With over 40 years of knowledge and experience, Mark knows transmissions like some people know sports statistics. His shop was recommended over 10 years ago and I trust no one else with my two vehicles. No BS, just a straight talk assessment of what's wrong and what, if anything is necessary to repair it. This trip was prompted when I spotted a little tranny fluid on the driveway under my Corvette. Dropped it off with a friend to pick me up. He even had Brian take a test drive to put Kevin's mind at ease about a noise coming from his high-milage minivan...NO CHARGE!. My Vette, not so lucky. The original 38-year-old rear seal was failing. Mark and Brian's accurate diagnosis caught the problem early enough to potentially save me $1000's in future repair costs. Also found an exhaust leak and recommended a couple local shops to get estimates to have that welded. Don't have to visit C&M often but when I do the service and turnaround time always meets my expectations by exceeding my needs. read more

Very honest up front transparent business. Mark gave us the details without holding back, pulled the band aid off. helped us to move forward armed with good upfront info. We'll be bringing all our transmission work in the future when needed. when the opportunity(s) provides, i'll be recommending them in the future. read more

Mark was great. We had transmission replaced on Jeep Wrangler. They explained what went bad in the original transmission and explained clearly everything they did in replacing it. Great service! read more

I thought it was a transmission issue, it wasn't. He only charged me 1 hr . Very fair, nice guy. My mechanic recommended him.

I am really sad to update my review, because Mark is a very kind gentleman. However, based on the events of the last few weeks, I do feel that we were misled and that our new transmission was set up to fail. As you can see from my prior review, I replaced the CVT transmission in our Nissan about a year and a half ago. Imagine my surprise when my fiance called me from about an hour and a half away from home to tell me our car suddenly lost power. No prior symptoms, no issues... Just dead on the freeway. I immediately suspected that the transmission had failed, so I called Mark at C&M, who told me it "probably" was the transmission again but he couldnt see it for about a week. I asked him how that makes sense when we have only put 25,000 miles on the car but he didn't have an answer. Because we couldn't wait a week due to our work schedules, I towed the car to my trusted mechanic. They told us that they couldn't replace the transmission at their shop, but it was apparent that it did not have enough fluid in it and there was no leak. They said it was almost half empty of fluid and that the shop that installed it likely did not check the fluid levels. I then towed it to the dealership at the recommendation of the shop I went to, where they asked me why I didn't just get the transmission from them since it's the same cost with triple the warranty. I had no idea that the warranty is lessened when another shop installs the transmission, and I am frustrated that this information was withheld from us to make a sale. Ultimately, the Nissan mechanic was also confident that the transmission was installed without an adequate amount of fluid. We are devastated that the transmission from C&M, which ran us $5500, only lasted a quarter of the time they are expected to; ultimately, this has become a massive financial hardship for us. All of this to say that when I can trust a dealership more than a mechanic, that mechanic will no longer have my business. read more

Brought my 25 year old T Bird with clanging and bucking transmission issues to C&M. Mark and team are no nonsense serious transmission experts. They were 100% honest with the upfront expected diagnosis and did all they could to save me money. He kept me updated on the diagnosis and repair regularly. Just go the car back with a new pcm - - and the car works great. Thank you Mark for the 5 star service. read more

Just dropped off a 1955 belair with Mark yesterday, and recieved a call to let me know that the leak it was having was just a dipstick issue and nothing else he could see. I have to say, he is a very honest guy and could have easily said it was much worse than it was. It's tough to find honest shops and reliable. I could tell by just meeting him briefly and shaking his hand, that he was a straight shooter. I have no doubt that I will have another transmission that will need his services in the future. And I will definitely recommend him to anyone here asking for a good and honest transmission shop. Thank you again Mark David Martinez CEO Martinez Industries Co. read more

An incredibly honest and straightforward mechanic. Not once but TWICE, I brought cars to Mark and the first time with my Camry Mark quoted me three hundred dollars for a job Midas wanted $1800 for. And today, I brought another car to Mark who turned my business away and referred me to another auto mechanic because the transmission is fine. Mark also inspected my transmission for free. So sweet! I will always start with Mark when dealing with transmission repairs in the desert because he's trustworthy, reasonably priced, nice, and good at what he does. read more

I called C & M Transmissions to see if they could work on a Motor Home Transmission, which they could not. However, They were willing to answer some questions about the transmission which was very helpful to me. I thank them for spending the extra time to help me, even though they knew I would not be using their services. read more

