I appreciated that JJJ answered my call, came to my house to give an estimate, and kept me updated along the way. Once I got the estimate, I was able to get the work started. I will say, I also appreciated that the pricing was reasonable as well. I know lumber has gone up in price and I did account for that, but I wasn't comfortable moving forward with something outside of my price range. The work was done on time and completed quickly! Once they were done, I was sent pictures like I asked! Great workmanship throughout. Last year I had a fence blow down on one side of my house (along with most of San Antonio) and I was having a hard time getting a contractor to call me back, much less give me an estimate. Allen not only called me back, he came out and gave me a reasonable estimate and said he would work the job in as soon as he could. I was getting nasty notes from my HOA so this was a big help to me. The work was done on time, on budget, and MUCH better quality than the original builder. I had him give me an estimate on a deck at that time and was impressed out how reasonable it was. Fast forward to now and I am ready to build a deck, and my circumstances and finances allow for a much nicer deck than what he originally estimated. First I went through Home Advisor (which I recommend if you're lonely... you will get all kinds of calls lol) and they sent 3 different contractors out. I sent the first home without an estimate because he wouldn't even give me a quote unless I signed paperwork on the spot. The other two were also VERY high pressure and their quotes were... well they were high (like you have to be kidding high). That's when I remembered I had Allen's card and gave him a call. He came out himself and took measurements, asked questions about what I wanted (one of the other companies insisted on telling me what I wanted) and gave me a ball park quote on the spot. Just based on this experience and the previous work I would highly recommend them, but of course I will update this review once the work is done. (it's 3/16/18 now and I hope to start on it within the next month).

We've been in our home for over a year now. I've waited to write a review because my recommendation…read morecomes with a few suggestions. 1. You will be heavily involved in every aspect of the build. This begins with budget; to me, this is the most important part of the process. No one ever suggests to skip the details. When you're presented with the vendor bids and the opportunity to look them over, do it. There could be 50-100 bids...read them before selecting the vendor...ask questions. Their understanding of what you want in your home may be incorrect; and it's up to you to catch these mistakes. Sometimes, a re-bid is necessary....sometimes the price goes up. But all this is done before a budget is finalized. If you have specific costs related to your area (water meter installation, running utilities, building fees, HOA costs, permits) research that yourself. UBI tries to know every neighborhood's set of requirements, but things change. Don't forget to include soft costs (such as plans, land clearing, hauling off debris, periodic cleanings during construction) in your budget if you are financing these things. 2. If something seems too low or too high, question it. Get outside bids from vendors you know, not just those recommended from UBI. We had a mix of both...I think this worked great. It creates a "checks and balances" system between their vendors and your vendors. Communicate with these guys and establish a trust with them. Of course, before any work is done, have them sign the required agreement and keep on file. Do not pay fully for anything until work is completed to your satisfaction. When things really get going, expect to be on the job site a couple hours each day. (You really have to anyway, in order to lock up the house once doors/windows are in.) 3. Your on-site project consultant (we had Juan)--communicate with him. Juan was so helpful. He offered his suggestions, but still let us control the process. He met with us per the schedule in the UBI binder, which I feel was an appropriate amount of times. If an issue arose, he was available via phone or text outside of those scheduled meetings. If it was a major issue, he'd make it a point to stop by. If we had trouble with a subcontractor not returning our call, Juan would intervene and make it happen. We did not rely on him for simple tasks that we could be doing ourselves...but we knew he was there if we needed extra help. I think he truly wanted our home to be successful. 4. It helps to have a good sense of what you want. Some people need help with picking out paint, fixtures, etc...if you don't enjoy that kind of thing, this process is not for you. You will find it overwhelming because there are a LOT of details. On the other hand, if you can visualize what you want and clearly communicate those details to someone else (*super important*) you will love building a home yourself. Why did we choose UBI? We wanted a specific style of home, different from what we usually see in our area. We also wanted to avoid the markup that a builder charges to oversee a project (some builders take on too much, and they're really not onsite as much as they should be anyway.) Thirdly, we wanted to know our home was quality, and no corners were cut. We built with a popular home builder before, and weren't impressed with the overall quality of work. Though the process can be stressful at times, we got to see our home from the "inside out." All in all, it was a good experience for us. Just accept the roles of Project Manager and Financial Manager from the beginning--it will help you get into the right mindset to complete the project on time and on budget.

At 3:34pm Eddie stated he'll check with office. At 7:06 pm he stated the office had nothing signed by me and for me to check my email. Aug 27 at 7:50 am I sent a screen shot showing that I have not received any Docusign correspondence June and asked who the email address was from so I could reverse search for the email. Aug 29th at 9:46 am, I asked Eddie again to please send the contract. Sept 4th at 5:52 pm, I asked for a timeline again for the contract, materials, work scheduled and eta for completion. I haven't had a response from Eddie since Aug 27th. On Sept 5th at 2:16 pm, I asked to just have my $2600 returned. Sept 12th, 1:31 pm, Sept 14th, 1:20 pm, I texted again, "Hi Eddie, can you please send me your email please. Following up. I'd like for the return of the $2600 since there was never a contract, work started and no follow up, no contact and service rendered. I'm moving in a different direction. Aug 21st, I texted Eddie again asking to please finalize this. As of today, I still haven't received any email, text or refund from DFI, Remodeling, LLC. I need help. I left a BBB complaint today. This is an insurance claim and I need to get the work completed.

AMR fixed half of the sheetrock in my home, patched, repainted, and replaced all the damage, and did an excellent job. Anthony was nothing short of a lifesaver getting his crew to work so quickly after the damage. Earlier in 2020, I used him at my new home where he did interior painting and did a large 3 car epoxy flooring job that came out perfect. Anthony and his crew took their time doing everything right. They stripped the floor leaving for the day to let it dry, did crack repair and let it cure leaving for the day, rolled the epoxy and left for the day, and came back to add the clear coat. They did not butcher the job by trying to do everything in one day, and Anthony did not start the job during a cold day even though he was onsite saying the cold weather would impact the epoxy's ability to stay on the floor (Google confirms this). I had Anthony out the other day to look at a project that my home builder was doing. He looked at everything and didn't charge me a dime. He said the crew was doing the job correctly and didn't try to sell me a job that wasn't needed. Overall, Anthony and his team are very professional, reliable, trustworthy, and very reasonably priced. He's my go-to guy for painting, drywall repair, garage epoxy, etc. You won't go wrong with him and his team. He's very transparent and communicates very well. Highly recommended!

We repeatedly had to point out mistakes, and the attention to detail was not what was promised. Communication was minimal, so we found ourselves checking on the progress daily. Toward the end of the project, the contractor was unable to pay his workers, and they left our home unfinished. We ultimately had to hire another contractor to correct the issues and complete the job. We were left disappointed. I'm sharing this so you can make an informed decision when choosing a contractor.
