This was my very first experience with a Cabela's. I don't hunt or fish, so I really have no reason to come in. However, I was very impressed by what was inside and the huge selection they had to offer. After I found what I needed, I walked throught the whole place just to familiarize myself with what they had in case I ever want to come back. Cabela's is great. I should just stop there. I needed some cold weather gear that will keep my hands and face warm while still allowing me to shoot a pistol and rifle effectively. Jim came out of nowhere to help me find what I needed. Really, he literally snuck up on me. I was standing in the camouflage section though. That stuff really works. Jim dropped in on us and was a big help in setting me up with a base layer pants, shooting gloves, and a mask that I can breathe in without fogging up my glasses. Jim was a really big help. I'm a Cabela's club member, so I was able to use my points to get my stuff basically 50% off. Like most stores, you already know what they are about. Shopped here for the last time yesterday! They are slowly but surely are phasing out Cabela's the selection is diminishing. The fly fishing selection used to be amazing now there barely enough there to even have a fly shop. The store has changed so much since the buy out and not for the better. It sad to see such a wonderful company go down the toilet. The Cabela's lifetime warranty is even gone so no warranty on their products. Just purchased a new toy for my son. The whole shopping experience, from checking out the different hand guns and rifles and choice of ammo was clean, speedy and smooth. Though I spent a bit more then I would normally allow myself, I think that the entire experience, all things consider (grandkids can go mess around and enjoy their time) was very good. Bottom line, I am not the biggest fan of large corporations, but Cabelas is nice, friendly and with a large selections of items and activities. I will be back! read more

This is a very small Cabela's looks like it used to be something else. Big plus is they are dog friendly so my little CBR got to tag along and meet a bunch of new people as well as trying to pick a fight with the stuffed animals. I'm not a hunter and seldom fish, but I do enjoy camping and spending a lot of time enjoying outdoor activities. Cabela's has a great selection of items for the outdoors. (Clothing, camping gear, etc.) One of the things I enjoy about Cabela's is browsing the camping gear, I often find an item or a gadget I didn't know existed. This particular location is probably my favorite Cabela's store of the ones I have visited. The staff I encountered seemed happy to be there, and we're very helpful. Bought a generator from Cabela's a month later it wouldn't start. Waited 3 days for help from Champion so i called Cabela's just to be told seeing as i put fuel in it already there is nothing they can do. Which is highly sus because all other stores that sell generators will take a look at it and exchange it. Visited Cabela's for the first time last week. Went to do some window shopping on future gun purchases. I ask the young lady behind the counter what she had in either. .308, 30 carbine or .22/.22Mag. I was thinking Contender or any Semi auto pistol as I wanted to get a feel for how my hand would feel on each. She said they really didn't have anything. I asked how about a Keltec PMR30. She said they didn't carry it and advised another dealer. She the suggested I walk to the in-store gun library and inquire with them. So I did what she suggested and went there. When I walked in there were two gentlemen talking shop about something but rather than interrupt them to ask about my needs I began looking into every case at all the different guns. A few minutes passed and the neither of these two so much as said a word to the only potential customer they had in that library sales room at the time. I continued looking at guns and heard their conversation was wrapping up and thought "okay now I'll get some help " NOT! Before I could raise my head from the glass case they both went there separate ways (one to the office area and one to the main showroom)without either one asking if I needed assistance. There were multiple guns I would have liked to have seen and held but that just left a bad feeling about this gun shop so I walked out. at best - THREE STARS As a sharp contrast as I walked around this establishment I was greeted by other salespeople and need to give them their due. A young lady in the shoe department was very nice and I had a long conversation with a very nice gentleman in the Knife/Binocular area who was from Oroville CA. Scott in the gun library helped me out so much. he recommended a base model ar-15, i would've liked a handgun but idaho law prevents anyone under 21 from buying one. none the less it was and amazing experience and he was incredibly helpful and funny. an amazing experience for a first time gun buyer! read more

