Very nice sitting room for enjoying coffee. I got here very early on Saturday so nobody here.

This is a cool, unique and local coffee shop with a huge, comfortable back room full of chairs and space. They serve Fidalgo coffee which I'd never tried but is from Burlington, WA... 72 miles away. My espresso had a nice crema and a wonderful aroma! Heck, Aroma is the name of this place so I had high hopes! Upon taking my first sip, the word that came to mind was "smooth"! The second word for this medium dark coffee was "delicious"! This was the first of four double espressos at four different places on Saturday morning! Hey... when near Seattle, coffee is a must! As for the breakfast sandwich I ordered, it was supposed to be on a croissant but I was highly not impressed. I think it was microwaved and the croissant was not the slightest bit flaky. Not recommended. Life is good with a smooth aromatic espresso!

How I heard of this place: A new friend wanted to meet up for coffee and a (long) catch-up. She found and recommended this spot, which we had the pleasure of trying this morning. Type of cuisine: A cafe with espresso beverages (and ones without caffeine), a small selection of sweet pastries, and a handful of breakfast sandwiches. Ambiance: Outside, a small parking lot is viewable from several tables and chairs set up for outdoor visits. We were pleasantly surprised to see chairs for little ones (children), too! Inside the front door, one may think that orders are only available for take-away (or outdoor seating). The space is mostly taken up by a large bar area for the barista to work, one small table and barquette (that's currently filled with decorations and trinkets). But through a glass-paned door to the back, one enters a large living room. Expansive, and with armchairs, couches, coffee tables, even tables and chairs for working can be found. The space is warm, a bit eclectic with too many varied forms of cheesy art and decor, but it's not as distracting as might be expected. It's still a very cozy living room space that's been created for this third place in life. What I ordered: The ominous morning fog, drizzling and misting rain, and greyness leant itself to welcoming the winter Peppermint Mocha (12oz $4.55, plus flavor for $0.85) and a microwaved, square shaped breakfast croissant with Canadian bacon, egg and cheese (about $7). What I loved: The sandwich was warm and flavorful, but when not eaten quickly enough, the edges so crusty and hard, it couldn't be bit through and had to be broken off (discarded). The peppermint mocha, though, was perfectly prepared. It was the best I've had in years. Thank you vegetarian barista! Why I loved it: Cafe Aroma is a very cozy, easy space to spend your morning. Whether you're working, catching up with friends, or spending a lazy afternoon with family in a living room setting (that's not at home), it's wonderful! And the peppermint mocha. Must go back for it again soon. Cost: Average to high (espresso beverage prices are similar to most cafes, but the sandwich seemed overpriced for quality and preparation).

Showing off all the pastry options. Even have granola.

Love coming here for their drinks, ambience and cheerful baristas. As you walk in, there is a nostalgic feel to the place. Nicely decorated, with plants outside. Nice outside patio. Big quiet adjacent room to the right. As a grandmother, they offer the bonus of a child's play area. Tired parents can have their child distracted in the area and have time to relax. They even have a drive through, if you are in a hurry. The baristas here are welcoming. I have been happily greeted right when they opened to fuel up for a long day. I have tried many hot and cold drinks here. They have such a wide variety of drinks even a nice variety of uncaffinated one. The chai here is spicy and not too sweet. I long for the blended iced mocha, that keeps me awake for at least 12 hours. They put effort into making drinks carefully. They have breakfast and bagel sandwiches, which are alright. Most of the time I have come in here, is getting ready for a 12 hour workday. I'm sleepy and slightly grumpy. I always feel better after visiting. The happy greeting, the calm atmosphere and great drinks. A secret vice of mine is I like to read when drinking coffee. They have a stash of books I was delighted to find.

Café Aroma is a great local coffee shop. I met a friend for coffee, and was thoroughly impressed with the atmosphere at Café Aroma. They have a very broad and affordable coffee menu, much cheaper than Starbucks and the larger establishments. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They have a very large seating area, that you can find a spot to quietly chat, read a book or work on a project. The coffee selection was great, and I thoroughly enjoyed the overall experience.

Before our morning hike, we stopped at Cafe Aroma for some much needed caffeine sustenance. The pastry display case was too tempting to pass up - I ended up picking up an almond pastry because aesthetic. It was pleasing to the eye but also to the palate. It was flaky and crispy and fragrant. The iced latte was standard and while it wasn't anything too special, it was much needed juice to get the day going. Seating seemed limited near the coffee bar, but looks like there was a separate room, too. Since the table by the counter was available, we didn't venture back there. Overall, Cafe Aroma is a great spot to grab a pastry and a coffee, whether you're on the go or just chillin'.

Much bigger space than I thought!

