Albums and books in the common room at Cache House hostel.

TLDR: great location, clean, nice beds. Yes, the cubbies are hot. Not super affordable considering it's a hostel but it's Jackson and everything is expensive. Amazing location! Right across from the visitor center in Jackson and only a short walk to all the shops/restaurants. I found it to be very clean. I'm hyper-cautious of bed bugs so I always thoroughly inspect mattresses and bedding anywhere I stay, and the bedding/mattress were very clean. We were there two nights and we saw a team of cleaners come in and clean all the spaces. We saw people of all ages and from all over! All the guests were friendly and respectful. I wish we would have had more time to spend in the hostel, I'm sure we would have made some new friends! Tip#1: the entrance is hard to find. It's downstairs on the East side of the building (the side facing the visitor center which is across the street). The building itself had a broken sign on the same side and was painted a dark color (not sure if it was navy or black). But before you lug all your stuff down the stairs, check in at the attached Anvil hotel. (May vary seasonally, we went off-season in mid-September.) Tip #2: they do NOT offer parking! There is a garage about a 10 minute walk away, or you can try to find street parking anywhere outside of downtown. During the day, you can leave your car in the visitor center parking but not overnight. Most street parking is free but limited to two hours until 6 and then you can park there overnight. In other words, you can park any time after 4 pm and leave your car all night. We were able to park on Mercill, which is the next street down to the North of the hostel (about a block walk). Tip # 3: the reservation includes a locker with a combination lock you set yourself. The locker is a good size, about half standing height, but fairly wide and deep. I was able to fit my 24" hard-sided suitcase (exactly dimensions below), good size backpack, coat and purse in the locker. They have a table near the locker hall where you can set your suitcase to sort through it. However, the locker hall has a lot of traffic and it was kind of a pain having to get in and out of the locker all the time. I recommend planning ahead and packing what you need each day in separate bags or packing cubes so you can just grab and go. Also, pack a separate bag for anything you want to sleep with in your bed cubby (air pods or ear plugs, lotion, water bottle, medicine, etc.). Exact suitcase dimensions: 17.7" W x 10.6" D x 25.98" H (standing on wheels) Tip #3: it is super easy to accidentally reset your combination lock on the lockers! I did it and I saw it happen to others. If you do, just head up to the desk in the Anvil hotel and the staff will come help you reset it. BUT, to avoid this, remember not to scramble the combination when the handle is in the "up" position (turned to the left). As long as your combination is set when you turn the handle down (to the right), it should remain as you set it. Then, once the handle is turned to the right, you can then scramble the numbers so it doesn't show your code. Tip #4: they provide several private, locking shower rooms which include a toilet, sink, hand soap, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Not a lot of floor space, no counter space in the shower rooms, and only one hook for hanging things, so you don't want to take too much in there. They also have a shared sink/counter space area outside of the hall with the shower rooms. Tip #5: they provide towels! The towels are in the drawer under your bed cubby that has the same number as your assigned bed cubby. You can also set a combination lock and use the drawer to store your own stuff, but about half the drawers are under the ladders and kind of hard to get in and out of. Tip #6: with the curtains closed, the cubbies aren't too noisy, but there is some noise transfer. If you're a light sleeper, I recommend bringing ear plugs or air pods. Tip #7: as other reviews have mentioned, the cubbies do get hot. This was true even in mid-September when the outside temperature was lower. They do provide a fan in the cubby but you can't really aim it down at yourself. I think it is because the cubbies are pretty well insulated so they retain heat. (Insulation =better sound proofing, so it is a win some/lose some situation). It seemed to get hotter the longer I was in it. If you sleep hot (like me), plan accordingly. I brought a cooling blanket, which helped. They do have outlets in the cubby if you want to bring an additional fan. And/or sleep in your summer/light-weight pjs. Tip #8: they do not have microwaves, coffee pots, washers or dryers. There are several cafes within walking distance for coffee/food. I know there was a laundromat coming into Jackson but it would not be walking distance. I don't know if there was one closer. I enjoyed my stay at Cache House and would stay again!

Wow I'm impressed with this hostel.... friendly staff, super chic, cozy bed and clean. I will differently return. Not bad for $45 a night.

