Purchased a Groupon for a haircut, blowout and deep conditioning treatment. This salon is fantastic. When I walked in the receptionist Jenna had a big smile and was so friendly. She walked me over to meet my stylist Lauren. Lauren introduced herself she was so sweet and friendly. Before sitting in her chair I was brought to the shampoo station. It was a fantastic scalp massage along with shampooing my hair. They have TV's mounted on the ceiling so when you're being shampooed you can look up and watch TV. Never seen that before. I have to say Lauren did a fantastic job. It was the first time I had a blowout where a stylist was able to put a curl in my hair without using a curling iron. I was completely impressed. She also gave me a fabulous haircut. Lauren is also very sweet, friendly and gentle. I'm happy I found a local salon and a talented hairdresser. I look forward to returning to Lauren for my next haircut. read more

Avoid this place at all costs if you do not want to get scammed!! On Friday morning, I called to schedule an appointment at the Commack location. After asking for my information and verifying my last visit to the salon, they gave me a 10:30 AM appointment. However, when I mentioned to the receptionist that I would be using a Groupon, she told me she could no longer keep that appointment time because the stylist assigned did not accept Groupon due to my last visit being in November. She said they did have availability at 12:30 PM with another stylist who would accept the Groupon, so I scheduled my appointment for that time instead. After receiving the service described in the Groupon, I tipped the stylist and went to check out. Bria, the receptionist, informed me that I had to pay full price and that they could not accept my Groupon because I had "never mentioned over the phone" that I would be using Groupon for my appointment (which is completely false). I explained that this was exactly why I had specifically asked about it during the phone call, because if they were not going to accept it, I simply would have scheduled my appointment at another Cactus location. During the dispute, Bria kept changing her version of events and contradicted herself several times. First, she said she had personally booked my appointment. Then, she claimed she did not know who booked it or who I had spoken to. I informed her I had a record of the call with the exact date and time so she could verify it, but she refused to check. Bria repeatedly insisted that I should pay the full price and just "gift" my Groupon to someone else. Eventually, after going back and forth over the issue, the only thing she offered was to ask the stylist if she could give me some kind of "discount," as if the problem were somehow my fault. I am completely upset and disappointed. I was scammed, and on top of that, Bria had the audacity to directly suggest that I was lying about the phone call and Groupon. The way I was treated is beyond unacceptable. I strongly recommend avoiding this place entirely. They are unprofessional, do not respect customers, and handle information in a completely inconsistent way. This is not the first inconvinence I have had with this place either. Back in November, after receiving a haircut, paying, and leaving the salon, they called me about half an hour later saying they had made a "mistake" with the pricing and that I needed to pay more. They even asked for my card information, including the security code, which made me extremely uncomfortable due to security concerns. How is it possible for a business not to have control or clarity over its own pricing? They charge you one amount and thereafter call you saying they made a mistake and that you need to pay more by providing sensitive information over the phone. Based on my experience, this is a disorganized, unprofessional, and completely irresponsibly run business, where staff like Bria do not value customers and instead make false accusations of customers being liars. read more

I took my daughter here for a color/cut and blow. Maria was her hair dresser and I need to start by saying how HORRIBLE she was. My Daughters hair did NOT come out how she wanted AT ALL! Maria was very unprofessional and rude. The cut was bad and the color was not even close to the picture. Service was trash! If I could give Maria a negative review, I would. I have no idea who hired her or why she still is employed. YIKES! Get rid of her before she ruins the reputation of this salon more than it already is. read more

Went to get a partial balayage as repeated client with Chrissy in Commack Cactus. My hair is now two different color and no gradual blend that the balayage often creates. I called the manager and they said they'd fix it for free. Seconds later I get a call back from Chrissy telling me she's going to charge me $5 for every foil she puts into my hair. I called the manger to only be told because of my budget and lack of understanding of what a balayage is I will have to pay for it. I explained to Chrissy to cover my roots prior to my appointment. She never touched them and only applied to sloppy pieces in the front and now I look like I have grey hair. What's most disappointing is how they blamed me for their failure to be able to correctly apply a balayage. It's was basically you deal with this disaster and we'll do nothing. Don't recommend this place at all. Maria clearly has no experience with hair coloring and does not tell the truth. I showed her a picture of the color I wanted - silver ombre gray with dark roots. Asked her if she can do it and she said yes. She dyed my hair black with ugly brown lowlights and told me that it will turn silver after several washes, and that I should use purple shampoo, which is clearly a lie because purple shampoo won't work on dark hair. Perhaps the woman only knows how to do highlights and knows nothing about bleaching and coloring. What a waste of time and money! Now I have to go to my regular and more expensive hairdresser to fix the disaster that Maria has done. read more

