Mike called me less than 10 minutes later and said he was 1 minute away! That was fast! Mike was totally professional. Clean. Caring. Put the car exactly where I wanted. Would never recommend. Police had my car towed here and in 4 days the car wracked up +$500. Accident happened over the weekend so no one from insurance was open and I had to wait this long. When I paid and they brought her out she needed a flatbed but they were dragging her causing more damage to the back end. The bumper was still attached but no longer. Carl was the smart guy who did this. When I told him he was scraping the ground he said he wasnt and I asked him how could he not hear the scrapping metal? I could hear it from inside my car. He proceeded to drop the car, call me an idiot, then disappeared. Went to the office to complain and Tiffany made it clear she agreed with him. Amazingly poor service from just dropping 1/2 a grand. Owner came out, blamed it on the original accident and wouldn't do shit or even acknowledge his employees treating a customer and their stuff this way. Avoid at all costs. Their lucrative police contracts mean they get plenty of work and don't care about your stuff at all. read more

My fiancés car broke down 1/2 of a mile from our home. We called Byers and left his car at the gas station where it sat for 4 hours prior to being towed, luckily we weren't sitting there waiting and we know the gas station owner personally. Byers charged us $85 for the hook up (fair in comparison to my knowledge of tow rates) and were told it would be $1 per mile after that. Our receipt reflects $6 mileage charge, 6 miles for a 1/2 of a mile tow?? When we called, the receptionist stated our receipt was incorrect and we were charged for "2 miles" the question remains why we were charged for two miles? The icing on the cake, upon arriving home, the tow driver completely missed our driveway. It is small, I will give him that, but our vehicle was parked halfway between our drive way and our home, we had to actually push the car to our driveway. After which, revealed the damage to our lawn (photos attached). Overall, not a pleasant experience and wouldn't recommend them to service anyone, especially during an already stressful time of a break-down or car accident. read more

The most unprofessional towing company I have ever dealt with. My car was towed by this company because it was stuck during the snow storm. From the moment I got there I was treated like absolute garbage. The ladies that work behind the counter are the most disrespectful and disgusting humans I have ever met in my life. I provided them with my keys to be able to get my registration out of the car, after getting my registration they refused to give me back my keys that were In my procession to begin with. After the older lady handed them back to me finally after realizing she is not able to just steal my keys from me, she called me a jerk and other foul names. Not sure why this old lady still works there and hasn't retired yet, but she does not belong in anybody's business interacting with customers. I came back after a couple hours with my ID to get the vehicle out, the older lady was gone but she was most definitely replaced with another lady that thinks she is entitled to speak to anybody however she wants. As I walked in there with my brother, I was letting him know how rude the lady here was to me earlier. As soon as I walked in, the lady now behind the counter started to question my brother and I what we were talking about. Which is none of her business to begin with. We let her know that we weren't talking about her since I never had a conversation with her to begin with. She was offended and started having an attitude and throwing my ID and debit card back to me instead of handing it to me. After finally walking out of the office and not stepping down to their low IQ level and unprofessionalism, I was told " hope to never see you back here again " I was shocked and turned around and asked why she would say that when they are the ones being rude and calling me names while I have stayed nice and professional towards them. She had no response, so I walked out. after walking to my car, I knew there had to be icing on the cake and sure enough my entire front grill was ripped off and damaged. I walked back in to the office and asked them who I can report damages to and I was not being acknowledged even though there were at least 6 employees standing there. After asking the question for a 2nd time, I was finally handed a business card and told to leave the office. I was charged a total of $255 for a car that was towed 1 mile away and picked up not even an hour later. I would not recommend this towing company to my worst enemy. Yesterday May 25th I was driving on Dixie Highway while it was raining, and was being tailgated but one of Byers trucks. I flashed him my tail lights to inform him that he was following too close; The driver proceeded to try to whip around me almost hitting the back end of my car. When he realized there was no room to pass me, he threw me a couple of middle fingers, then whipped back behind me almost hitting the back end of my car a second time. A little farther down the road he cut me off just barely missing hitting the front end of my car. I drove to Byers location off E Holly Rd in the hopes of informing their dispatch of the reckless driving of their employee. The dispatch man just shrugged me off, giving me "I'll let someone know" line. Then the driver that was involved in the incident walked in screaming slurs at me and proceeded to make threats. A second driver came to diffuse the situation and I was told to leave or police would be called. When I called the main office they knew exactly which driver I was referring to. I requested a call from the supervisor to discuss the incident, but I was never contacted. The situation was not only unprofessional, but it was unsafe. If you're ever in a tow situation I would avoid Byers; they clearly aren't vetting their employees well read more

