Café Donuts was a great little find on our road trip! The donuts were fresh, flavorful, and not overly sweet. If you're vegan, they also offer some great vegan options on weekends, which was a nice surprise. Cronut fans, don't miss it, it's definitely worth trying. Was my fav of the dozen. Nice place with friendly staff. Donuts are cheap, and I like that there are places to sit inside. Lots of flavors to choose from and they do a good job changing up what they offer. They also offer lots of vegan donut options if you are looking for that. I do with the apple fritter had a bit more apple in it (personal preference) but still yummy! This morning I stopped by Cafe Donuts for the first time ever! It was so good! I started out just ordering a vegan cake donut, and vegan apple fritter. Then the lady taking my order asked if I have had their vegan cinnamon roll, and I told her I hadn't and this was my first time there. I told her to go ahead and throw one in, and she told me that I'd love it, that it'd be hard to believe it was vegan, and that it would be my favorite. She was right on all accounts! Stopped for an eclair and a cup of tea. Eclair hit the spot, especially since I haven't had one in YEARS! Custard was creamy, thick and perfect. I had a choice of vanilla or chocolate frosting and had to go traditional with chocolate, did not disappoint. The only thing that did is they do not offer chai but there were three choices of tea, chamomile, green and black. Unfortunately, after last night's steady downpour, for hours, there is a leak in the middle of the sitting area. Service was friendly. Located in an old fast food restaurant building but it's fine for a coffee/tea donut shop. They even have a drive thru. I was surprised by a box of vegan donuts for my birthday and they were probably my favorite birthday gift. My whole (non-vegan) family devoured them. Such a great variety (jelly-filled, cinnamon buns, twists, glazed, chocolate frosted, chocolate cream-filled, lemon-filled) and they are worth the extra drive as they are so much better than the Donut Bar vegan ones. read more

We are fairly new to the area around Toledo and have been looking for a good donut shop. We drove 30 minutes to see if this was it, due to a Facebook post popping up. We are so glad we made the drive!! The donuts were light and airy with delicious toppings. We got a little bit of everything from a Boston crème, Oreo topped, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, coffee roll (cinnamon roll) and they were even nice enough to make me a fresh long John/chocolate bar that does not have any filling!!! The service was friendly and pleasant as they could joke and help us get our 1/2 dozen at the same time. We would definitely recommend this cute shop and we will be back in the near future for sure!! We couldn't wait to eat the goods, so unfortunately I don't have a picture. But I'll add one next time!! read more

These donuts are the best I have had in Toledo in the over 20 years I have lived here. The new owners have carried on the wonderful recipes from the previous ones, and somehow made them even better if that's possible. The drive thru is an added convenience that is appreciated during the early morning hours when we may not be dressed appropriately enough to actually leave the car. For a long term donut shop this is the best around. Good service, clean, good customers, reasonable prices, and a good place to take kids. The donuts have good taste (because of minimum preservatives they don't last three plus days) and coffee. As a kid it was always a big deal for me and dad to sneak away on a Saturday morning to get a fresh donut and a carton of milk. Half the fun was leaving mom and little brother at home and getting an hour with dad by ourselves. We made it a point to go to a special spot across town driving by others to get the best plain glazed donut or jelly filled still warm from the oven. Imagine my surprise when I stopped into Cafe Donuts and was immediately transported back to my youth and breathed in that smell from 40+ years ago! Looking at all those different donuts had me feeling like a boy again. The wife and I got a dozen. Cream filled, raspberry filled, chocolate, and of course, a few plain glazed just for me! The young lady behind the counter was patient as we kept asking what was that one and that one and... I'm not going to lie, it was torture to smell those donuts in the car on the drive home! I've been back again and again for of a few reasons. First of all, the donuts were delicious. Moist and chewy, with a good recipe. You can tell when places cut corners or use cheap ingredients. The icing is perfect and the fillings are good. I think they have the best cream filling I've ever had. The staff have always been good to us, too. I appreciate the half off dozens but frankly don't mind paying full price for anything as long as the quality is there. All those pretty little donuts on display in the shop takes me back and I can't wait to sneak away on a Saturday morning with my newest granddaughter for a couple of glazed and some milk and to spend an hour or so enjoying the simple things. read more

My sister and I went over one morning and each bought one vegan donut. We ate them in the car and immediately walked back in to buy a full dozen, THEY WERE THAT GOOD. Now normally, I am Team Yeast Donut all the way. Café Donuts offers a vegan cake donut. At first, I am not going to lie, I was disappointed because most cake donuts I have had in the past were dry and, well, too cakey. Needless to say, café donuts changed my entire opinion on cake donuts because this vegan donut is unlike any other donut I have ever had in my life (vegan or not). It is buttery, rich and extremely sweet with a crispy outer crust surrounding a soft and moist inside. IT IS HEAVELY. Every single time I come in town I always get a dozen and literally eat 3 in one sitting. They are addicting, perfect, phenomenal and I really hope they make more flavors in the future. Vegan donuts also have a bad rep for being expensive... not Café Donuts. They offer a top-quality product for an extremely reasonable price. So I live in California for the last 40 years but from Sylvania. Whenever I come into Toledo my first stop if Cafe Donuts. NO ONE makes donuts as well as they do. Best donut shop in Toledo. Fresh, tasty, never had a bad donut there to date, and we've been coming here for over eleven years. The owners are super sweet and always friendly. You can smell their donuts across the street. Their coffee is hit or miss, but it never stops us from going there. If i'm not mistaken, their donuts sell for $5.99 a dozen between 6-9pm, regularly $8.99/dozen (other than specialty ones). Speaking of which, their apple fritters and Cronuts are ridiculously addictive. Beats any "gourmet" donut in town. Five stars hands down for their donuts; coffee and sandwiches are okay, but don't let that stop you from trying this mom and pop shop! Definitely A Toledo staple. read more
