Vibe is cool. Make sure you have time to wait- we waited about 1.5hrs Friday for a table of 8 (they advised 1hr wait at 6:40). There is an outside covered lounge to wait. We tried Cactus Canyon yesterday for dinner. Once we entered we were taken aback by the darkness inside the restaurant. As it was early we were quickly seated by friendly staff. After the preview of specials and features we placed our order. The beef tacos (2) were large and very good. My wife's quesadillas and tortilla soup were very good. The food was good, but it was so dark you could not see what you were eating. The place had the vibe of a martini bar and the music was traditional and not. Prices were on the high side of too high. The poor lighting was really bizarre and will be a deal killer for me. If you are going to try it, take a flashlight. read more

Visiting our daughter and son in law in Flower Mound and they raved about this restaurant. The look is sort of moody, low lighting, modern but rustic. Greeted and sat right away on a Sunday evening. Comfortably busy with plenty of attentive staff. We had the steak fajitas, tortilla crusted chicken, beef enchiladas and eggs rolls. The steak was some of the best we've ever had. The egg rolls were delicious. The beef enchiladas were somehow different than what we're used to and in the best way! The food was excellent! The bar manager, Nick, checked in us twice and our server was perfection. She was friendly but real, checked on us but not too much, kept the table clean and cleared empty plates right away. We had such a fantastic time celebrating our best friends' 10-year-old daughter's birthday at Cactus Canyon! Our group of nine (four adults and five kids) usually makes hostesses look a little nervous when we walk in, but not here! From the moment we arrived, the entire team was warm, welcoming, and so accommodating. The manager greeted us right away and offered immediate seating options on their climate-controlled patio or indoors since another large party was wrapping up. We chose to sit inside and really appreciated how easy they made it for us. Dinner was excellent. We especially loved the warm salsa. Standout dishes were the filet enchiladas and the special that night which was the carne asada, both absolutely delicious. Their margaritas are top-notch too. Our favorite was the "Not a Karen." Our server was friendly, efficient, and gave great menu recommendations. Even other staff members passing by wished the birthday girl a happy birthday, which made it extra special. They surprised her with a dessert and a sparkling candle that had all the kids smiling from ear to ear. We left full, happy, and genuinely impressed with the hospitality. The food: Chips and salsa were good, although I don't particularly like warm salsa. Would have preferred warmer chips and cool salsa. The Guacamole was very good and would recommend. I ordered the Birria tacos and chicken tortilla soup. The soup had a good flavor, but it was a bit thick and light on the chicken. The Birria tacos were not the flavor I expected. Being Hispanic I definitely had an idea of what these should taste like and the flavors presented were not it. The meat which was brisket was also a bit dry and tough. The refried beans were bland and did not taste like refried beans. The rice appeared to be prepackaged. I had high expectations for this lovely restaurant and was hopeful for some traditional Mexican food, but this wasn't it. I will likely go back at least one more time for a second chance. Walking in, we expected this to be similar to Marty B's, but it is not. The lighting is lower and the ambiance is more upscale, but the staff was exactly what we were expecting. We were warmly welcomed upon entering and immediately seated. Brice was our server and he was very warm and polite. Our drink order was delivered to our table quickly, of which my wife ordered a skinny margarita and I had the spicy. Both were solid as was to be expected. For food, I ordered the brisket Birria tacos and she had an order of pork tamales and chicken tortilla soup. Our kids had the chicken strips. All our food was very good and I'd give the adult meals a solid A-. The only issue any of us had was the soup is slightly under salted. That being said, both the tamales and tacos were top notch. Excellently seasoned, well cooked and the presentation was great. We were talked into dessert (though it didn't take much arm twisting once the options were explained) and ordered the 5-layer ice cream and cheesecake. My daughter and I preferred the cheesecake while my wife and son preferred the ice cream. Although both were phenomenal and I would recommend either. We are typically not the type of family that orders dessert, but we wanted to give them a shot. Overall, I will say that the food is well worth it along with the atmosphere, but the highlight is the service. My wife works in the high end restaurant industry and this was a great experience. It's competitive with much more expensive restaurants and I'm very happy that this is so close to us. We will definitely be returning. My only complaints would be extremely minor, which is the lighting during the lunch service (maybe dial it up 15%) and the slightly under salted soup. We went early and the place was pretty full but we were able to get right in. Staff was friendly and able to make recommendations. This is a must for me. The interior was beautifully decorated and relaxing. Back to those fajitas- i have not stopped dreaming about those. We shared the regular beef fajitas.
