I have been needing to post this review for more than a month, but haven't had the time. Their service is unbelievably exceptional. The people are extremely nice, patient, understanding and they obviously know how to make customers happy. I let a friend borrow my laptop while I used the desktop at work. She ended up being the victim of drive-by malaware and unfortunately, I didn't have much time to work on it, so I brought the laptop here. I also brought an external hard drive so they could move all the files onto it. They were able to move the files. The only issue was having to reinstall the OS and drivers. I came in on Saturday and really needed the laptop, but they weren't able to reinstall the OS on Friday. They were busy. Since I have a background in IT, I stayed there and reinstalled the OS, drivers, software, files, etc myself. So, I was sitting back there with the owner doing my thing while he was fixing other computers. I witnessed how he conducts business with his customers and really need to compliment him. His service, personality and way he communicated with his customers was exceptional. My God, he was even extremely nice and patient with a sales guy that was tying up his time trying to sell him a glass cleaner product. Fortunately, I was able to get the sales guy to leave. I could see the owner was too nice to ask him to leave. The phone was ringing, he had a deadline to finish another customer's computer, and he was the only one working that day. I figured the sales guy didn't know I was actually a customer. He ended up billing me $180, but I paid him extra for all the time they spent on it and for allowing me to sit there and do the rest. read more

Needed a heating problem with my laptop's graphic card fixed and went there based on other yelp reviews. Got there, told them about the problem, they understood completely and fixed it in less than 3 hours at about 20% of the price that Dell would have charged me. I am a commercial photographer. After returning home from three separate client sessions i found that my desktop Dell would not power up. After reading reviews on Yelp I decided to take my PC into C&C, a local shop. I arrived at 10:00 AM and at 11:00 AM they called to let me know the power supply on my PC had failed. He stated that he could have it fixed in 30 minutes and the charge would be 80.00 plus tax. At 11:30 AM he promptly contacted me to notify me that the unit was ready to pick up. When I arrived he asked if I would like the box my new power supply came in along with the cables, Velcro ties, etc. Courteous and old world service seldom seen in any industry let alone PC repair. HIGHLY recommended. I will utilize this service whenever the need arises and recommend them to friends. read more

About 2 weeks ago, I had an external HD failure with over 25,000 photographs, and had been a little laissez-faire about backing up (last full backup was last July 2018), and I have done a lot of work since then. They don't get any better than this. My old XP had a cursor problem as well as a few viruses and a bad memory (sort of like me). With a little added memory, a new cursor, and shucked of the trojan horses, it's humming along now almost like new. I've never had to take my hard drive in for repair before and am SO happy I can salvage another year or two out of this one. Like others, I had problems with them not starting the work when they said they would. I had a laptop fail and brought it to them. I told them immediately that it was out of warranty, and that I was coming to them because I couldn't wait for a licensed repair. I asking them to fix it as soon as possible. They said they would order the part and start work immediately. They said it would take about a week. After a week had passed, they called me to say "yes, it's broken, do you want us to start fixing it?" Annoyed, I said "yes" and they said it would take another week or so. After that week had passed, and they didn't make the promised calls, I called and they told me they hadn't done anything because they were trying to see if it was under warranty so they could send it out. At this point I had to go out and buy another computer because it had been so long, so I decided to let them continue fixing it. It ended up taking well over a month. I did eventually get it back in working order, but I was also distressed by the amount of disorganization I saw. I got back a different power cable than the one I came in with, and there seemed to be parts from different laptops strewn across the work area. (This wasn't really a big deal to me, but it did leave me wondering what else might have gotten mixed up.) During this process, I also came by to try to buy an item from their shelves. I called first to make sure that they would have it, but was told when I arrived (less than a half hour thereafter) that they couldn't sell it to me because they didn't know how much to charge for it and there was no way to find out except I could come back when the owner was there. They could not, however, tell me his schedule. Needless to say, I went somewhere else. I do think they are technically competent, and the prices are reasonable. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this shop unless you have no concerns about how long your repairs might take. Were they to ask for my business advice, I would advise that they hire a consultant to help them overhaul their business processes, possibly by using CRM software or hiring someone part time to make sure all promises are kept and that all work is done in an orderly way and as promised. They're not bad people: they're just a bit disorganized. read more

I had been babying my computer along for some months and was about to buy a new one....but with Christmas looming and no time and shopping to do I decided to give Calvin at C & C a try. Unfortunately, the problem was in the mother board and the replacing power jack did not help. But, Calvin did not charge me for the 2nd visit. I will preface this saying I don't think it is entirely fair for me to review this place as I did not end up using them so this review does not reflect the quality of their work. I had been away and not used my laptop for six months. Upon returning I realized a large amount of photos were missing and couldn't find them anywhere, they seemed to have just disappeared from what I could tell about 6-8 months ago. Based on the reviews I emailed this company. On their website it says they will get back to you in 1 business day. I ended up sending them 2 emails over a week and never heard back (it is now almost three weeks from when I sent the emails and never heard back). I had emailed because I felt it would be easier to explain over email and I could be sure I included all details about the computer, the situation and what I had done to look for them (that the folders weren't hidden, files weren't in the trash or had been moved to another folder). So I called the company and explained the situation. The gentleman that answered had me go through the steps to make sure the folders weren't hidden. Then when he heard the folders weren't hidden he told me there was nothing they could do and that was the end of the call and nothing more was said. It would have been nice if he had provided an explanation as to why they could not do more or just to have a bit more to say than that such as due to the length of time they have been lost or we don't perform that type of service. Also during and after my explanation the gentleman on the phone did not ask me any types of questions in regards to my problem to try and get more information. After this I did contact two other companies. Both initially said that it was very unlikely that anything could be recovered but that if i wanted to try they could run some recovery software. I did take it to another place and they were actually able to recover the photos. My problem has nothing to do with them not being able to perform the service but more in the customer service I received while trying to find this out. read more

