Please bring back the cookie butter ice cream from Mooville. It was the best ice cream I've ever had!!!!!

I was here recently for some ice cream. I tried the amaretto cherry chocolate, the bear claw, and the lemon. They were all very good. I will say that they need to make sure that they are removing the ice crystals from some of the ice cream, as it is not appetizing to look at. The credit card reader does not let you add tips so bring cash if you want to tip the kids. I stopped in some time ago to try some of the new bakery products, not great. I tried the individual chocolate cake and a dry brownie. Neither were great. This was about $14. Trying to get these two pastries seemed to cause some confusion amongst the staff. Probably do not leave a new girl at the register who has no idea what you sell or what is going on. It is nice to have kids working there but there should be someone around who knows what is going on. You staff should know what products you sell so don't leave them at the register before they have any clue what you even offer. And there are not a lot of bakery items to even review with them. This falls on the management and I felt a little bad for the employee. read more

Terrible customer service. The shop was completely packed with customers waiting to be served, but the staff just stood there watching everyone instead of actually helping. It was incredibly frustrating to see a line out the door while the employees did absolutely nothing to speed things up or acknowledge the people waiting. Horrible service and a complete lack of effort. I won't be coming back. read more

Can't go wrong with a giant ice cream and coffee shop! A huge selection of ice cream, including dairy and vegan flavors. I tried their Fruit Salad smoothie, which had a splash of coconut milk, a fruit sorbet, and fresh fruit. It was very refreshing and not too sweet! Perfect to sip on while walking along the beach. The staff were friendly and it's very spacious inside. read more

Great ice cream! We came on a Friday night at sunset and it was very busy. The staff did a great job of keeping the line moving. They have lots of flavors to choose from, even vegan options. I tried the strawberry pretzel in a waffle cone. They also have kid sizes. read more

Great ice cream for a hot day! The line was out the door but moved pretty quickly. One person takes your order and hands it off to get scooped. I got the classic cookies and cream with hot fudge and it was delicious! They do have plenty of flavors to choose from. My cousin got one with banana that I was definitely not a fan of but she liked it. read more

Service was lackluster including daydreaming teenager who then put his entire head of gorgeous hair ...without hat or hairnet ... into the freezer while scooping. i mentioned to the manager who shrugged and said we've had this place 17 years and never worn hairnets. ummm why are other people pinning hair back and wearing hats then? also eewww. watch out for hair in your ice cream folks! Makes you wonder where else they skip on health and sanitation best practices. hope they get their act together before tourist season really picks up! read more

service was okay, the ice cream was good except for the fact i found a dirty blond hair in my ice cream. upon inspection of the team i noticed the hair surfaced from a teenage boy with shoulder length hair, with no hair net. read more

Yes! Another 5 star experience we will once again enjoy! The line was long, and because of their amazing service, my family was able to get our ice cream in just under 3 minutes. The ice cream was very good and the texture was great. The atmosphere was full enjoyment and peace. I give this a perfect 5 star!!! Note: Cabanas is crowded in the evening read more

Walk up those majestic stairs from Silver Beach towards downtown St Joe and chances are you'll see a like straight ahead. It's most likely for Cabanas. A great ice cream/cafe/candy shop located in the heart of downtown. On a Friday night towards the end of summer, there was a queue stretching towards the door. The two employees scooping ice cream were working hard and everyone in line was ready to order so the line moved pretty quickly. Impressive given their massive selection of flavors! We shared a double scoop (~$6 out the door) with pistachio almond and carrot cake--you read that right. Both were super delicious. Great balance of creaminess and sweet with plentiful almonds/pieces of cake. A great treat. read more

Lots of ice cream flavors. We were excited to see they had Michigan Pothole. The soft serve was not available during our visit, but there were plenty of options of hard serve. Fair prices, big portions. read more

We love going to Cabana's whenever we are in the area. Lots of delicious options to choose from whether it's ice cream or something else. Beautiful environment inside and out. The staff work efficiently and they make sure your experience is great. read more

