Fallen Chocolate Cake

Came here for dinner with a group of 7 on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't packed at all - at least not until it was later in the night. Cute little place that's BYOB with extremely tentative waitstaff. We were a pretty easy going group with most of us ordering the same thing and a bunch of appetizers to split with all of us. The food was amazing with the exception of the seafood paella I ordered. I think I was expecting more rice in the dish than the seafood, and the seafood didn't taste as fresh and i would've liked. Everyone else ordered the short ribs which I was pretty jealous of. The meat fell off the bone and it looked way better than my seafood paella. The waitstaff was great in refilling waters and wine glasses. They were attentive and friendly which made our experience that much better. I would love to come back here in the summer and sit outside! Super cute place away from the main part of ridgewood!

I celebrated my anniversary at Cafe 37 and it was a wonderful experience. We dined during the week and enjoyed the prix fixe menu. The food was incredible with beautiful presentation. The servers were very attentive. Cafe 37 is BYOB so you can bring your own wine. We will definitely be back.

Consistently good. Outside seating in the tented area is wonderful on a comfortable night. Service was friendly and reliable. Crabcake special for an appetizer was tasty. Steak and snapper special for dinner were delicious. The star of the evening was the bananas foster bread pudding. I could have ordered a second one it was so good!!

Beautiful Table Setting With Top Notch Service!!

Held my husband's birthday celebration at Cafe 37 last week and could not be more thrilled with the food, service and beautiful setting. The staff was extremely attentive to every guest, the selected menu choices were beyond delicious and the owner stayed in constant contact to ensure all was perfect throughout the planning process...which was such a bonus! As long time customers of Cafe 37 we can't wait to return to this wonderful and welcoming establishment!! A Bergen County gem for sure!!

PEI Mussels and Manila Clams

Great upscale restaurant in Ridgewood offering a wide variety of menu options. I ordered from the prix fixed menu (4 courses for $54). I started off with the PEI Mussels and Manila Clams, which were pretty good and tasted fresh but were rather small in size. Then, the Kale Salad was also good, especially the toasted almonds, which added a nice and tasty crunch, and the pink grapefruit, which added some fruity sweetness. My main dish was the Sashimi Ahi Tuna with Risotto Milanese, which was great - the "black and blue" preparation was pretty unique and tasty, as the outer edges of the tuna got seared with some pepper along the edges while the center of each piece remained as raw sashimi. That being said, the tuna pieces were a bit small. The risotto part of the dish was very tasty too. For dessert, I got the Fallen Chocolate Cake, which was pretty small as well but rich and soft/tasty. As a whole, I'd say the prix fixed menu was a pretty good deal, despite each of the four courses being somewhat small in size. The place itself is a nice fine dining, white tablecloth with wine glasses kind of place, although there is technically no formal dress code (use your own judgement though). The staff were very friendly and the service speed was okay. I would recommend making a reservation on the weekends, because the place is not particularly big and it can fill up at peak hours. The noise level inside was moderate. The restaurant is right next to the new Ridgewood parking garage, which makes it a very convenient location. Overall, I would highly recommend Cafe 37 if you are looking for a nice place to celebrate a special occasion without going too over the top at a super pricey place.

Beyond exquisite. Each and every dish in this establishment is superb. The service is excellent. The ambience is romantic with quaint, lovely outdoor patio/seating area. Pleasant musical in the background. This place is magical.

A more upscale spot for nice occasions The food is great, especially the branzini, asian short ribs (very tender) and vegetarian entree and the desserts like fallen chocolate cake and bread pudding. (Small note: we ordered three vegetarian entrees and two came out the same but one of the choices was supposed to be different. We didn't want to complain because it was still really good.) The entrees are pretty good sized portions but the desserts are on the smaller side, though you can still share small bites. The entrees are around $30-40 generally and it's BYOB. The service was nice. The actual seating space is rather small, and the tables close together. When the tables are filled, the acoustics make it hard to hear what your companions are saying.

Octopus Appetizer

A fine dining restaurant in Ridgewood, serving delicious food with impeccable presentation and taste. We made our reservation ahead for Sunday dinner. When we arrived, we got seated right away. The restaurant wasn't busy, as only 3 other tables were occupied. Due to Covid their menu is online. It's a concise list with limited items in appetizers, entrees and desserts. We decided to try the Octopus appetizer, Bronzini and Seafood dishes for entree. The prep time was excellent , as we didn't have to wait long at all to get our food. We were very impressed with delicate presentation of each dish. All items including vegetables were cooked to perfection. This is an excellent spot for occasions like couples dinner, or milestones celebration. TL;DR: Food taste - 5/ 5 Food prep time - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Price - $$$$

First things first as I'm sure other reviewers have flagged but Lula is BYOB. We forgot that memo but luckily they partner up and recommend local wine / liquor distributors who are able and willing to swing down to the restaurant with a bottle of your favorite thing. Prices are high (on-par with what you'd expect from NYC fine dining) but the ambiance isn't stuffy and staff were kind, friendly and generally attentive. Note that the restaurant is generally loud (there is no music) so you might find yourself raising your voice to talk to your partner. The restaurant was completely busy so reservations are necessary though thankfully did not find it as competitive as NYC to get a prime-time Saturday night dinner reservation. The focaccia, a staple on Lula's menu, was excellent though I would do without the +$3 additional sardine sauce / accompaniment which I felt was unnecessary. The beef tartare was my personal favorite, light and delicious and a generous portion paired with the cream sauce and chips. We were generally satisfied by the time our entrees came out and I really enjoyed the salmon / fish dish they served along with the clams. Finishing with the Baked Alaska was also excellent (though not game-changing) and we enjoyed our time here. Would recommend a visit and think there's enough going on nearby to warrant a trip to Ridgewood, NJ regardless!

