    Brunch

Since I arrived in Jersey City in 1997 a lot of things have changed. One thing though that I've loved about my city is the diversity of culture--most specially food! I dragged my hubby to have breakfast downtown one Saturday and thank God he agreed and told me search for one that I'd think will be good. I searched for a cafe, found one, but this one was on the other side of the street and based on another review--they said it was "clean" so we ended going to Cafe Tabarka. So, let's start with the positives first: very clean and smelled good from the time that you walk in. They have simple decor, but pleasant and definitely not loud. You order and pay at the counter where you'll find an easy to read drinks menu on the wall while their food menu is accessible in the counter as well. An array of yummy little bites are displayed as well for you to enjoy. Honestly--they'll make you happy! For a food lover like me, I love looking at the display of their menu so I don't need to guess what they are. Food is good. Wait time is alright. Coffee came first and they give you water to wash the coffee taste after. There was a sweet lady serving and she was a little bit chatty making you feel you've been going to their place for a long time. Charming, I should say. So here's my honest comment: they should have a good way to get orders and know exactly who ordered them. Three times have we been approached and asked if we ordered the food they're serving. Once, they even asked us if we ordered tea when our coffee orders were already served. We were asked if we ordered sandwiches when the couple next to us were the ones who ordered them. It's like their food has already been sniffed by other people . Then the staff should not be asked anymore for cutleries. They should already know if the customers will be needing cutleries based on their orders. I think it might be even better if the cutleries were already given once they give the water bottles. Napkins could come handy. Because if I didn't ask for cutleries, there were no napkins at all. Will I come back? Definitely because their food was good and the owners were nice. Bathroom is clean as well. Come and visit them to taste and see. Happy tummy!

This place is great! Get the Dolma latte, it's their in house beverage. The food is also delicious!

If texture doesn't bother you (liberal amount of black sesame!), I'd suggest getting this latte (10/10). Both pastries were great in their own right. For my second matcha of the day, this matcha was like your everyday/average matcha. Can't go wrong, but it wasn't mind-blowing. If you're in the Theatre District, I'd definitely recommend popping in for a drink & a treat!

I had seen their cute pastries online and wanted to check them out. We got the items above and a few coffees. The cakes are cute. Tho not as light and fluffy as I was expecting. I thought they'd be more like the asian bakeries we have back in SF. Not as sweet as american desserts, but it was kinda in between. The egg sandwich I really wanted to like since I've been craving one. But the it was sooo dry. Definitely needed more mayo. And the bread wasn't very fluffy either. Cute spot if you want cute desserts. Tho I think they are more geared towards posting on socials. REVIEW #3999

It's pricey, but welcome to FiDi. My one complaint is they try to upsell you. Like, I'm sure your pastry that's unique to Puerto Rico and that I've never had before is delicious, but I need to get going and I don't want to dip into my 401k for it.

Walking the streets close to my hotel I stumbled across a big PuertoRican flag infront of a…read morebusiness and I knew I wanted to check out what it was. It happened to be 787 Coffee which I have visited plenty of times on the island and enjoy. With excitement and in Spanish I tell the cashier that I was happy to come across this place as I have tried them out in PR. How is it that this "jibara" apparently from Maricao, spoke to me in broken English while I am talking to her in our native language, total fail. Anyhow, I ordered the coquito hot latte with an extra shot of rum and oat milk, fine, I paid $11 for a very small coffee. Now what I can't believe is that the quesito pastry was $8. I really wanted it but it was not until I paid that I then noticed the price. I sat to eat it while I waited for my name to be called as mentioned by the cashier. I walked around looking at everything, the music very loud and hard for people sitting to have conversations, the place is very colorful and with many PR sayings, however the place also feels very Americanized with the music and layout. I still awaited my name to be called minutes later, but nothing. I approached the cashier, who was just standing there, to ask about my coffee and she wasn't able to tell me so she asked the barista steps away from her. He pointed to a cofre sitting on their counter, it had my name, and when I pointed out that I was waiting for my name to be called, she shrugged her shoulders and smiled like she didn't care. The coffee by now was not all that hot, I never tasted any rum or coquito flavor and felt I wasted my time at this place. What's more upsetting is that I left a nice tip for a service that was not provided. They couldn't even bring the coffee ti my table once they realized it was sitting there and they forgot to call my name. You can find better service elsewhere.
