Especially being a special need parent it's something that crosses my mind a lot, "what will my son have". The little small touches from art work, book selection and seating was special. What sealed the deal to make this one place that truly stands on its own was the Sunday Letter section. My gf and I have plans to write a letter this Sunday just to add it to their section. In which they let me know it's from another business but I forgot the name, however, really good donut. For our drinks, I got an iced pumpkin latte and my husband got a honey maple latte. Both were perfect. Generous amount and perfect sweetness! So there's a really cute library in the back that catches my attention. I immediately go there as we wait for our order and picked out a book that I immediately start to read. As I'm reading, the owner (wife of the guy I believe I met at the counter) says I can keep the book! Excuse me what?! I was so happy lol what a gem of a coffee shop. I'll be back to enjoy their other menu items as they also have warm breakfast items etc. Lastly, they also own Local Pie which is right next to it and it's also delish! Didn't even know it until I asked because the guy at the counter (so sorry I don't know his name) had a shirt on that said Local Pie. Anyway, go to both! You won't regret it.

Beyond the food and coffee, what makes it stand out is its mission of providing employment opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. You can see the staff puts a lot of care into everything they do, and it's also nice watching the coaches working alongside them, helping them learn and grow. The café is super clean, comfortable, and has TVs playing music and videos, making it a nice spot to slow down and enjoy breakfast. We tried the tequeños, a breakfast burrito, an iced café con leche, and an orange juice. Everything was really good. The only thing I would change is the orange juice. I personally would have preferred fresh squeezed instead of bottled, but everything else was great. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend stopping by. Later on we graduated to Luther's on Bird Road and 117th Avenue, and of course, Shorty's, the undisputed king that's been feeding hungry Miamians for generations. These days it seems like a new BBQ place opens every other week in South Florida. I recently tried one of the newer spots in South Miami... except when we got there they were out of half the menu. Nothing kills your BBQ excitement faster than hearing, "Sorry... we're out of brisket." That's like walking into Versailles and hearing they're out of croquetas. So when our friends Ana and Henry invited Betty and me to Smoke & Dough in Kendall, I was ready to get my BBQ on. We walked into this unassuming strip mall, I grabbed the menu, ready to order ribs or brisket... ...and then I saw it. The Pastrami Sandwich. Now THAT got my attention. Finding a really good pastrami sandwich down here isn't easy. Roasters 'N Toasters has a very good one. Lox of Bagels (what many of us still call Lox of Lox) makes a solid one too. But this one... This one beat them both by a mile. The meat was warm, juicy, incredibly flavorful, the cheese perfectly melted, the Thousand Island dressing was just the right amount, and the bread held everything together without falling apart after the second bite... a miracle in itself. And it wasn't one of those fancy little sandwiches you need a magnifying glass to find on the plate. This thing was substantial. I shared it with my wife... ...and I was full. ¡Y yo soy tremendo comelón! Our friends ordered the brisket empanadas, a quiche, and brisket sandwiches that looked absolutely outstanding. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked like somebody back there really cared about what they were serving. The atmosphere surprised me. Instead of feeling like an old-school BBQ joint with picnic tables and sauce bottles everywhere, it feels more like a cozy neighborhood bistro that just happens to know its way around a smoker. Comfortable, relaxed, and the kind of place where nobody is rushing you out the door because another party is waiting. They also have what looked like an excellent selection of wines and craft beers, which gives the place a slightly elevated feel without being pretentious. Now... everybody has been telling me about their famous **Smoked Flan Apparently it's slowly cooked on the barbecue pit for about five hours, giving the creamy custard and caramel a subtle smoky flavor. Believe me... I wanted to try it. But after that pastrami... Game over. There wasn't enough room left. The owners came over, introduced themselves, shared a little of the history behind Smoke & Dough, and made us feel genuinely welcome. Those little moments still matter. You leave feeling like they appreciate your business instead of treating you like the next number in line. Overall, we had a wonderful time. Good food. Great company. Friendly owners. A relaxed atmosphere where you actually want to stay awhile. After our last dining experience at another restaurant where we practically felt like they were timing us with a stopwatch, this was a refreshing change. Will I be back? Absolutely. Café Bea is a little gem we found near our home. It's very deceiving from the outside because you would never expect the incredible food they serve. The restaurant has social distancing, waitresses very attentive and following mask regulations. Customers must wear masks until at their table. Now once you've gotten past all this, you are in for quite a treat. The BEST croquettes I've ever had in my life!!!!! The salads are incredible!! Everything we ate was absolutely nothing short of gourmet meals, I highly recommended this little restaurant for brunch, even dinner. The menu choices are sure to surprise you and the food is absolutely delicious!!!! Love finding new places and more so supporting these restaurants during these difficult times. Excellent place for breakfast and brunch. I went on a Sunday morning and it was packed! That's exactly how you know if a place was good. I had their Huevos Rotos and french toast. It was great, the meat was juicy and fresh and very big portions. I ordered the Croque madam and I can't recommend them enough, it's super crunchy, the after taste was amazing. This place was family-friendly, pretty easy to find parking and everything tasted amazing when I went. The pricing was fair too. Dining here is greatly recommended. read more

The portion was surprisingly large, so I ended up eating half and taking the rest home. I also tried the beef plantain empanada, and honestly, you can't go wrong with that combination. The sweet plantain paired perfectly with the savory beef, creating the ideal balance of sweet and salty flavors. My boyfriend ordered the cheese arepa. It was good, but nothing out of this world compared to everything else we tried. For drinks, I had their cold brew made with 100% Colombian coffee. It was incredibly refreshing, and adding two pumps of pistachio syrup took it to another level. My boyfriend ordered the caramel frappe and really enjoyed it as well. One thing I loved was the atmosphere. The decor has a very Colombian feel, which gives the space a lot of character. There's plenty of seating, making it a great spot to study, work, or just hang out for a while. Overall, great food, great coffee, and a welcoming environment. I'd definitely recommend checking it out.