My husbands transmission went out in his 2012 Nissan Frontier. Nissan wanted to charge approximately 6,300 for a rebuild transmission. Mark did it for a few thousand less. Highly recommend. We are very happy with and his communication about labor and parts. Any transmission needs C & M is the place to go read more

As a woman I feel like every time I walk into a mechanic's shop I enter with a giant target on my forehead. I'll admit that I know how to fill the tank, check the air in the tires, read an oil stick... and that's about it. I feel like these guys see me coming and they start to plan their next family vacation. I presented Mark with my embarrassing impressions of the sounds that were coming from my car and like a Grease Wizard he was able to diagnose my problem. Where others had suggested these sounds were an indication of a ca-put transmission, Mark assured me it was an easy fix. Wait. Instead of bending me over and reaming me for a new or rebuilt transmission you report you can fix it? Honesty, at a garage? Is this new? He could have easily convinced me a new tranny was the only option and I would have whipped out a credit card and cried myself to sleep. He didn't do that. He didn't take advantage of a chick with limited mechanical know-how. This place restored my faith in (mechanical) humanity. read more

I went in on a Wed. and the shop was busy so Mark told me he could check out my car next week. The following Tuesday I called to confirm I was bringing my vehicle in for the check up. Mark told me he was already booked for the week and couldn't help me. He proceeded to say, he never told me to bring it in the following week when it was exactly what he said. He was not truthful! I had waited without a car for those days when I could have brought it to someone else.... That is poor business practices. read more

I had been to C & M transmission about a year ago and the reason for this review a year later was because of the warranty on the rebuilt transmission was 12 months or 12,000 miles on my 2004 ford f-150 and wanted to post a review based on the quality of the repair. It is one thing to have a nice interaction with the business at first but the real test is time. Especially when it comes to your vehicle that you depend on a daily basis. I do not have have one complaint about C & M they were very professional and the most important thing they did a quality job. read more

Mark gave me great service, and a great warranty. Better than any other transmission co. In the valley. As owner of Lend A Hoof Equine Rescue I highly recommend C&M Transmission in Cathedral City. Bob Green read more

Well. I don't know about these other reviewers on here and they seem to not be regulars on yelp with limited reviews!!!!!! So here goes. I took in my classic Buick had leaks. They fixed it well (to be determined). No leaks so far on garage floor!!!! During the process I got a call for a new overhaul of my transmission due to shavings noted. Quote I believe was over $2100.00 so I differed it till the baby blows. Let's see how long I can go. The car only has 55k on it transmission sounds and drives fine ! So trust is an issue! read more

Mark knows transmissions - honest, personable & reasonable. The overdrive housing on my Dodge Ram 3500 had a hairline crack and was dripping transmission fluid. The mechanic who'd diagnosed the problem sent me to Mark. Mark allowed me to provide the needed parts and was very generous with his time. He was patient with me and explained everything he planned to do. I'd come to Mark again with any transmission or clutch problem - he is a true professional with lots of integrity. read more

I owned a perfectly restored 1957 Ford Thunderbird that is the source of much enjoyment. I recently began to experience transmission slippage. I did my research and checked for reference and the name C & M Transmissions came up frequently. I contacted the owner/operator Mark Newland. When I met with Mark in person it only took a few minutes to conclude that I had arrived at the right place. Mark is an extremely knowable transmission specialist and it is obvious in conversing with him. He also is a person that I immediately felt comfortable with for his sense of values and ethics. I went into his garage thinking I would need a $4000.00 plus trans overhaul, but Mark subsequently identified an internal component failure that got me back on the road for less than 10% of the cost. If you're looking for an experienced, knowledgeable, honest and professional mechanic....this is your place. It's not often I recommend someone 100% without reservation, but Mark is the exception.....And I feel very fortunate to be able to rely on him. Thank you so much!!! read more

I went here yesterday for transmission service. Mark was great! His price is MUCH lower than others and he even charged less than he quoted me, and refused to take anymore! I love honesty, and can see why he has so many great reviews! He also referred me to other businesses to do my Tuneup. Thanks Mark! Honesty is always the best Policy! read more

These guys are the best. Beat everyone else's prices and got the work done quickly. I would definitely recommend to anyone.

