If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Van caused an insane amount of stress for my sister in law having several dresses inclusive of her wedding dress altered here. There were several visits where dresses were done incorrectly or not completed at all with no communication or regard for the Bride's time. My sister in law was also supposed to borrow my veil and Van lost it. She was not apologetic whatsoever and quite frankly gave me the indication she could care less. If you have any valued family heirlooms, my advice would be to NOT leave it with them. Hoping this can help another bride and their family not go through what we have. read more

Then as time got closer I used this business because the boutique where I bought my gown referred me to them. Ava Clara Couture is not at fault so let me say that. They were always nice and after this ordeal, I did inform them and strongly urged them to discontinue using Van at C&R Bridal as a preferred vendor. July 22 2022 is when I brought not only my wedding gown but a shorter reception dress for alterations. There was extensive work to be done to the short one and a medium amount needed to be done for my gown. I paid up front in July and we scheduled out 4 dates in the future for fittings and final pick up. After showing up on my initial pick up date (sept 21) for a fitting, and driving 30 min only to be told she had NO progress on either dress, pushing my pick up date 2 more times, on 09/26/22 when she confirmed via text that these dresses would be ready to be picked up, she admitted she should not have taken on these alterations. She stated that the work on removing fabric from the gown was extensive and time consuming. And that my reception dress needed different pieces ordered for it that she was waiting to be delivered. None of that was ever communicated to me. She never kept me in the loop on her plans for alterations or any obstacles she was having until it was too late. I came back on 09/27 when she said again that both dresses would be done only my gown was ready but only because I told her I am leaving with at least one dress That Day! She then asked me why I wanted to get the dresses so soon. Absurd!!! After the fitting that day she casually says I owed her $100 more because of all the extra work on my gown. I told her no ABSOLUTELY not. At this point my wedding was 4 days away and I had no dresses. So I told her due to HER lack of communication and constantly pushing my pick up date without warning and inconveniencing me on the week of my wedding (other appointments pushed, driving 30 min daily, etc) that I was NOT paying her more and that she absolutely needed to finish my dresses priority. She had me come back 09/27 at 8pm to pick up my gown and said the next day (today 09/28/22) that my reception dress would be complete. She said 3pm then 4pm then ultimately 5pm (at different times throughout the day). So not only was she never apologetic, not only did she try to charge me extra after this horrible unprofessional experience, she continued her behavior of misleading me on times to pick up! If you choose to do business with Van, be prepared for deadline extensions without warning so maybe avoid this place if you need things in a timely manner!!! read more

I always come here to have my pants and clothes altered. I typically only get my work dress pants hemmed to fit with my shoes and height but I have gotten a work sheath dress completely altered here that I got on sale 4 sizes too big and it was done perfectly. The prices are reasonable - the workmanship is great - and the turnaround is pretty efficient. Usually for about 5 pairs of pants and a dress it takes a week. I'll continue to come here because I have no reason to take my business anywhere else. read more

