This Old Corbett Fish House has a great vibe and unique classic Portland feel. They appear to have everything you want in a good cafe and more! WiFi with lots of plugs, a great selection of various coffee as well as uncaffeinated drinks, pastries, delicious food selections, and even art on the walls. One side of the restaurant even has a bar I was excited to see the Lox served with herb goat cheese mousse on como bread instead of the standard cream cheese which I can't eat. With an ample serving of salmon it was just what I wanted for breakfast while visiting the Pacific Northwest. My friend got the Avocado toast which consisted of two open faced slices of bread with avocado sprinkled with flavorful herbs and chili flakes. I couldn't believe it was only 11.50 ! Both were served with arugula my favorite leafy green!! Instead of coffee, I tried a Mahsa Chai for the first time. No hemp milk, so I got almond which made it taste less spice-y than I expected. Claiming to be zero calories, zero sugar, zero jitters, it was a nice mellow, calming alternative to coffee with a ton of ingredients that I like! Super cute neighborhood spot that we've been wanting to try, and we finally did for a Sunday brunch. Limited indoor seating so we snagged an outdoor table. Unfortunately the umbrellas do little to block late morning sun so bring your shades and hats! Lots of families and dogs around. Service was hit or miss. Even though we ordered roughly the same time, our friend's order came out immediately whereas we waited so long for ours (even checked to make sure it wasn't sitting somewhere getting cold) that she was done with her food by the time ours arrived. Not ideal. It's also the reason I didn't take photos for the first time! We were famished. Food wise, everyone was very pleased with the savory orders. She had a bowl and we had the biscuits and gravy. Both incredibly delicious and good value for the size. Unfortunately we also got the Belgian waffle which was a huge miss. It was neither fluffy, nor thick, nor crispy. Instead it was rather chewy, as if the batter had been overmixed, and instead of a berry compote as advertised it came with those Welches jelly peel packs. Usually the dessert wraps up a nice meal but in this case it was completely disappointing. Street parking only but not hard to find a spot. As a daily regular at JoLa for over a decade, I'm incredibly saddened by the recent changes here. What used to keep me coming back every single morning was the outstanding staff consistency and the warm, community-driven service. Lately, the energy has shifted. There has been a rapid turnover of the team, and without any of the familiar, long-term staff members who built those customer relationships, the welcoming environment is gone. While the current staff tries their best, the overall customer experience has suffered. After 10 years of loyal daily visits, the lack of consistency has finally pushed me to find a new daily cafe. ****My previous detailed review was taken down. It's incredibly disappointing to see a business I supported for years choose to silence feedback rather than address it. A very nice laid back Cafe just across from the Willamette river.....cozy beach town feel. Smoothies, some baked goods....you can review the menu. Some outdoor seating in a pretty nice neighborhood. Bonus, they have adult drinks! A great place for a stop to grab a coffee/smoothie and a bite. We wanted a cute brunch spot before starting our day, and JoLa Café ended up being the perfect choice! We looked at the menu beforehand and loved all of the breakfast sandwich options. The drink menu had a little bit of everything: coffee, cocktails, and smoothies. While the menu leans more savory, they also have a bakery section with pastries, sweets, and yogurt options. There was an impressive amount of seating, which is surprisingly hard to find, the staff was incredibly friendly, and the whole café had such a welcoming vibe. JoLa has become one of my favorite places to spend time in. The Mahsa Chai is hands down my favorite drink anywhere, and the chicken pesto sandwich is one of those menu items I find myself craving throughout the week. Over the past weeks, I've actually found the atmosphere to be warmer, and more welcoming, and full of positive energy. Like any small business, transitions happen, but what matters to me is the experience I have every time I walk through the door. I've consistently been greeted with kindness, great coffee, and people who genuinely seem to care about creating a place where customers want to stay awhile. One of the things I love most about JoLa is that it feels like a true neighborhood café. Local artists are featured on the walls, it's a wonderful place to settle in and work for a few hours, and there's a real sense of community that you don't find in many coffee shops anymore. More than anything, it's obvious that the owner and management care deeply about the customer experience. They put a tremendous amount of heart into this place, and it shows in the details... from the quality of the food and drinks to the welcoming atmosphere they've created. I'm another previous regular saddened by the changes at Jola Cafe. For years it was well managed by a man named Zach, who made sure it had good service and a warm community feel. Ever since he left, they seem to have a lot of turnover. The people working at the counter, often seem frazzled and irritated and actually make comments to the effect that I should comment another time (to order a burrito? ) because they're busy or otherwise inconvenienced. They mix up orders and then act like it's your fault. They have a few dishes I like, so I come back occasionally to order them, but whenever I do, I brace myself for bad service, and they almost always deliver. This place needs a good general manager. read more

Wow really loved this spot in John's Landing. I'm never in the area so was surprised to see a place that had such a large indoor area but with plenty of picnic tables outside. I went with a friend and seems like they recently expanded the place. We ordered the corned beef hash and matcha waffles to share. Can't have brunch without some drinks and I enjoyed the chai and vanilla lattes here. Surprisingly the food came out pretty quickly and it was so easy to dig in! I enjoyed the corned beef hash because the potatoes had a nice crunch, some spice with the bell peppers, and thick chunks of meat. The matcha waffles were a nice sweet option to get as they put all the sides of whipped cream, butter, jam, and syrup. They were just slightly dry though so I probably wouldn't get them again. Overall, the food menu has a nice mix of sweet and savory. However, if you don't want a full entree be sure to check out their pastry case or specials board! read more

