I went to Cabelas to purchase a 10ft Sun Dolphin boat that was on sale. They stated the only one that was left was the display model and he could not discount that one anymore if I was to buy it, and he wouldn't get anymore in anytime soon. Well I purchased the display model and realized the next day that the rubber electrical plug was broken and missing. I went back in and they had not one but three new ones already out on display ready to buy. Oh and far as the plug, I was told I could probably find one at a hardware store. Wow ! As a Hispanic liberal who was born in California I can tell you right now Cabela's is the last place I thought I would enjoy. I have had good experiences and bad experiences with their firearms counter. I have been there for firearms or accessories 6 times and only had 1 great experience. I went in to buy a pistol and had a terrible experience. First it took 30 minutes to get a salesman to assist even thought there were 2 guys leaning on the counter at the time. When I did get service they looked down their nose at me because I wanted to buy a 22LR pistol and spent about 20 minutes trying to upsell me to a better gun and then just told me I would have to look elsewhere. I went in and bought some black Friday deal rifles and it was a nightmare, only had 3 rifles for the special price and caused a bit of a ruckus. I got cussed out by customers for getting 2 of them and one of the salesman behind the counter gave me the dirtiest look when he found out that I was purchasing 2, (there was no purchase limit and they were gifts for my 2 sons). I did have an excellent time purchasing a NICE Luepold scope for my DD V11 AR15. The gentleman who helped me spent time to understand what I wanted and gave me a great deal at the end with mounts and service. He mounted the scope in about 5 minutes and let me verify the stock weld to eye relief before bore scoping it. He then advised me how I should calibrate the zero on the elevation knob and several other pointers. That man saved this review from being a 1 or 2 star, wish I could remember his name. read more

Unsure how the Boise Cabela's stays in business ... except for their National Cabela's brand and advertising .. and, only game in town. I made a large purchase for my husband for a gift and the salesman had no clue what he was doing. Inventory was incorrect as to reality stock in the store. It took 3 of them to try to figure out how to order something from their in store kiosk, then how to use my gift card and then credit card. One kiosk was broken, the other was out of paper and didn't work properly either. After taking me to Customer Service, it took 2 people to help me with 1 looking on to help me with an elementary question about my order. After returning home, somewhat disgusted at the level of knowledge and training of the employees I encountered, I asked my husband if this was normal or if I happen to run into inept employees. He is a regular, along with numerous guy friends and this store has a reputation of (excuse me) "morons". I think it might behoove management to train their employees better, or at least hire competent people. Management needs to hire secret shoppers to see the reality of what a customer goes through. My personal experience was astounding. In a women's market, this store would go out of business within 6 months with the lack of professionalism and experience of salespeople to actually help their customers! read more

I'm not a regular shopper at Cabela's but I'm giving it 5 stars because of the awesome service I got from Justin in the gun department. I was NOT buying a gun but needed help in picking out some hearing protection headphones to take to a rock concert. Justin opened some packages so that I could try them on to make sure they fit but weren't too tight. He gave me such good service for a $19 purchase. Like I've said before, "Anytime my husband has a reason to shop at Cabela's, he takes it!" This was no exception. We stopped in Idaho for the night, and after checking into our hotel, my husband wanted to look for a new fishing pole. Thank goodness there was a Cabela's nearby. The store was neat and orderly and it was easy to see where the fishing department was. There were lots of poles to choose from. He had a hard time deciding which one to buy. After making his selection, he noticed a pole that was on sale. It was such a good price that he decided to buy them both. It was 10 minutes before closing and when we commented to the employee that we would hurry, he said, "No worries...take your time." Almost everyone had left the store by the time we checked out, but they never made us feel like we were a bother. They get 5 stars for their friendliness and hospitality. read more

From the reviews, it looks like other people had a similar experience here as mine when looking at firearms. It took me about three employees to actually get treated with respect and I went on two occasions. The staff isn't helpful and uninterested in answering questions or showing you products if you aren't an avid sportsman. The guys behind the counter are grown men and act like bros in a high school club, so if you want to actually learn about equipment you might spend a few hundred dollars on, go somewhere else. read more

The thing that makes Cabela's different is the stuff that's not for sale. There is a nice display of stuffed animals in their natural habitat, there are large fish tanks, and there is a priceless display of Elmer Keith's guns and other artifacts. They do have a large gun selection, but Boise Gun Company has a MUCH larger one. I guess I should add that I"m talking about the one in Boise. read more

To the young female women's department employee working the 1:00 shift: I drove up from Caldwell looking for an item and you brushed me off after I asked you if you carried Sherpani bags. You couldn't grab your water bottle and walk away quick enough as you turned your head and said, "no, we don't." with nothing else said. So, I wandered the department for five minutes and not ten feet away found two Sherpani bags from our interaction. I left them sitting on your station for you. read more

