange minty sugar syrup! Yuck. It was disgustingly too sweet. My boyfriends cold brew was $5.25...for 16oz. Again, that's a medium at Starbucks! This place is so overpriced!! Especially for Jersey City. Come on now. NYC prices. Cafe Esme is a little touch of France in JC! This quaint cafe located on Marin Blvd makes everything from scratch and it smells sooo good inside!! I can't wait until the world returns to normal so you can experience the smell yourself! The staff is really awesome here and the atmosphere reflects it. The lighting is great if you're coming here to do work and there's sufficient work stations. I love the different takes from Lavender to Rose lattes because the taste was so different from anything I'd ever had! Definitely a Bushwick/Williamsburg feel of the arts which we need more of here! I was looking forward to having Cafe Esme again because when I first tried it at a Yelp event back in March, I was really pleased with the experience. Unfortunately, my recent visit was pretty disappointing. My boyfriend and I stopped in a few weeks ago and ordered what we had last time: breakfast wraps and cappuccinos. When we opened up the boxes, we thought we got the wrong order. The usual chunks of ham were replaced with thin slices and there were no greens at all. They tasted okay, but the comparison pics make me sad lol. Cappuccinos were also okay, definitely didn't taste as strong as we remembered. Unsure if maybe they ran out of ingredients or changed up their menu since our first visit in March. Hopefully the latter isn't the case because if it is, then I'd suggest skipping out on the food. Other than the food, the aesthetic of this cafe is really nice and seems like a great spot to get some work done. Parking is a little difficult to find, but not impossible. Not a fan . Their Instagram account gives out a lot of friendly and welcoming vibes . But I've been here twice now and the baristas are not even close to being friendly . No smiles no greeting . One time they barely had 2 people and they were getting worked up and didn't even acknowledge that I was standing at the counter for a long time . The owner is rude / indifferent towards your presence too . There's nothing worse than a coffee shop with bad customer service and cold staff , no matter how good their food / coffee is . Food is just OK . Nothing to write home about . Omelette was greasy . Never get "juice" here . It's more like a ice slush / pulp with ice kinda situation with tons of pulp which yoU can't even suck with the straw and it wasn't even filled to the brim . Waste of $ . After seeing a couple photos on IG of the Rose Latte, I put newly opened Cafe Esme on my ASAP must try list. I mean we all deserve rose petals in our lattes right!? Plus the space looked so beautiful with all those cute plants and sunlight streaming through the windows. Ambiance - Steps away towards Hamilton Park on 8th, Cafe Esme is a bright sunny peaceful urban oasis. Cozy, classy and stylish at the same time. Plenty of fresh alive green plants and succulents adorn every table. Ideal for a meeting, coffee date, brunch or lunch. The space is intimate but each of the tables have plenty of room around them. Did I mention the WiFi! I could see myself working from here with a laptop. There are beautiful plush deep green couches that are so comfy and beautiful for photos. Once you come you in and get settled with drinks and food you will forget about the rest of the world and want to spend hours here! Drinks - I ordered a Rose Latte (with almond milk) and fell in love at first sip. The latte was expertly crafr made - proper amounts of milk/espresso. Only a hint of sweetness which is customizable. Super creamy and foamy on top. Hints of sweetness, milk chocolate and raspberries mixed with the rose to make a one of a kind tasting drink. All of the coffee and espresso is Kobrick which is extremely high quality and so flavorful and complex. All of the water is filtered through a 4 filter system that removes any impurities. This makes a huge difference in the final product. No heavy burned coffee taste here. Also tried the lavender latte and *loved*. Swoon. These drinks are both super photogenic and taste amazing. Similar to the Rose, she tastes as good as she looks and is adorned with real lavender you can taste as it mixes with the steamed milk. The beverage manager who created this drink was previously at Le Cou Cou. She's really awesome, super friendly and worth a special visit here to meet her - Eden! You can tell she cares about making espresso properly and the proof is in the whimsical taste. All espresso drinks are freshly ground and made properly. Food - everything is made in house except a few of the pastries. Croissants and apple pie are def made in house. Just ask if you have a question, the staff is super sweet and patient here. I had a vegetable soup that had lots of fresh veggies and was made that morning. Had a hint of chipotle for a little bit of warming spice. I was told soups change frequently and I can't wait to try more. Smoked salmon sandwich went perfectly with the latte. Even a simple toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese was fantastic! Def try some of the food. Parking is a breeze. Located very close to the Holland Tunnel , Cafe Esme is a great place to stop for food/coffee on your road trip out of town. Parking Options are Newport Mall parking lot South Western side (towards Marin) - worth a trip from out of town for the floral lattes and fantastic vibes! Or try to look for street parking on 8th, just be mindful of street parking. Or take the light rail to Newport center and walk through the mall toward Hamilton Park. So easy to get to. Cafe Esme is going to be my winter go-to when I want to feel zen, catch up with a friend and enjoy a latte in a chic comfortable setting. read more

I would rate this higher but only my first visit, but this place is quaint and clean. A little hard to find because the GPS shows it off the Main Street but it's actúa off the side street, by the fire station. Food, drinks and service was all GREAT! Cafe Esme is a quaint small coffee shop near Holland Tunnel. It is not an outstanding location to begin with, but what really threw me off is their pricing as several others have commented as well. I ordered an iced lavender latte with oat milk and was presented a receipt for $8+. So they automatically assumed I want the large coffee without asking me and add a solid $1 for a splash of oat milk. I am a little lost here; it's 2023 and oat milk ain't any more expensive than regular milk. But to start, $7 for a coffee before milk? I hope this coffee shop knows they ain't located on Fifth Ave. These are crazy prices for absolutely mediocre coffee. Never returning to this rip off of an establishment. read more

The food came out very late and it was very very cold like it had been sitting in the fridge for an hour cold. Some foods are ok cold like my crepes although room temperature is preferred but my fiancé's Benedict was not edible.
