Breakfast burrito (available only on Thu).
    Phong D.

Open 24 hours. Great options for breakfast, lunch and dinner at a reasonable price. For breakfast there's an omelette station. Since I'm usually in a rush I'll either go for a breakfast sandwich or a scoop of Denver eggs (scrambled eggs with ham, cheese, and some veggies) and home fries. The oatmeal is a healthier option, appropriately thick, pairs well with the self-serve brown sugar and dried cranberries but often leaves me hungry. For lunch I love the pasta bar. Imagine penne, huge chunks of garlic, shrimp, and a white sauce being prepared in a wok - yum! Fortunately I haven't had too many dinners at the cafeteria and can't think of anything that really stands out. However, a hidden gem is the lamb curry that occasionally makes an appearance around 2am. I dare say it's the BEST curry in Portland! Image meaty chunks of lamb that's slightly fatty, wading in thick, flavorful curry and sitting on a bed of white rice. You must try the lamb curry! You may or may not break out into a Bollywood dance. You will get acid reflux 6 hours later - confirmed by multiple general surgery residents.

Gourmet style French Toast with Fresh Fruit...from....a Hospital Cafeteria?
    Brian N.

One of the only hospital's I've ever been to that puts healthy food as a priority. It makes sense that if a hospital is a place where your ills are supposed to be made better that the food it serves should help to do the same. So many hospitals will serve you absolute crap as a means to simply sustain people, but OHSU's cafeteria does an extraordinary job of providing fresh food with seasonal ingredients. All hamburgers are made with 100% grass fed beef and they're affordable. The cafeteria tries to source locally as much as possible. Grill items are made to order, and it takes a little more time, but you know you're getting served quality food. Lots of healthy options and the salad bar provides a wealth of actually tasty alternatives to meat. Sushi and vegan options available with both hot and cold items. Dreyer's soft serve machine.

I love how there was plenty of seating all around - no accidentally bumping into someone else while walking around and exploring all the food options! There were hightops, larger tables for groups of 10+ people or for communal seating, and bar seating at some of the vendors too. The space can also be rented out for private parties, etc. The water stations were scattered thoughtfully around the dining areas so you don't need to go far for water or bussing your table. The bathrooms were reasonably clean as well (with a key code - ask at any vendor to get it). I would come back again to try more food - it's a welcoming space. I got Shanghai's Best and was too full to try Lil' Funky Donuts.

This visit, the selection was a bit limited and the wait times can be a bit long so if you're paying for parking, make sure to add a bit extra time to avoid rushing your meal. As for the food, I got the spicy garlic ramen with the keto noodles from MATSUNOKI RAMEN. Pretty sure not gluten free, so if you are a gf friend, not the place for you. If you can stand a bit of it, the soup really hit the spot and had a good heat to it. The noodles were not great, had become a ball. The meat in the soup was minimal and more friend bacon than what I'm used to in ramen. The serving size was pretty substantial. If you're in the area with a large group this could be a good place to go.

With the plethora of eats to choose from, a friendly/efficient staff and service, and in or outdoor seating available, Elephants Delicatessen is a spot that's a must visit when you're in this fun city! There are multiple counters for different types of food. There's a sandwich/soup station, a pizza station, a hot foods station (for burgers & specialties), a cold deli station for cold salads/sides, and a bar/barista inside for adult beverages or coffee. Additionally, there's an area to purchase bottled wine and jams/jellies. Grab whatever items you order and pay at the register. If you order from a station, bring your ticket with you as that's where you get charged. Pretty much any type of deli flavor you're looking for, you can find it here. Some of my favorites involve the following: -Teriyaki Chicken Wings -Curried Chickpea Salad -Reuben Sandwich -Tomato Bisque -Corn & Crab Chowder -Broccoli Salad -Turkey and Avocado Sandwich -Pizza Slices (All of them!) I'm sure there's plenty of items I'm missing but those are the ones that stood out to me since I've eaten them multiple times. The staff is very helpful and move efficiently with all the orders flying around. As for seating, there's plenty of seating indoors or you can sit on the patio area outside. Also kid friendly too if you've got the little ones with you. One of Portland's finest eating spots!