I wish I didn't have to even give this place one star. To start, my sister took her wedding dress here and we had multiple problems throughout the process. Van would pull out the wrong dress for her and continuously confused my sister with other clients. A year later I tried with her again, out of desperation, and had a slightly better experience. Probably because it was just a hem job. So I, unfortunately, went back for my engagement photo dress and completely regretted it. To start I called the day I was going to pick the dress up and everyone acted like they had no idea what dress I was talking about (again with the disorganization). One lady said they couldn't find it, another lady said I wouldn't have it back for another week. I asked to speak to Van and she said she would have to call me back because she did not know what dress I was talking about either. She never called back, so I showed up. It had not been touched even though I was supposed to pick it up that day (Monday). I wanted to have it does by the next day (Tuesday) and it still wasn't done when I called. I had a dentist appointment Wednesday so I had my fiancee go to pick it up. She went to pick it up and still it was not done and we were leaving the next day for our pictures. So I had to rush over after my appointment and sit around and wait for her to finish. THIS IS WHEN IT REALLY WENT TO SHIT. I was frustrated and upset with the disorganization and all my time that had been wasted that I asked for a discount and explained to her the reasons I felt that a discount were necessary. She rapped my dress up in her arms and accused me of not wanting to pay. I WOULD NEVER NOT PAY FOR A SERVICE THAT HAS BEEN DONE. But I was not given 100% effort so I did not feel that I should have paid 100% of the price I was originally given (especially since I did not get it the date we originally discussed. C&R Alterations came highly recommended by one of my girl friends who works at Nordstrom. A lot of her clients take their business attire to Van at C&R. My brother also goes to Van at C&R. He takes expensive Gucci suits to her & feels fully confident in her. However, he's never let anyone else at C&R do his expensive items b/c Van is "the one" to take your clothes to. So, when I had to get a very expensive bridesmaid dress taken in a whole size, I went to Van. She did a great job! And the price was reasonable. If you want to see Van specifically, just call ahead that day to make sure she's there. C&R is great for regular items as well, not just dressy items. I was so upset!! I knew of Van since she has done a lot of work for my grandma in making her beautiful dresses. Van worked so hard on my dress and it was everything I had dreamed of. She moved the waist line up, hemmed it, deconstructed and reconstructed the entire top, and added an insert to the bust and had my dress for me on time! I've not had anything major done, but I've brought quite a few small jobs to C & R and they've done an excellent (and quick) job for a very good price. I think a lot of people don't realize how affordable it is to get their favorite clothing pieces altered or repaired. It's less than $10 at C & R to get a pair of pants hemmed, for example. I've had a sweater repaired and some patches sewn on my daughter's martial arts uniform there as well. I was happy with all of their work. Also, I like their little dressing rooms up front. They have you try on the items usually and pin in front of a mirror. read more

I don't like to leave low reviews on locally-owned businesses, but this place dropped the ball one too many times. I should say that the very first time I went here there was a man arguing with one of the seamstresses about an item of clothing he'd dropped off. He was angry because they'd had it for a week and it still wasn't done even though they'd promised it would be. That conversation turned out to be ominous of what to expect from C&R. More often than not, my clothes are not ready on the date they give me. I don't think it's unreasonable for expect a finished order in a week if they'd promised a week. If they say "by tomorrow at 6", they should be finished by tomorrow at 6. This is basic business practice. I've taken my business elsewhere. read more

I took my wedding dress to C&R to be altered. I dropped the dress off in March to be picked up in June. However, when I went to my follow-up appointment in early June, absolutely nothing had been done. Not only that, but the woman was unfriendly and disrespectful, blaming it on me that I had "selected that dress." On the day I was scheduled to pick up my dress, I received a text 1.5 hours before my appointment when I was told there was approximately 8 more hours of work left to be completed on my dress, and again, no apologies. The work was eventually completed, but I was a day late picking up my dress, which affected my plans to travel for my wedding. The customer service was absolutely terrible and created a very stressful experience for me. I highly recommend taking alterations elsewhere. read more

The alterations are excellent. Van gives honest advice about whether or not a garment is worth fixing or how best to do it to make it fashionable and the outcome is always beautiful . . . but the timing is not. No matter what date I am given for completion of the order, it is a good month, even six weeks or two months, afterward when the alterations are ready. When I call to check on orders, I am told that they are extremely busy and don't want to do a poor job. They just don't have a handle on their workload. If you are not in a hurry, I would bring anything to them. But if you are on a deadline, I definitely would look elsewhere. read more

Do not take your wedding dress here. My appointment was cancelled on me three times, and when I did go in, she was 20-45 minutes late every single time. I went in for 3 appointments before giving up. I ended up just leaving with my dress 3 days before my wedding, and I was very disappointed with the outcome. The dress looked better on me when it was too big and pinned in place, and I would have rather worn it that way than how it looked when C&R was finished. I brought my wedding dress in a month early from the date of the wedding just like they said. I came at the time specified to pick up my dress a month later and they hadn't even started! They told me to come back in a week. No apology for not finishing. They also made me pay up front which I regret and now know better. I came back in a week and they did the alterations but the underskirt was longer than the front of the dress. They had to fix it and told me to come back the next day before closing. This is all going on between me and the owner. I come back at the designated time the next day and nothing had been done and the owner isn't even there. They told me to come back the next day. What if my wedding was the next day? Fortunately it wasn't but at this point I was seething but the lady who was there barely spoke English. Luckily my mother can speak some Vietnamese and got them to fix the dress that day but then I noticed there is a PEN mark where they must have marked the dress for alteration. They refused to take responsibility. DO NOT GO HERE. They are unprofessional and not worth the stress. My dress was also very wrinkled after the alterations and their steamer was broken. So i left with my altered dress a week and a half after they said they'd have it done with pen marks and wrinkles. read more

