Shawn and his team stripped down our kitchen and pantry to replace all the cabinetry and counters, replaced vanities in three bathrooms and handled flood remediation which happened while they were working on our kitchen. As with most remodels, you open a wall and new problems arise. Add in the flood damage and the project took on a life of its own. Our electrical panel had to be replaced because of water and our new appliances. Despite all the issues between our appliance purchases and our cabinet fabricators, AYA was done in less than two months (which was my estimate). The remodel itself was done two weeks earlier but had to be held up because of my cabinet people. All in all a very satisfactory project. Shawn recently completed a leaking roof deck and door repositioning job for us. I had contacted several deck repair companies and every one of them wanted me to hire someone else to move the door higher before they would fix our leak. I reached out to Shawn on Yelp for a quote on the door and got a whole lot more! He said he could bid on the door but asked why I was hiring different people for one job. Good question! He gave me a quote for the door and he also bid on the whole job. His price was reasonable, and he started only 4 days after bidding. He checked in on his team many times a day and completed the work (removal, torched bitumen deck, flashing, raising door, stucco and finish work) in 2 weeks. No one likes to be around when a "once in a 100 year" storm or flood effects their lives. That's the way I felt as our close-to-a century-old, front, red brick, spiral staircase began leaking 18 months ago. Our half-measures were unsuccessful. We searched for a contractor with workmen who were experienced in such a project. Admittedly, contractors are a confident lot and they all say, "Sure, we can do that." But when I asked 4 different contractors to show me some similar projects they had completed in recent years, they were at a loss. Fortuitously, this past February, '22, we were introduced to Shawn at AYA Homes, LLC, San Francisco, at ssajdari@gmail.com. Shawn took us to a red brick staircase project similar to our own. He and his crew were replacing the front staircase on a West Portal home. Shawn's brick expert was an old school artisan. Over the next week we admired the progress. That was all the convincing we needed to move on a major home improvement project. Shawn submitted a detailed bid and we eagerly signed the contract. When I asked how long it might take, the answer was 3 weeks. In truth it lasted 3 weeks and a day. The crew left our front yard immaculate each night when they went home including during the demolition. Shawn was well organized and all the materials were on hand when needed. The refuse bin arrived the first day and was picked up 3 weeks later. He was accessible and responsive to our E Mails and visited the site daily. City Inspectors approved the Permit. All elements of the contract were met to the letter. Passing neighbors but especially my wife and I find the new stairs a work of art. Believe me, the hardest step in completing such a project is the first step. i.e. finding the right, experienced company to do the job. I am offering you such information. The project involved access via a neighbor's side yard and he took the time to patiently explain the scope of work to the neighbor which calmed her concerns. We had a leak from our outdoor deck that went through a bedroom closet down into the garage. Shawn and his team replaced and repaired the flooring on the deck and sealed up everything and replaced a drain pipe so there were no longer any leaks. They also repaired the interior of the closet and installed a new closet organizer, which I love. There have been no leaks this rainy season since their work was done last fall. We recently discovered a newer leak on the front of our house and called Shawn again to have his team replace the flooring on a balcony that was causing leaks to come into our living room. I contacted Shawn Adjari because I had a difficult project to tackle: repairing the roof under my upper-floor deck. The job required the removal of the deck, fixing the roof, and then reconstructing the deck on top using the original materials. I chose Shawn because he was highly recommended on NextDoor and the estimate he gave me seemed fair given the complexities of the project. I am very pleased with the result. Shawn was very honest about the potential issues that might arise once the deck was removed and that additional materials might be needed to replace decayed wood under the deck. Communication with him and his crew was always great and they were very responsive. Once the team arrived, they worked nonstop all day, breaking only for lunch, and got the job done in much less than the week originally quoted.