Had a simple tow that I needed done. I have the AAA Gold plan. I was just north of DTE energy theater. Trying to help one of my stepdaughters out. AAA made the call to Byers towing. It was around 6:13 PM. They were supposed to be there by 7:13 PM. Got a text message saying they were pushing the time up to 8:13 PM. Another text message, 9:23 PM. A no-show. After multiple calls with AAA and AAA supervisors, Byers towing finally showed up after four hours. Keep in mind, there is no snow, no storm, the skies were blue, no traffic, no concert, it was not a holiday weekend, no nothing. Along with all the no's, there is no apology, no sympathy, no excuses, no nothing. Finally when the driver did show up, no hello, no nothing. he was slamming chains around, banging on the truck bed and, very angry presence about him. If I wasn't so tired and irritated, I would have went with a different tow company. Byer towing put me in a bad situation. Completely unprofessional. Only thing that would change this review is if I get a call from the owner personally! So please feel free to reach out. Last night was completely unacceptable in every way possible. Yelp wouldn't let me post the video so screenshotted it. My car is in perfect condition, and never had a single problem with it... ever. Gets towed, dinged up, and now my battery is FRIED. Absolutely excellent experience with Byers. I just needed a tow from my apartment to the nearby Belle Tire, so I called in a roadside assistance request through my insurance company. 3 hours later and I am still waiting. So I ended up calling Byers based on the good reviews. Within an hour, I had my Jeep towed and I was back home. Just amazing service, from the lady who took my request to Phil who towed my Jeep and gave me a lift back home. I cannot say enough about how great Phil was. He arrived earlier than expected, told me to relax in his truck to get out of the cold and he would take care of getting my Jeep on the truck. Then he had my Jeep off the truck and in a spot at Belle Tire in the short time it took me to fill out the overnight drop box form. Really appreciated his efficiency, his friendliness, the pride he took in his job and being kind enough to give me a lift home. Thank you again for excellent service. They are extremely difficult with customers. Vehicle of mine was in an accident and the police took it up on himself to have the vehicle towed to their tow yard. They have a contract with the police to have your vehicle towed to their yard apparently. Mind you the vehicle was not stolen, or any illegal things going on. I had AAA but apparently the police are not waiting for my tow truck guy to get there. They charged me $425 for it to sit there for less than 8 hours. They move super slow when it comes to getting your vehicle out after paying the fees and are not helpful when you are trying to figure out what the next steps are. They are definitely in it for your money and will take you for as much as possible. They want you to use their salvage people and if you choose to use someone else, they make it difficult to conduct the business on their property. Unfortunately, it was a total loss, and I was only able to recover $25 from the entire ordeal. I hope all involved will struggle as much as they have put me through that's all I have to say about that. read more

Needed a tow when my sons pickup broke down. Called Byers in Rochester knowing that they were the closest to my location. Dispatcher was very pleasant and friendly, she said they would be to me in a half an hour. Only waited 25 minutes and Ryan was at my location ready to help. Ryan was friendly and personable and did a great job loading the vehicle taking care not to damage it. When we got back to my house he was able to drop the vehicle exactly where I asked him to without causing any damage to my yard or concrete. Price was very reasonable. Will definitely call Byers if I need a tow in the future. Kudos to Ryan! Keep up the great work! read more

I used AAA for tire change. Beyers man came to my home and told me he couldn't change my tire. I told him everything he needed was there and that's what he was sent for. He ransacked my truck and called me names and threatened to hit me. Then noticed my handicap plate (I have MS) and made fun of my handicap on his way out. Called Tiffany at Clarkston office to complain. She was just as nasty and terrible as he was. Never again!! read more

