Calvin to the rescue and what a rescuer he is! My external hard drive decided it had had enough and was ready to take a long rest, taking 10 years or so of backed up work with it. I thought I had also been backing up the work into the cloud only to find out that nothing had backed up to the cloud like I had been paying for, for years. After a good spell of panic, despair, and more panic I looked on Yelp for a miracle worker and saw that Calvin was highly rated for bringing computers back to life. I called him and he said to bring the external hard drive in and he would see what he could do. I dropped it off on a Friday and got a call from him less than a week later that he had been able to restore the data. He was quick, efficient, and very, very reasonable in terms of pricing. I now can breathe a little easier knowing I don't have to reconstruct 10 years of work. I also learned how to correctly back the external hard drive up to the cloud so life is grand right now! They don't get any better than this. My old XP had a cursor problem as well as a few viruses and a bad memory (sort of like me). With a little added memory, a new cursor, and shucked of the trojan horses, it's humming along now almost like new. I've never had to take my hard drive in for repair before and am SO happy I can salvage another year or two out of this one. Like others, I had problems with them not starting the work when they said they would. I had a laptop fail and brought it to them. I told them immediately that it was out of warranty, and that I was coming to them because I couldn't wait for a licensed repair. I asking them to fix it as soon as possible. They said they would order the part and start work immediately. They said it would take about a week. After a week had passed, they called me to say "yes, it's broken, do you want us to start fixing it?" Annoyed, I said "yes" and they said it would take another week or so. After that week had passed, and they didn't make the promised calls, I called and they told me they hadn't done anything because they were trying to see if it was under warranty so they could send it out. At this point I had to go out and buy another computer because it had been so long, so I decided to let them continue fixing it. It ended up taking well over a month. I did eventually get it back in working order, but I was also distressed by the amount of disorganization I saw. I got back a different power cable than the one I came in with, and there seemed to be parts from different laptops strewn across the work area. (This wasn't really a big deal to me, but it did leave me wondering what else might have gotten mixed up.) During this process, I also came by to try to buy an item from their shelves. I called first to make sure that they would have it, but was told when I arrived (less than a half hour thereafter) that they couldn't sell it to me because they didn't know how much to charge for it and there was no way to find out except I could come back when the owner was there. They could not, however, tell me his schedule. Needless to say, I went somewhere else. I do think they are technically competent, and the prices are reasonable. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this shop unless you have no concerns about how long your repairs might take. Were they to ask for my business advice, I would advise that they hire a consultant to help them overhaul their business processes, possibly by using CRM software or hiring someone part time to make sure all promises are kept and that all work is done in an orderly way and as promised. They're not bad people: they're just a bit disorganized. read more

I don't write Yelp reviews much, but when I do it must have been incredibly horrible or magical. My laptop is not FULLY "FIXED". The hinge area is still broken. I chose to go to this guy to support his small business but I was definitely screwed over, 2 hours turned 1 month. Very Irresponsible and Unprofessional guy. He would not admit to his mistakes. He took his sweet time on my computer for a simple cover replacement. He neglected to give me a call regarding the wrong parts that i had brought in, which he took a week to tell me was wrong. Looked for the right hinge for a week, and yet it took him another week to tell me the entire cover was false. I then looked for the right part myself because the quote he was giving me was OVERPRICED. PLUS, after FINALLY replacing my computer he said it wasn't working, I saw there was a blue screen and I had told him it was working fine when i brought it in. P.S. I NEEDED THIS LAPTOP FOR SCHOOL and barely got it back two days ago and its FINALS week. P.S.S. Did not diagnose my laptop the day off, which could have prevented his 2 month hold. BROKEN PROMISES; his 2 hour promises and him saying he'll finish it within the day. Even though I told him i'll stop by tomorrow and yet failed to give me a call when before I stopped by his store to tell me he was not finished. I gave 2 extra days. But hey if you have time in your hands and he chooses to not brush off your issue, good for you. read more

Professional, honest and all around nice guy. I came in with a crashed hard drive (hardware issue) and Calvin was able to recover the data I asked for within a reasonable amount of time for a reasonable price. These jobs are typically not cheap but the price was fair and there is no chance I would have fixed this on my own. It was also nice to be able to use someone local and meet them in person so that I know who I am dealing with. If I had an issue in the future I'd definitely go to Calvin first. read more

About 2 weeks ago, I had an external HD failure with over 25,000 photographs, and had been a little laissez-faire about backing up (last full backup was last July 2018), and I have done a lot of work since then. I will preface this saying I don't think it is entirely fair for me to review this place as I did not end up using them so this review does not reflect the quality of their work. I had been away and not used my laptop for six months. Upon returning I realized a large amount of photos were missing and couldn't find them anywhere, they seemed to have just disappeared from what I could tell about 6-8 months ago. Based on the reviews I emailed this company. On their website it says they will get back to you in 1 business day. I ended up sending them 2 emails over a week and never heard back (it is now almost three weeks from when I sent the emails and never heard back). I had emailed because I felt it would be easier to explain over email and I could be sure I included all details about the computer, the situation and what I had done to look for them (that the folders weren't hidden, files weren't in the trash or had been moved to another folder). So I called the company and explained the situation. The gentleman that answered had me go through the steps to make sure the folders weren't hidden. Then when he heard the folders weren't hidden he told me there was nothing they could do and that was the end of the call and nothing more was said. It would have been nice if he had provided an explanation as to why they could not do more or just to have a bit more to say than that such as due to the length of time they have been lost or we don't perform that type of service. Also during and after my explanation the gentleman on the phone did not ask me any types of questions in regards to my problem to try and get more information. After this I did contact two other companies. Both initially said that it was very unlikely that anything could be recovered but that if i wanted to try they could run some recovery software. I did take it to another place and they were actually able to recover the photos. My problem has nothing to do with them not being able to perform the service but more in the customer service I received while trying to find this out. read more