Thanks Mark! I did my research before going to a trans shop and C & M was highly recommended. Got my Jeep up and running which was shifting hard and slipping pretty bad. Mark diagnosed a bad transmission pressure sensor and after the repair was made he got it running smooth again. My Jeep has 170k on it so I'm not under the illusion that this fixed it 100% but it gives me some time to save for a rebuild. Mark is a very affordable and a very competent technician that you can trust. Wanted to add one thing. I am a tech in a different field but I do troubleshooting and I know with electrical/mechanical issues there are a lot of things to consider especially when there hasn't been an outright failure. I may make a recommendation to have work done and the part may not fail immediately but it shows all the signs of an issue and it's just a matter of time. This is what Mark does so when he recommended a trans rebuild I know that I am on borrowed time and appreciate the forewarning and look at it as a heads up not a sales tactic. From one tech to another I truly appreciate all the time that Mark spent on my vehicle. read more

What an AMAZING Transmission shop. Extremely honest, upfront and knowledgeable about what needs to be done. I have referred my brother and one of my good friends and their issues were fixed without guess work. I have known Mark since around 2002 and he has always been honest and trustworthy with all of my vehicles. I will always be going to him and I will always be referring people to him also. Thanks Mark for everything you have done for me. read more

C&M Transmission is the only company in the Coachella Valley I take my vehicles to for transmission and rear-end service. Mark is very honest and very knowledgeable. He will put your interests and finances far before his own. I could heap much more praise on C&M Transmission instead if you have any rear-end or transmission issues go see Mark. read more

We purchased an older camper van. Not sure about the transmission. Our neighbor suggested C&M Transmission. Said they have been around a long time and they were honest. Mark said to give him an hour. Figured I would wait around. They checked out the transmission, the alternator, battery, etc. Mark said the transmission is fine and what I was experiencing was the cooling fan which was doing what it was supposed to do. He told me what to keep my eye on. There was no charge and I was out within 40 minutes. I know women are always concerned about being ripped off by automotive shops. These guys are honest! I highly recommend them! read more

This is a mechanic you can trust. Mark is one of the most honest mechanics I have ever met. My jeep is a Frankenstein yet he treats it with such care and love. He actually sent my transfer case through the parts washer three times to make sure it was clean - before he did the transfer case rebuild. He also did a maintenance on my transmission. Every time I visit, he is personally driving each and every car to make sure that the work was done correctly. He spends the time to talk to you about what's going on, what he finds, and what he's doing. I've never seen a mechanic take such personal pride in his work. Im so impressed that Mark is so willing to spend time with you to discuss your vehicle. Highly recommended. read more

I was referred to C&M by my trusted Mechanic at Desert Classics in Palm Springs and I'm very impressed. Mark was very honest & straight-forward with his advice. He was polite and patient, despite how busy he was. He took in my car promptly, diagnosed it thoroughly, expressed his advice on its issues and had it ready for me to pick up in a matter of a few hours at a very reasonable cost for the diagnosis. We decided that my car is not worth repairing to the extent that it needs. But I highly recommend this place for efficiency, expertise, honesty and fair price! Thank you, Mark! read more

Mark is outstanding. He's talented, honest, on time and VERY reasonable...he fixed the clunking noise coming out of our transmission that AAMCO probably would have charged us $1400 for, for only $45.00. Who does transmission work for $45 ???. Granted it was a "simple" fix, (simple if you know what to do) but if you want to trust your transmission to someone else, go ahead. Just Outstanding service here. Thanks again Mark. read more

Mark @ C & M Transmissions is as honest as the day is long! He and his team have worked extensively on my classic car, adding not only great service but expertise and advice. Mark's work is always "on time" and well done. When there was a follow-up repair required which is not unusual with classic cars, Mark made the repairs quickly and even though the initial work was well over the warranty period he would not take a cent! I can't recommend Mark enough! read more

Great place -- honest, fast, good work. We just took our Toyota Camry there to be repaired. The Toyota dealer wanted to replace a (supposedly) broken transmission and radiator. Mark at C&M got the transmission working without needing to replace it -- saving us a huge amount of money. Thanks Mark!! read more

What a wonderful business! Mark, the owner, is not only smart but extremely ethical and trustworthy. He put in a new transmission for us last year. We went back to I=him last month after the engine blew and was acting up. He kept the car for 2 days, cleaned the transmission and checked other areas. Now everything is running great. Tis is an honest, ethical business which is rare to find these days. Thanks! read more

Mark is a true mechanic, he won't just install a part, he fixes what is wrong with the vehicle. He's the only mechanic I trust enough to say: "whatever it is, just fix it" The work has always been completed on time, and i've never had a problem with the price. read more
