My girlfriend and I waited most of the year to get a reservation here and we finally lucked out on…read moretheir last operating day of the holiday season. The Christy house has two seatings only on Fridays-one at 11 am and the other at 12:45 pm. I was fortunate enough the get the 12:45 time slot. Online reservations don't work. You actually need to call St Stephen's at the number given on their website. The Christie house sits in back of St. Stephen's on Frederick St in Sewickley. When we arrived the 11:00 group was still letting out but we waited patiently while they set up the tables for our sitting. The place was packed but the two of us were seated once we confirmed the reservation. Since this was their Christmas dinner every lady received a fake rose corsage to wear. A very nice touch! We were greeted by several volunteers who took our order and gave us each samples of their holiday spritzer. Although we were looking forward to hot tea the temperature was warm so we settled for ice tea. The dining room was enhanced with nice china, holiday linens and holiday decor on our serving plates. Today's menu which changes weekly consisted of butternut squash soup, lobster bisque, holiday green salad with roasted pork tenderloin. With the soup you can opt for a bowl of one or a cup of two. We decided to try everything so we chose the latter. The complete meal was served together. I could really enjoy the homemade taste of the butternut squash soup as well as the lobster bisque. The roll was tiny but just enough for a dainty meal. The pork was tender and the salad was good as well. When we were done they brought out a cookie tray with many duos of small cookies. I was tempted to eat them all but ate as many as I could. Baked fresh I got filled up on these faster than the main course. We were given a basket to pay our check-cash only accepted. $12.00 per person. That's a real deal for all this food! Plus you are giving back to the church that sponsors it so it's a worthy cause. One of the waitresses who served us suggested we come back for Mother's day when they also do a special tea luncheon. After we ate we browsed the 2 gift shops on the premises. The downstairs one known as "the Needle's eye" had new holiday items while the two upstairs one known as "Earthly treasures" had vintage items for sale. The Christie house is staffed by church volunteers and people who wish to help out St. Stephen's. The Christie house which is an old Victorian house can also be rented. Metered street parking is available for a minimal fee. Expect to stay at least 1 1/2 hours for your visit. Reservations are not required but highly recommended. They will post the menu online as well. They will reopen on Fridays after the New Year.