This is one of a dying breed of small neighborhood computer repair shops run by a friendly guy named Calvin. I was in there yesterday to get some help with a computer I'm building. In about half an hour he figured out a problem that would have taken me hours. And I'm the guy my friends ask for help. After talking to him for a while I'm convinced he knows his stuff. Look out Calvin - I now have somewhere to send those friends. And his prices - I don't know how he stays in business. His prices are very fair and twice he suggested cheaper ways to do things and *discouraged* me from buying a part from him. The one downside is C & C is small and doesn't have the selection of the big stores. However they make up for that with great prices and a level of service you don't see too often anymore. Unlike most of those big stores Calvin actually knows what he's talking about. And he'll order anything he doesn't have in stock. read more

Calvin is amazing! I needed to take my laptop to him twice, first to find out why my laptop battery was not getting charged and then again to get the power jack replaced after it was delivered. Unfortunately, the problem was in the mother board and the replacing power jack did not help. But, Calvin did not charge me for the 2nd visit. Calvin at C&C has been great, both times I've taken computers to him. He knows his stuff, and seems genuinely focused on getting you the most bang for your buck. The first time I went in was about a year ago, when I brought in my 2008 MacBook. I wanted to remove the optical drive and install an SSD in its place. Having never really dove deep into the innards of a computer (with the exception of upgrading RAM), Calvin was very helpful in giving me the proper instructions to get this bad boy installed. I then proceeded to do the install on my own and when I came across some problems, I brought my MacBook in and yet again, Calvin was awesome. He gave me a private consultation and explained to me the proper way to do it. With his help, I got my computer up and running and have had no problems since. As hard as I pushed, Calvin refused to charge me a penny for his help. After this great initial experience, I referred him to my boss at the time, who wanted a similar upgrade on his MacBook Pro. He wanted to increase his internal storage, and also possibly add in an SSD. Yet again, Calvin was as helpful as could be. He outlined all of our options, and eventually decided to go with a 2TB HD and a 512MB SSD installed in the MacBook Pro. He did the install and the transfer in a day, and it all worked great. C&C has been great, and I recommend all local people there if they have any computer issues! read more

Its clear to see why Calvin rates 5-stars from virtually every one of his customers. He is brilliant at what he does and his prices are very reasonable. My 3-year old Dell laptop froze last Friday and after a day and a half of struggling to get it running again, I bit the bullet and went to Calvin just before he closed on Saturday. I explained that my laptop is my business computer and I hadn't backed it up in about a month (I know, I have to be better about that), so I was worried about losing important data. I told him I had run the Dell diagnostics program and it indicated that there were no problems. Calvin told me he'd put a rush on my computer and would do his best to have it ready on Monday. Not only was my computer ready by 3 PM on Monday (and fully operational), but Calvin charged me only $65! I'll never take my computer to anyone else but Calvin from here on out. read more

I took my tower here because I couldn't figure out which part fried, and that's all I wanted to know, but these guys couldn't even tell me. After leaving it here for two weeks, all they could tell me was that I need to install my OS, and that would cost $85. I took it to San Carlos Computers and the guy found out by the process of elimination that my video card fried. That's all I needed to know, but I couldn't find out on my own because I don't have such spare parts. They're nice guys and all, but that's just terrible. If you're wondering why C&C has only awesome reviews, it's because if you write a bad one, they look up your case and call you within two hours to apologize, offer you a refund, and ask what they can do to make you happy. The only downside to this is that you feel like a passive aggressive jerk for whining about them on the internet instead of just telling them you were unhappy in the first place. =) So no, I wasn't really happy with the service I received. But nobody's perfect, and the fact that they went out of their way to make it up to me is pretty darn cool. Calvin seemed genuinely sorry that I wasn't happy with the service. I found out about Calvin and C&C Computer repair from computer repair consultant who only does large commercial jobs nowadays with clients like Oracle etc.. I called about 2 months ago first time on behalf of my then girlfriend (I'm single now ladies..LOL) and her Mac. I had called the Mac guys in Palo Alto and they were quoting like $350 if it was repair and the guy wasn't even that nice on phone. Then I called Calvin, his phone demeanor was so genuinely friendly and professional. I took it too him same day, I told him the faster the btter cause my then girlfriend was working on her Masters degree thesis paper due next week. My PC starrted acting funny for about a week, not shutting down properly and then a force shut down and restart would bring up "resuming windows" instead of a full reboot. I put up with it and then one day it booted up with "No Operating System Found." I did tons of Google searches, tried a number of fixes and even went with an online answer service - all to no avail. I had resigned that I had lost all my videos, which I discovered weren't being backed up by Carbonite. As a last ditch effort, I brought my computer into C&C. After a couple of days, they had figured out it was a bad power supply. They replaced it and then verified everything was working. And not only did they fix it in short order, the cost was very reasonable. I'm completely satisfied with the work they did. read more