I don't even know what it was served over but it was some kind of shredded veg and covered in a delicious light savory sauce with a hint of sweetness which I just learned was from a "sweet drop pepper" garnish. I wish there were more of these cute little red gems! It was the first time anyone at our table saw them. It reminded me slightly of a slightly smoky ripe cherry tomato. Delicious!! I ate the almost the entire dish and ordered a side of truffle mashed potatoes. I was very satisfied with my main entree and the black truffle mashed were also delicious even though the chef didn't know what region they were from. (A truffle hunter told us to always ask the chef what region they are from to ensure they are authentic and not oil or fake lab grown because they have to certify the region they came from before exporting them.) TMI I know but if you're a foodie you might appreciate this knowledge. For appetizer, the table ordered the filet ravioli....I liked the Brown sauce and greenery it was served with but wish they included more green beans. The meat was cut in large pieces inside the ravioli and was very tender. It was unique. Save some bread for the sauce. Hub had the dry aged steak and thought it was too thin and meh for the price. He's picky AF so that that with a grain of salt. I think he was expecting the meat to be like Cafe panache or a steak house and it was not so he won't get that again. I didn't try it and I saw him get it down to the bone so I think he enjoyed it anyway. Dessert was a delish apple tart that was on fire with vanilla ice cream and garnished with delicious berries. There were a few chewy spots from the topping but I would absolutely get this again. The filling was perfect with sautéd apples with cinnamon. Be careful when taking your first bite!!! It's hot from the oven! Hub burnt his mouth. Regarding the service there are opportunities. First, it was extremely challenging to get a glass of water. Second, the first waiter forgot half the specials (but to be fair I forgot too because they were super complex and I can't even remember after eating it!!) The second waitress said all the specials and placed our order. I asked her for tap water that never came...asked again and after 30 min I asked again and this time a bottle of water came that was not tap water. Fine. I didn't send it back because I was so thirsty. This water ran out and then i finally got the tap water bottle from the guy but I could def taste the difference. If I come back again I'll will get the bottled water because something tasted off with the tap water. I wanted to ask for lemon to make it palatable but felt like I was being annoying because they were busy and it was impossible to get another refill. But it was getting late and they started clanking the silverware and turning up the lights and I'm sure everyone wanted to go home so that's fair. There was an amazing server that took the time to take multiple pictures of our group. He even stood on a chair to ensure we got a good shot. I appreciated this extra effort. For ambiance it's a nice place to go on a date or with a small group it kinda gave me NYC vibes as a nice lively atmosphere but it does get noisy and it can be hard to hear. I would have liked to hear the light French background music over the noise because you can hear it well in the restroom. Overall a lovely dining experience in NJ.

The restaurant is very pretty overall, though the interior is quite dim, making it difficult to read the menu without additional light. The tables were also placed fairly close together. Our server was polite and welcoming throughout the evening. We started with the Korean fried chicken and tuna tataki. The chicken was moist and coated in a sweet and spicy sauce. The tuna tataki was flavorful; however, the taro chips were very thin and tended to break easily when holding the tuna. For our main courses, we ordered the Icelandic cod, rigatoni, Freebird chicken, and a side of whipped potatoes. Dessert was the hazelnut chocolate crunch, which was a nice way to end the meal. Overall, the food was enjoyable. That said, the pricing felt more in line with a fine dining experience, while the atmosphere and service were closer to an upscale casual restaurant. Some small details, such as the whipped potatoes being served without a serving spoon, stood out. While minor, these details can make a difference, especially at this price point.

We stopped in mid-week for a family dinner after work and even on a Wednesday the place was buzzing. The restaurant itself is pretty tiny, which makes for a cozy atmosphere but also means tables are very close together. If you can, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The menu is somewhat minimal, but the food overall was good. I eat gluten-free and noticed the options were a bit limited, which made ordering slightly challenging. I ended up going with the sea scallops. They were nicely cooked, but the portion was smaller than I expected--five small scallops with some vegetables. For the price, I do wish the portion had been a bit more generous. I have to admit I left still a little hungry. My dad ordered the short rib grilled cheese and really enjoyed it. That was probably the standout dish at our table. My sister ordered the honey bourbon chicken and said it was okay, but afterward she mentioned she probably should have gone with the short rib grilled cheese instead. One surprise of the night was live music on a Wednesday. I usually enjoy live music, but since we were hoping to catch up as a family it made conversation a little difficult. The music was fairly loud for such a small space. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. They also have a rewards program, which worked out nicely--my dad received a complimentary dessert for his birthday. I ordered the crème brûlée, which was a great way to end the meal. A couple practical tips: parking in Ridgewood can be tricky. The restaurant advertises valet parking, though we didn't use or see it during our visit. If you find street parking, make sure to feed the meter because the town is known for giving out tickets. In warmer months they do offer some outdoor sidewalk seating, though it looks fairly limited. It also appears they have a happy hour, though we didn't arrive in time to try it. Overall, I'd recommend checking out Steel Wheel Tavern--just be mindful of the timing of your visit, especially if you're hoping for a quieter dinner.

The truffle grilled cheese could be skipped if you don't like an overwhelming truffle taste. And I've had better crab cakes but it was by no means bad. For entrees, my party of 3 split everything. We had the lamb chops, the scallops, the duck, butternut squash ravioli, and 2 lobster tail accompaniments along with a side of brussel sprouts. Each thing was better than the next. My favorite dish was actually the ravioli. Very creative flavors. For dessert, we had a toffee cake/pudding, peanut butter mousse, and scoops of brown butter and vanilla ice cream.