I hadn't been back since a previous bad experience almost a year ago now and wanted to give this place another try. Same bad service. The bad service I received almost a year ago that made me stop coming to this place was I stopped by for lunch and got a grilled pork banh mi and asked for little to no/ very light mayo or whatever spread is on it as the visit before was too much for me and wanted to avoid that... Staff wasn't friendly that day. When I was eating the sandwich instead of little to no mayo it had globs like no exaggeration a lot/too much mayo spread for me so I did tear off a piece of the bread that I couldn't get the mayo off of and tried to take off the other globs and continued eating. I did not waste food. I just wasted the globs and a small piece of bread. I bussed my own table as that seems to be un clear if you do or don't and put the trash in the trash(globs of mayo +piece of bread) and plate near the counter. A staff member exited the kitchen and walks towards the register near the trash can and she proceeded to open the trash can and keep it open, looked at me and asked how was everything. I was honest and told her I always enjoy the food however today too much mayo and she just kept peering down at my trash in the trash and then her coworker exited the kitchen to join the convo and no sorry or anything...just kept her foot on the trash to keep it open and both employees looked at the trash and looked at me rudely so I told them thank you have a nice day and was off put by the experience. They were treating me like I was wasting or complaining. It was truly so weird like why keep the trash open and almost like try to embarrass me or treat me like I did something wrong? Also why no smiles, why no empathy. I don't like mayo..big deal! I still ate that whole sandwich! Recent visit on 06/06/26. Walked in and cafe wasn't busy, but trash on the floors and dirty tables. Two women. One seemed to be in training. No smiles, no welcome in, just a frown (no joke the woman training the other I believe was frowning and she looked mad) and a what can I get you? I ordered for dine in but was given to go box and to go utensils. I have to assume they just didn't want to do the dishes as one couple had dine in plates and were actually pointing to each other the trash on the floor and discussing their meal. I ordered the pho banh mi so I wouldn't have to worry about a mayo situation tbh. Food was flavorful and good. Portions seem to be a bit smaller than what I remember. If they added actual pho to the menu I bet it would be a hit! To-go ordering seems the popular thing here and if I return is what I'll do. Just sad as this used to be my fav spot but now I've found a better place with better service and food. Drinks here and food is super tasty but wish service, cleanliness, and atmosphere could be improved! Service is important and with my past two visits I feel it's a very unwelcoming atmosphere with the staff being hostile and cold and cafe seating indoors and outdoors are dirty. For me when spending my money somewhere I don't want to be treated poorly or like I'm an inconvenience or just being tolerated. The service leaves such a bad impression that it makes me avoid this place now when I used to recommend it.

Want to see what its like to have an owner/operator instead of the typical bar staff. Thats what you're getting here. I dont typically go to wine bars or similar for conversation, as that is lacking, but herein, my date and I had a great conversation about Geology, science, LOVE, DEATH, the deepest pursuits of the soul, as well as diving into the meaning of life and existence. Some of those may or may not be true, but the gist is that they could all have been true The owners make the effort to connect. The Seattle freeze doesnt live here it seems. I can appreciate a fine conversation over an excellent glass of sparkling as much as the next guy, and here you will definitely get it. If you try. Vibe check is spot on. The Venue. Charming. Can we say that again. VERY C H A R M I N G indeed. Open spaces. Room to spread out. Quiet and calm and inviting with indoor AND outdoor spaces. The neighborhood makes it easy to get to and even easier to park at.... which is a MAJOR win. Selection. This Drumlin update is essentially transitional, jumping from Nov 2022 to Feb 2025 to July 2025…read more(7/20/25). I enjoy stopping by Shoreline's Ridgecrest neighborhood, because of the Crest theater, Ridgecrest Books, Cafe Aroma, and Drumlin. Drumlin is the sister restaurant to the adjacent Ridgecrest Pub which often hosts a wide variety of food trucks. I like how Ridgecrest overall has created a pleasant sense of community. Drumlin first came onto my radar screen because I heard about an Escoffier trained pastry chef working there from another Yelp Elite. I tried a few times to stop by, but the popular baked goods were always sold out. But I did end up having a tasty lunch which I wrote up in my previous review from 11/13/22. This pastry chef has since then moved on. Drumlin then returned onto my radar screen because I heard of about a revamp of their beverage and culinary program. I was able to spontaneously stop by, snag a two top and really enjoyed my first 2025 visit back on February 19th. I savored my spinach salad, casio e pepe risotto, and Running Up That Hill cocktail. It was a bit spendy since I had just started a new job. However, I appreciated the quality and its location close to home. It was nice to see positive write ups in Seattle Magazine and The Stranger, giving positive props to this Shoreline destination. Then I heard that Drumlin went into full cafe mode with daily business hours 7am to 1pm. Menu focuses on beverages, baked goods, and breakfast sandwiches/wraps for the time being. Interesting pivot, but not fully using their awesome multi-purpose space. They have outdoor seating, a full bar, a stage, many two tops against a banquette, street parking, and a dedicated private parking lot. Oh well, I'm sure there is a story behind that and why dinner service has been suspended. Anyways, subsequent visits happened all within a week on July 12th, 13th, and 20th. The first two visits were around 11 am, today's visit was at 745 am. The visits were all onsite for one hour, 90 minutes, and five hours, respectively. Absolutely chill vibe being onsite. Often the challenge visiting indie cafes, there's never enough seating, too crowded, the sea of laptops, ad naseum. I enjoy seeing solos, pairs, groups, and families stopping in whether to stay awhile or as takeout. I've enjoyed collectively to date: 3 - 16oz iced mochas, 1 chocolate chip cookie, one peach gingerbread cake slice, and two Morning Glory muffins. Today's muffin was especially awesome, still warm from the oven, love the overall moist crumb, and especially the pepitas for texture. This going to be a hard situation because I enjoy Cafe Aroma located diagonal from Drumlin, but I definitely favor the fresh onsite scratch pastries here. There's also some featured baked goods from Kaffeeklatch, located in Seattle's Lake City neighborhood. I've contributed two posts and 40 photos over five visits. Hopefully this provided a comprehensive view of my experience at Drumlin. I've been a Shoreline resident for over 23 years, I'm always rooting for hometown businesses to succeed as they evolve, remain vibrant, and viable.
