The ambiance and decor at Cafe 37 are undeniably impressive, giving off an upscale and sophisticated vibe. The food was decent, with a few standout dishes that were well-prepared and flavorful. I really enjoyed how they accommodated our mushroom allergy as all the meals are cooked and prepared individually and not prepped ahead of time. However, the service was a major letdown we arrived to an empty restaurant and were greeted with a snarky, "do you have a reservation?" Clearly a reservation was not needed for an empty restaurant. It felt like the hostess assumed we couldn't afford to dine there because we were young, and his attitude reflected that bias. For a restaurant of this caliber, I expected much better service. I also noticed every table that came in after us was greeted with smiles and warmth by the male hostess. Our server who was female however was exceptional, she ensured allergies were not a concern. We started with a special of the beef short rib raviolis. They were good however the pasta was a bit too chewy for my liking. I order the sea scallops that were perfect, seared just right and served over a perfectly seasoned risotto and sautéed veggies. My friend ordered the red snapper special which he enjoyed minus having found a few bones. I was mostly annoyed he didn't want to say anything about the bones as a filet should not have any. My wife and I went to Café 37 tonight to celebrate her birthday. The food was delicious and the service was exquisite. We enjoyed their prix fixe menu which offered great choices of appetizer, salad, entrée and dessert. My wife enjoyed her bronzini entree. I had the filet mignon which was cooked perfectly. I am not a salad fan but must say that my watercress salad sided with ripe papaya chunks would keep me coming back for more. Cafe 37 will see us again. read more

Came here for dinner with a group of 7 on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't packed at all - at least not until it was later in the night. Cute little place that's BYOB with extremely tentative waitstaff. We were a pretty easy going group with most of us ordering the same thing and a bunch of appetizers to split with all of us. The food was amazing with the exception of the seafood paella I ordered. I think I was expecting more rice in the dish than the seafood, and the seafood didn't taste as fresh and i would've liked. Everyone else ordered the short ribs which I was pretty jealous of. The meat fell off the bone and it looked way better than my seafood paella. The waitstaff was great in refilling waters and wine glasses. They were attentive and friendly which made our experience that much better. Great upscale restaurant in Ridgewood offering a wide variety of menu options. I ordered from the prix fixed menu (4 courses for $54). I started off with the PEI Mussels and Manila Clams, which were pretty good and tasted fresh but were rather small in size. Then, the Kale Salad was also good, especially the toasted almonds, which added a nice and tasty crunch, and the pink grapefruit, which added some fruity sweetness. My main dish was the Sashimi Ahi Tuna with Risotto Milanese, which was great - the "black and blue" preparation was pretty unique and tasty, as the outer edges of the tuna got seared with some pepper along the edges while the center of each piece remained as raw sashimi. That being said, the tuna pieces were a bit small. The risotto part of the dish was very tasty too. For dessert, I got the Fallen Chocolate Cake, which was pretty small as well but rich and soft/tasty. As a whole, I'd say the prix fixed menu was a pretty good deal, despite each of the four courses being somewhat small in size. The place itself is a nice fine dining, white tablecloth with wine glasses kind of place, although there is technically no formal dress code (use your own judgement though). The staff were very friendly and the service speed was okay. I would recommend making a reservation on the weekends, because the place is not particularly big and it can fill up at peak hours. The noise level inside was moderate. The restaurant is right next to the new Ridgewood parking garage, which makes it a very convenient location. Overall, I would highly recommend Cafe 37 if you are looking for a nice place to celebrate a special occasion without going too over the top at a super pricey place. read more