My first time in Cactus Salon! As I walked in, felt a friendly atmosphere right away. Melissa did an incredible job on my hair! She walked me through the whole process, explaining what she is doing and why. I wanted to have ashy balayage, but my hair are very dark naturally. I'm really happy, Melissa explained me, that going into that light color at one shot will ruin my hair. But she did an amazing job, I couldn't be any happier! She educated me on products and supplements I have to take to keep my hair healthy and shiny. A few months back I bought a package of two facials which I was hoping to use in the next few months. Two weeks ago I made an appointment for the next available date which was today at the Cactus Salon on Vanderbilt Pky location. korina/Corina was the person doing my facial. When we Went into the room she asked me what I was hoping for and I told her to help refresh my skin and help out with the dryness. I have had many facials in the past and this was never an issue. But she couldn't help herself and she said well look in the mirror and once again tell me what you think you need. So I looked in the mirror and I told her to hydrate my face and improve the dryness. She said OK and started to talk to me and then stopped and said you know after certain age you need other things because facials just don't do the job anymore! At this point my thought was ...should I stay or should I go and I decided no I'm gonna stay. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt.So throughout The 20 minutes that I was there, she Constantly told me how bad my skin was, how old I looked (Most people take me for 20 years younger) and that my products were not good enough good( she does not have to like my products, but she shouldn't be harassing me) Ok I figured she was just trying to sell her products and just dismissed it. Well she just didn't like down and she constantly harassed me the entire time about how I should be doing better things for my skin and "why would I bother coming for a facial if I wasn't interested in changing my facial products". Then She told me I shouldn't be giving up and I should be putting up a fight to look the youngest I can. Well yes I am concerned about how I look but I am OK was looking my age but healthy for my age at that. I was done with her now I told her to get out and I didn't want her to be around me anymore because I felt so stressed from being there. This was the worst facial I have ever had in my life I came out so stressed! Do not use this facility Karina was just a nasty woman who Just cares about how much money she can make for her company or sell to make a better salary for herself. I have had a ton of massages and been to lots of spas. And this by far was the worst place and worst massage ever. There was no mood lighting, no music, no blankets on the massage table - nothing. It was just like you said a dirty tile floor and like a clinic with a old bed sheet as the cover. I went there because I got a groupon coupon. And I had two for a massage and booked one for my friend too. Thank goodness my appointment was first because I rushed out of the room after the ordeal was over and saved from friend from the trauma!! I was later told (by the manager) that the therapist was blind. I have NOTHING against him being blind or any disability. Actually, a friend of mind had a massage once by someone who was legally blind and it was one of the best massages she ever had. But this guy sucked. All he did was push down on the skin and it was very uncomfortable just to lie in a clinic like room and only be covered by a bed sheet. He also went way up my leg and to my rear. It was just a really unpleasant experience. While I was saving my friend the manager came over and asked what was wrong and I told her. She was understanding but said that he has regular clients and that she had got a massage from him and it was good. Obviously these people need to get massages at other places! Anyways, she kindly gave my groupon coupons back. And just this weekend my friend and I booked with the Cactus salon in Smithtown - which was EXCELLENT. Go there!! Kinda pissed about my experience at this salon for one reason that unfortunately has nothing to do with how my hair came out... I have short hair like a boy so when the girl was using a buzzer on the back of my hair she accidentally buzzed the necklace I was wearing in half....... Broken. She pretended like nothing happened and kept going with the cut.... Didn't apologize or anything. Lucky for her the necklace was not very expensive but what if it had been? My stylist was Kate/Kaitlyn. She did a pretty good job with my haircut overall and the style was great but wtf... Now I have to spend money to get my necklace fixed... I purchased an Amazon Local deal for a deep conditioning and blow out for a great price. I figured I'd try out this Cactus after just moving from Plainview and having a poor experience over there. The deep conditioning was great as my hair needed it. Now comes the blowout... Pretty simple, right? Nope. The stylist was friendly although distracted throughout the process while speaking to other stylists but that's not a big deal since I figured I was getting a pretty standard blow out. She was having a hard time blowing out the right side of my hair and had no problem telling me that it was MY thick hair that was being difficult & giving her problems. She said it 4 times! As a result & after the longest blowout of my life (1 hour, 15 minutes) my hair came out pin straight on one side and full of body on the other. I'd like to think this is an isolated incident and that maybe I just got the wrong stylist but my previous experiences w other Cactus salons is telling me otherwise. Don't be swayed by the nice discounts. I bought a balayage and blow out groupon and then added on a haircut. I went to Cactus Salon in Commack, NY. When I got there, I was prepared with multiple pictures of the color and style I wanted... a light golden blonde balayage with significant color showing. When all was said and done, my hair was a silvery grey in tiny sections all over my head and even a purple-y GREY in the front. I looked either like a grandma (I am 20 y/o) or like I dunked my head in a bucket of dust. The stylist, Chrissy, said it was difficult to see the blonde in the dark lighting of the salon and took me outside to show me... I should have known. As the people-pleaser that I am, I said thank you, tipped well, and left. I went back two days later after calling and the receptionist agreed that I should have it re-done. When I got there, my stylist (the same one) hadn't been informed of the issues. After explaining once again what I had wanted, showing the pictures, and sharing that I was most upset about, she tried again and made me a honey blonde, almost orange. One thing is that she was good at bringing color back into the grey pieces that she had over-toned previously. However, she rushed the entire time; she got dye on my purse and arms, bleach all over the back of my shirt, and didn't even dry my hair entirely since she "didn't have time." I have curly hair so I left with half a head of straight, blow-dried hair and half a head of air-drying curly hair (as well as a ruined purse and shirt and the need to shower and get the dye off). I looked like a disaster. The haircut was simple and blunt. I have nothing special to note there. The main point of sharing my experience is DON'T GO HERE unless you want to be entirely surprised by your expensive, permanent make-over. Even after going back, I still look NOTHING like the pictures I showed. I do not have money to waste this way. I have a dirty blonde hair color naturally so a light golden blonde balayage has never been an issue in my past experiences at different salons. Chrissy never acknowledged that her work was nothing like what I showed her and asked me if I liked it after informing me that she was out of time. Did a sloppy job on the toe polish and there really wasn't a huge selection of colors for the gel nail polish. This old woman named Kathy at the reception desk was the rudest person i have ever met. i made an appointment to get my hair blown out for my birthday and called saying if it was okay to come in 10 minutes late and she said no so rescheduled until a later time. i show up to the appointment to have her talking about me rudely infront of my face for canceling. After the blowout i saw a promotion for a free birthday blowout and she made rude and nasty comments to me about canceling me earlier appointment. I called explaining the rudeness i encountered and had a snark back instead of an apology. You should never talk to customers like that!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME! Every time I tell someone I went to Cactus Salon they gasp with horror.. I now know why. I have been to the Cactus Salon in Commack two separate times with different stylist and have left both times frustrated and unhappy. After showing my stylist a picture and discussing with her what I wanted she completely ignored everything. When I went back the following day for her to correct my hair, that was nothing close to what I wanted, the stylist had an attitude the entire appointment and said there was nothing she could do. It was clear this stylist did not know what she was doing. I ended up going to Salon 3028 in East Northport. Salon 3028 was extremely helpful in not only correcting my terrible dye job but also worked with me to achieve what I originally wanted. My stylist at Salon 3028 mention almost all of their correct color clients come after being at Cactus. Please avoid Cactus Salon to save your time and money. read more

