This is by far the lowest rated utility company I've ever come across, and after just my first month of having an account with them, it's no wonder. First off, I recently received my first bill in the mail. That's when I learned of a $30 service establishment charge and $75 deposit. Annoying, but not the end of the world. However, after creating my online account to pay the bill, I noticed the Amount Due was higher than my actual statement. No explanation on the website whatsoever as to why that is. Are they just hoping customers don't notice? After digging around the internet, it looks like they decided to charge me a 10% late fee for the deposit and service establishment cost, which I never received a bill for in the mail. I honestly cannot believe this company charges a late fee so quickly to begin with, and at such a high percentage of the bill. I have never heard of that before, and I've dealt with plenty of corrupt companies. Well, I guess this one tops the list. I seldom leave one star reviews, but Irvine Ranch Water District is well deserving of this one. I guess this is how Irvine's water utility company welcomes new members to their community. With a $105 service charge + 10% late fee (before any actual usage). What a shame and disappointment this company is.

I walked toward the technician and kept saying "excuse me," but he completely ignored me and drove away. When I called IRWD right after to explain that I now live here and simply forgot to start service, they still refused to send him back without charging an $80 fee. I understand having policies, but there was absolutely no courtesy or understanding for a new homeowner who was clearly trying to communicate with the technician. The whole situation felt unnecessary and very frustrating.

    My gas went out overnight last night. Got up and took the coldest shower ever. Made the call to…read morethe gas company and was so cheerfully answered by a Ms. Garcia, I surely thought I'd called another company! She quickly listened to what was (or was not happening) with the gas at my home. Then she offered to send a service tech out TODAY (on a Holiday weekend) in a manner which helped me avoid taking too much time off of work. Daniel, the Service Tech, called on his way over and assured me he would be able to help me. 5 minutes later, Daniel's at my meter, trouble shooting and quickly resolved my problem. Daniel made sure that my tankless water heater and stove were working and everything was perfect. With his 14-years in the field, it's easy to see why Daniel does such a great job - he knows his stuff! Kind. Professional. Prompt. Helpful. All in your days work, and you do it well. THANK YOU!

    Called in at 1100 this morning and reported a gas leak at my resident. The agent I spoke with…read moreasked if I could hear a hissing noise coming from the valve. I explained that I wouldn't be able to hear that if it was making a noise but I smelled it very strong. She decided that it wasn't important so she did not put it in as a priority and said there would be an attendant here within 4 hours. I waited and waited and no one showed up. I had to call back and speak to a supervisor to get this resolved. After 7 hours of waiting, an attendant came and had to replace a part. At this time it was completely dark outside. This is totally unacceptable. This is nothing to play with. Do better SoCal Gas Company or come and take this crap off my house and give me Electric. Update: Found out the first agent didn't even put in the request. Useless!

You review when a company provides outstanding customer service and deserves kudos. And,especially, when that company is from an industry that is generally known for poor service. Broken pipe late on a national holiday. Old water valve along street could not be turned off with layman tool. Panic ensued. Our call to SCWD was answered promptly and they responded quickly A field tech arrived in 10 minutes to shut off valve. With a good attitude, even though we interrupted his holiday. He even called later that evening to check in to see how the repair went and if we needed more assistance. The next day, someone from the SCWD customer care department followed-up. She confirmed the leak stopped via their records, etc. For any company this is excellent customer service. For a utility company, this is almost shockingly, outstanding service. Thank you to SCWD for the quick response, courtesy and peace of mind.

He was very clear in advance of his expectations, no surprises. This was wonderful. Ernie is also very communicative. He was reachable by phone. He is very congenial to work with. I could only hope for such an employee, a very valuable team member.