This is one of a dying breed of small neighborhood computer repair shops run by a friendly guy named Calvin. I was in there yesterday to get some help with a computer I'm building. In about half an hour he figured out a problem that would have taken me hours. And I'm the guy my friends ask for help. After talking to him for a while I'm convinced he knows his stuff. Look out Calvin - I now have somewhere to send those friends. And his prices - I don't know how he stays in business. His prices are very fair and twice he suggested cheaper ways to do things and *discouraged* me from buying a part from him. The one downside is C & C is small and doesn't have the selection of the big stores. However they make up for that with great prices and a level of service you don't see too often anymore. Unlike most of those big stores Calvin actually knows what he's talking about. And he'll order anything he doesn't have in stock. read more

Calvin at C&C has been great, both times I've taken computers to him. He knows his stuff, and seems genuinely focused on getting you the most bang for your buck. The first time I went in was about a year ago, when I brought in my 2008 MacBook. I wanted to remove the optical drive and install an SSD in its place. Having never really dove deep into the innards of a computer (with the exception of upgrading RAM), Calvin was very helpful in giving me the proper instructions to get this bad boy installed. I then proceeded to do the install on my own and when I came across some problems, I brought my MacBook in and yet again, Calvin was awesome. He gave me a private consultation and explained to me the proper way to do it. With his help, I got my computer up and running and have had no problems since. As hard as I pushed, Calvin refused to charge me a penny for his help. After this great initial experience, I referred him to my boss at the time, who wanted a similar upgrade on his MacBook Pro. He wanted to increase his internal storage, and also possibly add in an SSD. Yet again, Calvin was as helpful as could be. He outlined all of our options, and eventually decided to go with a 2TB HD and a 512MB SSD installed in the MacBook Pro. He did the install and the transfer in a day, and it all worked great. C&C has been great, and I recommend all local people there if they have any computer issues! read more

Its clear to see why Calvin rates 5-stars from virtually every one of his customers. He is brilliant at what he does and his prices are very reasonable. My 3-year old Dell laptop froze last Friday and after a day and a half of struggling to get it running again, I bit the bullet and went to Calvin just before he closed on Saturday. I explained that my laptop is my business computer and I hadn't backed it up in about a month (I know, I have to be better about that), so I was worried about losing important data. I told him I had run the Dell diagnostics program and it indicated that there were no problems. Calvin told me he'd put a rush on my computer and would do his best to have it ready on Monday. Not only was my computer ready by 3 PM on Monday (and fully operational), but Calvin charged me only $65! I'll never take my computer to anyone else but Calvin from here on out. read more

I took my tower here because I couldn't figure out which part fried, and that's all I wanted to know, but these guys couldn't even tell me. After leaving it here for two weeks, all they could tell me was that I need to install my OS, and that would cost $85. I took it to San Carlos Computers and the guy found out by the process of elimination that my video card fried. That's all I needed to know, but I couldn't find out on my own because I don't have such spare parts. They're nice guys and all, but that's just terrible. If you're wondering why C&C has only awesome reviews, it's because if you write a bad one, they look up your case and call you within two hours to apologize, offer you a refund, and ask what they can do to make you happy. The only downside to this is that you feel like a passive aggressive jerk for whining about them on the internet instead of just telling them you were unhappy in the first place. =) So no, I wasn't really happy with the service I received. But nobody's perfect, and the fact that they went out of their way to make it up to me is pretty darn cool. Calvin seemed genuinely sorry that I wasn't happy with the service. I found out about Calvin and C&C Computer repair from computer repair consultant who only does large commercial jobs nowadays with clients like Oracle etc.. I called about 2 months ago first time on behalf of my then girlfriend (I'm single now ladies..LOL) and her Mac. I had called the Mac guys in Palo Alto and they were quoting like $350 if it was repair and the guy wasn't even that nice on phone. Then I called Calvin, his phone demeanor was so genuinely friendly and professional. I took it too him same day, I told him the faster the btter cause my then girlfriend was working on her Masters degree thesis paper due next week. My hard drive recently crashed on my Dell laptop, taking with it many documents that I had never backed up, including all digital pictures of my kids. My PC starrted acting funny for about a week, not shutting down properly and then a force shut down and restart would bring up "resuming windows" instead of a full reboot. I put up with it and then one day it booted up with "No Operating System Found." I did tons of Google searches, tried a number of fixes and even went with an online answer service - all to no avail. I had resigned that I had lost all my videos, which I discovered weren't being backed up by Carbonite. As a last ditch effort, I brought my computer into C&C. After a couple of days, they had figured out it was a bad power supply. They replaced it and then verified everything was working.