Last Friday my daughter got a disastrous cut and blow-out from another salon for her school dance, and was extremely upset with the results. We rushed to Cactus to see if they could help us. They were AMAZING! We walked in and told them what had happened and 5 minutes later my daughter was being worked on by Kaitlin. She did a wonderful job and 35 minutes later my daughter was so happy with the results and looked absolutely beautiful. They only charged us half price because we had already spent money at the other salon. My daughter will be a regular customer of Kaitlin from now on. read more

Ive dealt with anxiety for a number of years just from every day things, small stuff, big stuff you name it. I have a problem relaxing my mind and recently they hired someone at this cactus that does reiki. I know everyones opinion on it is different and that's fine but for whatever reason you're feeling anxious or stressed please, go see Alayne. If you've never experienced reiki and have no idea what it is, she explains everything before she even starts. Shes very intuitive and helped me relax so much. Ive been having a rough time these past few months and just the energy in her room is so relaxing and welcoming. DO NOT GO TO THIS CACTUS!!! And do not go to Melissa!!! I got my hair done for my birthday two weeks ago my hair is destroyed! I have five or six different colors and she chopped off more than four inches into an old school Rachel style . People ask me where and why did I get this it is absolutely horrible I could have done better at home with my eyes closed. She ruined my hair and didn't apologize but had an attitude as well as the beady eyed girl up front who was pretending to care while charging me full price for this monstrosity!!! I was there for six hours after she kept making mistakes and not admitting to them. Finally I leave with this nightmare and I call corporate I spoke to Joe who told me how unprofessional this was handled and he said he would speak to them as well as send me a gift card to get it fixed. A week passed never heard back from him or received a gift card. Every aspect of this encounter was handled unprofessionally and I want to make sure no one else has to walk around like this! i travel all the way here from queens just to get my hair done by Angela! She is really such a great stylist, she can do it all! My hair is naturally very curly with frizzy tendencies and so i'm always nervous about who cuts my hair- but Angela makes it an art form! I swear, I told her i wanted layers and she suggested that I just let her "do her thing"... i took a leap of faith and she was right!!