I have shopped here a few times, and it was always a quality experience, except for this last visit. Customer service gave me a real hard sell on the credit card deal. I tried to be friendly, but when I said no thanks the lady asked me if I was going to shop "or just hang out". Beg pardon? I was killing time and decided to check out Cabela's. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW! I've never seen anything like this store. This place is HUGE, it address all your outdoor needs; camping, hunting (guns, bows, knives), and fishing, to name a few. They have exhibits for all types of things, one area showed the big game animals people hunt in Africa. It was honestly like a museum exhibit. They have a gun show room, which had all sorts of crazy things, they even have a taxidermy area - WTF! My favorite area was the fishing tanks, they have HUGE tanks filled with different fish, and I'm talking big fresh water fish. All the kids were going crazy, it was feeding time, and he fish were hungry, CHOMP, CHOMP! If I was with my kids, I'd go here just to kill time, it was honestly overwhelming with all the neat aspects that I don't get living in California. I can't comment on their pricing, as I was here to gawk only, but I can assure you, their selection set is vast. read more

Ohhh! It used to be sooo wonderful to go into Cabela's and talk, shop, discuss camping or hunting in Idaho and the northwest. I looked forward to their pre Christmas Sunday evening closed store invitation only for those of us with Cabela''s credit cards and have spent $$$$$$ over the years because of their service and quality merchandise targeted for Idaho. Now, under Bass Pro Shops, it has become one big nothing burger that just pushes out cheap camo clothing product not really suited for Idaho and service is non existent. I tried to talk to an employee about camo and all they said was "It is all here!" A (pointing to the obvious camo clothing stands and walking off). Just about all Redhead tree stand type camo (in Idaho?) with some Sitka here and there. When I went to check out there was only 1 cashier open and over 20 customers standing in line at a social distance to pay. The pay line went from the cashier area all the way back past the bino and knife counter! Finally, dI had to step out of line and go ask an employee if it was possible to add a few additional cashiers so we could all pay and leave with the next hour? So sad how far this company has fallen in their quality and service from the old Cabela's ownership days. Suggest you head over to Sportsman's Warehouse or D&B Supply for your hunting and outdoor clothing needs like I did!!!! They are really happy to see me come in the door! read more

If you ever see me going in to Cabela's it's only for ONE thing because I ran out of fudge. Look for the "General Store" tucked deep in the back corner of this monstrous warehouse. They offer so many delicious assorted candies, jams, jerky, and mouth watering home made fudge. Everyday it is cranked out fresh and on display, they even give you samples and trust me YOU WILL BUY. $3.50 for a generous square is enough for any sweet tooth, what a great deal for immediate happiness! I have not shopped much in the store but I can tell you my thoughts from when I did, just lots of over priced merchandise. That is not always bad if I can go somewhere and get expert advice I for one do not mind paying a bit more. When it comes to the outdoors whether it be hunting, guns, camping, these associates know their stuff. What a joke this place has become since BPS bought them out. Can't say I'm surprised though as BPS has always been a joke. Used to spend hundreds of dollars if not more at Cabela's in years past. Now, I can't even find anything to use my points on. Staff is clueless and don't even know what they have in stock or where anything is. Last week took the cake though when I went in to possibly buy a gun. They won't even take the trigger lock off the firearm because BPS won't let them!!!! I used to spend ridiculous amounts of money here. I have been to a dozen Cabela's locations around the nation and I am fascinated on how awesome their stores are. One of the main reasons I appreciate this store is their commitment to excellence and I love their customer service. Yes you pay for it but I love stores with great return policies. I have had a Cabela's Visa since 1998 and they were more of a mom and pop shop back then. As they have gotten bigger they have lost that mom and pop feel into corporate and it was sad to see the transition. read more