I recently went to Byers and it was absolutely terrible. At first they wouldn't allow me to take pictures of my own vehicle & I wasn't allowed to take any of my property out of my vehicle. I had to get in a debate just to have my rights to the vehicle. The workers were extremely rude to me & I was respectful throughout the whole time. They charged me $450 plus for a tow. Crazy people. I was in accident with broken knee, went to see my SUV. Temperature was low with wind chill of 20 C. The receptionist lady was crazy and rude. Behaved like a bully. She told me that she needs to verify the ID, I went to the SUV, was taking my ID and belongings. She came out lecturing that she needs to verify the ID and I said ok, we can do it. I had the driver license and registration but she forced me to put everything in the car and come inside the office to verify the ID. I asked to do it right away as by the SUV as I was in pain and wind chill of 20 degrees. I was forced to go back (drive back) to the office and verify the ID and then go back again to the SUV. She could have verified when I had my Driver license and registration by the side of the SUV. What's customer service- to serve a client and not to control a client. Customer is the reason that a company gets the business. The only reason a business exists is to serve a client. The way this company behaved, it was not professional, bully, and stupid. They showed no empathy that a client is hopping on a crutch with painful knee. Why could have verified the ID by the SUV when I was showing her. Company policies- policies should be how to serve the clients the right and not to control them. Why businesses are forgetting the values of smile, Service, words like please and thank you? Orientation- proper training should be done to employees how to be empathetic and helpful. Companies who don't change with time simply vanish. Be the new General Motors and not the old one which was not professional and arrogant. I called and the women I spoke with was nice and helpful. I asked how much it would be to pull my truck out of the ditch and tow it three miles down the road. I had people that could have helped me but thought this would be easier. The lady quoted me $100 and even put me on hold before she told me so she could check the miles to the address I gave her. I told her that price was ok. After towing it I get a call the it is now $177. Total bullcrap. Way to not get repeat business from me. I could have been a return customer. read more

Required services 2 nights ago as my car went swimming in front of their business on South Street. Team was courteous and helped as my pre-schooler and I were sitting in the middle of a small river on the road. I must say that it is hilarious that the street floods in front of their business. Anyways, they used the wrecker to pick my car up and back it into their lot. They promptly delivered my car to the dealership today and settled all payments with the dealership. I have no complaints and found the office/dispatch workers to be very sweet and helpful. The drivers were nice despite being very busy. Towing service was punctual and no complaints there, however I really take issue with their storage billing. I had to get my car towed to their lot at 8pm after hitting a deer because I couldn't leave it on the road and I couldnt tow it to my house. I came the very NEXT day at 8 am to pick it up and they charged me for TWO days of storage even though I had only kept it there for 12 hours! I asked the lady why and she told me it was because they were different calendar days!!! How does this even remotely make sense? 2 days is equal to 48 hours...end of story. read more

My son was in an accident. They towed my car without consent to their yard. Worried about my child health and what the hospital had to say, I didn't contact them for a few days. No mention of storage fee or anything. I have never used a tow service for ANYTHING!!!!! Then I go there and they say it's totaled. I said ok, what do I need to do! The rude old lady said sign this and clean it out!!! Ok, that's what I did..... Enough interaction with her to get more info as I had to go back in to barrow a screwdriver to take the license plate off. Then back in to return it..... Each time, very rude lady at the desk. I told her several times, please tell me everything I need to do as I've never handled anything like this by myself. More than a month and a half later......I get a bill for over $1000 !!!!!! What? I call, nice guy talked to me and I went down there to discuss. Now old lady back and different guy and he says, of course your charged for every day it's here. Now and only now I'm told that I have to arrange a scrap yard...... Which they won't release to until I pay this attrocios bill....... But, will continue to charge me DAILY! I went to the police and they can't do anything although, they verbalized apologies and also stated the whole situation sounds wrong! Last step, I go back and get him to release the car to the scrap yard too ensure my charges stop racking up...... He finally agreed if I sign the money the scrap yard pays to Byers! So, again I think our dealings are over and haven't heard from them since. Over a year later, I get a large bill from a collection agency, Ok! I'm far from stupid! I'm a 50 year old nurse! Sorry, I don't know the towing business or how everything works! At no point was I told or given prices, steps to take, who to call!!!! What a scam!!!! I suppose they need to be good at something! So unbelievable disappointed by the business practices of this company. You towed my car under pretty predatory circumstances. I get that you don't concern yourself with the business practices of those with whom you align yourself but perhaps you might want to look at that. My major beef is that I asked specifically what it would cost to get my car back from them and they told me a very clear price. I arrived at their yard and they tacked on an additional charge. When I attempted to discuss this with the attendant I was met with rudeness, disrespect, and an attitude of pompous entitlement that made a bitter circumstance that much more disgusting. We called AAA for a flat on our RV and AAA called them. The guy came out and said AAA didn't cover the RV and he said, "I can fix it for $60 CASH, you have CASH?" We explained we don't carry cash- only Debit/Credit. He looked extremely annoyed and walked off. Looked at the RV and said I probably can't fix it anyway. He didn't even try. We got another company to come out just as MDOT stopped for us. We told them what happened. MDOT knew exactly who we were talking about and said they have heard similar stories from others. They came and towed the vehicle for .3 miles and charged $145.00. To me that is outrageous.
