It was my first time getting my hair colored and cut by Tommy. I've never had my hair colored before and I was very nervous at first. In the last few years, when I let my hair grow long, I always want to get my hair colored, however, I always get scared and end up cutting this. This year - in 2022 - I said let's do it! I contacted Tommy the morning of my appointment to see if he could fit me in. I told him I'd like a haircut and possible highlights or balayage. He was so courteous and sweet to fit me in at his last appointment spot at 6 pm. I left from work and was going to be a little late so I called Tommy and told him I'd be 15 minutes late. He just said "It's fine! No rush!" He gave me directions to park in the back and that his salon is located inside the Colonade in Pasadena. Since I arrived at night, parking was free! This was super helpful of Tommy to give me directions or else I would have gotten lost! When he started on my hair consultation, I showed him inspiration pictures and we talked about color options. He is VERY knowledgeable on his coloring and hair cutting styles. I could tell right away he was great! We decided on a balayage for coloring and a light brown on my dark brown hair. He was wonderful to take before and after pictures for me. He even shared it with me so I could show my friends! The whole hair coloring, haircut, blow-drying, and styling took about 4 hours. 4 hours just flew by because Tommy is so funny and light-hearted. I could talk to him for hours! It is wonderful to have a hairstylist that you can talk and share memories. He is so funny and sweet! After Tommy performed his magic on my hair, I was astonished by the results. I couldn't believe my results! He even recommended me a new shampoo I should use and we scheduled our future follow-up appointment. Just wow! Tommy is my go-to hairstylist now and he should be yours too! I wish I could give him 10 out of 5 stars. I'm so lucky to have found Tommy! I highly recommend him! Tommy has cut and styled my hair at least 3-4 times now, and every time I've gone to him, I have always left completely happy and in love with my hair. Tommy is great at his job: he always asks what I want done (I usually bring in pictures) and he lets me know whether or not the look is achievable or if it will need modifications -- that level of honesty is SO appreciated because I sometimes think something will look good but I forget to consider my face shape and/or how much maintenance will go into the look on a daily basis. He also has so much fun cutting and styling hair that it hypes me up, but what I love best about Tommy is that he is genuinely kind, easy-going, and fun to talk to. I've been going to Tommy for a couple of years now, and I just love him! No matter what kind of a cut I ask for, he just gets it right. ‍ Most of the time, I have a very rough idea of what I want. It's been about a month since my most recent (and last) visit. Unfortunately my last cut was awful. I paid and left immediately because I was so shocked by how short it was. I talked with Tommy about cutting an inch off and it coming below my chin. It does not come to my chin even when wet, and at least 3 inches came off. My hair was relatively short and is healthy, so there was no reason to cut off more. When he was cutting my hair, I heard him clearly say an expletive early on in the cut. I think he must have made a mistake and had to cut extra hair off to even it out. He denies saying anything of the sort but I know what I heard. It's been several weeks now and my hair is still much shorter than what I wanted. He admitted that my hair came out shorter than we had discussed and blamed it on the fact that my hair is wavy, which seems unprofessional. The only solution he offered when I texted him about how unhappy I was with the haircut was to come back when it had grown out for another trim. I do not trust him to do my hair anymore and will not be back. read more

Let me start by saying that I have never left a bad review because I always try to understand the situation but this time I just have to. Two weeks has passed since I visited Tommy L and I have been thinking if I should write this...but another day looking in a mirror and seeing my hair with the tears in my eyes has brought me here. I went to his salon because I wanted to find someone closer to where I live, I have a very good stylist but she works far away. I also have kind of difficult hair, a lot of different shades, leftovers from previous dyes. I'm not very picky, I don't need my hair to be perfect. I just want to look decent. I wanted to add just some partial highlights to the front to brighten my hair especialy around my face. I asked for blond highlights to frame my face specifically. But he decided to do a 'color fix balayage' or something. So I agreed because I trusted him, he explained everything very well. When he finished I was in extreme shock. Internally on a verge of crying. He must have notice that because he gave me a discount saying that he gives it to me because ' I'll be back to finish the process'. i was very unhappy and shocked and he kept on saying that the colors blended beautifully - basicly gashliting my sadness and denying the fact that he messed up. He left the top of my head and framing parts brassy yellow. And I specifically asked for bright front parts...This part was my natural hair. Which should be the easiest to bleach and get pretty blonde because I already had that pretty blonde on my natural hair before (after a week I went to my hair stylist and she fixed it as much as she could. She was shocked with my hair as well). When I got home I noticed that it's even more messed up. The 'beautifully blended parts' where blotchy and uneven. I was so mad and truly just sad. So so sad. Especially because he kept on saying that it's ok and that he's going to finish it next time in a couple if months. And what about the time in between that I have to wear this messed up hair disaster? I was so shocked that I even left a tip. Now, I have to grow out my hair again. i'm leaving this review because if I'd see this before I would've never gone there. So maybe it'll help someone. read more