With the merger with Bass Pro shop this store has become less and less about the outdoors men and women and more about the city guy. Their warranty used to be the best but now it's a fight to them to honor their products. I have found myself to be shopping more and more at local shops and also Sportsmans. We used to be able to bring in items that were lifetime warranty and the store would take care of you now you have to send it in and hope in 2 to 3 weeks they decided to honor the product. Sad how this store I used to love shopping at has gone this way. Another complaint I have is they did away with the loyalty card for non credit card holders and never once did I get anything stating this. I had over 150 dollars in points and went to use them Yep that's right not anymore so I lost them. read more

Summary - Buy all of your outdoor needs including guns from a company that cares about its customers and hires polite helpful people! I use to be a huge supporter of Cabela's. Whenever I bought a gun I would buy it from Cabela's. However, my last few visits were awful. There is this over-weight kid at the gun counter. He has curly hair and I think his name is Forest. Well in fairness he is a grown man, but his attitude is that of a child. I put a gun on layaway to spread out the payments. I did not need the gun right away and figured why not take advantage of a policy Cabela's offers to fit better with my budget. Next, Cabela's has a price match policy. I found a gun for 100$ less at walmart. Since I have always shopped at Cabela's I asked if they would price match it. At that time I would have rather given my business to Cabela's over walmart. Cabela's matched the price and I started to make payments on the gun. After a couple of weeks I went to make my final payment on the gun. At this time Forest, remember he was the over-weight man child I mentioned above briefly, changed the price I had to pay. He reverted the price match and for some reason wanted to make me feel like a criminal for getting it at that price. So without going into how this is extremely ILLEGAL and UN-ETHICAL I presented my receipt. After arguing with this under educated baboon for a few minutes his managers came over. His managers then argued with me and a half hour later after being treated like a thief, upper management reminded the poorly trained staff that any price match agreed upon was a legally binding contract and the responsibility of the staff to honor. So that was great, nothing like wasting time to pay the balance off an item you held the receipt for in your hand... So, if Forest is working or if Forest is helping you, expect sub par service. In addition, if in the event he can find a way to screw you out of something legally promised to you, that you have proof of receipt for in your hand, he will try to alter the price to make you pay more for it. It's clean.... and there's guns! So it gets 2 stars just for that. We come in here mostly because Cabelas comes to mind when someone mentions outdoor stuff. But this is the strangest place EVER! We came in about a year ago, to buy two hand guns. We KNEW we were leaving with a Beretta 9, & wanted something else but didn't know what yet. We were TOTALLY ignored at the gun counter, for about 35 minutes. We watched the guys help two others who walked up about 10 minutes after us and they still never offered us help. We complained to the manager and his response was, "they're usually pretty good.... what do you want me to do about it?" We ended up buying from sportsman's later that day. About three months ago we went in with the sole purpose of buying an AR-15. Long story short, we bought it from D&B Supply later that day. Today, we came in to pick up an online order. Figured we could avoid the oddities they employ by ordering. WRONG! We walked in, headed to customer service and the nutty lady in the nut and fudge area hollers at us (literally HOLLERED!!) "CAN I HELP YOU FOLKS?!?!" Us: We have an order to pick up." Nut Lady: "WELL CAN I GET YOU TO PUT THAT ON YOUR NEW CABELA'S CARD?!?!?!" Us: (looking thoroughly confused and checking for cameras and pranksters) ".....it's already paid for...." Nut Lady: ((looks down and continues to work with nuts and never says another word or looks up again)) WEIRD!!! While this behavior commenced, we were privy to a man who spent $150 on a workshop put on in/by Cabela's a few days prior. He was given a coupon while in the workshop, an expired coupon! The manager he brought it to just laughed at him and told him how messed up it was that someone handed those out. NOT EVEN AN OFFER TO HONOR IT! This store is great, the people are really friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They've assisted me with every aspect of fishing and camping that I can think of. It's a bit of a drive for me so I don't get to get in as often as I'd like but that's probably for the best haha. My son absolutely loves the aquarium and testing out all the cots and chairs. DON'T EVER BUY A GUN FROM HERE! I wanted to buy my husband a rifle for christmas and we figured cabelas would be the place to go! Unfortunately the older man had nothing but snotty comments to make to us when we had questions about the different rifles and prices. Then when we finally went to purchase the rifle a couple days later we were helped by Wes and his attitude was HORRIBLE we sat at the counter for 15 mins while him and the other man sat at the counter looking at us and blatantly ignoring us. My husband finally had to walk over to them, interrupt them and ask for some help. He huffed and puffed and slammed the papers around while I signed them. Went into Cabela's today to buy the generator that is in their ad. When I got there I found out not only was the price in the ad not for the generator the is shown in the ad, but they don't even carry the $183.99 generator in the store. This was so frustrating and a waste of time. I went to customer service to explain the situation, after waiting over 20 mins to get a manager to help, they came back and offered to sell us a $463.99 generator and give us a $13.00 discount for the misunderstanding with their ad. I am blown away, that was like a slap in the face! I would rather them have told me there was nothing they could do for me. Where is the integrity and honesty? read more

