It was especially helpful having a trusted recommendation for the next phase of the project. We really appreciate their professionalism, communication, and quality of work. This past year- I tried them for our bathroom remodel. What I like most about Erast and his crew are the attention to detail. No - they will not be the cheapest bid you get, but they do really high quality work to very exacting standards. He is very familiar with working in SF and the arduous permitting process you have to go through, Living through a remodel is never fun, but his team is respectful of you / your home and the workspaces were kept immaculate. The roof needed replacement, the balcony was actively leaking, and there was dry rot in several areas of the house. Since I already needed so much exterior work done, it seemed like a good time to add solar panels and have the entire house repainted as well. Armand and the multiple crews he had work on my house did an *amazing* job, and they were pleasant to have around. Armand was very responsive to my questions and requests and gave useful advice. He was patient with me when I panicked, and he did everything he could to make the whole experience as stress free as possible. He coordinated with my solar panel installers to make sure everything went smoothly and the timing of the roof installation worked out, and he rushed to get my balconies waterproofed before it started raining. They used high quality materials, were up to date on the latest techniques and tools, and paid great attention to detail. I could tell they really cared about their work, and my neighbors have all complemented me on how nice the paint job looks. I can finally sleep easy without having to worry about more leaks and dry rot!

Gary was hired to repair water damage to a basement bedroom and kitchen ceiling. His estimate for…read morethe bedroom took 2 weeks; he inspected the kitchen twice and never provided an estimate. Gary's drywall work seems solid, and his suggestion that we add more outlets while we had the walls open was great. In 5 working days, he only arrived as schedule twice, texting me in the morning to change his mind about the other 3 days. He left the room half-painted with a partially disassembled and broken closet door frame. He wanted more money to finish the painting but never provided an estimate for that, either. He also left a trash bag as big as my garbage bin that will take several weeks to throw out with my usual trash. After he saw my poor review, he reiterated that he didn't think he was obligated to finish the painting, but offered to anyway. This was the 4th time he said he'd paint it. By then I had lost faith in Gary, and was working with another painter.

His crews were respectful of tenants in the building, had great attention to detail, and left the property spotlessly clean before completion. This level of construction and repair is not the situation where you go with the lowest bid, his pricing was in the middle of the quotes we received which was absolutely fine considering how smoothly the entire experience went. Trust is a common word but can be difficult thing to actually find. When it comes to a renovation,…read morethere is nothing more important than Trust - trust that the General Contractor you select has the skill to execute your vision, trust that they can deliver on time/on budget, and trust that they will always deal honestly and fairly with you through every phase of the project. After interviewing several firms, we placed our trust in Greg Maxwell to be the general contractor for the remodel of our 3 bedroom 2 bath house. It was a big job, and Greg and his subcontractors got the project completed ahead of schedule and within our budget. He collaborated well with us, and also with everyone else on the project: architect, construction engineer, roofer, and city inspectors. We are extremely pleased with the results of the remodel, and we cannot recommend him more highly. The scope of the main (upper) floor changes included 1) demo'ing the 4 small rooms down to the studs, removing a load bearing wall, and installing a new structural beam with foundational supports, 2) reclaiming an exterior light well to add interior square footage and adding a 2nd floor balcony, 3) rebuilding the space as an open floor plan with new kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom, and office/study, and 4) raising the ceiling. The stairs between floors were rebuilt in a different configuration. Every room in the lower level - 2 bedrooms and a bathroom - was touched in some way, all for the better. This was thus a major project that Greg initially estimated at 6 to 7 months. Thanks to his team's skills and dedication, we were able to move back in after 5.5 months with almost all work done after 6.5 months. The only issue that cropped up after completion of the small(!) punch list was repainting a porch floor due to excessive moisture from the dryer vent. Early in the project, after opening up the roof and walls, we discovered that prior work under a former owner had not been done to code. What could have turned into a major disruption was smoothly handled: Greg accommodated a change order to fix, and still kept to the original schedule! Greg was always available to answer questions or hear feedback regarding the project. His frequent checkins and open communication style ensured that we always knew what was happening, and he clearly outlined what we needed to do on our end to keep the project on track. We also felt that he brought his years of experience to us by offering great counsel at every step of the way. We always trusted that we were in the best of hands. His billing was complete and clearly itemized. We had an amicable working relationship, and we're pleased that the good feeling still endures after the project completion.
