I walked in, and not one of the three employees/owners approached me, barely acknowledged me, or asked how I could be assisted. For purveyors of high-end clothing since '1918' they have poor customer service. All I received was a hi back. And, an empty store, what a surprise...there was a beautiful sweater in the window that I absolutely loved, and a few others I wanted to purchase... If they read this review... At $219+ per article of clothing, say hello to your customers...irrespective of how they are dressed, on that day (torn jeans and a baseball cap). You did me a favor, I found the same items online, for a bit less...and I wasn't judged by my appearance! Shame! read more

My girlfriend and I Walked into the store while visiting in Truckee for the weekend. While the store seemed to be nice and a place we would like to shop, the reception we received by the owner was very unpleasant to say the least. We were both wearing masks for the COVID mandate, however the owner seemed very paranoid while wearing a mask, a face shield, and having a splash guard at the register. She came up to us and basically started badgering us almost immediately upon entering the store saying we were not wearing our mask right. To the point I thought she was going to reach out and try to fix them on our faces the way she wanted them, and not polite in the process at all. She kept on following us around the store repeating to pull them up higher or this way or that way on the bridge of your nose. I placed the items I had picked up back on the counter, over $150 worth of merchandise, and we walked out. Came back later hoping she was gone, same treatment, so we left again. If she is that scared then she should be the safest and just shut down her shop, it would be less damaging to her reputation than her actions are. We will not go back, we will just find her merchandise online with another retailer. Do not ruin your visit to beautiful Truckee by going into this store..... read more

I went into this store with my girlfriend as we had been in truckee to enjoy a nice day out. About midway though the store, an older woman (who I assume is the business owner) asked me to stop eating candy in her store. I said "sure" and put the candy in my pocket. While she seemed to be rude right away, her next comment was shocking. She told me that 'I wouldn't want to leave the store with something I intended to buy', implying that I was going to steal something. We circled the store and left. Cabonas employees have always been extremely polite. I often just browse in the store as I like to see what is new and have never been rushed or pushed to make a purchase. The sales people are also honest when asked an opinion as to "how does this look on me?" I find this extremely helpful. They have quality and stylish merchandise and displays are well-done including the store windows. I do think that the owner is a woman, so was confused by some of the reviews. I have a lung disease and was wearing a mask over my nose I had it pulled out a tiny bit to allow some air in as I was having trouble getting air. My O2 was below 90 as I keep a pulse oximeter in my purse and O2 in my vehicle as I need it often. I had waited all week for my husband to be able to join us to go shopping here as the had his favorite brand of shirts. I walked to the woman's side and found a few things for myself. I was asked if I was finding everything ok by a salesperson l, I said yes and asked if it was ok if I paid for everything on the men's side she said of course. She didn't say anything about my mask. I didn't walk 10 steps and I was told by a different saleswoman that I needed to pull my mask over my nose. I said it is and that I have a lung disease and am having trouble breathing do to the altitude and she said I don't care you're going to have to fix it or leave. I was trying not to cry as I was extremely embarrassed. I thought I was doing everything right as I don't want to get sick either. I called for husband to come pay and as he walked closer he heard how the woman was talking to me and said let's just go. I was horrified! The entire store was staring at us. My poor son was scared he didn't understand why we were being told to leave. We all sanitized our hands and had our masks on. It was humiliating. I've never been treated so poorly in my entire life. I was in a coma for 21 days and died 4 times from an unknown lung virus. This is the first time I've left my home since March 14th. I've taken every precaution to NOT get sick and would never put anyone else at risk. The only reason we are even here in Tahoe is we brought our son to a skate camp. I've stayed in our hotel until my until my husband was here and we were doing very limited outings. The gentleman that was trying to check me out was apologizing profusely as he didn't see I was doing anything wrong. I'm appalled that ANY business would discriminate against the sick. I'm handicapped because of my lung capacity. Not only legally but morally. I'm still crying. My poor son just wants to go home. I hope people read this and choose to go to the next store down. The book store was amazing! I was having trouble breathing so I asked if I could buy the book in the window without going in and the manager asked the other patrons if they minded if I came in w/out a mask to look at other books. The all said ok. I didn't ask for that. She went out of ther way to accommodate me and my condition. That's what this world should be about. Please don't spend your money here. I have to second (or I guess 5th) all the negative reviews about customer service. I'm local and this is the third time I have been in. My guess is because I don't look like a rich tourist, I don't get any attention. I stood waiting at the desk today for 5 minutes and all the employees refused to speak to me. Once they finally did, they said "do you need something". I told them what I was looking for and they immediately said no and walked away. Even though they have nice stuff I am going to refuse to shop here out of principle because of the the customer service. read more

I've been coming to Cabona's for years during the summer. I normally have a nice experience with the ladies and find a thing or two to take home (my husband has spent quite a bit at this store). I recently went in and could not believe the way I was treated. I felt "inspected" and that the sales lady was doing me a favor by being there. Not helping, as she wasn't, just had a few matter of fact comments, until it was time to check out. She didn't say one word, except "this is your copy" (of the receipt) and walked away from the register. I don't know why people like this work in customer service. They should work in the back where they don't have to look at the public. How is a simple "thank you" so hard? The name on the receipt said the cashier was "Patty" although I'm not sure if they share the register. There was another lady there that was very nice and helped with the dressing room. read more

Cabona's isn't usually my personal style (Ok, I have picked up a few sun hats and one skirt), but if you are looking for a beautiful gift for you mom, mother-in-law, or any other maternal figure, you'll find it here. They always have in season, high-end resort wear and accessories. My mom-in-law found a beautiful Brighton bag here that I was actually in love with! They also have an equally impressive men's department and the staff has always been very helpful and friendly. read more

If I could give this place one star I would. So here I am ready to buy a bunch of overpriced Pendletons for my father who just lost his house in the Sonoma fire. My husband also had some stuff and we are making the way to the cash register. With our 3 year old and 5 year old in tow , we are getting ready to spend well over $600 when a crotchety old blond lady walks up and tells us that children are not welcome in the store. My girls were on amazing behavior and holding hands (a rarity for sure). I ignore her hoping that it's a joke when she proceeds to follow us around like we are ready to destroy her store. Then I realize she wasn't joking and children actually aren't welcome. Asked the old woman if she was the owner and she said very snootily that she was. Told my husband to drop his stuff and we walked out. Not the way to treat customers, especially ones that are going to drop a large amount of money in 10 minutes. Oh, and I'll be sure to share this experience with every mom group from truckee to the Bay Area. I'm sure they will want to give their business to those who are more child friendly. Rude! read more

I've been shopping at Cabonas for several years and have always had great experiences in the store. The staff is actually trained to help you, without pressure, define what you might like. They provide service, which is a lost art and, I suppose, would be off-putting to those who are most comfortable at Nordstom rack. The quality of the merchandise is high and the prices reflect that-- this isn't Ross or Marshalls. I love each and every item I have invested in at Cabonas over the years and feel very good when wearing these outfits that fit well and reflect who I am. Highly recommend this store to others who value and quality shopping experience and quality clothing. read more
