We arrived a little early and started our evening at the bar, which turned out to be such a great way to begin our experience. Evan was so much fun and incredibly knowledgeable, giving us detailed descriptions of the cocktails and taking the time to tell us about the menu and seasonal offerings. Once we were seated, the wonderful service continued with our terrific waiter, and we were also warmly greeted by one of the owners. The food was absolutely delicious! We had the cabbage, which was cooked to perfection, the romaine salad, pork, and ravioli--everything was excellent. Heh, I had resolved not to review Adelaide after a wacky train wreck of a meal. After all, mistakes happen. However, Steve M.'s account really struck a chord with me and I think he's got a point. The facts of the visit were objectively poor - during appetizers our table runner dropped a water bottle, smashing our food and dumping water all over. THEN the next course was not as described - we ordered the controversial anchovy pasta, were warned that it was very "fish forward," but when it came it seemed to have zero anchovies in it. We asked a server if it was the right dish, she took it back, and then a chef(?) visited and said they'd take it off the bill. We didn't get to eat it! So, that's two courses in a row that were botched, and then to be fair they did manage to serve us a decent steak and comp us a dessert. Steve objects to a similar bad night and says that "'I am sorry' goes a long way in the service industry." This was the aspect that really bugged us as well, that while this was all unfolding a lot of the people who interacted with us (including a co-owner!) just wouldn't acknowledge how crazy it was that we were having such a bad experience. The person who talked to us about the pasta in particular really offended because she acted like we just didn't like the dish, even though we had already explained that it seemed to be made wrong. And yeah, they made the table runner come out at the end and personally apologize, and he seemed like a sweet young person, but at the risk of sounding implacable I don't think that's what most people would want. It was the weird refusal of *everybody else* to act normal that really creeped us out. Danny Meyer says that your favorite restaurant is the one that loves you the most, but when things go wrong Adelaide acts like you are the problem. read more

Adelaide is a welcome addition to the restaurants of the Pascack Valley. It exceeded my expectations based on customer reviews online. The architecture and interior design compliment the open kitchen concept, where I had a clear view of operations and found the line to be very calm and coordinated. I felt welcomed and cared for by the staff. Kudos to our server, Ryan, who did an exemplary job of sharing the menu highlights and ensuring that we had the best experience. He was attentive, but not overbearing. Another bright light is Sophia, who took the time to learn our names and show genuine interest in getting to know us. I ordered a specialty cocktail, Heart of Glass, which was smooth and complex with both sweet notes and a pleasantly bitter finish, while my husband ordered a scotch. And when they didn't have his preferred scotch, a suggestion was made by one of the hosts which matched the flavor profile that he prefers. We shared the Scarpinoc pasta, the Whole Branzino, and finished with the mozzarella ice cream for dessert, (not what you're expecting, but definitely something you're going to want to experience, with a custard-like consistency finished with honey, fruit, and a crumble.) There was a clear through way the entire meal of flavors that complimented each other. You can find descriptions of all 3 on the carefully curated menu online, which is limited to a dozen or so offerings. That said, the offerings are seasonal, so if you come at a different time of year, the menu may be different. They do have a wine list. However, patrons can bring their own wine, (If it is not on the menu) for an additional corkage fee. The pricing is very accurate and fair given the quality of the food and the overall experience. read more

Our whole experience was phenomenal! The food was expertly cooked and you could tell there was a lot of thought behind every dish. Highly recommend the Yellow Watermelon and Halibut. It's also clear that the staff has been upping their game, as the service was seamless and the timing was excellent. I also suffer from a few serious food allergies, and the team did an amazing job making sure there was no cross contamination or any issues with dishes (which is something I really appreciate!) Had a wonderful dining experience tonight at Adelaide . From top to bottom , every aspect of the experience was superb. First off , the restaurant is beautiful, with a sophisticated vibe and a fun music set list. No expense was spared . Sat at the bar (reservation required) , had well crafted innovative cocktails . We had an aloha Negroni and French 75. Both were exquisite.The bartender was engaging and knowledgeable. Shared the Johnnycake appetizer which was outstanding . Entrees of halibut and pork cutlet were equally delicious. The Som helped select wines to be paired with each entree , which was appreciated. Had dessert and a digestif in the upstairs room which was the perfect way to cap off a nice meal . We appreciated the owner's wife who stopped by to ask about our experience. There are just a handful of outstanding restaurants in Bergen County and now Adelaide joins that list ! read more

I'm a big foodie from a restaurant owning family that has been in the NY/NJ food scene for 30 years. This place is a gem. Annie, James and Ellie served us today and this was our second visit to this establishment. We like to try things a couple of times before judging and the level of thought, care and experience put into the menu and cocktails is levels above what we've experienced in this area. We are regulars at Saddle River Inn, Roots, Varka, Hudson House, etc. and we love this place. It will be our go-to for date nights and special occasions going forward. Bravo to the owner and staff. Adelaide is a refreshing addition to Bergen County, and specifically to Woodcliff Lake and the area. With about two months under its belt, I do think it's important to give them grace as they continue to work out their kinks. I would give them a strong 3.5. We quickly learned that the menu is consistently being updated to reflect seasonality. Our appetizers were the standouts compared to the entrees and desserts, but you live and learn. Our waiter was incredibly eager and excited about the menu. We look forward to seeing how this restaurant continues to bloom in the future! read more

