OHSU also has a more "fancy" cafe on the 9th floor which was closed the 2 times we went to check it out. They close at 2pm which is lame. They have better food I'm assuming. It was a let down for now, hopefully the food court people can hire and cook better quality food like before. The lobster mac and cheese and their chili was the most decent thing we tried. My mother ordered the meatloaf and some other pork dish from the hospital room menu and liked it, there was a steak dish she ordered that she sent back.

With the plethora of eats to choose from, a friendly/efficient staff and service, and in or outdoor seating available, Elephants Delicatessen is a spot that's a must visit when you're in this fun city! There are multiple counters for different types of food. There's a sandwich/soup station, a pizza station, a hot foods station (for burgers & specialties), a cold deli station for cold salads/sides, and a bar/barista inside for adult beverages or coffee. Additionally, there's an area to purchase bottled wine and jams/jellies. Grab whatever items you order and pay at the register. If you order from a station, bring your ticket with you as that's where you get charged. Pretty much any type of deli flavor you're looking for, you can find it here. Some of my favorites involve the following: -Teriyaki Chicken Wings -Curried Chickpea Salad -Reuben Sandwich -Tomato Bisque -Corn & Crab Chowder -Broccoli Salad -Turkey and Avocado Sandwich -Pizza Slices (All of them!) I'm sure there's plenty of items I'm missing but those are the ones that stood out to me since I've eaten them multiple times. They also seem to enjoy cramming mock meat into every dish imaginable. It ranges from logical (tofu in a Chinese dish) to bizarre (tofu in Indian food, the cuisine I count on to be pretty soy-free). On the plus side, the grill will make a wide variety of things to order: ie, only a basic quesadilla is listed on their menu, but they'll put anything they have on hand in there for you, like chicken strips, tomatoes, spinach, onions, french fries, etc. They also make a pretty good over-easy egg. If you, for some reason, must eat here, try the macaroni and cheese (every Monday night, hopefully still the schedule this year), beans and rice with a generous sprinkling of the hot sauce of your choice, or customizing something at the grill. I also hear that the hot turkey sandwich (lunch only) is also excellent. I'd avoid the soups, most of the nightly specials, and anything over-represented on the Scrounge table (a place to put food that you don't want to eat, so that people without a board plan can eat for free). I don't know if this is good or bad but: I rely on them for food during most of the academic year. Last year, I lost over 10 pounds between September and May. I was not trying to lose weight. This look like a little bigger buffet than some we've been to. Lot of different seafood options for dinner. They even have crawdads. Too much work for too little meat in my opinion, but that's just me. Inside is decently clean and the buffet lines are not all messed up by rude customers like I've seen other places. We all got our fill and were in and out in less than an hour. Price was around $25 per person including a soft drink and a little tip.

I ordered the Danish pancakes (Æbleskiver), and they were absolutely delicious. They came with house-made lemon curd and lingonberry jam, and both were incredible. The lemon curd was rich and creamy with just the right amount of tartness, while the lingonberry jam added a sweet-tart flavor that paired perfectly with the fluffy pancakes. Four of them were more than enough to fill me up. My husband ordered the Pytt i Panna, a traditional Swedish hash made with crispy potatoes, bell peppers, and onions, topped with two soft-baked eggs and served with pickled beets and Nordic rye toast. It was hearty, comforting, and full of flavor. The pickled beets were a nice contrast to the savory hash, and everything on the plate was scrumptious! Between the delicious food, welcoming service, and dog-friendly patio, we had a very nice time and it was a good send-off before our walk through the woods to find Ole Bolle.