I dropped my dress off almost two months before my wedding. I had three follow up appointments scheduled with Van. The first being two weeks before the wedding. On the day of the first appointment she text me two hours before my appointment asking if I could come in three hours later than planned. I told her I could not because I had to be at work. So she just cancelled that appointment and told me to come to my next one. Which was a week later. So I dropped off my dress two months before the wedding. And I don't even get seen for the first time till a week before! And barely anything had been done! She accused me of losing too much weight so she had to take in the lace more. But the inside fit perfectly? If I lost weight then that would be loose too not just the top layer of lace. And then made it seem like a favor that she didn't charge me to fix it! She added in another appointment because she cancelled my first one and one hour before the appointment she asked to reschedule to two hours later than planned. I told her yes and showed up. NOTHING HAD BEEN DONE besides the taking in of the lace. She finished marking where to take in the lace on the sides and cut the bottom for the hem. I had my third appointment with her and 15 minutes before my appointment she text me asking if I can come in two hours later than planned. I told her no that I am already on my way. The sides are done but she spends the entire time replacing the hem she placed at my previous appointment. I am supposed to be picking up the dress at another appointment later today. We will see how that goes. Update: she asked me to come back at noon the next day and get it instead. Then at noon the next day she tells me it's going to be at least another hour. I gave her 400$ and two months to fix my dress and she didn't even start working on it until maybe two weeks before my wedding. And changed EVERY SINGLE appointment I've had with her within one to two hours of the appointment. DO NOT GO HERE EVER. She is extremely unprofessional and doesn't care about your time. I paid upfront and wish I hadn't. I would have taken my dress somewhere else. Yes the dress is done now (3 days before my wedding) and beautiful but you could get someone else to do it with MUCH LESS stress to you when you're trying to finish planning for a wedding. read more

I brought my wedding dress to Van at C&R alterations after having used her business for several bridesmaid dresses and work pants. Van is amazing. She quickly assessed where my dress wasn't fitting me correctly and worked quickly and efficiently to alter it. The end result - it fits like a glove, feels amazing, and her workmanship was incredible. She is fun to work with and so welcoming. She worked tirelessly at a complicated bustle to make sure it fell just perfectly. She even invited me to drop in if I needed it steamed again right before the wedding. Oh - another thing. I brought in my mother's veil that I wanted to repurpose into a more modern style (the 1970s made some serious headpieces - no longer the style!). She gently washed the old lace and veil, and was able to reconstruct a new, smaller comb attachment using the original materials. Gorgeous! Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the work. I've taken a couple of bridesmaids dresses to Van, and she is amazing. In one of the weddings I was in (May 2011), our bridesmaids dresses bulged out in the front because of the pleating, and made us all look pregnant! We went to Van and she basically remade the front of the dresses, and we all looked and felt amazing. One of the bridesmaids lives in New York, and Van accommodated our crazy schedule by altering her dress in two hours! She is wonderful and very talented. My wedding dress was way too long, and every seamstress I took it to for hemming told me they could not hem it because the dress had very intricate lace detailing at the bottom; they told me that if they hemmed it, they would cut off the lace and throw it away. At the suggestion of my wedding planner, I took the dress here to C&R Alterations. Van, the seamstress, was incredible. To hem it, she actually cut all around the lace to preserve it (which was a lot of hard work because it was irregularly shaped), then she hemmed the bottom, and then she sewed the lace BACK ON. She also noticed things about the way the dress fit that no other seamstress had noticed. Before she ever did anything, she always pinned it first to show me and she listened to my opinions. As the months passed, I kept losing weight in preparation for the wedding. It seemed like every time I came to an appointment, she had more work to do because of my changing weight. She really went above and beyond and I have nothing but amazing things to say about this place. I felt so beautiful in my dress on my wedding day and I know she played a huge part in it. Do not take dry cleaning there. I can not believe I went there. I took my husbands beautiful NEW Tommy Bahama shirt to be dry cleaned. He had worn it ONCE for my birthday dinner. Such a beautiful sky blue color. He had about three small stains that I pointed out to the Asian lady. She was very sweet and said they would take care of it. NOT!!!!!!!! What a nightmare!!!!! I picked up the shirt and it was awful. The stains all had huge circles where they obviously used spray to take out the stain. Colors were ruined! She knew I was heartbroken and said they would try again. Well it came back the same. Spots were where spots never were in the first place. Oh such a beautiful expensive shirt. So I asked for them to pay --- oh no!!! Then I asked for my dry cleaning money back --- oh no! So then I told her I would have to tell everyone what her business did. I called at 9:30 pm in hopes the phone would be answered & it was!! She let me bring in a uniform to get a stripe sewed on this late at night because I needed it the next day. What great customer service & she was happy to see me when I got there. I thought since it was so late I would be charged much more than the normal price, but she charged me what she would have during the day. Unbelievable!! My best friends wedding is coming up. One bridesmaid took her dress here to have the same things done to hers I needed to mine. Dress was done within the week and cost her about $70. I take my dress there. $100 and some change later... I go to pick it up a week later; not done. They didn't even start on the hem. They tell me to come back the next day... I did. The dress was wrong. Another week later I come back, it isn't done come back tomorrow. I was busy so three days later.... I go to pick it up and nothing was changed to the dress. Then they decide to fix the hook that was supposed to be put at the top of the dress on the spot. Well, then it was a little right so she proceeds (without permission) to take a razor blade and literally rip the entire inside lining of my dress, not changing how the dress fit at all.... But now ruining a $200 dress with a wedding this Saturday . 4 days away. She said "that's all I can do". So I spent over $100 for you to pretty much just ruin my $200 dress and not fix it. Awesome will NEVER use them again. I can understand messing up a pair of pants or something but a brides maids or wedding dress, that's unacceptable as the other person on here wrote as well. I'm following through with a civil suit . read more