Stopped here twice in one day - first stop was for a coffee pick me up and the second was for ice cream. The short version - coffee was no good - while ice cream was good. It is a good location - right in the middle of town. Very cute decor inside with lots of airy space. The staff is not great - we visiting during the summer, so I am not sure if they were college or high school students? But no one was that friendly or helpful and it looked like it was mandatory they worked there based on their attitude. There were a ton of options from coffee, ice cream, smoothies, Hawaiian ice, snacks (brownies, muffins, cookies, popcorn). There was a menu for coffee flavor add-ins, but the worker had no idea if all the flavors were in stock or not. So it was a guessing game for me if they had the flavors available? The coffee was terrible. I love coffee and can drink pretty much anything but this ice coffee was gross. I asked for Hazelnut flavor and was told they only have sugar free, so I went with vanilla flavoring. I could not even finish the coffee because it had such a strange taste especially after-taste. We came back later in the day, an hour or so before closing. Pretty busy with everyone wanting a sweet treat. Again, the workers were blasé and uninterested in much of anything. There were a ton of ice cream and even some non-dairy options. I went with a kids' cone since it allowed you two flavors - 2-for-1! The ice cream was very good and rich. Overall, mixed review! read more

I've tried to stop by the last 2 days and they have not been open either time. It says they are open until 9pm. I went at 7pm on Tuesday evening and the doors were closed and lights off. We tried again on Wednesday about 2pm. Again they were closed and lights off. No signs on the door as to why. read more

Holy cow their ice cream is amazing. We visited two nights in a row with the family. We loved the espresso hand dipped ice cream. Try it in a shake you'll be amazed. It tastes just like a Frappuccino. The shop has so many ice cream flavors to choose from plus several different soft serve flavors. They even have a gluten-free and dairy free section. While checking out, check out their candy section. After you buy your ice cream head over to the hill just above Silver Beach and watch the sunset. read more

The high schooler types working here are practically the friendliest in the USA. I'd know - since I've been to almost all of it. I have "trying-different-things all summer long" memories of being chased down to eat free watermelon slices there (somewhere along waterfront) and free ice cream scoops here (at this exact spot). I must've swung by here like a decade-maybe-half ago but the ice cream memory is fresh like "oh-I-believe-in yesterday" carefreeness. Anyway, this ice cream is The Beatles quality good. I remember the Blue Moon flavor rocked, maybe so did the Michigan Potholes flavor :) read more

Cabanas is one of many ice cream shops available downtown. While it's not the only place it's definitely the least crowded which I can appreciate as a socially anxious human. I enjoy grabbing actual food here as well. I used to enjoy their pizza and grilled cheese, though I tend to just go for ice cream now a days. I'm a big fan of the s'more ice cream and all their gelato favors. My husband, best friend and nephew have all come here with me and we always enjoy ourselves. I really enjoy the decor and general ambiance of this place. The employees are always chill and quick to help customers. This is the perfect spot for some delicious treats. read more

This is a super cute ice cream shop with lots of flavors and tons of candy. I chose it specifically because they have vegan options, but when I visited they only had sorbet one of which was all melted. I got a cookie instead which wasn't great, but my husband and daughter enjoyed their ice cream cones. read more

Love that they have non-dairy/vegan options besides sorbets! I was super excited to try the cappuccino espresso bean and waited in a long line only to find out they were out. I had the vegan Sugar Cookie instead and it was good. They were out of a lot of the posted flavors (regular and vegan) so I wish they would update their flavors as they run out since the line to order is so long. I think it would also make the line go faster because people could have their order ready based on what's currently available rather than taking time to change their order once they are finally waited on and told their flavor is out. The ice cream is good and the store is very cute. It's also an old timey candy store. I just wish the ordering process went smoother. This is still a great place to check out so close to the beach. read more

Very busy, Ice cream was just ok, soft serve was broken and couldn't order milkshakes either. Overall just ok

Six people & we all loved our ice cream!! There were many options of vegan ice cream, two members of our group enjoyed it. I had banana pudding in a waffle cone, it was amazing! The staff were patient & helpful. In the evening the line is long, but moves at a reasonable rate. Nice atmosphere read more

If I could sum up my experience at Cabanas in one word, it would be YUM! After spending the day on the beach, and walking around all the little shops, something cold and tasty was just what I was looking for! Cabanas offered ice cream, gelato and other chilled treats! The first thing I noticed was just how many options there were to choose from. I went with the mint chocolate chip ice cream in a waffle cone and it was an excellent choice! My hubby had the chocolate chip cookie dough and loved it! Cabanas doesn't have an abundance of seating, but it also didn't feel crammed. It had a very whimsical, ice cream parlor feel to it and also offered outdoor seating at picnic tables. Most of the staff was younger, but all very polite and helpful. I'll definitely choose Cabanas again! read more

