I love this place for delivery, as I haven't had the chance to visit in person. The souvlaki at lunch time is my favorite meal. I always get beef tenderloin cooked medium, and it is always perfectly juicy & tender. The Greek salad is always fresh and crisp, rice is perfect. And if you like hummas, please try the Tirokafteri dip! It's got a hummas texture but has a mild jalepeno flavor that is refreshing and addicting. I would give 5 stars but menu prices shoot up after lunch time for nearly the same dish.... That annoys me but don't let it deter y'all from trying this place, it's great food. Update : They now do not give rice AND Greek salad with the lunch souvlaki, apparently now it's only one side.... But same price? They have hand made beef and vegetable dolmas, freshly made Greek potatoes for dinner, meats grilled to order and a family recipe for the musaka and pastiche.... great greek food all around. What a fabulous evening! My future father-in-law planned a little "congrats on your engagement" dinner and our server, Amy was awesome. I loved her! I think we should be friends. So, the service was beyond amazing. The food was also some of the best Greek food ever. We were stuffed after our appetizers and lemon soups. We also got the roasted half chicken to share, which was pretty good, but wasn't my favorite thing. Their cocktails are also amazing. I got the Greek 75 and the Helen of Troy. I have come to Cafe Akroteri for years, and always loved the cuisine. Ten years ago I left Bellingham to live in NYC. I have tried a number of Greek restaurants in NY, many which were reputedly excellent, but I can say without hesitation, that Cafe Akroteri is the absolute best-better than any of the NY Greek restaurants I have tried! We happened in because they were the first restaurant downtown serving inside without a wait. Large open indoor space. Employees in masks. Food was wonderful. We tried this place for the first time. Unfortunately this restaurant was a disappointment. My wife and I both got the lamb gyros. The pita bread was not remotely fresh--it was dry and cold. The lamb meat was room temperature and very chewy (not good). This tasted like a gyro that had been sitting out for quite a while and cooled to room temperature. It tasted like poorly-heated-up leftovers, which is not what you want when you eat out. I've had MUCH better gyros at The Grill. Even worse, when my wife complained to the server about the cold gyros, she made zero effort to do anything about it. No offer to heat it up; no offer to bring another; no offer to comp or reduce the ticket. Not only did the server blow off my wife's very courteous complaint, but she thereafter all but ignored our table. Needless to say we won't be going back. read more

The best part of dining here was our waitress, who was just an adorable ball of hipsterism, unicorns, and glitter. Seriously, happy people usually just irritate me, but she really was a breath of fresh air. The food was pretty darn good. My friend was not overly impressed with his lentil soup, and I thought the dolmades were nasty (I am in the minority, but the sauce on them made everything taste bitter to me), but the spanakopita, tirakopita, hummus, and other goodies on the sampler were fantastic. Pretty decent Greek food for what it is. Have only gone for lunch and had the beef gyro with rice on the salad. Co-workers have ordered the Greek salad which always looks good. The gyros are always hot and tasty. The pita is always fresh as are the toppings. If you like garlic and like smelling like it definitely try it. They are always filled with a good amount of meat, however the amount of tzatziki is always lacking, and their typically tends to be too much feta for my liking. The dry saltiness of the feta tends to take over your mouth and overwhelm everything. All and all though it's a good pretty inexpensive and filling lunch. I've only ordered take out and it isn't the quickest, which surprises me because it's never been busy when I've gone and the assembly of a gyro and addition of rice shouldn't be a 30 minute wait. read more

The food rates four stars. The sampler plate is quite good with nice cheese and kalamata olives, tiropita, spanikopita, dolmathes, and pita with titsaki sauce. My group also had the fried calamari and were pleased. The loss of a star is because they did not have two of the main entrees available- the mousaka or pistacho. The server was nice but she was all on her own so service was slow and the food took almost 40 minutes. The place was not busy so I don't know what was going on. Cafe Akroteri is one of those places I'd noticed on each visit to Bellingham (polar bears have an unrivaled ability to detect Greek cuisine -- it's true!), but it took a couple of visits before we had the time and inclination to stop by. The decor is surprisingly modern and comfortable, with a soft, candle-lit ambiance at dinner time.ting At first, I was a bit grumpy -- although it was slow with a lot of empty tables, it took a few minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence or seated us. It was probably 10-15 minutes after that before our waitress came by, which is normally causes the bear to REND WAITSTAFF TO BITS WITH HIS CLAWS. I was moving from grumpy to testy at that point. When our waitress *did* come by, though, she made up for it with her professionalism, slightly reserved friendliness, and good looks. She never failed, from that point onward, to provide just the right amount of attentiveness. We started with an appetizer plate w/ dolmathes, olives, feta, and the like -- generous portions and simple, yet quality, tastes. Here's where my lack of an elephant-like memory fails me -- it's been like 1.5 years since I ate here, and I honestly don't remember what entrees we ordered. I *do* remember, however, nearly needing a wetnap and some privacy to clean up my naughty bits, because the food was absolutely scrumptious. LOVEs it. We went to Cafe Akroteri for lunch today. I have ordered their food on Viking before, but I have never been to the restaurant in person. All I gotta say is WHAT A GEM! I always assumed it was just a hole in the wall, but this is a real deal restaurant with parking and everything. We had an order of fries to share that were amazing. Is that shredded feta cheese I see? GTFOH! It was so freaking good. I ordered the Lamb Gyro and my girlfriend ordered the Falafel for lunch and both were at our table promptly and looked amazing. The best part was our server whose name was Christina I think? Christina was attentive, friendly, and absolutely phenomenal at her job. If I owned a restaurant, I would try to hire her in a heartbeat. 10/10 will be back again for lunch. read more

We are from the Mediterranean, so it's hard to impress us with such food, but this place did. The Greek salad is very nice, and the Greek dressing for it is wonderful. I also had the lentils soup which was very good and nicely spiced. For main I had one of the lamb dishes and I really enjoyed it. My son had the lamb Gyro and said it was excellent. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Bellingham, and the best greek place I've eaten at. This is due to the fact that everything has been very consistent. My parents have been going here since they were little! As well as I have. The servers are very kind, and are always very accommodating. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and well kept. There's some T-shirts that you can purchase behind the counter, it has the same logo on the menu, and you can show off your spirit! As for the food, it's delicious. Today we ordered three appetizers, the Falafel, Greek feta fries, and Tirokafteri. They all had great flavor. The Tirokafteri had seasoned pita bread with a jalapeno dip, they give you plenty of it. For my main course I ordered a lamb gyro, and it was awesome. The lamb was perfectly cooked and the Tazichi sauce added a great authentic flavor to it. I came here with my husband because it was recommended to us by his sweet attorney. I'm so happy we've found a delicious and relaxing locale for all my Mediterranean cravings! The server was kind, attentive, and informative. He suggested the Greek Platter with many options included (all of which were de-wich-iss!) The greek salad (appetizer) was so satisfying + creamy too! Although their calamari is seriously good, I'm not impressed with the food at this place. The tzatziki sauce was lacking a little bit of flavor. You can't screw up tzatziki sauce.... It is tough to give the place a poor review because the food I had was delicious. The biggest disappointment for me was the "Greek" coffee. It was the saddest display of Greek coffee I have experienced with the taste and the texture being equal to watered-down instant coffee. Exceptional food here. There's a full bar in the back and a candle-lit restaurant section up front. The prices can be steep if you're ordering a lamb dish, but it's so very worth it. Try the appetizer dish which includes dolmathes, feta cheese and olives, spinach filo and other tasty finger foods. The wait staff is amazing nice.