Visiting from St. Louis, and based on really nothing decided to try this place. Wow what a freakishly cozy, and welcoming spot! Ambience for days, and great coffee! Were I a neighborhood local I would come here all the time, but not for the sub par baked goods which really seem like Sysco food service type stuff (yes, mealy crumbly and oversized biscuit my wife was disappointed by, I'm looking at you!) I got an Avocado sandwich both times and seemingly that may be the best breakfast option on the menu. It was really good, could have benefited from some better produce ingredients though. So definitely a place worth stopping in for, (seemed very Portland or at least PNW to this flatlander) but the food is just ok. read more

This place is in such a cute location -- right next to the beautiful Willamette Park. I came in and ordered their chai because it was recommended to me, but honestly, it was super disappointing. It wasn't even good enough to be called chai. It tasted like watered-down milk with barely any spice or flavor -- definitely not the bold, authentic chai I'm used to. It seemed like it came from a concentrate that was too diluted, and then they just added a splash of milk. I really don't even know if it qualifies as chai. That said, I did have the brownie, and it was rich, fudgy, and delicious -- definitely the highlight of my visit. Overall, I'll probably come back because the location and vibe are great, but next time, I'll be skipping the chai. read more

Love this neighborhood cafe slash bistro in a historic building based in Johns Landing. Cozy, upscale and friendly... and I like that the space seems to transform over the course of the day. Coffee is excellent; they use one of the best local roasters in Portland. Pastries are scrumptious! And the menu is deep enough to offer options without making you feel overwhelmed. Random note of appreciation: the bathroom doesn't have a code. That is a rarity in Portland these days. The WiFi can be spotty at times... that's my only feedback for improvement. The outdoor area is lovely in the summer! Too bad it's overcast in Portland over half of the year I like that the management keeps tinkering with the hours to make it optimal for the customer base. They serve full on breakfast on one side and smaller quick portions on the cafe side. Wait staff are great on the cafe side! One of the best cafes I've been to in terms of quality and variety of foods and drinks! This place is in a peaceful neighborhood of John's Landing. From the outside it may seem like a small spot but I was surprised how much seating there was inside with multiple floors! The vibe inside is very cozy and spacious. I opted to dine in so they called out your name once your drink was ready and then brought the food out to you wherever you're sitting afterwards. The cappuccino was made quickly and it was delicious! I also got the Belmont burrito which had egg, potatoes, avocado, black beans, arugula, and cheese. It was super tasty and filling! Enjoyed a good dose of Portlandian spring air this morning at JoLa Café. Selected "The Country" burrito but had it as a bowl instead of a wrap. Very good and I will probably steal their cool idea of green chili sour cream! The salsa was also homemade with flecks of fresh cilantro and onion, it was very delicious. To wash this down I had an iced mocha which was equally primo, and I wish I would've requested a larger size. My brunch partner liked the sausage egg croissant sandwich and commented that the tomato jam made it taste unique. I noted a lot of adult bevs on the menu including mimosas, Irish coffee, hot toddy, and bloody Mary's. This is a neighborhood gem in Corbett, I loved how it was off Macadam just enough so as not to hear the traffic. It's quiet and peaceful outside the cafe. My go-to coffee spot is also a legitimately solid lunch destination, with a good selection of fresh, generously-portioned bowls, salads, sandos and burritos to go along with your Americano or latte. The space is choppy - three separate rooms actually - but it's still a quite airy and spacious space with good light and a chill vibe if you just wanna come work on your laptop. There's usually local art on the walls, various magazines to read, and a couple of outside tables if you're so inclined. They have smoothies and pastries too and the service is always prompt - and with a smile. I feel like it's a great community gathering spot too, with a really down-to-earth atmosphere. It is another dark and rainy day in Portland! This little cafe is so sweet. I was in the area and wanted a little treat. I had a good feeling before I walked in. It's very cozy and inviting. I got a breakfast sandwich. Egg, cheddar, avocado, on gluten-free bread. Every breakfast sandwich comes with their homemade tomato jam. It was fabulous! My fiancé got egg, cheddar, bacon, on a croissant. I also got the macaroon from the pastry counter. I've been here quite a few times. Today for Sunday Brunch I had my fav so far. Corned Beef hash that was like perfectly designed for me! Fewer potatoes than most which was perfect and then on a bed of fresh arugula and lots of tasty corned beef with a lovely poached egg on top. I almost didn't order as thought it would be a typical potato mash up. But no, it was the best and semi-healthiest one Ive ever had. The service was super pleasant and food served quickly. Came here with a group of friends and so got to try a lot of items. The best way to explore a new restaurant, if you ask me! The mushroom and feta toast was insanely delicious! I would come back just for that. It was zippy, earthy, salty, crunchy, soft... it was everything. I was sad I wasn't the person who ordered it, so I only got one bite. Food envy for sure! But that's the only thing I'd come back for. The Belgian waffle was just a sad naked waffle with a side of syrup and a side of butter. Expected more of a presentation, to be quite honest. My friend was disappointed. My other friend got the house benedict and it was overly sweet. I'm not the person to ask about benes because I generally don't like them, but we all agreed it was too much on the sweet side for our tastes. I got some kind of veggie breakfast bowl and it was good but pretty boring. I was definitely grateful for the large number of hot sauces they offered, because I needed a bit of zest! read more