I can only address the Cabela's in Boise. In general the store is pretty decent in selection and quality both in their own products and those of other manufacturers. However, in the last few weeks with the sellout to Bass Pro Shops things have changed and not all ways for the best. They seem to be going to handling only the large named brands of ammo. The ones you see on the sporting shows. You can no longer get a feel for the weapon you are thinking of buying, especially a hand gun. A Bass Pro Shops policy is to keep the trigger lock on every firearm no matter what and give the purchaser a key that he/she can use to unlock the firearm once outside the store. Since they have not gotten rid of all their Cabela's inventory as of this date, I cannot not ethically rate the replacement inventory, maybe next year. read more

Cabela's, your halo is slipping. The brand is faltering because of the stupidity, arrogance and lousy service of your employees and your out-of-date store policies. I went into the store in Boise yesterday, thinking I would return a $19.95 tripod chair with back support. I had purchased it a few weeks before and used it twice. It came with a nice carrying bag with the Cabela's logo embroidered on the back in big yellow letters. It also had a carrying loop and a velcro loop that was supposed to keep the chair folded for carrying. The velcro was too short and let loose every time I tried to carry the chair on my back. The chair would spring open and became awkward to carry. The carrying loop was also too short and would slip off my shoulder. At the customer service counter, I tried to explain that the quality of the chair did not match what the Cabela's brand stood for, and that they should make sure of the quality before they put their brand name on it. Then he told me that without a receipt, they could only refund the lowest price they had ever sold the chair for AND that would only come on a Cabela's gift card. WTF? In this day and age, I can go into any big store and show them my credit card and the transaction is pulled up on their system, showing what price I paid. Then they give me a receipt crediting my account. But Cabela's has this arcane system from the 1980's where, if they had a sale two years ago and sold the chair for $17.95, that's what I'd receive back on a gift card. I picked up the chair and walked out. What, Cabela's. do you think I'm going to do the next time I want a quality product? I'll go somewhere else. It's that simple. I'm only knocking a star because of some of their things being overpriced other than that I don't know how anybody could be mad at this place! I love Cabela's. I'm in about twice a week. The men in the fishing department are super helpful. I'm a beginner and they will answer all of my questions and give me advice. I recently bought waders on clearance and they had a hole within a few days but I already threw the box and receipt away. Although I thought it was weird they couldn't look up the purchase with our card they simply looked up the product # and refunded us no problem (on store credit) but we are there all of the time so it works. Anyways I'll be shopping here for the Holidays. I hope they start having some more fun sales. I also loved ladies day a few months away. Fed up with this store and the help. The creepy looking germ in the bow section didn't help us on two occasions. We waited over 45 mins on both occasions. The first time he was cutting arrows, second time he was helping a customer, I'm fine with that. But after saying thank you and goodbye five times he continued to talk to him about petty junk. Never once acknowledging us. That joker cost the store over 3k on one purchase. I'm gladly going to take all me future business to sportsman. Unfortunately for you I had a couple guests with me that got a taste of that trashy service and they won't return there either.