(Small note: we ordered three vegetarian entrees and two came out the same but one of the choices was supposed to be different. We didn't want to complain because it was still really good.) The entrees are pretty good sized portions but the desserts are on the smaller side, though you can still share small bites. The entrees are around $30-40 generally and it's BYOB. The service was nice. The actual seating space is rather small, and the tables close together. The restaurant wasn't busy, as only 3 other tables were occupied. Due to Covid their menu is online. It's a concise list with limited items in appetizers, entrees and desserts. We decided to try the Octopus appetizer, Bronzini and Seafood dishes for entree. The prep time was excellent , as we didn't have to wait long at all to get our food. We were very impressed with delicate presentation of each dish. All items including vegetables were cooked to perfection. TL:DR - completely dishonest about prix fix for NYE. I called 2x to confirm and was reassured the menu was a la carte, We just got back from a very disappointing experience. Every year my family and I choose a restaurant for NYE; it's a special time and we have been doing this for years and I have many reviews on past experiences. I avoid prix fix dinners like the plague and when I called the restaurant at the beginning of December I was assured there is an a la carte menu for NYE, no prix fix so I made a reservation. I called on Friday to confirm and again was assured there are specials for NYE but it's a la carte menu. At NO TIME was $115 pp mentioned. The team has to train whoever is answering patrons calls that they know the difference. The menu is also hard to navigate to on the website... deceiving. We sit down and find out it's $115 per person with LIMITED options for apps, main and dessert, I was flabbergasted at that time and just stayed. We paid $600 cash for a mediocre experience, you get charged for credit cards that's another nightmare as well as tip that I could not control another negative. I am so super disappointed in establishments that are dishonest. $600 is a lot of money for people and if you can sleep at night charging this obscene fee for mediocre food, good luck to you. I have never experienced this in all our years exploring restaurants around Bergen County. Everyone is transparent when it comes to NYE and holiday menus . I truly understand restaurants are suffering and we need to support them, but please be honest. Will not return nor will I recommend to anyone. read more

The food is delicious- have been here several times lately and doesn't disappoint ever. Not inexpensive but worth it and you save on liquor as it's byob. The service is wonderful also. Every table outside was taken on a Saturday night in August when it is typically slow so it shows the strength of the food. Have had salmon- delicious and the tuna was fantastic. Not a lot but enough. The wedge salad with blue cheese and apple was fantastic- I mean for a salad- pretty amazing and quite large. Go, don't worry re the cost (Tuna-$36) and you will enjoy. We were walkins at 530 on a Saturday night. The host maaged to squeeze us in on condition we finished by 7. No problem. Service was exceptional from the beginning. The restaurant does not serve alcohol so after ordering I grabbed a bottle of NZ sauvignon blanc from the large liquor store across the street. Alex brought an ice bucket. Warm rolls arrived with a butter rosette. As it was a warm day we both pkumped for salads. I went with the wedge salad and it was a goid one. Plenty of blue cheese, two slices of crisp bacon, not too much sauce. A decorative streak of yellow pepper puree. Could have used more of that. La Pirtena went with the mixed salad with strawberries. No complaints there. Mains arrived at the appointed time. I had gone with the mixed seafood over fettuccine and accepted the scallop upsell ($18). I would recommend you do the same. These were some of the most flavorful scallops in recent memory. The shrimp were also excellent plump, fresh and succulent. The mussels had been perfectly cooked (no unopened ones) but were on the small side. The broad fettucine were almost certainly homemade at the petfect doneness. Not the usual sauce it spoke of seafood not tomatoes. La Portena's halibut came over a shallot potato cake that woul elevate any meal and broccolini. As 7 was approaching we let Alex know and he was able to extend our stay. We went with the Bananas Foster bread pudding and were glad we did. Overall I would say this is a legitimate fine dining restaurant with great food, highly professional service and a nice casual vibe. The main courses can get pricey but you will save more on wine. We were here twice before, the last time being a year ago, and everything was great. Unfortunately, since then, everything has gone down. The service wasn't great - we had to ask twice before our one drink came; our water glasses were re-filled only once during our meal; and, when we asked for additional toast (one of the appetizers included small triangles of toast) we received one tiny triangle after we already gave up waiting for it. The food, while not bad, was far from the level it was a year ago, and the portions have become quite small. Definitely not worth the price. We won't be returning. read more

It was good but not the best I've ever had. My husband orders the salmon and a side of risotto. Those were delicious. I ordered the halibut, another special topped with mussels and clams served over a saffron rice. YUM! It was delicious. It's a little pricey so we would probably come back for a special occasion.