    Main lobby

This has been the best hostel experience I have ever had! Granted I have only stayed in one. The concierge were extremely nice and accommodating, the facilities were well kept and clean, there was good access to lockers, the location is fantastic, and the bed was comfy. This was the only location I could afford as everything else in jackson was 200+ for a night. I got it for 105$ split between two people which I think was fair for this location. The only downside I could see were the bunks being hot. I stayed her during a very cool June (under 80 degrees each day) and the bunk was fine after we turned the fan on. It was me and a friend both of which are larger guys. If we can handle it, I think most other people are overreacting. I would stay here again.

Thermostat in the Cache house room. THE AC DOES NOT WORK

DO NOT STAY HERE... unless you want to pay $200 a night to shower and sleep in your car because it's too hot to sleep in the pizza oven cubby. When asking the manager Stefani about A/C issues she replied "We do not advertise we provide A/C but do provide a description of out hostel and what is included for the price a guest pays for. Our temperature at the Hostel is 60 degrees, and all floor heating is off all day, the photo you have sent is our regulation Since there are a lot of guests at the hostel the temperature of the room was high. Our temperature readers are mandatory for our local fire and building inspection restrictions and only read the temperature of the room." Great customer service, Stefani! $600 for 3 nights and I slept in my car for 3 nights because the heat was unbearable. See image below of the thermostat. Honestly, this place could just fix the AC. Every person in this building looked like they didn't sleep and woke up in a sauna. I will absolutely never give my business to this company again.

It was certainly a warmer place than we had been laying our heads so we were appreciative of many of the amenities. They have onsite laundry for your smelly clothes or if you want to get caught up with laundry before getting home to unpack. Let it be known that it is $10.00 PER LOAD -$5 wash/$5 dry. The walls and ceiling are incredibly thin. They do provide cute notes and ear plugs to overcome this objective. It was tolerable for us but be aware. You will hear your neighbors. Superb location. Quick walk (5-10 min) to many great spots around Jackson. Super quick walk to Pearl St Bagels. In room coffee station did not include any tea options. Overall decent room for value.

Modern Motel is a cluster of buildings around a central courtyard with a fire pit. It has a wonderful location within easy walking distance to all of Jackson's restaurants and shopping. Modern gives you a small room with a small bathroom. The room was recently redecorated with carpeting and wall decor, so it was very neat. But it was short on electrical plugs and the room was dark -even with all the lights and lamps on, there were shadows in the room. The heat was noisy (when it first came on we thought it was a rainstorm) and the bathroom fan was noisier. There are no dressers, but an oversized tall wall cutout for your skis. There is a built-in bottle opener on the wall. Speaking of walls, they are pretty thin so you'll hear every sneeze, cough, and footstep. but no worries - because this is the only motel I've ever seen that prov8des earplugs for the room. There are some great features, besides the location. Service was great, and when we had a problem with the shower, a gent from the office was over to get things going within minutes.

Luckily for us, they had a cabin (#14) that had 2 queen beds for 4 adults. It was the "cheapest" place in an EXPENSIVE town. Customer service at the motel office was good. We did have to wait about 20 minutes for the clerk to show up, though. There was a note on the desk that she stepped out and to call her cell for assistance. We did end up staying and talking to her for about an hour while we waited for a shower storm to pass. The location was perfect. The grounds were quiet and made you feel like you were in nature. Yet walk off the property, and you were a block from a bustling tourist town. I didn't get any pics of the inside, but it served its purpose. We got old-fashioned keys (no cards). It was clean yet not. I did not feel comfortable walking around in bare/ stocking feet. The beds were comfortable. Lighting was dim. We had a fridge to store our cooler belongings overnight. There was a moderate sized kitchen table for snacks and map planning. The bathroom had a long bench inside. Perfect place to store everyone's toiletrie bags. The shower was super tiny. No one showered here, but I'd have to stoop down to get my head under the shower head. And forget about elbow room. You'd need to keep them tucked beside your body. There was a tiny window that provided a cross breeze at night. This place has been family owed since the 1950s. And it did bring back memories of my grandpa's carpentry and electrical skills. Old fashioned plywood (visible in closet and bathroom) and light switches. I'd definitely recommend this place to others, as long as they weren't expecting 3-star accommodations.

No upper place for shower products, only a soap dish and it's so small you can't set anything on the floor without tripping over it. Lighting was so bad we had to use a flashlight pointed into the shower stall in order to see. Tile grout is EXTREMELY moldy as is the wood paneling and log ceiling. There is no exhaust fan. Floor was noticeably unlevel, we kept losing our balance when walking around. Porch light was burned out and while this not being a make-or-break item it just accentuates that there is very little care given to the state of this facility.