Very much enjoyed our night out at Adelaide. It's very new and our service was great and the food was well executed. We ordered the steak, the pork chop, the stracciatella along with the focaccia, and the ravioli. Everything was good but I very much enjoyed the rhubarb stracciatella with the focaccia, reminded me of my grandmother own preparation. Also nice, the space is gorgeous, the staff was pleasant and the drinks delicious. Ignore the Nay-sayers with an axe to grind (pretty sure they all shared a table and just want to complain). Anyone who goes to upscale restaurants regularly won't be shocked by the pricing. I'm going 5 stars because they just opened and are already operating at a high level. read more

My husband and I dined at Adelaide a few weeks ago on a rainy Saturday at 7pm. When you walk in, the vibe is clear: a beautiful marble bar, open kitchen, and a chic upstairs lounge that overlooks the dining room. It feels very NYC, but is cozy and unpretentious. We were seated in a corner booth with a great view of the lower dining room and kitchen. Our server was attentive without hovering -- she walked us through the menus, then gave us space to settle in. Even as tables were still being sat at 9pm, we never once felt rushed. Now, the food. We started with the homemade focaccia with leek honey butter and little gem salad. The bread was light with just the right amount of olive oil, and the salad was a perfect crisp accompaniment. I considered asking if I could buy a jar of the butter to take home but refrained. Onto the pasta - we had the duck cappelletti, short rib agnolotti, and ravioli. Each dish was distinct and thought-through in a way that's hard to pull off. The ravioli in particular was something I'm still thinking about -- somehow rich and light, with a sauce I also considered asking to take home. (I'm pregnant and have lost all sense of shame around food. But it was warranted.) The steak and scallops followed and were equally excellent, though by that point our stomachs had limits so we took half the steak to go. We should have been done. We weren't done. The dessert menu arrived and with it: a chocolate cake with I believe fennel frosting or fennel whipped cream. I almost asked for a slice to take home along with my butter and ravioli sauce. Adelaide is a gem, and a welcome addition to the Bergen County dining scene. Go soon, go often, and go hungry. read more

Was recommending this place to a friend when I noticed the seemingly low rating on yelp. Absolutely not! This restaurant blew it out of the water for me and my daughter celebrating the end of the school year. Having recently moved to woodcliff lake from Brooklyn, I was pleasantly surprised to find an NYC caliber restaurant just down the block. It's gorgeous, the staff were exceptional, the drinks were delicious and the food was refined and elegant with surprising twists along with the way. The server did not quote the price of the Special lamb neck bones which we had 2 orders - $115 each. It was all bone, fat & very little meat - inedible! Mgr saw dishes were untouched & took one off bill. The duck leg was good but was missing duck fat potatoes that the server mentioned. Chocolate cake good. Wine pours small for the price. Tremendously disappointing. The food was good, the service was not. We waited 90 minutes for our entrees and I believe the only reason we got anything was because we asked about it (the two tables next to us who arrived after us both were served more than 30 minutes before we got our food). I am aware it is a new resteraunt...losing my ticket is not the issue. I have been working in and with resteraunts for 30 years - it is the response that was the issue. 'I am sorry' goes a long way in the service industry. My wife and I spent almost $300 for dinner - I expect to be treated like I matter. Instead I was treated llike a disposable entity. Niether the manager nor the Chef came over to apologize for forgetting our food. A simple acknowledgement was all I was looking for and should be the minimum response. Instead of accepting any responsibility for what happened, when I spoke to the chef (benefits of an open kitchen) on the way out, he made excuses and invited me to NOT to eat at his resteraunt again - that was fine as a place with such inherint and endemic issues (failure to take responsibility for mistakes and being too thin skinned to address your failures) means a short future for them. I ate at this restaurant this past weekend and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. Service was extremely slow -- it took about 90 minutes for the main course to come out. What made it worse was that the table next to us ordered the exact same dish after we did, yet they received their food first, finished their entire meal, and we were still waiting. We mentioned this to our waiter, who did bring over substitute dish while waiting with a brief apology, but the situation still wasn't really addressed. By the time our actual food finally arrived, I was no longer hungry and asked to have it packed to take home. This would have been the perfect opportunity for management to stop by, acknowledge what happened, and offer a genuine apology. That's really all we were looking for -- some explanation and recognition of the issue. Surprisingly, no one from management ever came over with that. Overall, the lack of communication, explanation and accountability made this an experience I wouldn't want to repeat. read more

We had an absolutely terrible experience here. We had to ask for a second drink because no one came back to our table, we had to ask for the bill. And I could have excused all of that...but it was some of the worst food we've ever had. Four of us had dinner together, two got the risotto which was inedible it was just rice sitting in broth. One of us got the steak which was enough to feed a 3 year old child. And the last person got the linguine which was average at best. And I could have been slightly less offended by the food if it was plated beautifully....but there was nothing pretty about how the food arrived to the table, literally just plopped in bowls. We went to adelaide and really wanted to love it. The drinks were great but the food was overpriced and honestly the quality wasn't there. A sharable small portion of risotto was $30. It had pork in it, not truffles. Bread is an additional charge. We got the pork shoulder special to be shared and when the bill Came it was $130 for a pork shoulder. We weren't told the price and didn't think to ask as most mains were 30-40$ and it was a pork shoulder. Please look up the current price of that per pound. We were shocked- especially because the preparation was a bit different than what we were told. In the end we spoke to the manager who said they would refund for the dish. All in all, this felt like a big miss. The renovation was beautiful but the cost and quality for the food unfortunately wasn't there read more
