This is my family's go-to brunch spot and we cannot recommend this place enough. Everything from…read moretheir AMAZING service to the quality of their food and coffees are perfect. It's a family run business and everyone is always super nice! Every time we go - not even an exaggeration- they always serve guests with the brightest smile. They're so thoughtful and caring and really make you want to come here just for the interactions. Also, can I just say- for some reason, it's always so hard to find GOOD quality black coffee that's not sour and that the portions are fair for its price. LUNA HANDS DOWN has one of the best coffees in Ottawa and the portion size is 10/10. There's also lots of seating with a comfortable sitting environment and it's not too loud even during rush hours during lunch time. They have patios opened during summer, very cozy!

So Headquarters is a restaurant, cafe AND a salon? Interesting business concept, quite fitting in…read morethe trendy touristy Byward Market. Granted the salon half is a separate unit separated by a glass wall so you don't have to worry about the very idea of hair bits and hairspray migrating into your meal. But I'm just here for the food, which Yelp tells me HQ has plenty of highly rated, it opens early enough and is close to my hotel, so I can walk my lazy ass over for a big brunch. Because my lazy ass figured if I have one big brunch each day of my trip instead of two separate meals, I can gain more time to explore. (Not sure if you want to follow this bit of travel hack advice.) Who wouldn't want to do brunch every day, right? It's an Instagram foodie influencer's bloody dream! The street HQ is on is full of wide street patios. (Judging only by what I saw in the Byward Market, honestly Ottawa has a better street cafe culture than Toronto--sorry Toronto.) So naturally I took up an entire table outside and had me some coffee to start. Cute trendy clean ambience with friendly staff, who apologetically warned me even of wandering wasps which may be bothersome. Must be an Ottawa thing--nobody in Toronto ever warn you of annoying wasps and bees! My main was a Brunch Poutine. Which in summary was a fun and decent choice, not too sweet with the honey drizzle, though the bacon topping was overly crisp.

A cozy little cafe!…read more I really like the causal vibes of this place, it's really great for a lazy weekend brunch. The menu is simple and short but still has basically all the popular brunch items. I got the breakfast sandwich in both the croissant and bagel. Overall very enjoyable! The croissant was very good and buttery but it was kind of messy to eat. I would probably stick with the bagel next time! For drinks I tried one of the staff recommendations and a drip coffee. I'm not a coffee connoisseur but I thought the Lilly was very good, sweet but not too heavy or sugary, but it was a little bit expensive for the price as the cup was fairly small. Price was okay overall factoring in the sandwich as well. Overall, I really enjoyed my breakfast here and would love to come back next time I'm in town!

We also ordered the Salmon Benny, which was very tasty. The hollandaise was thicker than expected, but still great. The fruit served with each dish was fresh and tasty. Service was quick, and coffee was in front of us before we could blink. As expected, it's typical diner coffee. The food, on the other hand was REALLY GOOD. Potatoes were nicely seasoned. Apples were cooked nicely, flavorfull, and not too sweet. Ambiance was comfy - we love booths - and the bathrooms were clean.

And lo and behold, Triple D indeed made a stop into Jax, which is about a five minute walk from our rental. So it was on a recent Tuesday morning that I popped in and ordered the Banana Bread French Toast ("House banana bread, served with cinnamon apple compote, local maple syrup, fresh whipped cream") for takeout. The food was ready about 10 minutes later and I was back at the rental and eating five minutes after that. It's really, really good. The French toast by itself is impressively not too sweet, but the when you eat it with the syrup and the apple compote and the cream, it turns into a perfectly balanced, super delicious concoction. I also got their ice coffee and we both agreed that it was far better than most ice coffees we've ever had. What an awesome little place.

I visited recently with my friend and we both ordered a specialty iced drink. I ordered the Iced Shake Toffee Nut with Cold Foam. This drink has a strong coffee flavour and you can truly taste the toffee nut. I like that it's super refreshing and it's perfect for the summer days. My friend ordered the Ice Biscoff Latte with Whipped Cream. If you are a biscoff fan, this is a must-order. They use biscoff to blend into the latte and they even place a full biscoff cookie on top of the whipped cream. It balances the sweetness of the drink and the coffee flavour at the same time. We also ordered the Smoked Salmon Toast which has a garlicky cream cheese, cucumber, smoked salmon, fresh dill, avocado, capers, radish and a slice of lime. This is a hefty gourmet toast and I love how fresh all the ingredients are. Make sure to squeeze the slice of lime before having it, and it really adds some sourness to the whole dish. I am a huge fan of capers, so this added some tanginess! All the employees are really kind-hearted and will come around often to check in on their customers. They gave good suggestions on both food and drinks. I really like the whole atmosphere of this restaurant. A must-visit if you haven't already!