Van has done great work for us in the past but we will NOT be returning customers any longer. I brought her a dress to be altered to for a wedding. She said she could have it completed with a quick turn around. $200 later the day before the wedding & the dress isn't done. She tells me to come back the morning of the wedding & it will be complete. Come the next morning- NOT DONE. She tells me that she can refund me my money. I said absolutely not that she would have to at least rig the dress so that I would be able to wear it to the wedding without it falling apart. Then I would bring the dress in after the wedding to have her complete it. Bring the dress back and she tells me it will be done in a month. A month & a half later STILL NOT COMPLETE. I finally told her to just give me my dress back & I will find someone else to finish it. She insists she will finish it & deliver to my office the next day. That she finally DID follow through on...but overall a poor experience and bad customer service. I think she has taken on too many jobs/clients & has over promised many people. We will not be going back. Not worth the stress, time and hassle. read more

I am not normally one to write a review, but this is well deserving! I brought my wedding dress in a month before I would need it, which is what I was told to do. I needed it by July 8th because we were leaving the morning of the 9th to drive home to Colorado for our wedding. She told me to come in on July 7th for my final fitting and then I would be able to pick it up on the 8th. I live in Norfolk near the base so it was a little bit of a drive but I didn't think it would be a problem. She wanted full payment upfront which I wasn't comfortable with so we worked out I would give her half in cash when I dropped off the dress and the other half when I picked it up (so happy I did this!!). About two hours before I was suppose to arrive on the 7th she texts me saying to come in an hour later than what we scheduled, I had an appointment so I couldn't so I showed up at our original time. When I arrive she tells me that she hasn't even started my dress. I was suppose to be picking it up to take home the next day! She tells me to come back the next morning at 9,my hands were tied at this point so I agreed to it. I show up the next morning and she tells me she still hasn't started it and to come back at 3. Huge inconvenience since 1. I don't live anywhere near there and 2. I had packing and things i needed to get done and 3. i needed it that day! Again hands are tied so I agree to come back at 3. When I show up she tells me she has finished all her other projects and now the rest of the evening is to work on my dress...and to come back in an hour or so after she has started it. We played this back and forth game a few more times and needless to say I finally left the shop at 10pm with my dress. I was exhausted and so upset. She didn't get the other half of her money to say the least, and I am glad she didn't because the bustle on my dress ended up breaking about half way thru our wedding reception.