I have been wanting to come here for years. Yes years. In my family, we don't really go to brunch…read moreor even breakfast too often. You can tell from my yelp reviews, I don't really have a lot of breakfast reviews. But I had this saved as a must try and it is in NE and not far from our place. So this morning when hubs said our pregnant daughter was coming over for breakfast I jumped at the chance to suggest this spot. In case you don't read the rest of my review, I wanted to comment that the service was really great here and I am pretty sure the nice guy in the front was the owner, but I could be wrong. There was another guy working as well when two of us arrived and the rest were parking and he told us which table would be ours but that we should wait and all order together. But he was really great because when he saw the place start to get busy he reminded us of our table in the corner, kinda letting us know so it wouldn't get snatched. So that earned points in book. The menu is brunchy in that it is a prix fix breakfast menu for $28.50 and there are 3 columns with 4-5 choices. Drinks, savory and sweet items. Boozy drinks are about $10-15 extra. There is also drinking chocolate, teas, coffee or juice. (Orange and grapefruit). The girls said the orange juice was really good. But I can't drink citrus and drinking chocolate would've been too heavy for me, so I opted for coffee. This is the only column that I could take or leave. Savory - all of us I think had something different and not one item was bad. I opted for the popcorn chicken and cheesy grits and it came with a poached egg that had a beautiful gooey egg yolk in the middle. The chicken was crispy and cooked to a crispy perfection on the outside but tender and juicy on the inside. The grits were so yummy and creamy as well. *chefs kiss* My hubs ordered the buttermilk biscuits with chorizo gravy and that was also a stellar choice. I had a bite and the biscuits were crisp on the outside and the gravy with the chorizo had such good flavor. Sweet - I had the Tres Leches French toast and once again, it was perfectly crisp on the outside and cooked to perfection on the inside with what I assume was a tres leches condensed milk concoction. It came with some berries and cream drizzled around it was perfect. My hubs had the graham cracker waffles and I am going to say it again, crispy and golden on the outside and cooked perfectly. I didn't eat any of the other items that everyone else ordered, like the baked egg and potatoes or the crepes, so I cannot comment on them, but I did take photos to share. But there are so many photos already I doubt mine offer anything new. I'm not usually a breakfast or brunch person but this was really good. 10/10 delicios on every single item and this place gets 6 stars out of 5.

French toast was also up there- but I did wish there was syrup for it. Staff was very friendly and helpful, even with the preset menu, you can still order a la carte too. Shop is cozy and there's an area on the counter by the window with the cream, sugar, and condiments (ketchup, tapatio, etc) which I didn't realize at first.

Their simple staples, like pasta with sauce, beans and rice, and salad bar are bland as can be; on the other hand, their entrees and soups are generally over-flavored (mostly with pepper), enough to make you a little queasy trying to figure out what's in there. They also seem to enjoy cramming mock meat into every dish imaginable. It ranges from logical (tofu in a Chinese dish) to bizarre (tofu in Indian food, the cuisine I count on to be pretty soy-free). On the plus side, the grill will make a wide variety of things to order: ie, only a basic quesadilla is listed on their menu, but they'll put anything they have on hand in there for you, like chicken strips, tomatoes, spinach, onions, french fries, etc. They also make a pretty good over-easy egg. If you, for some reason, must eat here, try the macaroni and cheese (every Monday night, hopefully still the schedule this year), beans and rice with a generous sprinkling of the hot sauce of your choice, or customizing something at the grill. I also hear that the hot turkey sandwich (lunch only) is also excellent. I'd avoid the soups, most of the nightly specials, and anything over-represented on the Scrounge table (a place to put food that you don't want to eat, so that people without a board plan can eat for free). I don't know if this is good or bad but: I rely on them for food during most of the academic year. Last year, I lost over 10 pounds between September and May. I was not trying to lose weight. I was just eating here.

"Well worth the drive and the cost. A good buffet. M-Th dinner $21.99. Weekend $23.99.See photos…read moreand read below." (long review warning) I wanted to find a Chinese buffet in the area like ones we found in Arizona before Covid. We have tried a couple in Salem, and they are decent. But the local establishments created a desire to expect more. Because of the other reviews of Super King Buffet, I wanted to find out for myself if the negative /positive reviews aligned with my taste preferences and expectations. The appearance of the building outside is unremarkable. Inside, the place is extremely clean. Our server provided a table and our drinks quickly. Looking around, the empty tables were clean along with the floor of the establishment. A diverse culture of people was in attendance enjoying their meals, piled high with shrimp, open face clams, or crab. Others took a moderate approach, with a medium amount of food on their plate, but returned to the buffet line multiple times. I would suggest that before rushing off to the buffet selections, grabbing a plate and maxing out the square footage the plate can handle, just walk slowly up and down the many food stations and soak in the large variety of food options. There were 6 main stations. An additional two or three stations had fish on ice, and sushi. Dessert options: I do not remember other that my wife getting the soft served ice cream. They offer coffee, tea, and Pepsi products. The restaurant was busy, but the food options were always replenished, and the serving areas were kept extremely clean. I was amazed at the selection options. Other buffet restaurants may have a decent seafood selection but miss enough variety if one does not want seafood or other items not offered. But the selection also needs to taste according to one's expectation. I was pleased with all that I consumed. The hot food items were hot. The cold items were cold. The noodles and rice options met expectations of good Chinese buffets. Spring rolls were hot inside and crunchy outside and tasty. All the deep-fried foods I tried such as the butterfly shrimp, sweet/sour chicken, and crab wontons did not have any old oil after taste. This was a pleasant surprise. However, there were some disappointments in our food selections that night. For my taste (personal preferences), I disliked the coating on the chicken legs compared to other Chinese buffet restaurants. It seemed like they used the same coating they used on the fried fish. Then the salmon was dry. This is a problem at more than one restaurant; we have visited beyond a Chinese buffet environment. Good news is that all the shrimp selections are well cooked, not over cooked. Refills for our drinks and removing our used plates were faster than expected. My wife and I could not sample every item with just one visit, but we ate our usual favorites and except for the few discrepancies, we were incredibly pleased with this establishment. Is this an elegant restaurant environment with a salad bar option? No. But for a Chinese buffet, it delivers.
