It's the only vegetarian sandwich on the menu. It's topped with avocado, tomato, gouda, roasted red pepper, lettuce and maple balsamic mayo. It was good, but I wish there was one more veg sandwich option. The bun was also just alright. Next time I will try getting it in a wrap. The hubs tried a more adventurous sandwich. Him being a meat eater, he got the "Sean Evans" which was topped with fried chicken in hot sauce, chips, caramelized onions, dill mayo, and chili pepper cream cheese. I must say, I was kinda jealous. We also split a slaw. It was good, but nothing to write home about. They are also known for their cookie dough, which I will have to try next time. The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. Delicious I got the Italian hero sandwich and the wife got the turkey pesto and we shared a regular fry and a dip. Both sandwiches were amazing. Great portion size and deeply flavourful. Like I mentioned we got the regular fry and the bag was basically overflowing with fries. The first were chunky fresh cut and seasoned perfectly. Like a lot of the reviews have stated this place is more of a to go location and to be honest that's more than okay. The owners definitely know the meaning of value for money. And I will for sure be coming back. This restaurant is a must try. Enjoy!