I have shopped cabelas for years. The boise store has me wanting to never go back. They change help like i change undewear. The customer service does not exist. I have ordered on line twice lately and have had trouble with the customer service counter both times. Right now I am 10 days and nobody knows where my boots are and dont act like they care. Went in yesterday, looking for a price on a holster, my daughter wants to buy me a birthday present and I can use a new one. The price is important because she'll need to buy a gift card for the proper amount. Wasn't priced on the shelf. Who doesn't have their merchandise priced? One of the biggest and oldest complaints among consumers ever! Walked up and down the aisles looking for an associate to help....no one on the floor. Went to the counter, many people waiting for help, was told it would be a few minutes. Got tired of waiting and left...was in the store about 15 minutes and the experience was not impressive. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!:( Avid sportsman and Loyal customer for over 10 years but I will never do business at a Cabelas/ Bass Pro shop again. My son went to buy a tree stand and tried to get some help in choosing the model. No employees knew anything about them ( a growing Problem since Bass Pro bought them out). I told my son to buy the one they had and we could check it out. When we opened it in the mountains, the instructions inside the box, stated that it was not good to be used on bark trees. Uhhh well that doesn't work very well in Idaho for pine trees and especially on my ranch. When I went to return it they said they couldn't take tree stand returns do to liability issues. So I asked Jim, the manage, " you mean you sold me a tree stand that I can't use because you have no trained staff, didn't advise us that this item was excluded from your normal return policy, and now are sticking me with over $600 of unusable product?" He responded sorry sir that's the policy. WOW I guess I should have spent my thousands and thousands of dollars supporting a local business and not some chain that sees me as expendable. Driving back to Vegas from the Holidays I thought I would check the store out New Years day. It was pretty much what I expected. They don't have this store in Vegas, Only Bass Pro Shops. Not alot of merchandise to choose from as they were having their clearance sale so I will need to order some online. They do have alot of ammunition though. read more

This is a really fun place to look around and visit. It's huge, and has lots of stuff for hunting, fishing, and shooting. But for other non-hunting outdoor activities such as backpacking they tend to carry lesser quality items at a high price; just go to REI. Fun to visit, not the best price and quality. read more

This place is great! I went there after visiting bass pro in Vegas and in rancho cucamunga. There is no comparison, cabelas is sooooo much better. There is everything you need for hunting and with a huge selection of gear and brands. With bass pro you are limited to their brand and about one more, here there you get to chose. There is low end cheap road hunting gear to the high end back packing hunting gear! Great store for anyone into hunting! read more

They have lots of stuff, and if you know exactly what you need, and they have it, you are in luck. However, if you order something for pickup or need customer service you are in for a less than great experience. You are also going to be inconvenienced if the item you want to buy doesn't scan correctly in the system. I have been there several times and the folks in the specialized areas know their stuff; just avoid needing general customer service and you will be fine. read more

I spend a ton of money here but I dont know why. I just bought a gun from their gun Library and tried to buy 2. I asked if they would take $20 bucks off the second one and they said they just couldnt afford to. Then the guy tells me he wished I didnt buy the first gun because he wanted it. I never feel like a respected customer. Definately feel taken for granted and I spend literally thousands of dollars at this store. If there were more choices I wouldnt continue to shop there. Sportsmans warehouse's folks are very knowledgable, especially about fishing and they seem to really value me as a customer. I just wish they had a gun room. read more

Favorite place to shop - service can be spotty at times but it's a big store!

Wow. First trip back since previous review, so had to update! Watched the lines at the two checkout stations (that were open -- there are several more) pile up at about 4pm. One cashier was having a lengthy problem with a customer -- no gripe there, as he had to do what he had to do. However, as people kept getting into lines, nothing else happened. I was so frustrated, I started counting the Cabela's employees I saw walking around (seemingly with nothing to do, but perhaps they were on their way places -- although I saw one woman walk by three times...). Six separate Cabela's staffers walked by, and no one thought to call for another checkout station. Finally, the other cashier, Stephanie, had to get on her own radio to ask about fill-ins. At this point, there were 8 parties in one line, 6 in the other. This is on a weekday afternoon, no particular rush or special occasion. I am going to steer clear of this Cabela's at the holidays, that's for sure. In fact, I think I'll steer clear of it altogether and shop online. (Other Cabela's I've been to have been much better.--not sure why this one is consistently bad.) read more

bought two items. they went on sale two weeks later. took my receipt back to the store. was told a policy would not allow for an adjustment. i must go home, get the items , bring them back for refund, then re-purchase..I asked for the store manager. someone arrived,told me he was the store manager. he would not make the adjustment. I asked for the regional name and phone number. then the "real" store manager appeared. said he would go ahead and make the adjustment this time. so, lets piss off customers for a twenty dollar bill. read more

Worst Customer Service ever! I would really call it "NON Customrer Service" I bought a coat at Christmas time and never wore it until 3 months later, first time I wore it the zipper broke! I took it back and it looks and is brand new, they would not do anything for me. The only thing they told me was that there were no refunds or store credit over 90 days, I told them it was still new, I had just put it on that morning! Still no satisfaction, I told them I wanted to speak to the manager, they got on the phone for 2 seconds and then told me the manager was in a meeting if I would like to wait. I told them to throw the coat in the trash and I would never shop there again, the gal said OK and took the coat. I have never been so mad in my life. I wrote a letter to the company and they told me the store would be notified of the complaint, I have never heard another word and I'm out the cost of the coat and some aggravation and inconvenience! I will tell everybody I know not to shop there also! read more