I stopped in here with my fam to get us all some ice cream and was a little disappointed when the worker didn't listen to me about what I'd like. I was given an overturned ice cream cone in a cup shoved on top of whipped cream. Ummmmmm not sure what the person was thinking, but it's not like I was going to complain about it, but still, when someone says they'd like whipped cream and a cherry on top, don't flip it over in a cup (see photo). Prices were a bit outrageous and the ice cream was just ok. read more

Stopped by on the 5th of July for my husband's birthday and the door was locked. The sign on the door said it was closing early for employee appreciation night, but the door was locked prior to the time listed on the sign. I just can't understand why an ice cream shop in a tourist town would close early on the busiest week of the season. Very questionable business practice. read more

Would give this place a 0 star by the way the older lady treated us inside. Let me start as we wanted candy only. No need for ice cream. The old lady went into panic mode as she had to move her partitions to let us in. Ok move forward 3 minutes as I grab a jar to poor some candy in a bag. She runs and grabs the jar out of my hand. And states that's white gloves only. I hand her the cap and proceeded to walk out of the store. As I said to her thank you I will take my business elsewhere. She starts yelling at her employee. Now I'm a grown married man with 2 kids who is also in the business of taking care of customers just the correct way. Good job lady. Season is short here and no way to treat a regular customer. read more

I thought this place had a cute vibe and lots of options, but they weren't offering any samples when we were there on a random Thursday afternoon; unclear why. But basically it led to us asking what was in various flavors and then choosing based on description rather than what really hit the spot. The amaretto cherry was the best of the 3 we ordered (also got Blue Moon and Michigan Pothole), but it was missing something to really bring the flavors forward (salt, maybe?). read more

Cheerful staff members greeted me upon walking in and offered samples. There are over 20 unique flavors, I ended up with spumoni. The quality was good, creamy, but not soft and not overly sweet. There's not much seating inside, but on lovely summer days, it's a lot of fun walking around this cute little downtown area of St. Joseph while eating ice cream. Prices are fair, I'd come back again in a heartbeat! read more

Can't go wrong with ice cream in cute St. Joe downtown area by lakeshore. Despite us arriving 15 minutes before closing everyone was friendly. I had two free sample tastes and stopped there. The mini for $2 gives you a decent sized serving without overdoing the calories too much. Many of us opted for that. Of course a double scoop on a cone worked better for teenager. A flavor for everyone. Clean comfortable indoor air conditioned seating. read more

I don't understand how this place is still in business. The ice cream quality is extremely low. Watered down and 100 percent artificial flavors. I've never thrown away ice cream at a parlor before but just couldn't finish my synthetic junk and noticed a lot of people had thrown away theirs, too. read more

I honestly liked the shake I got but the size of a small shake is the same as a small Pringles can and not the price I want to pay for it. I could get a shake that's the same flavor and price but the size of a large fountain drink. I won't be visiting again at least not for the shakes. read more

Delish ice cream at a good value.. We ordered a waffle cone for adult with two scoops. The Dancing with the Stars plus the double chocolate were a perfect match. Get happy with the size. The kids behind the counter could use some work, respectfully. A bit disorganized and distracted amongst each other despite the huge line or the door. Keep it going. read more

There are a lot of ice cream places in St. Joseph and this one can definitely compete with the others! The location is right off the silver beach area next to the bike rentals. Their menu was an overwhelming amount of flavors! I wanted to try them all. I got a fudge brownie soft served in a waffle cone, and my husband got a two scoop mixed flavors in a cup. Hands down the most soft served flavors I have ever seen, and it was not expensive. (I'm also a Chicago girl experiencing the low sales tax of Michigan!) The service was exceptional. The employees made good conversation and recommended a few places for us out of town people! I completely recommend giving this place a try! read more

Can't go wrong with an ice cream shop! Mom and I stopped in for a snack and both got small ice cream cones. Our total was $4.24 or somewhere around there. We were both shocked that we weren't charged an arm and leg like some other shops that would have been $4 a piece! Huge flavor selection, and even the ice creams with nuts that were housed in a separate case, "nut case" to be exact:) I thought that was a nice touch. read more
